  I get this error when trying to run a program on a Windows computer: Because it's a Dutch Windows version it is in Dutch, but in English it would be something like "Procedure entry point EncodePointer could not be located in kernel32.dll". I've been looking for a solution on the net and I think it has something to do with SP's of Windows. This are the system settings: Does this mean I'm not using any Windows XP Service Pack? I'm working on this for someone else, it's an old computer, not connected to the internet. Should I connect the computer to the internet and install all Windows updates to solve the problem? No other solution?

• symbolic link and filezilla over sftp

  I'm pretty new to debian, and I'm trying to set up a server. I created a user which can only access to his folder /home/username (and its subdirectory). Now I want to use that user for the webserver I set up, and I gave him access to /var/www but I can't see /var/www through sftp and i did a symbolic link like this root@server:/home/username# ln -s /var/www www root@server:/home/username# cd www root@server:/home/username/www# chown username:username * now, with filezilla, I can see www folder like this - but when I try to open it I get this - Where am I going wrong? sorry for my awful english, i hope you can understand my problem...

• Can't get MultiViews to work on Apache 2.2 - negotiation problem

  Hi I can't get MultiViews to set up properly on my Apache 2.2. When I go to filtered.com/something, I expect it to execute something.pl but it doesn't. I get a Error 404 page. • Added autossh in rc.local, but the dynamic port forwarding won't work

  I am using Rasbian on my newly arrived Rasp.Pi, and decided to make it my own proxy server. Now I need to set up a ssh tunnel on the Pi to my Linode server, and make it auto start with the system. What did I do: Add this line to /etc/rc.local autossh -f theRemoteServer -N -D 5555 -L 1234:localhost:22 After I reboot, I found out that I can't use the localhost:5555 as a socks proxy. So I type the command ps -A | grep ssh then I can see the autossh and ssh all running: pi@raspberrypi ~ $ ps -A | grep ssh 2018 ? 00:00:00 sshd 2116 ? 00:00:00 autossh 2119 ? 00:00:00 sshd 2195 ? 00:00:00 sshd 3173 ? 00:00:00 ssh (I've installed autossh, and the command works if I type it manually.) • How to install/change locale on Debian?

  I've written a web application for which the user interface is in Dutch. I use the system's date and time routines to format date strings in the application. However, the date strings that the system formats are in English but I want them in Dutch, so I need to set the system's locale. How do I do that on Debian? I tried setting LC_ALL=nl_NL but it doesn't seem to have any effect: $ date Sat Aug 15 14:31:31 UTC 2009 $ LC_ALL=nl_NL date Sat Aug 15 14:31:36 UTC 2009 I remember that setting LC_ALL on my Ubuntu desktop system works fine. Do I need to install extra packages to make this work, or am I doing it entirely wrong?

  When I make a restore point and I come back to restore the windows 7, it gives this error: No restore point have been created on your computer system drives, to create a restore point open system protection. I've made a restore point why does it give this error? What should I do? I completely know how to make restore points and I've made some on the laptop and other devices but in my computer which have windows 7 when I make restore point and when I want to use them it gives the error! Please help. I'm not English so can't speak it well.

• How can I keep websites from knowing where I live?

  This questions is related to issues and practicality, not security. I live in Brazil and, apparently, every single website I visit knows about it. Usually that's ok, but there are quite a few sites that don't make use of that information adequately. For instance: Bing keeps thinking that brazilian pages are way more relevant to me than american ones (which they're not). Google.com always redirects me to google.com.br. Microsoft automatically sends me to horribly translated support pages in portuguese (which would just be easier to read in english). These are just a few examples. Usually it's stuff I can live with (or work around), but some of them are just plain irritating. I have geolocation disabled in firefox, so I guess they're either getting this information from my IP or from windows itself (which I bought here). Is there a way to avoid this? Either tell them nothing or make them think I live somewhere else? Thanks

• Why does Finder keeping showing me menus in Spanish?

  This has happened before. A full reboot fixed it. This time: no go. The bottom of my menus, when I command-click on a file in Finder, are in Spanish. You can see a screen grab here: http://twitpic.com/10c63y How can I stop this from happening? I'm sure I inadvertantly hit a key combination that did this, but I'm stumped as to what that was. My System Preference settings for Language & Text have language set to Canadian English.

  I'd like to search all files that are different from a specific extension. So, if I search files by using the string *.doc I'd like to see every files that are not .doc. I also would like to hidden the sub-folders in the result display by using that search (but the search must of course search into sub-folders) :) Is it possible this on Windows Vista/7? SOLUTION Finded the solution by using this string NOT *.doc AND NOT tipologia:=cartella This for the italian version. English should be similar, somethings like NOT *.doc AND NOT kind:=folder

• URI Scheme, launch program in its directory

  I have registered URI scheme for my app. When I open it with "Run.." or in browser, it runs in hosted directory. For ex. Ive opened url in webpage, program's working dir is in browser. What I want? I want to run program test.exe located at C:\data\test.exe and to use dir. C:\data so it could use other data in relative path. so test.exe would access file .\file.txt without using absolute path Hope I wrote it understandable, sorry for bad English.

• Creating 2 IIS asp.net applications and making 1 the root.

  I'm using godaddy. I have 2 applications I want to install on the server. One named en and the other fr (english and french). On the en application, I checked Make Application Root. Now I assumed I could go to www.mysite.com and it automatically loads www.mysite.com/en/. I have to go to the directory manually. How do I fix this? My file structure is: www.mysite.com/en for the en app and www.mysite.com/fr for the fr app.

  My ISP has set up the TTL to 1. My current router Linksys WRT120N can't change this and my computers don't have connection to Internet. I will return my current router and take another. I have some options: D-Link DIR-615 D-Link DIR-320 Linksys WRT54G2 Linksys WRT54GL Is the last router the only fix (among these routers) to my problem? • Take all fields in a database table and put them straight into a text file

  I have an database file (mdb) file that contains a dictionary of words. A couple thousand of them. I just need the words (in the order they are already in) put into a text file. Currently they have ID's associated with them (e.g. 1, 2, 3) but I don't need it. I just need the words. What is the best way to do this? Actually, if somebody is able to find a dictionary of English words (something along the lines of a scrabble dictionary) that is free online, I'll accept that too. I just can't seem to find any good ones online.

  I tried to switch from Java 5 to Java 6 using the "update-java-alternatives" command like explained on this page: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Java But afterwards I get the following error when I tried to execute java: root@webserver:~# java Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap Could not create the Java virtual machine. I also tried to reinstall the java binaries using "apt-get" but I didn't succeed reinstalling it. I would like to post the "apt-get" errors, but unfortunately I don't know how to print out the error messages in English and not in German. My system is a Ubuntu 8.04 ROOT server.

  No matter which mirror I use, I get this error. I've tried a few times over the last several weeks. Should I just ignore this error? I can't even find a plain English explanation of what libopensp is.

• Upgrading from MySQL Server to MariaDB

  I've heard that MariaDB has better performance than MySQL-Server. I'm running software that makes an intensive use of MySQL, thats why I want to try upgrading to MariaDB. Please tell me your experiences doing this conversion, and instructions or tips. Also, which files I should take care of for making a backup of MySQL-Server, so if something goes wrong with MariaDB, I could rollback to MySQL without issues? • Acad 14 SOLIDS disappeared, DWG file doesn't open correctly

  I made a drawing in Autocad 14 (Win XP) containing of mostly SOLID's. I saved and re-opened it multiple times without any problem. Before I last saved it I viewed my drawing using the SHADE functions. After re-opening all my SOLIDS have disappeared. I spent numerous hours searching for a solution, tried SATFIX.ARX , AUDIT, RECOVER without success (ACIS error - which should be gone after applying SATFIX), changed my computer locale from German (decimal = comma) to English (decimal = dot) but my screen remains empty (and yes I tried to recover from a .BAK, too) I also tried to export (the non-display drawing) into DXF and can confirm that all my objects are in there, but re-opening the DXF results in a huge ACIS error list again I am desperate - please can someone help - thanks! CPU2 Status: Processor sensors for CPU2, IERR was deasserted I've Googled it, random forum posts aren't providing me with a clear answer. It's also apparently not a word: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/deassert?s=t I can guess the meaning. Assert: to state with assurance, confidence, or force Okay. So the negative of that. The state of lack-of-confidence? What is this error message trying to tell me? Memory errors were grouped with this one: is it trying to say that IERR for CPU2 should be set, but is not? That the current system state is SNAFU but CPU2 sees everything as fine?

• Windows 7 unresponsive after hibernate.

  The last few days, when I get Windows out of hibernate, Windows itself gets unresponsive. I can use any of my programs that were already opened before hibernating, but the window functions (closing, changing the size etc) aren't reacting. I can't open any new programs, except for the Task Manager. Also, I don't get an Internet connection. When I use Ctrl + Alt + Del, I get either a black screen, or the regular background. Then it hangs and after a while shows me a message that Windows failed starting up that "thing"(don't know what it's called in English, something with safety, etc). I have Windows 7 Ultimate installed.

• Webcam on Sony Vaio on Win 7 problem

  Anyone know where I can get a Win 7 32Bit driver for my Web Cam (Vaio VGN-CR11H/B) ? I changed operating system from Chinese Vista to English Win 7 Update: Windows 7 will not detect the cam, but I just read the Sony Europe site and it gives me some ideas to try. I can dual boot this Sony laptop: with Chinese Vista, the camera works but IE8 does not work. I cannot read Chinese to fix the Internet access issue, but I can get the computer online and Skype works. When I boot with the new Win 7, IE 8 works great, but the cam doesn't work (mic and speakers work). Very perplexing problem.

• Audio splitting and noise removal on Windows

  My mother has about 100 hours of audio in a mix of MP3 and WAV files, the digitized versions of her vinyl records. Each file contains about 5 songs with a few seconds of (noisy) pause between them. My mother needs software for Windows XP with which she can listen to the files, find the gaps manually, split the files at the gaps found, reduce noise on each song, and export the songs to individual MP3 files. My mother has very limited software user skills and affinity, and she doesn't speak English. The simpler the software, the better for her, even if noise reduction is worse than with a more sophisticated, but more complicated software. I'd prefer free software, freeware or shareware (which can do all above). Please recommend something much simpler than Audacity. The software should guide the user through the process, always showing the next few available steps, and being intuitive in the sense that there are only a few allowed actions and it's obvious what they are and how to activate them. Which software would you recommend?

• OS X Terminal ends session at opening : permission denied

  I have an issue with Terminal on MacOS X 10.7.4. I know where it comes from, but I don't know how to solve it : Yesterday, I installed fish-shell as a shell replacement. Following the installation instructions, I ended typing the following command : chsh -s /usr/local/bin/fish I noticed I had to do a : sudo bash for it to work. Once done, I quit. Today, I try to run Terminal and I see te following message : Last login: Wed Jun 27 12:38:01 on ttys000 login: /usr/local/bin/fish: Permission denied [Opération terminée] (yes, I'm French, which explains my poor English). I cannot type any command since I have no access to the Terminal. I tried with iTerm2 but same issue. No command is set at launch in the default profile of Terminal/iTerm2 (well, in the UI). How can I take the power back ? Thank you.
