• Custom Control in ASP.NET C#

  Hello all, I created a simple custom control that only inherits from the Literal control, and doesn't have any extensions yet, code is empty. Namespace: CustomControls Class name: Literal : System.Web.UI.WebControls.Literal Next thing I do is registering this control in the aspx page as following: <%@ Register TagPrefix="web" Namespace="CustomControls" % (I read in few tutorials that this is one of the ways to register it, besides web.config etc.) After all, no intellisence for me, and worse- I get a parse error 'unknown server tag: web' when I try to run the page with the control in it. I used 'create new project' and not new website, in case this info is needed. What could be my problem? Thanks in advance.

  Hi, I use adobe Illustrator creative suite 3. Now there seems to be a problem. I can't save my Illustrations In the .pdf format, since this format seems to preserve the graphic quality this Is vitally Important to me.   I've got a script that is a notify_url from paypal that is supposed to update multiple tables in my database using the following code: //update first table $this-db-where('someid', $somid); $this-db-update('table', $data); ///update second table $this-db-where('somesecondid', $somesecondid) $this-db-update('anothertable', $data2); Then I get the following error: Unknown column 'somesecondid' in 'where clause' UPDATE anothertable SET avail = 0 WHERE someid = '13' AND somesecondid = '199' So codeigniter is combining those where clauses into a single query. Is there a way to unset the first one so it only has "UPDATE anothertable SET avail=0 WHERE somesecondid = 199" ? Thanks!

• MySQL 5 in MySQL 4 compatible mode for one database?

  In a recent project, I have to maintain some PHP code. I set up a development server and installed MySQL, Apache, PHP, ..etc. The program is terminated with an error: Unknown column _ _ _ in 'on clause' Cannot select .... Google shows that it's a change of syntax around JOINs, parentheses are needed. As you may imagine, fixing all that PHP SQL strings will be the last resort. _< Is is possible to config MySQL 5 to run at MySQL 4 compatible mode? Or even better, for only one database? Thanks! p.s. Since we are going to host the code on a new production server (MySQL 5 on a CentOS box), the chance to install MySQL 4 on the new server might be slim.

• Can I use part of MD5 hash for data identification?

  I use MD5 hash for identifying files with unknown origin. No attacker here, so I don't care that MD5 has been broken and one can intendedly generate collisions. My problem is I need to provide logging so that different problems are diagnosed easier. If I log every hash as a hex string that's too long, inconvenient and looks ugly, so I'd like to shorten the hash string. Now I know that just taking a small part of a GUID is a very bad idea - GUIDs are designed to be unique, but part of them are not. Is the same true for MD5 - can I take say first 4 bytes of MD5 and assume that I only get collision probability higher due to the reduced number of bytes compared to the original hash?

• XPath : finding an attribute node (and only one)

  What is the XPath to find only ONE node (whichever) having a certain attribute (actually I'm interested in the attribute, not the node). For example, in my XML, I have several tags having a lang attribute. I know all of them must have the same value. I just want to get any of them. Right now, I do this : //*[1][@lang]/@lang, but it seems not to work properly, for an unknown reason. My tries have led me to things ranging from concatenation of all the @lang values ('en en en en...') to nothing, with sometimes inbetween what I want but not on all XML. EDIT : Actually //@lang[1] can not work, because the function position() is called before the test on a lang attribute presence. So it always takes the very first element found in the XML. It worked best at the time because many many times, the lang attribute was on root element.

• Vim plugin Align fails to work. Can it be installed without vimball?

  I've happily installed the vim Align plugin on my home computer, but on the Red Hat servers at work, the installation doesn't work. The servers at work have a very old copy (2006) of vimball, which from Googling I know doesn't support more recent vimballs, including Align. I can't get the systems group (IT department) to upgrade vimball, so I thought perhaps I could simply copy the various files into ~/.vim/plugin by hand. I copied the 3 files from my home system AlignMapsPlugin.vim AlignPlugin.vim cecutil.vim, but when I attempt to use Align from within vim I get the following error message E117: Unknown function: Align#Align I know that it's seeing the plugin, because when I remove the plugin the error message is different (it says "Not an editor command Align"). Is there a workaround for this? I love "Align" and would sure like to use it at work as well as at home.

  I am trying to get Weblogic 9.2.3 to talk to a legacy RedBrick database and am having trouble. I have the redbrick.jar file from the software installation and have added to my APP_RUNTIME_CLASSPATH and my MANIFEST_CLASSPATH. This is my jConnect template line: <url>jdbc:rbw:protocol:${DB_LT_SERVER}:${DB_LT_PORT}/${DB_LT_NAME}</url> <driver-name>redbrick.jdbc.RBWDriver</driver-name> (Variables get replaced with good values during build.) When starting up I get this error: weblogic.common.ResourceException: Unknown Data Source jConnectLT weblogic.common.resourcepool.ResourceSystemException: Cannot load driver class: redbrick.jdbc.RBWDriver Do I have to do more to make Weblogic see the RedBrick database? • How to make a resolution independent camera preview on android?

  Hi all, I'm making an android 1.6 app that uses phone's camera. In order to do this app resolution independent, I need to set a compatible aspect ratio for previewing camera on a SurfaceLayout. In 1.6 sdk there is no way to get supported sizes for the camera preview. It is possible to use a 4:3 or 3:2 aspect ratio and get no errors whith that? On the other hand, I need a way to make a xml layout that represents this Surfacelayout in this (unknown) aspect ratio in every resolution. I assume that is not possible to change the SurfaceLayout size in runtime. Can I do it with "dp" units? The other way is making this layout programmatically? There are some apps like Vignette or android camera application with some tricks to make something like that, like black bars (vignette) or fixed buttons bar, but I don't know how to do it in any kind of resolution. Any ideas? Thanks!

  Trying to select a query in php/mysql to get "Upcoming Items" in a calendar. We store the dates in the DB as a unix time. Here's what my query looks like right now SELECT * FROM `calendar` WHERE (`eventDate` > '$yesterday') OR (FROM_UNIXTIME(eventDate, '%m') > '$current_month' AND `$yearly` = '1') ORDER BY `eventDate` LIMIT 4 This is giving me an error "Unknown column '' in 'where clause'". I'm sure it has to do with my use of parenthesis (which I've never used before in a query) and the FROM_UNIXTIME command. Can someone help me out and let me know how I've screwed this up? Thanks!

• Why is Rake not able to invoke multiple tasks consecutively?

  I have a Rake task which I have simplified below. I'm using Ruby 1.9 on Windows. Perhaps you would like to guess the outcome of calling the Rake task "list_all_levels" below? It should be: "Hello level 1" "Hello level 2" "Hello level 3" But for reasons unknown to me, it prints only "Hello level 1" and then stops. That is, it always invokes only the first task. If I change the first line to pass the arg "42", it would print "Hello level 42" and then stop. I'm wondering why does it not invoke the task 3 times and print all 3 lines? • curl issue with URL not connecting

  So I'm not a very good network person so I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction to figuring out what I am doing wrong. I am trying to use curl to post a SOAP message. I am running the following: curl -d "string of xml message" -H "Content-Type:text/xml; charset=utf-8" ":/" This results in a 'Connection refused' message. So I try pinging ip by itself...no problems. Then I think maybe I need http://:/ so I tried pinging http:// and I get: unknown host http:// yet if I ping the IP by itself I get no issues. Any thoughts on where to start debugging this issue?

  Suppose that I have a test server with a large group of test accounts. The test accounts have unknown passwords which are hard-coded into the application's reports and are stored encrypted in the mysql.users table. Is there any option or hack which can be used to make mysql accept any text as the "correct" password for an account? For example: Update mysql.user Set Password="*" where 1=1 Note: The above line wouldn't work because it would literally set the password to "*" and not the wildcard character. However, I am looking for a way to create a mysql account which would accept anything as a valid password.   Hello, SQL is not one of my strong suits. I have a SQL Server 2008 database. This database has a stored procedure that takes in eight int parameters. For the sake of keeping this question focused, I will use one of these parameters for reference: @isActive int Each of these int parameters will be -1, 0, or 1. -1 means "Unknown" or "Don't Care". Basically, I need to query a table such that if the int parameter is NOT -1, I need to consider it in my WHERE clause. Because there are eight int parameters, an IF-ELSE statement does not seem like a good idea. At the same time, I do not know how else to do this? Is there an elegant way in SQL to add a WHERE conditional if a parameter does NOT equal a value? Thank you!

  I've subclassed MKAnnotation so that i can assign objects to annotations and then assign this object to a view controller like so: - (void)mapView:(MKMapView *)mapView annotationView:(MKAnnotationView *)view calloutAccessoryControlTapped:(UIControl *)control { PlaceDetailView *detailView = [[PlaceDetailView alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewStyleGrouped]; detailView.place = [view.annotation place]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:detailView animated:YES]; [detailView release]; } This is working great but i'm having the following issues: If i try and access the place getter method like so view.annotation.place i recieve an error: Accessing unknown place getter method If i acces the place getter method like so [view.annotation place] i receive a warning: place not found in protocol From my understanding this is because the place object is not defined in the MKAnnotation protocol, although i'm aware of this i'm not sure how to tell the complier that place does exist and it's not calling it blind.
