  Does anyone know of any issues with the ILClone() function on Windows 2000? Is it fully supported? MSDN says it runs on Windows 2000 but I have a user reporting that my program will not run on Windows 2000 because of that function. EDIT: I was able to get a hold of a Win2K system and I can confirm the issue. Shell32.dll version installed is 5.0.3700.6705. The error message shown when running the program is: The procedure entry point ILClone could not be located in the dynamic link library SHELL32.DLL

• Correct ifdef for DWORD_PTR, INT_PTR, LONG_PTR, UINT_PTR, ULONG_PTR etc?

  There are some new integer types in the Windows API to support Win64. They haven't always been suppoprted; e.g. they aren't present in MSVC6. How can I write an #if condition to detect if these types are supported by <windows.h>? (My code needs to compile under many different versions of Microsoft Visual C++, including MSVC6. So I need to provide my own definitions of these types, with an #if to disable them in newer compilers).

• Is there a recommended way to use the Observer pattern in MVP using GWT?

  I am thinking about implementing a user interface according to the MVP pattern using GWT, but have doubts about how to proceed. These are (some of) my goals: - the presenter knows nothing about the UI technology (i.e. uses nothing from com.google.*) - the view knows nothing about the model or the presenter - the model knows nothing of the view or the presenter (...obviously) I would place an interface between the view and the presenter and use the Observer pattern to decouple the two: the view generates events and the presenter gets notified. What confuses me is that java.util.Observer and java.util.Observable are not supported in GWT. This suggests that what I'm doing is not the recommended way to do it, as far as GWT is concerned, which leads me to my questions: what is the recommended way to implement MVP using GWT, specifically with the above goals in mind? How would you do it?

• Subversion: svn protocol with HTTP/HTTPS proxy

  Hi all, I need to do a svn checkout,say svn checkout svn://XYZ.com/trunk. I am using the svn client from behind the proxy. I had accessed other repositries using the http protocol in past but with svn protocol,it fails with "Connection Refused", reason I think being the port not allowed by the proxy.Nonetheless, the HTTP protocol is not supported on the server. However, svn+ssh gets connected but it prompts for an account at that server which I don't have? Is there any way out other than requesting for an account? Note that I can't affect the settings of the proxy server.

• Efficiency of while(true) ServerSocket Listen

  I am wondering if a typical while(true) ServerSocket listen loop takes an entire core to wait and accept a client connection (Even when implementing runnable and using Thread .start()) I am implementing a type of distributed computing cluster and each computer needs every core it has for computation. A Master node needs to communicate with these computers (invoking static methods that modify the algorithm's functioning). The reason I need to use sockets is due to the cross platform / cross language capabilities. In some cases, PHP will be invoking these java static methods. I used a java profiler (YourKit) and I can see my running ServerSocket listen thread and it never sleeps and it's always running. Is there a better approach to do what I want? Or, will the performance hit be negligible? Please, feel free to offer any suggestion if you can think of a better way (I've tried RMI, but it isn't supported cross-language. Thanks everyone

• CoreFoundation Lite on Linux and Android

  I would like to use Apple's CoreFoundation library on linux and android. The source code is available here, but there is very little documentation on how to build it on Linux. As far as I could figure out, building is done through a script called BuildCFLite. I grepped for DEPLOYMENT_TARGET ./CFUtilities.c:#if DEPLOYMENT_TARGET_MACOSX || DEPLOYMENT_TARGET_EMBEDDED || DEPLOYMENT_TARGET_LINUX || DEPLOYMENT_TARGET_FREEBSD and Linux seems to be supported at first site by setting -DDEPLOYMENT_TARGET_LINUX, but some of the compiler flags in that script are not available on linux, so when I try to build I get an error. Does anybody have experience building the latest version of CoreFoundation for Linux? Also what are the dependencies for building CoreFoundation? Would it be feasible to use it in the Android NDK?

  The specific problem is, the support of condition variable on Windows begins from Vista, for early version of Windows (Windows XP), I have a emulated condition variable code sort of solved the problem. However, I'd like to have the ability to call native condition variable API when the system supported and fallback to my version only on XP and earlier version. I tried to detect windows version with GetVersionInfo API, but it still gives me error on start time (cannot find API entry of InitializeConditionVariable sort of). I am not familiar with Windows programming, how do you solve the gentle fallback problem nicely?

Feel free to suggest any good (in your opinion) VB6- compatible option. I can check out whether it meets our other criteria below. Required Features: Activate multiple programs (Ok if it generates a separate code for each one) Works with VB6 and VB.net. A VB6-compatible DLL should be fine. Still supported (nice to have but not absolutely required Compatible with Windows 2000 through 7. Nice-to-have features (but not required) * Work without internet access * Works through a firewall (this may be a tough one) Any suggestions?

• Why isn't UTF-8 allowed as the "ANSI" code page?

  The Windows _setmbcp function allows any valid code page... (except UTF-7 and UTF-8, which are not supported) OK, not supporting UTF-7 makes sense: Characters have non-unique representations and that introduces complexity and security risks. But why not UTF-8? As I understand it, the "ANSI" versions of the Windows API functions convert their arguments to UTF-16, call the equivalent "W" function, and convert any strings in the output to "ANSI". This is what I've been doing manually. So why can't Windows do it for me?

• OpenAL - determine maximum sources

  Is there an API that allows you to define the maximum number of OpenAL "sources" allowed by the underlying sound hardware? Searching the internet, I found 2 recommendations : keep generating OpenAL sources till you get an error. However, there is a note in FreeSL (OpenAL wrapper) stating that this is "very bad and may even crash the library" assume you only have 16; why would anyone ever require more? (!) The second recommendation is even adopted by FreeSL. So, is there a common API to define the number of simultaneous "voices" supported? Thank you for your time, Bill

Here is the code snippet Bitmap myBitmap = new Bitmap(@"c:\file.bmp"); for (int Xcount = 0; Xcount < myBitmap.Width; Xcount++) { for (int Ycount = 0; Ycount < myBitmap.Height; Ycount++) { myBitmap.SetPixel(Xcount, Ycount, Color.Black); } } Every time I get the following exception: Unhandled Exception: System.InvalidOperationException: SetPixel is not supported for images with indexed pixel formats.   I am look for a server side PDF library (or command line tool) which can: split a multi-page PDF file into individual PDF files, based on a search result of the PDF file content Examples: Search "Page ???" pattern in text and split the big PDF into 001.pdf, 002,pdf, ... ???.pdf A server program will scan the PDF, look for the search pattern, save the page(s) which match the patten, and save the file in the disk. It will be nice with integration with PHP / Ruby. Command line tool is also acceptable. It will be a server side (linux or win32) batch processing tool.   Im currently uploading data to MS SQL server via SQLBulkCopy and Transactions. I would like to be able to raise an event after each batch has been uploaded (I have already tried SQLRowsCopied event and it doesnt work, see quote below) MSDN quote: No action, such as transaction activity, is supported in the connection during the execution of the bulk copy operation, and it is recommended that you not use the same connection used during the SqlRowsCopied event. However, you can open a different connection. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.data.sqlclient.sqlbulkcopy.sqlrowscopied(v=vs.80).aspx So i basically cant have my cake and eat it :( Does anyone know a solution around this as i would like to fire an event after each batch has been uploaded.   It appears to me that it matters whether you use a variable to temporary store an IQueryable or not. See the simplified example below: This works: List<string> jobNames = new List<string> { "ICT" }; var ictPeops = from p in dataContext.Persons where ( from j in dataContext.Jobs where jobNames.Contains(j.Name) select j.ID).Contains(p.JobID) select p; But when I use a variable to temporary store the subquery I get an exception: List<string> jobNames = new List<string> { "ICT" }; var jobs = from j in dataContext.Jobs where jobNames.Contains(j.Name) select j.ID; var ictPeops = from p in dataContext.Persons where jobs.Contains(p.JobID) select p; "System.NotSupportedException: Queries with local collections are not supported" I don't see what the problem is. Isn't this logic that is supposed to work in LINQ?

  Hello SO, I want to be able to develop code using Visual Studio 2010. I just got VS2010 and I'm not able to get the languages I want on it. The main reason that I'm asking this is that I'm trying to migrate to ONE IDE that does it all for me. Thus far eclipse has been doing a good job, but I've been informed that VS2010 is better and I'm trying to get into the groove of that standard So my question is two-fold. I am not able to find a complete list of languages supported by VS2010. What are these languages? How can I get VS2010 support for: a. Python/IronPython b. C/C++/C#/XNA c. Java My Googling has given me no promising/definitive results. I'd really appreciate any help.

• How do I apply css for textboxes only but not for all the <input> types like CheckBoxes, etc.?

  If all browsers supported attribute selectors, we could easily do the following: input[type='text'] { font:bold 0.8em 'courier new',courier,monospace; } input[type='radio'] { margin:0 20px; } input[type='checkbox'] { border:2px solid red; But I don't think all IE versions of ^ and greater support this. I think I'd like to avoid skins. Not sure why, other than I tried them and I recall having a negative experience. It was probably my lack of knowledge. Are there any issues in using and CSS, external or otherwise? What's the best way to handle this? Currently I am assigning separate classes to each control type.

• Css3 Transition on background transparent not working in Chrome 5

  I`m trying to create an animation using CSS3 transition. The animation is a gradient background that should change his color (rgba). I used the webkit tag for the gradient and it`s working in Chrome 5.0.375.55. Looking into w3c site I see that "background-image - only gradients" is supported for the transition. (http://www.w3.org/TR/css3-transitions/) But I can only animate the background-color property with this version of chrome. With gradient the transition does not work. Does anyone managed to create an animation with background gradients?

I'm hoping that some of you veteran Oracle developers have any recollection of in what order do these diskette images need to be loaded, since I don't have any documentation available for 6.0.33. A friend emailed me the following 720K diskette images: INSTALLE.IMG RDBMS1.IMG RDBMS2.IMG RDBMS3.IMG RSF.IMG SQLLDR1.IMG SQLLDR2.IMG UTIL1.IMG UTIL2.IMG UTIL3.IMG Within Virtual PC, I capture a diskette image, one at a time, into Drive A: VPC's floppy disk emulation supports FAT12, so the supported diskette formats can be: 720K or 1.44MB. If anyone happens to have documentation for this legacy version, I would greatly appreciate a copy of it! Thank You.

• IIS7 301 Redirect from a List of URLs

  Recent changes are forcing me to add a bunch of 301 redirects. Seems that IIS7 is my best bet as compared to redirects within the files. I have found how to add them 1 by 1 but this requires the page/folder to exist (which most don't anymore(and creating them seems to defeat the point of the redirect)) and does not work on dynamic urls. I also cannot go to every page and add the redirects at the page level because some older pages are in php which is no longer supported on the new server. • "Attach to process" missing from Delphi 7's Run menu

  I have to resurrect an ancient Delphi 7 application, which means I have to use the D7 IDE. Upgrading the project to a more recent version of Delphi unfortunately isn't an option. My new D7 installation's Run menu is missing Attach to Process. Aside from the missing menu item, the debugger works fine (I can debug normal Delphi executables started with Run). I know D7 supported this feature (it's in the help file), so does anyone have any idea what I've missed? The installation is Delphi 7 Enterprise (Version 7.0 Build 4.453). • flex strange problem with namespaces.

  I'm trying to understand what is going on with my namespaces since I upgraded to flash builder 4. xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" in the application and in the stylesheets: @namespace mx "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx"; Everything seems to be recognized correctly, however, I get a warning that says "borderThickness" is only supported by the halo theme (which I thought was in the mx theme). Now, when I try xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx" then it doesn;t recognize anything. Is there something I might be doing wrong here or confusing?

N.B. You can achieve this by using late binding, but losing the intellisense is not an option.

• Cant open Nerd Dinner 1.0 VS 2008 SP1 MVC 2

  I was trying to download some ASP.NET MVC Sample application to learn MVC. I tried Music Store and TownHall but they wont open in my VS2008.So I tried the common Nerddinner 1.0 but it gives error "The project Type is not supported by this installation" . I tried the 3rd Method suggested in the following post http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1002907/cant-open-nerddinner-project-in-vs2008 This is about changing the project type GUIDS.Now the project loads but when I run it throws an exception <add assembly="System.Web.Mvc, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral,PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35" /> I presume this is happening because the Nerddinner 1.0 is for MVC 1.0 and I have MVC 2.0 installed. How do I proceed now. I have spent a lot of time trying to get an MVC application working on my PC. I am happy if I can get any properly architected , MVC application of medium to high complexity to work on my PC. thanks
