  • Expert system for writing programs?

    I am brainstorming an idea of developing a high level software to manipulate matrix algebra equations, tensor manipulations to be exact, to produce optimized C++ code using several criteria such as sizes of dimensions, available memory on the system, etc. Something which is similar in spirit to tensor contraction engine, TCE, but specifically oriented towards producing optimized rather than general code. The end result desired is software which is expert in producing parallel program in my domain. Does this sort of development fall on the category of expert systems? What other projects out there work in the same area of producing code given the constraints?

    hi all. when i use some code like this: System.Net.WebClient objClient = new WebClient(); string url = "http://google.com"; objClient.DownloadString(url); it takes some seconds to connection stablished and downloading starts... i reinstall my windows yesterday. before yesterday i havent this problem. some times when i reinstall my windows this problem occures. does anyboddy know why this problem occures?? thanks all and sorry for my bad english....

    Now that many people seem to be moving towards JSON for web communication I am wondering about why XML should continue to be used. I appreciate that XML has many years on JSON, during which time it has been widely adopted. However, the fact that it is so well-adopted appears to be the one decisive reason why it should continue to be used. Is there a good reason why XML should not gradually be phased out in favour of JSON?

  • Collectable<T> serialization, Root Namespaces on T in .xml files.

    I have a Repository Class with the following method... public T Single<T>(Predicate<T> expression) { using (var list = (Models.Collectable<T>)System.Xml.Serializer.Deserialize(typeof(Models.Collectable<T>), FileName)) { return list.Find(expression); } } Where Collectable is defined.. [Serializable] public class Collectable<T> : List<T>, IDisposable { public Collectable() { } public void Dispose() { } } And an Item that uses it is defined.. [Serializable] [System.Xml.Serialization.XmlRoot("Titles")] public partial class Titles : Collectable<Title> { } The problem is when I call the method, it expects "Collectable" to be the XmlRoot, but the XmlRoot is "Titles" (all of object Title). I have several classes that are collected in .xml files like this, but it seems pointless to rewrite the basic methods for loading each up when the generic accessors do it - but how can I enforce the proper root name for each file without hard coding methods for each one? The [System.Xml.Serialization.XmlRoot] seems to be ignored.

    I am using a xsd schema file; there I specified an ordered list. When parsing an XML node of the kind... <myOrderedList> "element_1" "element_2" "element_3" </myOrderedList> (which is valid XML syntax) ...all XML parsers I know parse this as a single node element. Is there a way to get the XML parser parse this list for me (return it as a list or an array or whatever) or do I always have to parse it myself?

  • How to use linux csplit to chop up massive XML file?

    Hi everyone, I have a gigantic (4GB) XML file that I am currently breaking into chunks with linux "split" function (every 25,000 lines - not by bytes). This usually works great (I end up with about 50 files), except some of the data descriptions have line breaks, and so frequently the chunk files do not have the proper closing tags - and my parser chokes halfway through processing. Example file: (note: normally each "listing" xml node is supposed to be on its own line) <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <listings> <listing><date>2009-09-22</date><desc>This is a description WITHOUT line breaks and works fine with split</desc><more_tags>stuff</more_tags></listing> <listing><date>2009-09-22</date><desc>This is a really annoying description field WITH line breaks that screw the split function</desc><more_tags>stuff</more_tags></listing> </listings> Then sometimes my split ends up like <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <listings> <listing><date>2009-09-22</date><desc>This is a description WITHOUT line breaks and works fine with split</desc><more_tags>stuff</more_tags></listing> <listing><date>2009-09-22</date><desc>This is a really annoying description field WITH line breaks ... Instead of doing that, is it possible to maintain an attribute in the xml file, "say active=true". Based on which the Zend_Config_Xml will know which section of the xml file settings to read? Thanks

    I have a PHP script that runs a .bat file on my windows machine using $result = system("cmd /C nameOfBatchFile.bat"); This sets some environmental variables and is used to call Amazon EC2 API from the command line. How do I do the same from a Linux server? I have renamed my .bat file to a shell (.sh) and changed the script to use 'export' when setting env vars. I have tested by running the code from a putty terminal and it does what it should. So I know the commands in the script are good. How do I run this from PHP? I have tried running the same command as above with the new filename and I don't get any errors, or file not found etc but it doesn't appear to work. Where do I start trying to solve this?

The dal calls stored procedures to read and encapsulate the data from the schema into an xml message, wrap it up to a message and enqueue it on an internal queue for processing. I would to secure the channel from the database reads to the dequeue action. What would be the best way to do it.   • Quick way to get an NSDictionary from an XML NSData representation?

    I've loaded an XML file as NSData into memory and parse over the elements using NSXMLParser. Although it works, it's a very ugly and hard to maintain code since there are about 150 different elements to parse. I know there are nice third-party solutions, but I want to keep it with the iPhone SDK for purpose of practice and fun. So I thought: Why not convert that XML file into an NSDictionary? Having this, I could use fast enumeration to go over the elements. Or is it just the same amount of ugly code needed to parse and process an XML right away with NSXMLParser? Would I build up an NSDictionary for every found node in the XML and create a huge one, containing the whole structure and data? Or is there an even simpler way?

  • iPhone app getting XML then refreshing it at intervals...

    I have an app which gets some data from the web via an XML document. I have this working fine and have followed apples SeismicXML example (uses NSURLRequest etc). I am very new to this so I have to admit that I do not totally understand all the code that gets the XML - but it is working. My problem is that my app may be running for some time so I want to be able to refresh the XML every now and again and check to see if it is different. If it is different I need to update my contents. Basically this means my questions are.... Is there a standard way of doing this? I was thinking of creating a timer to call the function which parses the XML but I can't figure out which function to call. If anyone can give me any pointers or even better examples of this it would be fab. Thanks
