  How can I hide the New / Actions / Upload / Settings menus within a list or document library in SharePoint? Note that I need to be able to hide these menus for a particular list definition (template) and not just all lists or document libraries. One possible way that I know of is to register a , and set the ControlClass element to a control that inherits from WebControl. In the WebControl, I can override OnPreRender, which then does this: foreach (Control control in this.Parent.Controls) { if (control.ToString() == "Microsoft.SharePoint.WebControls.NewMenu") { control.Visible = false; } // etc } This is pretty hacky, and I was just wondering if there is a better way of doing it?

• What is your prefered way to return XML from an ActionMethod in Asp.net MVC?

  I am displaying charts that load the data asynchronously because the searches are the work to fetch the data is quite heavy. The data has to be return as XML to make the chart library happy. My ActionMethods return a ContentResult with the type set as text/xml. I build my Xml using Linq to XML and call ToString. This works fine but it's not ideal to test. I have another idea to achieve this which would be to return a view that builds my XML using the XSLT View engine. I am curious and I always try to do the things "the right way". So how are you guys handling such scenarios? Do you implement a different ViewEngine (like xslt) to build your XML or do you Build your XML inside your controller (Or the service that serves your controller)?

I have used var and then iterating over it got the result. But without that any other way by which I can do it? Using C# 3.0 Thanks

Isn't it possible to return string values? • How can I emulate forward on 404 in jersey?

  I have a picture on a given URL. The picture might need a referesh. I want to do the freshness-check at the time of the request. Therefore, I coded a jersey resource handling the request on the picture URL. It refreshes the picture on the filesystem if necessary. I do not want to re-code a caching mechansim, but rely on tomcat's implementation. Therefore, I would like to "forward" the request in the internal handler chain. I tried return new Viewable(sb.toString());, but a viewable is not a picture. What return type can I use? I could let the concrete picture reside on another URL and send a 307 (Temporary Redirect). • Samsung Galaxy Tab 1 layout problems

  I'm having trouble running my app on the Galaxy tab original 7". It appears to make everything 1.5 times bigger, i.e. if I specify 40dip for a textSize in my layout, it will display as 60 dip when I run it on the tablet. I tried messing around with the display metrics and changing the density and densityDpi to 1. (When I run a toString of the display metrics in the Galaxy tab 2, they are both 1, whereas the Galaxy tab 1 has values of 1.5) The app runs very well on every phone I've tested it on, and on the Galaxy tab 2, so I can't figure out what the problem is. I even tried creating a dummy app with just a textView with a size of 40dip, and it still converted it to 60. Any ideas? Thanks.

  It is supposed to be generally preferable to use a StringBuilder for String concatenation in Java. Is it always the case? What i mean is : Is the overhead of creating a StringBuilder object, calling the append() method and finally toString() smaller then concatenating existing Strings with + for 2 Strings already or is it only advisable for more Strings? If there is such a threshold, what does it depend on (the String length i suppose, but in which way)? And finally - would you trade the readability and conciseness of the + concatenation for the performance of the StringBuilder in smaller cases like 2, 3, 4 Strings?

At runtime it creates a ClassCastException. If I comment out that block of code then everthing works fine. What am I missing?

I want the user to click the print button and automatically the document prints.   Try the following in the Immediate window: object a1 = "a"; object a2 = "a"; a1==a2 // outputs false and you'll see that a1 == a2 outputs false. However, at runtime in either a window app or console, you'll get true: object t1 = "a"; object t2 = "a"; MessageBox.Show((t1 == t2).ToString()); // outputs true The runtime behavior is consistent with the definition for the == operator and strings. Does anybody know if this a bug in the Immediate window?

  Hi, I am using the Apache HTTPClient for Java and I'm facing a really strange issue. Sometimes when I try to get a dynamically generated page it returns its actual content, but other times (with another parameter) all I get is a short sequence of \t,\r and \n. How could I track what's going on on the different cases in order to find where is the bug? • Textbox is disabled after adding text dynamically in codebehind

  Can't quite work out what is happening but The background is that I am dynamically adding table rows in a web page and some of the cells hold controls such as dropdowns etc. One of the columns pulls a size into it. However the column I am having issues with is the next column which takes the text from teh previous dropdown and shows the appropriate price. On doing htis however the textbox which is being created appears to turn into a label as I cannot select or adjust the text that has been put in there. var gotPrice =(from a in getPrice.Sizes where a.Size1 == Size.SelectedValue select a).First(); TextBox Price = new TextBox(); Price.Width = 100; PriceField.Controls.Add(Price); PriceField.Text = gotPrice.RackRate.ToString(); I have tried then calling .Enabled but still the text box is not editable. any help appreciated.
