    I'd like to use a template operator() but am not sure if it's possible. Here is a simple test case that won't compile. Is there something wrong with my syntax, or is this simply not possible? struct A { template<typename T> void f() { } template<typename T> void operator()() { } }; int main() { A a; a.f<int>(); // This compiles. a.operator()<int>(); // This compiles. a<int>(); // This won't compile. return 0; }

  • Possible to add hook as android fetches XML-strings?

    I'm on my first week with android and would appreciate any insight if it's possible to hook or override the default behaviour when an android application reads their values from the resource-files to the shown layouts. What I want is to over time be able to add new/updated strings OTA and store locally and then on launch of application load new values instead of the ones in the default /res. Ideally i guess, would be an override of setContentView. Files holding updates will be in same xml-format as those in /res. (Please, no advices in other ways to do this. Just need to know if it's at all possible, without hacking the SDK) regards, /t

    Why is it possible to create an interface without specifying a return type? Why doesn't this make this interface unusable? This makes it more Clear: Interface run { public function getInteger(); } class MyString implements run { public function myNumber() { } public function getInteger() { return "Not a number"; } } In Java every Interface has a return type like Integer, String or Void I know that PHP is unfortunately a loosely typed Language but isn't there a Solution to that Problem? Is it possible to define an Interface with a return type like Integer?

  • Is it possible to put a form control on its own thread?

    I'm using a DataGridView and some operations that I do cause it to become unresponsive for periods of time. Normally I would put data processing in its own thread to make the form more responsive, but in this case it's the DataGridView itself that's taking so long. This leads me to wonder whether it's possible to have the main form on one thread and the DataGridView on another thread so it doesn't prevent the main form from responding. I completely understand that doing so is probably not 'safe' and likely opens up a can of worms that makes it hardly worth trying and I fully expect this post will be getting down votes for merely suggesting such a ridiculous idea. Is this possible? And if so how would you go about it?

  • Is it possible to play multiple audio streams from one "jukebox" to multiple Airport Express devices?

    I have set up a Mac mini as a jukebox that streams audio to an Airport Express in another room in the house, using the AirPlay/AirTunes feature in iTunes. I control this with the iOS Remote app, and this works great. At the present time, it looks like the Mac mini's copy of iTunes gets taken over by the Remote app, while streaming. If I set up a second Airport Express in room B, is there a way to set it up (as well as the jukebox) so that it can receive and play its own unique music stream ("stream B"), separate from what's going on at the Mac mini, or in room A, which is playing stream A? To accomplish this, I would be happy to buy a copy of Rogue Amoeba's AirFoil if it will allow sending multiple, separate audio streams from one computer to the multiple wireless bridges, while using the Remote app (or a Rogue Amoeba equivalent for iOS). However, it is unclear to me from their site documentation, whether that is possible or not. I'd prefer to give the points to an answer that solves this problem. If you don't know if it can be done, or do not think it can be done, please allow others to answer. I appreciate your help. Thanks for your advice.

    I read economics at university(nothing to see with linux, isn't it? :P). I have some basic knowledge about booting process, Linux Kernel compiling from source and stuff like that. But of course I have still much to learn sometimes some errors appears and "voila" I am lost. I had: Ubuntu, Fedora, OpenSuse, Arch.. using Gentoo now. I'd like to know what you linux users, professionals, administrators... would think it is the best way to learn linux in a professional way. Is it worth studying it and passing the LPIC test enough to work in the linux world? or do I need going to IT uni? I've heard LFS is a good way of learning about linux, is that real? I've been thinking about getting to LFS learn about more deeply about the linux process and learning scripts.   • On dual boot system, Is it possible to use VirtualBox to boot other installed OS?

    I currently run Windows 7 from a 256GB SSD as my Operating System. Lately, for school, I've been using openSUSE linux inside a VirtualBox PC and I'm really liking it. I'm starting to hate even working in Windows. But I can't just abandon Windows. I've been considering dual booting openSUSE and will likely purchase another SSD for openSUSE. Once I have the dual boot set-up, there is going to be times I need to do something quick in the operating system that I'm not currently in. It would be a pain to have to reboot the computer each time I need to switch the OS for a simple task, especially from Windows since it doesn't let you save it's state. From openSUSE, I want to be able to start a VirtualBox Machine using my Windows Drive. And in Windows, I want to be able to start a VirtualBox Machine of my openSUSE Drive. Would this be possible? The issue I'm worried about is drivers. For instance, the OS will be installed on native hardware and have the native hardware's drivers configured. When I try to boot the OS in a VirtualMachine, I feel like the OS is not going to know what to do, and have to reconfigure itself or just not work.

    first question on StackExchange ever. I hope I got the right board. I'm trying to create a device (either from a standard AP or some other unconventional means) that will be able to detect nearby Wi-Fi enabled devices. For example, if a cellular phone (iPhone for instance) would be carried into the secured area, its MAC address will be logged. A cellular phone is a good example because it's the most common threat that should be detected. Some important points: The detection can be either active or passive, doesn't matter. The detected device might be connected to a different network, or might not be connected to anything at all. I assume most cellular phones are actively probing when not connected, but I'm not sure. It is important to not only identify the breach, but also to identify the device (MAC address). Conventional hardware is only optional. Distance of detection is at least 6 meters (20 feet). Handling one device at a time is good. Speed of detection is important, under 5 seconds is ideal. So my question is, is this even possible? If so, what can I use in order to make this a reality?   • Is it possible to setup an internal test email server to keep all mail sent to it?

    We have a need at my work to setup a test email server that will take all mail sent to it for delivery and instead just dump it into an account for later retrieval. I've been out of the email server configuration game long enough that I think that's possible but I don't know for sure. As a more specific example of what we need: We have code that sends emails to outside clients in certain cases. We want to point our code to a test server that will accept those emails, but not let them get to the outside world (yes, it's happened before, oops). We then need to be able to verify that Email X would have gotten sent to Client Y if we had sent to the real server. As a bonus, we have a error email alias on our real server that goes to the programmers that we would like to keep getting email from. So anything sent to that alias on the test server would forward to our real server for delivery. My preference is for postfix but our IT staff seems set on using sendmail (or Exchange) for everything so hints/pointers for either server would be helpful. Thanks a lot.

  • Is it possible to mount a disk image, created with dd, to a directory on a mounted external usb hdd?

    I have an image of my home (/dev/sda3) partition, which I've created using the "dd" command. dd if=/dev/sda3 of=/path/to/disk.img I've deleted the home partition via gparted in order to enlarge my /dev/root partition. Then I've recreated the /dev/sda3 partition which is smaller in size then the one I've backed up to the image. I was wondering since I have a 2TB external HDD, could it be possible to mount my backed up image on the external HDD and then copy the files into the /home directory. Since the external HDD would be already in a "mounted state", I'm unsure whether this is a good idea, mounting on a mounted device. I'm running Slackware 13.37 (64bit). used ext4 on all the partitions. resized the root partition with gparted live cd. I've tried mount -t ext4 /path/to/disk.img /mng/image -o loop It gave me an fs error (wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on dev/loop/0) Then i did dmesg | tail which outputs: EXT4-fs (loop0) : bad geometry: block count 29009610 exceeds size of defice (1679229 blocks) I have no idea what to do, I want to restore my /home data from the image I've backed up.

  • Is it possible to use rsync over sftp (without an ssh shell)?

    Rsync over ssh, works great every time. However, trying to rsync to a host which allows only sftp logins, but not ssh logins, provides the following error: rsync -av /source ssh user@remotehost:/target/ protocol version mismatch -- is your shell clean? (see the rsync man page for an explanation) rsync error: protocol incompatibility (code 2) at compat.c(171) [sender=3.0.6] Here's the relevant section from the rsync man page: This message is usually caused by your startup scripts or remote shell facility producing unwanted garbage on the stream that rsync is using for its transport. The way to diagnose this problem is to run your remote shell like this: ssh remotehost /bin/true > out.dat then look at out.dat. If everything is working correctly then out.dat should be a zero length file. If you are getting the above error from rsync then you will probably find that out.dat contains some text or data. Look at the contents and try to work out what is producing it. The most com- mon cause is incorrectly configured shell startup scripts (such as .cshrc or .profile) that contain output statements for non-interactive logins. Trying this on my system produced the following in out.dat: ssh-dummy-shell: Command not allowed. As I thought, the host is not allowing ssh logins. The following link shows that it is possible to accomplish this task using fuse with sshfs - however it is extremely slow, and not fit for production use. Is there any chance of getting rsync sftp to work?

  • Is it possible to provide a wired ethernet connection to external devices with an extra LAN card?

    I'm trying to provide a wired ethernet connection (wireless is not an option for this device) to a device (Samsung blu-ray player) without running Cat5 cable all over the home. I have a PC sitting next to this device and the PC is connected to the network via a wireless USB adapter. Is it possible to provide a wired connection from the PC to the wired device using the (currently unused) ethernet port in the back of the computer? Here's how I envision the device getting connected to the internet via my network: Linksys WRT54G v8 Wireless Router | ``--> Windows 7 PC connected via wireless | ``--> Blu-ray player connected via wired connection to the ethernet port on the PC. If so, how is this done? Will I need a crossover cable? What settings will I need to change in Windows 7 so that the device can connect? NOTE: I'm trying to avoid having to buy a wireless bridge and/or hacking a router with an open-source firmware to get this to work. See my previous question for more details.
