  • Telerik OpenAccess ORM and the XML Metadata Source

    We all know that Telerik OpenAccess ORM has a completely new face with the Q1 2010 release so it is about time to start blogging about some of the features and improvements that the new Visual Designer brought along.  Today I will talk about one of the most notable changes in the new version of OpenAccess ORM and that is the XML only mapping. You all know that so far with the previous versions of the product the mapping information was defined by a mix of XML configuration files and CLR attributes.   • How to fix Windows 7 when System Recovery Options hangs?

    The battery power ran out on my HP G60 laptop and it shut down. Even after recharging, Windows 7 will now not start up. After any attempted startup, it bluescreens and takes me to the "Startup Repair (recommended)" / "Start Windows Normally" console screen. "Startup Repair (recommended)" appears to be the right choice, but when I choose it, I get taken to a screen which appears to be System Recovery Options (it's the same wallpaper as the screenshots here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/668-system-recovery-options.html). However, I just get a cursor with nothing else; no "System Recovery Options" window ever pops up. (A black console screen does pop up for a split-second but too fast to be able to read the text.) The empty screen with cursor hangs indefinitely. System Recovery Options normally runs off of a partition on the laptop hard drive. When I got the laptop, I also created a System Repair Disc (in fact I have more than one) and when I try use any of them; they all result in the same wallpaper and empty screen with lone cursor. Ctrl-Alt-Del does nothing. The computer did not come with a Windows 7 installation disc, so there's no obvious way to reinstall Windows 7. Safe mode does not work; startup fails and I just get sent back to the "Startup Repair (recommended)"/"Start Windows Normally" console screen. "Start in last good state" does not work either, same result as above. Running a memory & hard disk check found no errors. Do I have any options at all? "System Recovery Options" seems to be what I want, but the screen that is supposed to take me to them just hangs.

  • How can I tell System Restore in WIndows 7 recovery console to use my recovered backup drive's restore point data?

    My Windows 7 desktop PC failed to boot. It would get to a grayish screen with a mouse and would only respond to the power button. After much examination I found that the problem was not a failed drive as running CHKDSK from the Recovery Console on my main drives passed without any errors. I had been installing various Java version in the days before the failure so I decided to use a restore point to roll backwards. I have an external SATA drive controller with two 2 TB drives mirrored using the Windows mirroring function. My system has been backing up to this drive regularly. The problem is I accidently broke the mirror when testing to see if this drive system might have been causing my boot issue. Connecting it to another machine showed two dynamic drives that were invalid. In the end I reformatted one as an NTFS basic disc and used recovery software on the other to copy all of the files to the reformatted drive. I had to copy the restore points into the new drive's System Volume Information folder by granting rights to that user. I moved the drive back to the original machine and rebooted. I can see my new drive, it even uses the same drive letter as it did in normal mode. Running System Restore it lists a new Automatic Restore point created while sitting at the RC along with all of my backups. Selecting the backup I want (or any other) I get a dialog. The backup drive could not be found. System Restore is looking for restore points on your backup. Make sure the backup drive is on and connected to this computer and then click OK. What do I need to do to allow system restore to see the restore points?

I want to use L2E since it s very convenient to my company's apps, I created a demo project, the demo does run on every machine but when I, lets say, press a button that has some code that uses the entity I get this error: specified store provider cannot be found in the configuration, or is not valid. note that I get this error only on machines that does not have VS2008 installed, on these machines (the ones with VS2008) the demo works well. any advice is appreciated. I am using MySql server with Mysql Conector 6.3 and the model is created with ADO.Net entitiy model.   • Quick way to get an NSDictionary from an XML NSData representation?

    I've loaded an XML file as NSData into memory and parse over the elements using NSXMLParser. Although it works, it's a very ugly and hard to maintain code since there are about 150 different elements to parse. I know there are nice third-party solutions, but I want to keep it with the iPhone SDK for purpose of practice and fun. So I thought: Why not convert that XML file into an NSDictionary? Having this, I could use fast enumeration to go over the elements. Or is it just the same amount of ugly code needed to parse and process an XML right away with NSXMLParser? Would I build up an NSDictionary for every found node in the XML and create a huge one, containing the whole structure and data? Or is there an even simpler way?

  • Using Android SAXParser, one my my XML Elements is mysteriously breaking in half.

    And its not '&' Im using the SAXParser object do parse the actual XML. This is normally done by passing a URL to the XMLReader.Parse method. Because my XML is coming from a POST request to a webservice, I am saving that result as a String and then employing StringReader / InputSource to feed this string back to the XMLReader.Parse method. However, something strange is happening at the 2001st character of the XMLstring. The 'characters' method of the document handler is being called TWICE in between the startElement and endElement methods, effectively breaking my string (in this case a project title) into two pieces. Because I am instantiating objects in my characters method, I am getting two objects instead of one. This line, about 2000 chars into the string fires 'characters' two times, breaking between "Lower" and "Level" <title>SUMC-BOOKSTORE, LOWER LEVEL RENOVATIONS</title> When I bypass the StringReader / InputSource workaround and feed a flat XML file to XMLReader.Parse, it works absolutely fine. Something about StringReader and or InputSource is somehow screwing this up. Here is my method that takes and XML string and parses is through the SAXParser. public void parseXML(String XMLstring) { try { SAXParserFactory spf = SAXParserFactory.newInstance(); SAXParser sp = spf.newSAXParser(); XMLReader xr = sp.getXMLReader(); xr.setContentHandler(this); // Something is happening in the StringReader or InputSource // That cuts the XML element in half at the 2001 character mark. StringReader sr = new StringReader(XMLstring); InputSource is = new InputSource(sr); xr.parse(is); } catch (IOException e) { Log.e("CMS1", e.toString()); } catch (SAXException e) { Log.e("CMS2", e.toString()); } catch (ParserConfigurationException e) { Log.e("CMS3", e.toString()); } } I would greatly appreciate any ideas on how to not have 'characters' firing off twice when I get to this point in the XML String.   • Configuring Team System Code Analysis via a FxCop rules file

    Is there anyway to configure the code analysis rules in Visual Studio Team System to match those in an FxCop configuration file and keep them in sync automatically? Not all the developers on the team have TS so keeping the rules we are currently running in an FxCop file is required so everyone can run the same set, but it would nice for those with to be able to run them in the IDE. We're introducing static analysis to an existing project so turning on everything now isn't a useful option. (We are not using Foundation Server for source control, if that makes any difference.)

    We have a JAVA application that pulls the data from SAP, parses it and renders to the users. The data is pulled using JCO connector. Recently we were thrown an exception: org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Character reference "&#00" is an invalid XML character. So, we are planning to write a new level of indirection where ALL special/illegal characters are replaced BEFORE parsing the XML. My questions here are : 1. Is there any existing(open source) utility that does this job of replacing illegal characters in XML? 2. Or if I had to write such utility, how should i handle them? 3. (whatever the term is) sounds like i'm asking for someone to do it for me, which I don't want, but I don't know what to search for ~ it doesn't look like a regular xml structure to me. thanks!

    Hi guys, I've been reading up on stackoverflow about creating voting systems in PHP that minimize abuse/multiple voting from the same user, but I haven't come across the answer to my question. I've got an application where users don't need to register to vote or "like" an entry. Obviously, I want to minimize abuse and I don't want to limit votes per IP address because some organisations (mine included) use shared IP addresses. I've never used sessions in a non-authenticated system before, but since this application is centered around entry votes I was wondering if this approach would work and whether there were any disadvantages such as performance implications, and whether it's even possible to use sessions in this way: start a session when the website is loaded allow one vote per item per session If this is a bad idea, my alternative options would be to allow a reasonable number of votes per IP address (say 25), or put a time limit between votes from the same IP address. What do you guys recommend?

  • How to include a PHP generated XML file into flash vars, while ALSO passing through the current php functions into it?

    Hello Given situation: In webpage.php the flashscript is calling a flash script with a flashvar: the playlist file which is a PHP generated XML file: playlist.php, it does that well so long as there are no extra functions in there. Now, in that XML-format playlistfile there needs to be a special function, besides the usual echo("");, namely the very special echo __(""); function that is already declared in webpage.php which needs to do something with the paragraphs residing within that xml file. However, currently the retrieved file misses the function echo __();and says "no such function declared in that xml-format [playlist.php] file". The php functions that are currently included at the very top of webpage.php somehow do not pass-through-the necessary functions into the playlist file for it to recognise how to handle it, in order for that playlist to get those necessary functions working. Apparently these are not passed through automatically/properly when residing in the flashvars?? Cause the echo __(""); works fine when called within webpage.php or via a normal php include(""); if those functions are in a different php file. But not working from the playlist.php file. Any ideas why/what is going on here? I appreciate your clues for this prob +1. Thanks very much.     I'm using LINQ together with XDocument to read a XML File. This is the code: XDocument xml = XDocument.Load(filename); var q = from b in xml.Descendants("product") select new { name = b.Element("name").Value, price = b.Element("price").Value, extra = b.Element("extra1").Value, deeplink = b.Element("deepLink").Value }; Now the problem is, the extra1 field is not always present. There are items in the XML file without that node. If that happens it's crashing with a NullReferenceException. Is there any possibility to include a "check if null" so I can prevent it from crashing?

    Below is the xml content generated by TFPT for the WIQL issued. When I try to import this XML into Excel 2007 XML source pane shows only "Id", "RefName" and "Value" as fields to be mapped. Whereas I would like to display System.Id, System.State, Microsoft.VSTS.Common.ResolvedDate, Microsoft.VSTS.Common.StateChangeDate as column headings and corresponding value as rows.   • C# Loading a xml file from the current directory?

    Hi all, I use the line below in my C# winform app, this works great but occasionally if the program is being run from the command line I get an error that the config.xml file cannot be found. This is because the 'working directory' is different (I think), I need to say "load config.xml from current directory", how would I do this? docXML.Load("config.xml"); Thanks Jonathan
