  In Oracle there is a mechanism to generate sequence numbers e.g.; CREATE SEQUENCE supplier_seq MINVALUE 1 MAXVALUE 999999999999999999999999999 START WITH 1 INCREMENT BY 1 CACHE 20; And then execute the statement supplier_seq.nextval to retrieve the next sequence number. How would you create the same functionality in MS SQL Server ? Edit: I'm not looking for ways to automaticly generate keys for table records. I need to generate a unique value that I can use as an (logical) ID for a process. So I need the exact functionality that Oracle provides.

  Hello: I have a collection of physical parameters associated with different items. For example: Item, p1, p2, p3 a, 1, 2, 3 b, 4, 5, 6 [...] where px stands for parameter x. I could go ahead and store the database exactly as presented; the schema would be CREATE TABLE t1 (item TEXT PRIMARY KEY, p1 FLOAT, p2 FLOAT, p3 FLOAT); I could retrieve the parameter p1 for all the items with the statement: SELECT p1 FROM t1; A second alternative is to have an schema like: CREATE TABLE t1 (id INT PRIMARY KEY, item TEXT, par TEXT, val FLOAT) This seems much simpler if you have many parameters (as I do). However, the parameter retrieval seems very awkward: SELECT val FROM t1 WHERE par == 'p1' What do you advice? Should go for the "pivoted" (first) version or the id, par, val (second) version? Not types, but..). Now I have several questions on this: Is there a table of comparison for java vs c++ types? If type conversions is the problem, in my situation (I have a db with OLEDate records, already created with some c++ program. I need to read and write to that db, so that the OLEDate field compatibility remained: my java code reads proper dates, and c++ program is not affected with what the java program wrote to the db.), what would you do: Use COleDateTime to retrieve the date with JNI? Create your own implementation at all costs (using broader types, or anything else)? Is there anything, I'm missing here?

  I'd like to convert this JSON to a data model in Cassandra, where each of the arrays is a set with no duplicates: var data = { "data1": { "100": [1, 2, 3], "200": [3, 4] }, "data2": { "k1", [1], "k2", [4, 5] } } I'd like to query like this: data["data1"]["100"] to retrieve the sets. Anyone know how you might model this in Cassandra? (The only thing I came up with was columns whose name was a set value and the value of the column was an empty string, but that felt wrong.) It's not OK to serialize the sets as JSON or some other string, which would make this much easier. Also, I should note that it's OK to split data1 and data2 into separate ColumnFamilies, it's not necessary that they're keys in the same one.

  When I retrieve an object say by $em->find('Application\Models\User', 1); or other methods like DQL, findBy*() cause the __construct() of the model class to run? I am having a problem where I set variables there like reference to EntityManager and I find that its not set. I tried putting a die() in __construct() and it doesn't halt the application. Can I say that if I want to set other properties/fields like EntityManager $em I have to do it some other way?   I have a button that is hidden under certain circumstances that I wish to test. The button is hidden with [theButton setHidden: YES] in the viewDidLoad method if it is appropriate. For simplicity, lets say that the button is hidden when the buttonIsHidden property is set to true in the view controller. Right now I am trying the following: self.viewController = [[ViewController alloc] init]; self.viewController.buttonIsHidden = YES; [self.viewController loadView]; UIButton *theButton = [...] // function I wrote to retrieve the button based on it's touch up inside action if (theButton) { NSLog(@"%c", theButton.hidden); return (theButton.hidden == true) } return NO; It looks like the hidden property is not what it should be, the NSLog lines from the above code are blank. But, if I output another property like the height, it outputs the correct value so I know it is getting the right button. How do I access the hidden property of the button in this case?

I know how to get the top 10 but I`m stuck on getting the remaining in a single row. Is there a simple way to do it? For example if the above query returns 17 records the top ten are displayed and a sum of the users from the 7 remaining country should appear on row 11.   I have a struts2 action with an @Secured({"ROLE_ADMIN"}) to secure the execute method. In the execute method i assign a message to a member variable of the action, then return SUCCESS and end up on the jsp page. On the page I retrieve the actions member variable with <sroperty. private String greeting; public String execute() throws Exception { this.greeting="Hello"; return SUCCESS; } // getters and setters for greeting ... <s:property value="greeting" /> The problem is when the secured annotation is present the jsp shows nothing for the member variable but when @Secured is removed the whole thing behaves properly and shows the message that was set into the member variable. It appears that the actual security is working ok but when enabled via the annotation the member variable (or maybe the instance of the action) is not making its way onto the value stack. I cant see any error messages.

I'm attempting to pass query string variables (and then retrieve them) in my Silverlight 4 app. First I tried this this.NavigationService.Navigate(new Uri("/LoanProductionRegion?Elvis=Alive&ImHungry=true", UriKind.Relative)); But HtmlPage.Document.QueryString doesn't pick them up because they come after the anchor (the full url looks like http://localhost:1076/Dashboard.SLTestPage.aspx#/LoanProductionRegion?Elvis=Alive&ImHungry=true). I tried to put the vars in front, such as this.NavigationService.Navigate(new Uri("?Elvis=Alive&ImHungry=true/LoanProductionRegion", UriKind.Relative)); this.NavigationService.Navigate(new Uri("/?Elvis=Alive&ImHungry=true/LoanProductionRegion", UriKind.Relative)); But both result in a "Page not found" error. Anyone know how to achieve what I'm after?

The SECOND item I get has * Where is this second entry coming from? This is an Allow Rule, not a Deny rule. I could understand the * from a Deny rule. Is there some extra inheritance I'm not aware of?

Although the above reasons are good, I don't know SOLR THAT well, so I need to know if it would be appropriate for my requirements. Ideal Usage Ideally, I'd like to configure SOLR, and then be able to send SOLR some text, and retrieve the indexed tonkenized content. • Hibernate: how to maintain insertion order

  I have a list of entities where creation order is important, but they do not contain a timestamp to use for sorting. Entities are added to the end of the list as they are created so they will be ordered correctly in the list itself. After persisting the list using Hibernate the entities appear in the database table in the order that they were created. However when retrieving the list using a new Hibernate session the list is now in reverse order of insertion/creation. Is this expected behaviour? Is there any way to retrieve the list in the same order as it appears in the table? The primary key is a UUID, and the list of entities should always have been created on the same IP address and JVM. This mean sorting by UUID is a possibility but I'd rather not make assumptions. Another possibility is if the list is guaranteed to always come out in reverse order I could always just work through it backwards.

This would be a library that would basic consist of the concept of nodes & relationships, for example to model web pages/files linked under a URL, or modeling IT infrastructure. It would have key methods such as: Node.GetDirectParents() Node.GetRootParents() Node.GetDirectChildren() Node.GetAllChildren() So it's smarts would include the ability to "walk the tree" of nodes based on the relationships when someone does ask for "give me all the children under this node" for example. It ideally include a persistence layer, to save/retrieve such data to/from a databases (e.g. with a Nodes and Relationships table). Thanks

It appears since the xmlns is defined without an alias it automatically assigns that xmlns to the Settings node. When I read this XML into an XMLDocument and view the namespaceURI value for the Settings node it is set to "urn:schemas-stuff-com".
