• Priority of an application

  Hello, I asked a question about the priority in Windows XP here. I got one answer and it apparently does not work. The question is: is the priority shown in the Task-Manager always the real priority? Or can there be a difference? Edit: With the installation of the service pack 3 of WinXP, it shows the expected priority in the task manager.

• Netgear WG311 v2 not identified on Windows 7

  I have a Netgear WG311 v2 wireless card. It was working fine on vista. Now I have installed Windows 7 and the device is not identified. Device Manager shows it as an Ethernet card. When I update the driver using the list provided with the Windows distribution. It shows it under Wireless devices in Device Manager but it says device cannot start code 10. Any idea on how to install it.

• Stop squid caching 302 and 307 with deny_info

  TLDR: 302, 307 and Error pages are being cached. Need to force a refresh of the content. Long version: I've setup a very minimal squid instance running on a gateway which shouldn't not cache ANYTHING but needs to be solely used as a domain based web filter. I'm using another application which redirects un-authenticated users to the proxy which then uses the deny_info option redirects any non-whitelisted request to the login page. After the user has authenticated the firewall rule gets placed so they no longer get sent to the proxy. The problem is that when a user hits a website (xkcd.com) they are unauthenticated so they get redirected via the firewall: iptables -A unknown-user -t nat -p tcp --dport 80 -j REDIRECT --to-port 39135 to the proxy at this point squid redirects the user to the login page using a 302 (i've also tried 307, and i've also make sure the headers are set to no-cache and/or no-store for Cache-Control and Pragma). Then when the user logs into the system they get firewall rule which no longer directs them to the squid proxy. But if they go to xkcd.com again they will have the original redirection page cached and will once again get the login page. Any idea how to force these redirects to NOT be cached by the browser? Perhaps this is a problem w/ the browsers and not squid, but not sure how to get around it. After days and days trying to figure it out, only through a random stumble I found client_persistent_connections off server_persistent_connections off This did the trick. So it wasn't so much cache as it was a single persistent connection messing things up. W000T!

  I use the minimal "fast lightweight window manager" (fwlm) which doesn't have a system tray. I need a simple program to manage my WIFI and virtual private netwok connection --- and found the NetworkManager. The problem is that the NetworkManager is a system-tray icon: I cannot see it or click on it in my fwlm windows manager. Hence, I ask: Is there any way to start the NetworkManager directly without using the system tray?

  After uninstalling Symantec Enpoint Protection (manually) one computer (Windows XP) has an inoperative NIC; it shows up in device manager as conflicted. I tried doing a windows repair from CD, which did not improve the situation. When I went to reinstall the drivers, driver installation failed with: Cannot install this hardware The system cannot find the file specified I've deleted the NIC in device manager without improvement.

  I need the same value as shown in Task Manager under the name "Cached". I tried "Memory/Cache Bytes", but it only shows 50 MBytes, while task manager shows 738 MBytes cached. And it doesn't grow up, when I copy files. So this counter is something different. Any ideas?

  I am using the Connection Manager Administration Kit (CMAK) to create vpn connections for my users, if it is possible how do I create a custom action that launches an executable that runs synchronously? In the help file it says Only DLLs run synchronously, meaning that Connection Manager starts the action and then waits for the function to return before continuing Is there any way around this?   Just trying to understand why I'm seeing what I'm seeing on this system. Pagefile performance counters are telling me i'm @ about 1.5% used with my page file, settings for the file are 2GB-4GB, but task manager was showing 13GB usage: Oddly enough, it just sunk down: This machine has IBM DB2 9.5 workgroup edition running on it. Thoughts??? Actually, just learned the developer had just stopped DB2, hence the huge drop, just not understand the difference in the PF usage in task manager vs perf counters?

• Windows 8 black screen with mouse pointer after login

  I restarted my system today and after logging in, i could see see nothing but a black screen with mouse pointer. I can start task manager via alt+ctrl+del, Task manager and msconfig show fine but when i try to run 'explorer' nothing happens. In safe mode everything seems fine. I do not have any system restore points and repair options from the DVD show "this option is not available for the selected OS" I've also updated my graphic drivers. Didn't help

  I have a group of users on my server, "Developers", and I would like an environment variable to be set for them whenever they login. More specifically, when anyone in this group logs in, I would like the equivalent of: setenv ANDROID_SDK_HOME /Developers/Android/User to be set at login. Then I created some VMs with Virt-Manager and assigned LVM-Volumes to the VMs. Now the VMs do not boot. Virt-Manager shows a CPU-Usage of 100% for this Guest and the VNC-Connection states Booting from Hard Disk The VM-specific logfiles do not show any abnormality only syslog shows a warning warning : qemudParsePCIDeviceStrs:1422 : Unexpected exit status '1', qemu probably failed What can I do to find the error?

• Fix static ip address problems in Ubuntu 10.04

  I used Network Manager in Ubuntu 10.04 to set a static ip address and assigned one that was already in use. Now my computer will not boot (nfs crashes). I booted from a live cd to change the configuration on the file system in /etc/network/interfaces but the file looks to be the default. Where does the network manager (the gui from system- preferences) store it's configuration so I can overwrite it and enter the correct ip addresss and have a happy working computer again. thanks!!

  With Adobe Framemaker XI, We could use Adobe Application Manager Enterprise Edition v3.1 to embed the serial number and pre-validate the sign-in option. An MSI was generated, and then an automatic installation could be performed, for enterprise deployments for example. It seems Adobe Application manager v3.1 is not working with Adobe Framemaker 12.
