• I have a mail server that hosts several client emails but 1 in particular is being blocked because of its SBRS score

  If I was hosting emails for 3 clients and my reverse DNS is mail.allclients.com and I am hosting for client2.com, client3.com etc. What would be the rDNS for client3.com? Would it reflect the rDNS of mail.allclients.com? If so, I do I prevent mails from client3.com from being blocked because the PTR does not match rDNS? Finally on your advice to have my email service publish an SPF record. Is this something I need to submit to the company I registered my mail.allclients.com to? So I for example registered with GoDaddy.com then I will need to submit a request to them to publish an SPF record on their DNS right? Thank you for your advice and kind assistance. Vince Saavedra

• Is it possible to use the MMM tool without virtual IP capability?

  We are on a host (Serverbeach) that does not support Virtual/floating IPs until you reserve at least a half-rack, which is just a little more than we are willing to spend per month right now. We do have 2 machines in one of their datacenters, and I am using these 2 machines right now in the Master-Master in Active-Passive Mode just like done by MMM -- http://mysql-mmm.org/. I have just set them up and I managing them manually, with manual switch on the Web frontend to tell it to connect to the correct (active) master. Is there any way to use MMM without virtual IPs? Any other comments on this setup?

• Virtual box - How to add disks and move var, opt and home to them?

  I created a CentOS 5.6 Guest OS Virtual Machine. I made the first disk 10GB, I am rapidly outgrowing it. It was suggested that I make disks for my /var, /opt and /home directories and move them so I can better manage the disks for backing up and what not. This sounds like a good idea. I know how to create the disks in Virtual Box. I have dug around Google and the internet in general and all my attempts at doing this have failed. Snapshots are awesome! I can get the drives fdisked, and I have had limited success mounting them to /mnt/var, /mnt/home and /mnt/opt, but even in single user mode ( init 1 ) I can't get the entire contents of the directories to move over, and then the machine won't reboot correctly. cd /var cp * -ax /mnt/var The /var directory in particular is not wanting to move everything to the new location. How do I format, mount and move the /var, /opt and /home to my new disks?

Do I need to connect through an SMTP server? Can I do that with sendmail? If I use sendmail's -f option and put my gmail account there it will work. Can (or should I) I use my IP address? echo -e "Subject: Foo\n\nBar\n" | sendmail -v -f [email protected] [email protected] I'm a bit lost on how all this comes together in sending mail from the command line.

  We are planning to place a HP MSA P2000 with two FC/iSCSI controllers in our network. We have two options to provide more storage to Virtual Machines (We are running Hyper-V): A) Add iSCSI targets to the Virtual Hosts and then create VHD that we would add to each guest server. B) Directly add iSCSI targets in each guest server. Just wondering if one of those options is better than the other, and which is the common practice in a virtualized environment.   I have a host, let's call it foo.com, on which I'm running Postfix on Debian. Postfix is currently configured to do these things: All mail with @foo.com as recipient is handled by this Postfix server. It forwards all such mail to my Gmail account. The firewall thus allows port 25. All mail with another domain as recipient is rejected. SPF records have been set up for the foo.com domain, saying that foo.com is the sole origin of all mail from @foo.com. Applications running on foo.com can connect to localhost:25 to deliver mail, with [email protected] as sender. However I recently noticed that some spammers are able to send spam to me while passing the SPF checks. Upon further inspection, it looks like they connect to my Postfix server and then say HELO bar.com MAIL FROM:<[email protected]> <---- this! RCPT TO:<[email protected]> DATA From: "Buy Viagra" <[email protected]> <--- and this! ... How do I prevent this? • GF 3.0.1 + Virtual Server: www.myhost.com:8080/projectname-war => www.myhost.com. How?

  I need to change www.myhost.com:8080/myproject-war to www.myhost.com. This is what I try. In admin console in Glassfish 3.0.1, I create a http-listener-3 with port 9090 and address 0.0.0.0 (I want to have port 80, but got access-denied or some sort). I then create a virtual server call scholar, with Id=scholar, Hosts=${com.sun.aas.hostName}, Network Listeners: http-listener-3, Default Web Module=project#project-war.war(it is the only option from the drop down list since I only deploy 1 app). Then under Applications, I set the virtual server of the application to be scholar. Save and restart. I try localhost:9090, and expecting that it will load my project like as if I type localhost:9090/project-war. But it does not. I already set the Default Web Module, to be the project, why doesnt it load the project by default?

But I was unable to find a solution on web. Any ideas how to fix it? Multiple gives me a ""upstream" directive is not allowed here error I am using the base nginx sample from the unicorn site. and doubling up the upstream area with differing terms. each is part of the http set. Any help would be amazing!

  I have HyperV on Windows 2008 Enterprise R2 installed with some Virtual Server running that I wanted to have ISA or NTOP to monitor traffic. I've added additional physical NIC to server and wanted to use this NIC as traffic monitor (I've enabled port mirroring on switch). I can see on physical machine that runs HyperV a lot of traffic coming to the NIC so port mirroring works fine. However in virtual machine even thou I've assigned that NIC to only this one and only server it sees 0 packets. In VWMare Workstation it worked without problem and I could see mirrored traffic on VM. Should this be possible or HyperV is crippled?

  The server allocated for our cross platform projects (both Mac & PC) source repository is running Win2008R2 Core. We're really happy with its stability and we aren't interested in moving over to non-core. We need to get either SVN or GIT installed on the aforementioned box in the shortest amount of steps. We know the advantages/disadvantages of both systems. That being said, we don't care which one we use, we're just are looking for the path of least resistance on setting up a repository on a machine running R2 core.

• why is drop box syncing so freakishly slowly in my linux virtual machine?

  i am setting up a linux virtual machine (windows 7 64 bit host, ubuntu 64 bit guest, using virtual box) and i just installed drop box and set it to sync. I've only got about 2Gb in there so i figured it should take just an afternoon, but it's going at about 0.5 kB/second and says it will take about 60 days. I usually get about 200 kB/second in the host OS, and downloading straight from the dropbox website through firefox in the ubuntu VM i get about that, but sync is really slow. any tips?

  In Virtual Machine Manager admin console, I used the 'New virtual machine' wizard and created a machine from an existing template. When I got to the Configure Hardware step, I selected the primary hard disk (which is a dynamic) disk and tried to increase it's maximum size, but this control is disabled so I can't increase it. It's not big enough for my purposes. how do I increase the maximum size of the hard-disk? Thanks. Edit: I am able to add a second hard disk of a size I specify. That's not useful though as I'm trying to install some software, some of which insists on being on drive C.

• After moving our Servers to a virtual environment using VMware - SQL timeouts came in, why?

  We moved our servers to a virtual cloud (VMware) where only our servers are in. But as soon as we finished migrating everything we are fighting against SQL Timeouts and machine slowdowns we can't explain. Even though we ~ doubled the servers capacity while switching from physical to virtual. Now I googled and found that we are not alone. People are complaining about poor performance after moving to a cloud managed by VMware. Are there any known issues? Sometimes our services can't access a disk or SQL receives a timeout and we have no idea why.
