• How to share files and folders on a forum so that anyone can download without having an Ubuntu One account?

  I just began to discover Ubuntu One. I upload a video on my account, and put it in a folder. I would like to know whether it is possible to share this folder or this file simply by giving the url in forum (in a message), so that anyone can download the file, with no need to have an Ubuntu One account. (a bit like PhotoBucket, where you can share pictures and videos and folders to people with ou without PhotoBucket, and anyone can download them) Thank you in advance for your answers.

• suggestions for migrating a windows 7 install to a new 4K sector disk

  Hi, I'm looking to upgrade the disk on a windows 7 box to a new larger drive. In the past for such migrations I'd just hook both drives up and use a linux boot disk and use dd to copy from one disk to the next... boot up the new drive & expand the partition. The drive I just purchased however is a western digital using 4k sectors... not sure if there'd be any complications using my old method moving from a 512b sector drive. Current plan is to try the migration by doing a win7 system image backup to an external drive... then restore the image to the new drive via system restore boot disk. Any suggestions or recommendations on how to best complete this migration would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

• Reinstalling a fresh Windows 8 on my new laptop

  OK I have a new Dell (Inspiron 15R 5520) laptop that came with Windows 8 pre-installed. I'm really not a fan of pre-installed Windows since they are bundled with tons of softwares I don't want and settings I don't like. I would like to reinstall it myself with a fresh installation. I have bought Windows 8 Pro OEM already for my desktop computer and it came with the usual OEM sticker with the Windows serial on it. Now my new laptop only have a Windows 8 logo sticker on it with no serial on it. After some research it seems it's normal. Now, can I format my laptop and install Windows 8 (not pro) from my Windows 8 Pro OEM DVD? I ask because when I installed Windows 8 Pro it asked for the serial (which was found on the sticker). I'm wondering if the same DVD will detect the serial on the BIOS of my new laptop or I need a special Dell DVD for that?

• Mozilla Thunderbird new emails indication colour

  I've recently upgraded Mozilla Thunderbird to v3 on Winodws XP. In v2 I think when new (Pop 3) emails were downloaded, there were a little star icon next to my local folders where it's filtered to as to indicate new emails. In v3, it seems they've changed it to use different colour to highlight the folder instead. Whereas folders with existing unread emails are highlighted in bold black, folders with new unread emails are highlighted in this light grey greenish colour that's really hard to see. Can anyone please tell me how to modify the colour? I'm guessing it's either some lines in a userChrome.css file, or modifying a field in the config editor. Thanks. :)

• Using old RAID configured disk after new disk has been used in the controller

  I have Dell Poweredge T100 server with Dell SAS 6 and two hard disk on RAID 1. Last week the server died including one RAID 1 hard disk. We sent the server for repair and the problem with PSU was fixed. But the repair guys also checked the RAID controller by configuring new RAID with their test hard disk. Now if I install one working RAID 1 disk and one new disk, will the RAID controller let me continue my old RAID 1 and resync the new disk and continue? What I fear is the RAID controller will want the test hard from repair guys. Thus I have to re configure RAID 1 forcing me to wipe the working disc. If so, I've to backup the working disc, reconfigure RAID 1 and reinstall? Or is there better way? Note: I'm using DELL SAS confiugratio utility to manage RAID. (Press CTRL+C after BIOS)

  Hey SuperUsers, is it possible to make some sort of change or add a plugin that allows me to make every 'external' link open in a new window? Just an example: if my blog was called http//timmy.com/ and I wanted to link to http//tom.com/, it would open a new window instead of the same window, but I wanted to link from http//timmy.com/ to http//timmy.com/somewhere/ in the same window. So I want all external link from my website to another in a new window/tab, but I want every internal link, from my website to somewhere else on my website, to be in the same window/tab. Is this possible?

I'm using TweetStats.com to gather statistics at the moment, but the follower stats functionality isn't granular enough to determine the precise number of followers.   I have a VHD in Azure storage. That VHD is configured as an OS disk through a command like the following: Add-AzureDisk -DiskName $newCode -MediaLocation "http://$script:accountName.blob.core.windows.net/$newCode/$sourceVhdName.vhd" ` -Label $newCode -OS "Windows" I would like to create a new VM pointing at that disk. From what I can tell if I was doing this with an image I would do something like: New-AzureVMConfig -Name $newCode -InstanceSize $instanceSize ` -MediaLocation "http://$script:accountName.blob.core.windows.net/$newCode/$sourceVhdName.vhd" -ImageName $newCode ` | Add-AzureProvisioningConfig -Windows -Password $adminPassword ` | New-AzureVM -ServiceName $newCode However this is wrong for me because I don't have an image - I have a configured VHD that is not sysprepped and can't be. How can I create the VM in PowerShell to point at the existing disk like I can through the portal?

• Sometimes tabs in notepad++ won't make a new window when dragged out

  Long-time Linux user on a Windows 7 machine, using Notepad++ to edit multiple text files. Sometimes I can drag a tab out of the notepad++ window onto the desktop to get a new notepad++ window. This is a very nice feature. But sometimes when I try to drag a tab out, nothing happens. I don't see what is different about these tabs or the files they contain. It is repeatable; the same tab still won't make a new window. I'm not familiar enough with Windows and its strange ways to begin to guess what is going on, unless it's a bug. How can I make all tabs draggable-to-new-windowable, no exceptions?

  Scenario: Old hdd is a Seagate 320gb SATA drive New hdd is a WD 320gb SATA drive Created an exact clone and replaced old hdd with new hdd. Boot up with new hdd, it gets into Windows 2003 server environment but things look weird. Lots of system event failures in the event viewer log. System is barely unusable, critical services are all down. Boot up with old hdd, everything is fine. QUESTION: Is it possible to do a simple clone of a Windows 2003 server system? All I'm changing is the hard drive, everything else stays the same (old CPU/old mobo/etc..)

• How to fix windows new line character on sftp synchronization in eclipse (pdt)

  Hello, I have a problem with windows new line characters being introduced into text files on eclipse sftp synchronization (via jcraft's sftp plugin). I've set "New text file line delimiter" to Unix and have even sanitized the file with "fromdos" but every time i upload using the sftp plugin, windows new line characters can be seen in the remote file as "^M" characters (when viewed in vi). A point to note is that if i upload using an external sftp client, it's all fine. Eclipse Version: PDT (Helios) SFTP: jcraft sftp plugin Local Environment: Ubuntu 10.04 Remote Environments: FreeBSD 6.4, Debian 4.0 What am i missing? • How to print new line character with echo?

  I dump a string with hexdump like this 2031 3334 2e30 0a32 2032 3331 302e 000a. It is clear that 0x0a is new line character, however, when I try to echo this string out, I always got 1 430.2 2 13.0 -- the new line is replaced with a space, even I use the -e flag. What may be the problem? Does the tailing \0 ruin the output? Is there any alternatives to print 0x0a a new line? Thanks and Best regards.

• Micrsoft fax server not seeing new modem

  I recently added a new modem (a plain ol consumer grade one) to a fax server thats been up and running for years running on Microsoft Server 2003 fax services. The server currently has two modems, the new one is identical to one of the existing. After installing the new modem it showed up in the Fax Server Manager as a device but was not doing outbound faxes. (The server by default does not handle incoming.) So after a reboot the server no loger sees the modem in the Fax Server Manager but is listed as a device in device manager. I've attempted to restart just the fax service and even the whole box again but to no avail. Any one have any ideas on this one? Or any one with good links to resources for the fax service?

I'm trying to learn .htaccess rules, but finding the tutorials online to be kinda vague. I'd really like a simple explanation on the .htaccess rules. • Duplicating keepass files instead of creating a new file

  I'm currently using KeePass 2 and syncing them via dropbox. I have a few KeePass files (one for websites, one to store software licenses, etc...) Every time I need a new KeePass file, I just create a copy of the kbdx file, open it, remove all existing entries, change the key transformation rounds to another pseudo-random value. I do not change the master password. I want to know if this was unsafe practice, or was a security risk, compared to just creating a new KeePass file via the "File-New" menu. The reason I don't use the menu: i'm lazy enough to not want to reconfigure "database settings" every time.

  I am not even going to pretend to fully understand how htaccess rewrite conidtions work. Ive been working on this for a while searching and searching. I have an old wordpress site www.old-site.com and a new site www.site.com wordpress uses query strings page_id=# to redirect to pages on the old site page_id=2 went to a specific page but on the new site it goes the the home page i need old-site/?page_id=2 to go to site.com/our-company here is what i am trying RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www.)?old-site.com$ [NC] RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^page_id=2$ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.site.com/our-company/ [R=301,L] if i take out the rewrite conditio for query string it redirects all traffic from old-site.com to the our company page on the new site. where am i going wrong? i have about 15 redirects i need to do this way. thanks in advance

  It seems like an obvious question, but I’m having a difficult time finding out if Windows 8, with all its changes, will require new, specialized drivers. I see that a lot of manufacturers have started releasing Windows 8-specific drivers for their hardware, but what about those that are not, will Windows XP or 7 drivers work or have they changed the driver/system/security architecture again, thus requiring new drivers? The closest thing I could find to an answer was a thread in which it was mentioned that the display driver model was again updated, thus requiring new display drivers, but not much else (e.g., audio cards, printers, chipsets, etc.)

• Forbid links to open new tabs in Google Chrome

  I'm looking for a solution to forbid links in Google Chrome to open new tabs (in most cases it is a target="_blank" issue). So, I want all links to open pages in currently active tab, not in new tab. I tried a wide range of addons (for ex. "Death to target=_blank") and greasemonkey scripts that are supposed to remove target=_blank attribute but none of them worked. It is extremally anoying when I want to switch between accounts in GMail or navigate from GMail to GDrive. I always get the new tab opened and I need to close last tab manually.

• New Key for expired certificate?

  I need to create a new certificate for an internal server. It is self signed. Is there an easy way to just extend the expiration date of the current certificate? If not, can I reuse the current key, or do I need to generate a new one? I'll be using Java keytool. I bought a domain xyz.com without hosting from godaddy.com and i want to host it to my new server. in godaddy.com i already follow this steps http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=237604. i also have installed plesk in my new server and create a domain with the name xyz.com and set the A record for xyz.com to 128.98.34.112, and set the NS record to ns1.xyz.com and ns2.xyz.com. But until now i still can not open the xyz.com from browser. Whats wrong? Do I need to install active directory to host a domain? thanks
