• apache2 and php slow first load on Ubuntu VPS - something like mysqltuner but for apache?

  Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit VPS, 512Mb dedicated RAM. Mysql tuned so that sqltuner is completely happy. Used RAM never above 350Mb out of the 493 available. Load never exceeds 1.04 or so. httpd.conf tuned as per all the guides for vps of that memory - amount of preforks, spares etc. But for the FIRST load a site after having not visited for a while, it's taking ages. First load: Parse Time: 3.576 - Number of Queries: 50 - Query Time: 0.019723195953369 Reload Parse Time: 0.096 - Number of Queries: 39 - Query Time: 0.0066126374511719 Subsequent reloads will be at this speed. htop shows two items as soon as I load that page for the first time: php-cgi /usr/sbin/apache2 -k start I'm using suPHP but I've tried fast-cgi and cgi. Stuck now, a weekend of tweaking has brought me nothing. Advice appreciated.

• Possible reasons for high CPU load of taskmgr.exe process on VM?

  On a VMware virtual machine which has severe performance problems I can see a constant average of 20+ percent CPU load for the TASKMGR.EXE (task manager) process. The apps running on this server have lower load, around 4 to 10 percent average. The VM is running Windows 2003 Server Standard with 3.75 GB assigned RAM. I suspect that the task manager CPU load has something to do with other VM instances on the VMWare server but could not see a similar value on internal ESXi systems (the problematic VM runs in the customers IT).

• How can I fix a desktop right click delay in Windows 7?

  I am looking for information on how to properly troubleshoot a desktop right click delay in Windows 7 after 3rd party apps have been installed. I did find this program ShellMenuView. This will allow me to disable the context menu items of explorer. I can now use process of elimination to find the problem. Is this the best way to fix this issue? I would also like to avoid installing more apps to solve the problem. Can I go directly to the registry to fix this? Thanks

• ClickOnce manifest problem

  We are currently deploying a WPF 4 app via click once and there is a scenario when the installation fails. If the user does not have .Net 4.0 Full install and attempts to install our app the framework installs fine but the app fails to install. If we re-run the installation again the app installs fine. • jQuery rotator not rotating properly - too much recursion

  I've built a custom jQuery rotator using just basic animation to rotate the 3 Divs (images). I've built the function and then reinitiate the function using it as a call back.   I am trying to get a rudimentary NFS server up and running. Right now the server is configured as an NFS server due to a workaround for a vendor issue not supporting direct attached clustered storage, which we are trying to get them to resolve. The vendor software is Splunk. The splunk feature we are using requires files be located on shared storage (which for us is /mnt/nfs until they support a real clustered filesystem). Currently the server has a GFS2 filesystem mounted at bootup (it is the only server with the filesystem actively mounted so there should be no problems with locking). We went with GFS2 so switching over to a clustered filesystem is easy should the vendor begin supporting it. NFS is configured to mount that filesystem at /mnt/nfs, which the splunk installation than sees. Splunk is configured to find it's configuration files in /mnt/nfs. However, I am running into a problem where the splunk daemon starts before nfs is finished loading, and because it sees nothing at /mnt/nfs it starts creating files there, and then when the files disappear (nfs finishes mounting the share), splunk craps out. Splunk is set to run at runlevel 3, S90. NFS is set at runlevels 2-5, S60. Is there any way to delay the startup of the splunk process further?

  I have been using hostgators hatchling plan for three months. I got an email from the hosting that my website is creating an over load on CPU. They said that I am eating up their processor and as a precaution, they have temporarily suspended my account. When I contacted their customer support, they said: You have to optimize your database and use some sort of caching mechanism, where the script does not need to generate a new page with every request, helps to lower the over load that a script will cause. I am not a technical geek, I am wondering how I will do this thing. I don't have any resource to hire a web developer to do this job. My website is down for 48hours. I was using wp super cache along with cloudfare's free support. Now I have intalled optimize-db plugin and optimized my database. Please provide me with some more tips on how to optimize my database to reduce CPU usage. Any help would be appreciated.

• IIS 7 SSO stops working during high CPU load? [migrated]

  On our IIS7 site (Windows 2008 Server), we have set up single sign-on (SSO). It seems to work fine most of the time, but when the CPU load becomes high, SSO authentication completely stops working. I did some research and tried this suggestion to increase the max number of worker processes in the default app pool, but the increase did not help. Some details: The site is a WordPress blog. The server has plenty of RAM (2 GB) and free disk space. SSO is achieved by putting a copy of the WordPress login page (wp-login.php) into a subfolder below the root that has anonymous authentication disabled, and then redirecting the browser to it. This was the recommendation of Microsoft given to our consultants. To increase CPU load for testing, I have three scripts hit the home page simultaneously, over and over. This drives CPU to 100%. When these scripts are running, SSO authentication simply doesn't happen. As soon as I stop the scripts, SSO works again. (I should mention that the SSO problem also happens when many users visit the site at once....) The WordPress database process (mysqld) is not stressed at all by the scripts. I would be happy to provide further diagnostics. Any help appreciated!

• Missing 'DomContentLoaded' and 'load' time information in Firebug's Net Panel.

  Hello, Firebug is awesome in reporting the relative time when an HTTP request was made with respect to the 'DomContentLoaded' and 'load' time. However, once the 'load' event occurs (seen by the red line on the timeline), the requests thereafter do not have any information about how later they occurred with respect to the two events. To confuse things, these requests (usually at the bottom of the timeline) appear to have started right at the beginning of the page load. Could somebody shed some light on what should i infer when i see such entries in the timeline which do not have information about the 'DomContentLoaded' and 'load' event times and appear to have occurred after the page load event, still net panel shows that they started at the beginning? • How to delay program for a certain number of milliseconds, or until a key is pressed?

  I need to delay my program's execution for a specified number of milliseconds, but also want the user to be able to escape the wait when a key is pressed. If no key is pressed the program should wait for the specified number of milliseconds. I have been using Thread.Sleep to halt the program (which in the context of my program I think is ok as the UI is set to minimise during the execution of the main method). I have thought about doing something like this: while(GetAsyncKeyState(System.Windows.Forms.Keys.Escape) == 0 || waitTime > totalWait) { Thread.Sleep(100); waitTime += 100; } As Thread.Sleep will wait until at least the time specified before waking the thread up, there will obviously be a large unwanted extra delay as it is scaled up in the while loop. Is there some sort of method that will sleep for a specified amount of time but only while a condition holds true? Or is the above example above the "correct" way to do it but to use a more accurate Sleep method? If so what method can I use? Thanks in advance for your help.

So I thought I'd create one 'master' view - It's called template.php. This is the contents of the template view: <?php $view = $data['view']; $this->load->view('subviews/template/headerview'); $this->load->view('subviews/template/menuview'); $this->load->view($view); $this->load->view('subviews/template/sidebar'); $this->load->view('subviews/template/footerview'); ?> And then I thought I'd be able to call it from a controller like this: $data['view'] = 'homecontent'; $this->load->view('template',$data); Unfortunately I simply cannot make this work. Does anyone have any ways around this or fixes I can put into place? I've tried putting ""s and ''s around $view in template.php but that makes no difference. I am curious how I could implement something like this for my login system in PHP?

  I'm running an ASP.NET 4.0 web application on IIS6 (Windows Server 2003 x64). This app is one of many running on this server under the Default Web Site -- but is alone on it's own application pool because the other sites are all running ASP.NET 2.0 still. When I deploy my application, it works just fine until the application pool recycles or kills its worker process (by default 2 hours or 20 minutes with no activity). • Jquery - Loading a page with .load and selector doesn't execute script?

  I'm trying to load one page into another using the .load() method. This loaded page contains a script that I want to execute when it has finished loading. However it doesn't execute. If I stick a simple alert("") in the script of content.html it doesn't execute either. However, if I do away with the #toLoad selector in the .load() call, it works fine. I am not sure why this is, as the block is clearly in the scope of the #toLoad div. I don't want to avoid using the selector, as in reality the content.html will be a full HTML page, and I'll only want a select part out of it. Any ideas? If the script from content.html was in the .load() callback, it works fine, however I obviously don't want that logic contained within index.html. I could possibly have the callback use .getScript() to load "content.html.js" afterwards and have the logic in there, that seems to work? I'd prefer to keep the script in content.html, if possible, so that it executes fine when loaded normally too. In fact, I might do this anyway, but I would like to know why the above doesn't work.

Yes I did install the AMD video drivers recommended by Ubuntu. Programs take 2+ seconds to load, and I really don't tolerate that...Windows 7 loads programs as fast as my hdd allows Unless this is how Ubuntu is meant to work...then I'll just go back to Debian command-line.

  I have installed Ubuntu 12.10 version on my PC. I am running NTP service having NTP server as GPS. I found that when we start NTP service by ntp start command, PC is able to sync with GPS as i get '*' symbol before GPS IP when i run ntpq -p command. This remains good for some time and then the * symbol is removed which means that PC is not synchronized to that server.
