  I just want to load a simple *.fx file into my project to make a (pixel shader) effect. But whenever I try to compile my project, I get the following error in visual studio Error List: Errors compiling .. ID3DXEffectCompiler: There were no techniques ID3DXEffectCompiler: Compilation failed I already searched on google and found many people with the same problem. And I realized that it was a problem of encoding. With the return lines unrecognized '\ n' . I tried to copy and paste to notepad and save as with ASCII or UTF8 encoding. But the result is always the same. Do you have an idea please ? • How do I delay email delivery using Entourage 2008 with Exchange, e.g. using the X.400 Deferred-Delivery header?

  I'd like to delay the delivery of email that I send so that I can time delivery when the recipient is unlikely to be reading email and I can reduce the likelihood of getting into a chat-like conversation. I'm using Entourage 2008 and Exchange hosted by Rackspace. I tried naively adding a Deferred-Delivery header after reading http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2156.html and www.itu.int/rec/T-REC-F.400-199906-I/en , but my mail was delivered immediately. Ideally the delay would occur on the MTA instead of my MUA so that delivery would still occur even if my laptop were disconnected from the network at the delivery time I specify. My best workaround at the moment is to habitually use Entourage's Send Later button when composing mail and then click Send/Receive at the end of the day. This is less than ideal because recipients are often reading mail at the end of my day, and I often get immediate replies. Matt

• Hard-drive will randomly fail to load GRUB. Booting a live USB/CD fixes the issue temporarily

  I am running 12.04 64-bit and am dual booting with Win7, for full disclosure, although I suspect that has nothing to do with my problem. Occasionally the boot-loader(GRUB) will fail to load and I will be presented with a black screen with a single blinking line. There is no apparent pattern although I suspect there is one and it is related to a program I am running. This has happened to me eight out of ten power cycles now and I can fix it consistently, however, I have no idea why it happens. My current fix is to boot a live CD (I've tried both KNOPPIX and Ubuntu with the same result) and that's it. Somehow booting with the live CD is enough to "wake-up" my hard drive. I then reboot and GRUB magically appears again. So what is going on? Is it possible that a program is corrupting my MBR and the live CD is restoring it? How can I narrow down the possibilities? Thanks. Additional: This is still a problem. I'm convinced now that it is not hardware related as I've spent the last month and several boot cycles on Windows without a hiccup. Recently when I started using Ubuntu again the problem started again. I am more interested in figuring out what is going on rather than actually fixing the problem. Are there any tools, logs, etc. I can use to unravel this mystery?

  I have a wcf Service application in VS2010.My local machine is a 32 bit OS where as the server is a 64 bit. There are around 6 services in my solution. Im successfully able to host the application on IIS on my local machine.And it works fine. But when i try host that service application on Server i gets the below error Could not load file or assembly 'GMap.NET.Core' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. I do have reference added in my solution for GMap.NET.Core . I have tried to set the properties in my solution to Any CPU . Also in the application pool i have set the Enable 32-Bit Application to True. i have also set the Copy Local to TRUE in my solution before publishing. When i run the source on through my solution i dont get any error and the solution is built successfully. What else can i try to get my services successfully hosted on the Server and should be accessed through my application.

• Why do I often have to refresh pages I navigate to once for them (or content in them) to load?

  I have noticed a bizarre pattern when using my PC, that when I open a link to a website, it often will often take a very long time to load, or time out. Sometimes content on the website will be drawn, but again, it seems to get "stuck" for an unusual amount of time before finishing. Most affected is Youtube; almost every time I navigate to a youtube video from another website such as Google, the video will not begin playing, but will instead just display the player controls with a black screen where the video should be and the buffering symbol, usually before displaying an error such as "The video failed to load". The unusual part of this problem is that whenever this happens, refreshing the page always causes it to load almost immediately the second time around, without any problems. Note that I'm not talking about how some browsers will dump whatever has been cached to the "pallet" briefly when the page is refreshed or loading stopped; but that the second time loading the website being faster. I have done my best to rule out some of the obvious causes: My Windows 7 desktop computer is the only device that seems to be affected. I use Firefox on it (latest version, flash updated, etc). My connection has more than enough bandwidth (30 megabits down, 4 up), and I've even tried QoSing all other devices to make sure this isn't happening due to usage spikes. Wireshark is not showing any clearly unusual network activity (i.e frequently dropped packets).

  I'm a self taught back end engineer so I'm learning all of this stuff as I go along. For the longest time, I've been using basic authentication for my users. Many developers are advising against this approach since each request will contain the username & password in clear text. Anyone with the right skills can sniff on the connection between my iOS application and my Django/Gunicorn Server and obtain their password. I wouldn't want to put my user's credentials at risk so I would like to implement a more secure way of authentication. SSL seems to be the most viable option. My server doesn't serve any static content or anything crazy of that sort. All the server does is send and receive "json" responses from and to my iOS application. Here is my current topology. iOS application ------ Amazon Elastic Load Balancer ------- EC2 Instances running HTTP Gunicorn. Gunicorn runs on port 8000. I have a CNAME record from GoDaddy for the Amazon Elastic Load Balancer DNS. So instead of using the long DNS to make requests, I just use server.example.com. To interact with my servers I send and receive requests to server.example.com:8000/ This setup works and has been solid. However I need to have a more secure way. I would like to setup SSL between my iOS application and my Elastic Load Balancer. How can I go about doing this? Since I am only sending json responses to my application, do I really need to buy a certificate from a CA or can I create my own? (since browsers will not be interacting with my servers. My servers are only designed to send json responses to my iOS application).

• How can I slightly delay the pop up of the task bar?

  Windows XP SP3 Many times as I head to the bottom of my desktop, I will slightly overshoot the target at the bottom and the task bar will pop up, hiding the target. I then have to move the cursor out of it so it retreats and then again try to access the target. Is there a way to add an interval, say, 1 second, to the task bar popping up so I can adjust to the target before the task bar covers it? EDIT: as per my answer below, "What I ended up doing is just docking it on the LH side of the screen. There is no change in response but I don't go to that location so often so it's much better.".

• Load is 0, yet site crawls (sometimes). What gives?

  I have a ~1.5-2mil page views per day site running on 2 servers. One for mysql, other for everything else. Mysql box has a load of 3, frontend is usually 0.0-0.1. Both are dual quad core with 8GB ram running SAS drives in raid5. CPU is idle for majority of the time, iowait is non-existent. Im running nginx, memcache, and site is built on php. Half the time everything runs perfect, while at other times it lags something severe, when it takes 10-15 seconds for a page to load. Page execution time is always super low, but it seems to hang, waiting for something before it actually loads the page. Whats even more weird is that it only happens to 1 file on the site (but its the one thats most commonly accessed, that actually loads the content on the site). Other pages are super fast at all times, even when it takes 15 seconds to load actual content. I have nginx_stats plugin installed, and if I monitor it, the lag spikes happen when the write column starts going above 100, and it frequently does... all the way to 500-1000. It does so at totally random times... not when traffic is heavy... it can do this in the middle of the night, and work perfectly at 5pm when traffic is at its highest. Any ideas?

• Weird vps server issue

  I have an unmanaged linux vps Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot). I have LNMP installed. Also php-fpm php-apc, varnish, memcache. I have (or rather had) several live sites on it. under normal load the server uses ~700 mb memory. But since last night its using only 20mb~ memory and a lot of the services seems to be down (according to htop) I only see nginx working and mysql starts up and goes does every few minutes on a loop. • Cannot work for 2nd iteration because of writing delay.

  My code's IF-THEN does not work for 2nd iteration. This is due to, the jar processing take some time to write it result inside the output.txt. Since the writing is a bit late, my code's 2nd iteration will always read the previous written value inside the output.txt in order to pass it to the IF-THEN. For example, in 1st iteration: output.txt -- 0.9888 twrite.txt -- msg: ok 2nd iteration: output.txt -- 0.5555 twrite.txt -- msg: ok //the IF-THEN still gives this result which is based on previous iteration. it should be msg: not ok . since it is < 0.7 I need help, how to solve this 'delay' problem? • Why load increase ,ssd iops increase but cpu iowait decrease?

  There is a strange thing on my server which has a mysql running on it. The QPS is more than 4000 but TPS is less than 20. The server load is more than 80 and cpu usr is more than 86% but iowait is less than 8%. The disk iops is more than 16000 and util of disk is more than 99%. When the QPS decreases, the load decreases, the cpu iowait increases.   I am getting the following error message when compiling or attempting to run my application on Windows 7 64 bit. I've scoured the internet and many people have the same error message however none of the solutions address my problem or situation. Using VS 2010. Error 38 Could not load file or assembly 'file:///D:/Projects/Windows Projects/Weld/Components/FileAttachments/FileAttachments/FileAttachments/bin/x86/Debug/FileAttaching.dll' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. Line 1212, position 5. D:\Projects\Windows Projects\Weld\Weld\Weld.UI\frmMain.resx 1212 5 Weld.UI Ok, so I have 2 projects a UI project and a FileAttachment project. UI project has a reference to FileAttachment project. When I compile UI project in "Any CPU" mode everything works fine and it runs. I assume 'Any CPU' will run in 64bit mode when I compile as that is the platform I am using. I want to run/compile as x86 so I try to do that, so I change configuration for all projects to x86 and verify that these configurations are compiling to x86. I compile and get the error as stated above. I find it odd that it compiles and works fine in 64bit but not 32bit. However when compiled and deployed to users as 'Any CPU', if these users have x86 it still works for them no problem. I just can't compile or run as x86 on my PC. Again, I can compile as Any CPU and deploy to a 32bit PC no problem. Neither project are referencing any 64bit only dlls. Both projects are verified to be targetting 32bit dll's and .NET Framework assemblies. I need to compile and run this locally under 32bit mode. I need JIT edit/continue among other things. Here is the line of code in the resx file that is causing the problem: </data> <data name="Appearance17.Image" type="System.Drawing.Bitmap, System.Drawing" mimetype="application/x-microsoft.net.object.bytearray.base64"> <value> The resx file is verified to be generated for .NET 2.0 amnd is only referencing .NET 2.0 assemblies and not .NET 4.0 versions. • Sendmail Failing to Forward Locally Addressed Mail to Exchange Server

  I've recently gained employment as a web developer with a small company. What they neglected to tell me upon hire was that I would be administrating the server along with my other daily duties. Now, truth be told, I'm not clueless when it comes to these things, but this is my first rodeo working with a rack server/console.. However, I'm confident that I will be able to work through any solutions you provide. Short Description: When a customer places an order via our (Magento CE 1.8.1.0) website, a copy of said order is supposed to be BCC'd to our sales manager. I say supposed because this was a working feature before the old administrator left. Long Description: Shortly after I started, we had a server crash which required a server restart. After restart, we noticed a few features on our site weren't working, but all those have been cleaned up except this one. I had to create an account on our server for root access. When a customer places an order, our sites software (Magento CE 1.8.1.0) is configured to BCC the customers order email to our sales manager. We use a Microsoft Exchange 2007 Server for our mail, which is hosted on a different machine (in-house) that I don't have access to ATM, but I'm sure I could if needed. As far as I can tell, all other external emails work.. Only INTERNAL email addresses fail to deliver. I know this because I've also tested my own internal address via our website. I set up an account with an internal email, made a test order, and never received the email. I changed my email for the account to an external GMail account, and received emails as expected. Let's dive into the logs and config's. For privacy/security reasons, names have been changed to the following: domain.com = Our Top Level Domain. email.local = Our Exchange Server. example.com = ANY other TLD. OLDadmin = Our previous Server Administrator. NEWadmin = Me. SALES@ = Our Sales Manager. Customer# = A Customer. • How to eager load sibling data using LINQ to SQL?

  The goal is to issue the fewest queries to SQL Server using LINQ to SQL without using anonymous types. The return type for the method will need to be IList<Child1>. The relationships are as follows: Parent Child1 Child2 Grandchild1 Parent Child1 is a one-to-many relationship Child1 Grandchild1 is a one-to-n relationship (where n is zero to infinity) Parent Child2 is a one-to-n relationship (where n is zero to infinity) I am able to eager load the Parent, Child1 and Grandchild1 data resulting in one query to SQL Server. This query with load options eager loads all of the data, except the sibling data (Child2): DataLoadOptions loadOptions = new DataLoadOptions(); loadOptions.LoadWith<Child1>(o => o.GrandChild1List); loadOptions.LoadWith<Child1>(o => o.Parent); dataContext.LoadOptions = loadOptions; IQueryable<Child1> children = from child in dataContext.Child1 select child; I need to load the sibling data as well. One approach I have tried is splitting the query into two LINQ to SQL queries and merging the result sets together (not pretty), however upon accessing the sibling data it is lazy loaded anyway. The reason for returning the IList<Child1> is to hydrate business objects. My thoughts are I am either: Approaching this problem the wrong way. Have the option of calling a stored procedure? • How can I load a file into a DataBag from within a Yahoo PigLatin UDF?

  I have a Pig program where I am trying to compute the minimum center between two bags. In order for it to work, I found I need to COGROUP the bags into a single dataset. The entire operation takes a long time. I want to either open one of the bags from disk within the UDF, or to be able to pass another relation into the UDF without needing to COGROUP...... In order to do this, I do a cross and then a COGROUP by PatentNumber in order to get the set PatentNumber, {wordcounts}, {kcenters}. If I could figure a way to pass a relation or open up the centers from within the UDF, then I could just GROUP wordcounts by PatentNumber and run myudfs.kmeans(wordcount) which is hopefully much faster without the CROSS/COGROUP. This is an expensive operation. Currently this takes about 20 minutes and appears to tack the CPU/RAM. I was thinking it might be more efficient without the CROSS. I'm not sure it will be faster, so I'd like to experiment. Anyway it looks like calling the Loading functions from within Pig needs a PigContext object which I don't get from an evalfunc. And to use the hadoop file system, I need some initial objects as well, which I don't see how to get. So my question is how can I open a file from the hadoop file system from within a PIG UDF? I also run the UDF via main for debugging. So I need to load from the normal filesystem when in debug mode. Another better idea would be if there was a way to pass a relation into a UDF without needing to CROSS/COGROUP. This would be ideal, particularly if the relation resides in memory.. ie being able to do myudfs.kmeans(wordcounts, kcenters) without needing the CROSS/COGROUP with kcenters... But the basic idea is to trade IO for RAM/CPU cycles. Anyway any help will be much appreciated, the PIG UDFs aren't super well documented beyond the most simple ones, even in the UDF manual.
