• How do I communicate with an IronPython component in a C#/XNA game?

  My XNA game is component-oriented, and has various components for position, physics representation, rendering, etc, all of which extend a base Component class. The player and enemies also have controllers which are currently defined in C#. I'd like to turn them into Python scripts, but I'm not sure how to interact with those scripts. The examples in Embedding IronPython in a C# Application suggest I'd have to create a wrapper class (e.g. a Script component) which compiles a Python script, and call the Update methods of the component in the script Is this the most effective way of working with a Python object? I feel that I'm missing something in my research - there must be a way to load up a script, instantiate a Python object and then work directly with it from within C#. Or is the wrapper required?

• Online Code Editor [closed]

  The major online IDEs are hosted on the service provider's server. Examples are Kodingen, Cloud9, ShiftEdit. Hence they would be unavailable if the external server was down for some reason, and I prefer to do my computing on my own computer anyway. Does anyone know of an online IDE or editor (preferably just an editor - a simple implementation of the Ace or CodeMirror JS editors) which can be downloaded and run on localhost (on a local LAMP server)? I've found two so far - Eclipse Orion and Wiode, but I don't like either of them very much, and I'm looking for alternatives. Also suitable are browser extensions which run natively on the browser (offline) without going to some external site. An example would be SourceKit for Chrom(e/ium).

  I need to find an active Java mailing list, I have looked onto the GNU Java mailing list, to my surprise there had been not too much activity this month, it also focused on any GNU related Java - I'd really help me progress my Java ability, if I had an active, likeminded Java mailing list. Questions' that are not suited to Stackoverflow, or provide little benefit to any user that see's the question: discussing a new API change; best practices; open source discussion; trivia type questions on Java ArrayList boxining-unboxing; Community atmosphere. I also read Jon Skeets blog post about his previous Java/C# mailing lists examples - I did not catch any names, though I did they would be of benefit to me, if I had access to any of them.

• How to make Firefox windows style less space consuming?

  Firefox takes up so much space on small screens, so I'm searching for solutions that make firefox' interface less space consuming on ubuntu 12.04 with gnome3. Good examples are the chromium-style, but chromium is kind of slow in gnome3. Chromium does it, firefox on osx does it. Is this also possible on ubuntu via a custom modification or something? • Which one scales better asp or php?

  Let's say the website is doing fine(forums,pictures,ajax). And it needs scaling up/scaling out. I feel more comfortable with php but I have worked with asp.net as well. Would you say asp.net is much more powerful, more robust and thus easier to scale out? What would be the pros and cons of converting the website to asp.net in regards to scalability and performance versus keeping the website written in PHP? Examples of personal experience in making such a conversion would be a plus. Thank you.

• Framework licensing question [closed]

  I have a framework I have been developing but find myself being unable to work on it over the next year. I would like to make it open source in the interim to get others to use it and improve how it works. I would like to consider a licensing system that allows for multiple instances of the software for singular users (ie, a newspaper/magazine or zine hosting the code on their own). I would like to limit it from becoming the basis of a larger hosting service right now because it is intended to be part of a much larger hosting ecosystem which allows for create and share their work. Right now there is no license associated with it, which is why I am not posting a link here. Any help or suggestion on how to handle licensing this code for contributions and use would be appreciated, and if anyone would like to see examples or the github I would be happy to send it.

I'm curious to know what on-site factors affect CPC. That is to say, what I can do, legally (in white-hat compliance) to increase my CPC?   i am working on an embedded system of a sort, and in some free time i would like to test its drawing capabilities. System in question is ARM Cortex M3 microcontroller attached to EasyMX Stellaris board. And i have a small 320x240 TFT screen :) Now, i have some free time each day and i want to create rotating cube. Micro C PRO for ARM doesnt have 3d drawing capabilities, which means it must be done in software. From the book Introduction to 3D Game Programming with DirectX 10 i know matrix algebra for transformations but that is cool when you have DirectX to set camera right. I gues i could make 2d object to rotate, but how would i go with 3d one? Any ideas and examples are welcome. Although i would prefer advices. I'd like to understand this.

  This is my application. It is created with quickly. I would like to package it for Ubuntu now. I tried to package it with uickly, but that failed. At first, I was trying to install it using setup.py. But it is only copied in python lib dir, no icon, no desktop file installed. Then I tried to follow this guide, but I ended up with package without icon and it was of bad quality, but most important of all, it does not use setup.py, and it was pretty complicated. I would like to automate packaging process Can someone point me in the right direction, some examples of existing apps that have automated packaging etc? Thanks in advance.

• What does "GPL with classpath exception" mean in practice?

  Oracle seems to license all their Java-related open source code under the GPL with a classpath exception. From what I understand, this seems to allow to combine these libraries with your own code into products that do not have to be covered by the GPL. How does this work? What are examples of how I can and cannot use these classes? Why was this new license used as opposed to the LGPL, which seems to allow for pretty much the same things, but is better established and understood? What are the differences to the LGPL?

I'm looking for a complete/comprehensive list of these types of stumbling blocks, in rough estimated order of difficulty to learn, with the goal of making sure that an educational program for programmers is structured to properly guide students through them Is this information available somewhere?   In comparison with an open source license and requesting donations, is a free-for-open-source-projects (or free for non-commercial developers) closed source and otherwise commercial project likely to get more license fees? Or just to alienate potential users? Assume the project has value to programmers - I'm looking for generalizations here, though specific examples comparing existing projects will be very interesting. What I have in mind involves code generating programming utilities. And one issue I can think of, either way, is a near total inability to enforce any license restrictions. After all, I can't go around the internet demanding that everyone show me their source code just in case!
