  Consider a disk file containing 100 records a. How many comparisons would be required on the average to find a record using sequential search, if the record is known to be in the file? I figured out that this is 100/2 = 50. b. If the record has a 68% probability of being in the file, how many comparisons are required on average? This is the part I'm having trouble with. At first I thought it was 68% * 50, but then realized that was wrong after thinking about it. Then I thought it was (100% - 68%) * 50, but I still feel that that is wrong. Any hints?

  In Java, you can load all kinds of resources using the same API but with different URL protocols: file:///tmp.txt http://127.0.0.1:8080/a.properties jar:http://www.foo.com/bar/baz.jar!/COM/foo/Quux.class This nicely decouples the actual loading of the resource from the application that needs the resource, and since a URL is just a String, resource loading is also very easily configurable. Is there a protocol to load resources using the current classloader? This is similar to the Jar protocol, except that I do not need to know which jar file or class folder the resource is coming from. I can do that using Class.getResourceAsStream("a.xml"), of course, but that would require me to use a different API, and hence changes to existing code. I want to be able to use this in all places where I can specify a URL for the resource already, by just updating a property file.

• Eclipse complains android:scrollbars and android:fadingEdge do not allow Strings - includes code.

  Having a problem in Eclipse with regards to an XML file. Eclipse complains that android:scrollbars and android:fadingEdge do not allow Strings. I checked the Android developer site and they do in fact accept strings in the xml file. A related question posed had the problem where there was a missing :android after xmlns. As you can see from the code the line beginning with xmlns is correct I believe.   Hello, Does anyone know what does the following error mean: +entityForName: could not locate an NSManagedObjectModel for entity name 'TAB_RSS' I noticed my frameworks were highlighted in red UIKIT.framework, Foundation.framework and CoreGraphics.framework. I've now added these but am getting a warning message stating "missing required architecture i386 in file". I think this may be related to the above error. I found another post that may help me http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1...e-i386-in-file but I can't find my project.pbxproj file. I think i need to edit this and remove references to the FRAMEWORK_SEARCH_PATHS. Stephen

  i have a file which will be used across many app projects. the only difference of these files is the webserice referrence name. code like this: public void Test(){ Kevin.ServiceReference1.Service1Client client = new Kevin.ServiceReference1.Service1Client(); // do something.... } like code above, the 'Kevin.ServiceReference1' will be replace by specified app project namespace. so, according to DRY(dont repeat yourself), i shouldn't just copy the file to many projects and rename the specified part manually. is there any way i can easily replace some parts of my template file to something related to the project?

For some reason Im suddenly getting the following error when building my project (sim or device), even though other projects build fine /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneSimulator3.1.3.sdk/System/Library/Frameworks/UIKit.framework/Headers/UIKit.h:61:42: error: UIKit/UIVideoEditorController.h: No such file or directory The last thing I was trying to do was use the UIMessage framework for email, but I have stripped that out!?!? N.B I have checked and the .h file does appear to be in the same folder as the UIKit.h file

But if I use HttpContext.GetLocalResourceObject("~/A.aspx") in B.aspx.cs, it throws an exception: The resource class for this page was not found. • PHP stream_context_set_option SSL certificate as string

  I've got a weird issue. Basically, I need to do this: $handle = stream_context_create(); stream_context_set_option($handle , 'ssl', 'local_cert', '/tmp/cert'); However. The certificate is not held as a file within the server. Rather it's an encrypted string held in a clustered database environment. So instead of the certificate being a file name pointer, its the physical content of the certificate. So instead of using the file name, I need to specify the content of the certificate instead. For example: $cert = '-----BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----.... upWbwmdMd61SjNCdtOpZcNW3YmzuT96Fr7GUPiDQ -----END CERTIFICATE-----'; Does anyone have any idea whatsoever how on earth I can do this? I've generated a keypair thus: $ keytool -genkeypair -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA -keystore keys Next I generate a certificate signing request: $ keytool -certreq -keyalg RSA -alias tomcat -keystore keys -file tomcat.csr Then I copy-paste the contents of tomcat.csr into a form on Thawte's website, asking for a trial SSL certificate. In return I get two certificates delimited with -----BEGIN ... -----END, that I save under tomcat.crt and thawte.crt. (Thawte calls the second certificate a 'Thawte Test CA Root' certificate). When I try to import either of them it fails: $ keytool -importcert -alias tomcat -file tomcat.crt -keystore keys Enter keystore password: keytool error: java.lang.Exception: Failed to establish chain from reply $ keytool -importcert -alias thawte -file thawtetest.crt -keystore keys Enter keystore password: keytool error: java.lang.Exception: Input not an X.509 certificate Adding the -trustcacerts option to either of these commands doesn't change anything either. Any idea what I am doing wrong here?

• Accessing one process's memory contents from another module

  I am developing a virtual device driver such that the user can write to the driver a process' pid and a virtual address, and the module will use these two values to get the memory contents of the target process. I am wondering if there is any easy functions that can fetch user page's data at this virtual address. I have tried get_user but this is not possible because the modules executing get_user at another process's context. I also tried to use ptrace_readdata, however, it seems that the file at /kernel/ptrace.c leaves a function access_process_vm undefined and also I don't know how to compile the source code of my module with this file (the linker seaches file in /linux/include by default). I am wondering if there are any other solutions...

• Why would HTTP transfer via wget be faster than lftp/pget?

  I'm building software that needs to do massive amounts of file transfer via both HTTP and FTP. Often times, I get faster HTTP download with a multi-connection download accelerator like axel or lftp with pget. In some cases, I've seen 2x-3x faster file transfer using something like: axel http://example.com/somefile or lftp -e 'pget -n 5 http://example.com/somefile;quit' vs. just using wget: wget http://example.com/somefile But other times, wget is significantly faster than lftp. Strangly, this is even true even when I do lftp with get, like so: lftp -e 'pget -n 1 http://example.com/somefile;quit' I understand that downloading a file via multiple connections won't always result in a speedup, depending on how bandwidth is constrained. But: why would it be slower? Especially when calling lftp/pget with -n 1?

• Caspol, VMs, Mapped Drives, VS2010

  Hi I have a VM (Win7 32 bit) with VS2010 installed. I have a drive mapped into it from the host machine (VM 64 bit), when I have some of my VS2010 projects and to where I am building them. One of my projects is looking to load an assembly. If I copy that assembly to a local drive, the program ruins fine. If I leave it on the mapped drive, then I get an error Exception is: FileLoadException - Could not load file or assembly 'file:///Z:\BusinessTier\bin\Debug\BusinessTier.dll I am unsure whether or not I need to run Caspol. There is another post on SO which pointed me to a post which indicated that VS2008 SP1+ removed the need for caspol wrt network drives, but I wondered if I still needed to because I am in a VM. I have tried running the following on the host machine in an attempt to give permissions to VS inside the VM, but to no avail C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30128>caspol -m -ag 1.2 -url file://g:\* FullTrust where g:* is the drive being mapped into the VM (as drive z:) What am I missing (apart from understanding!)   I am designing a WIX 3.6 installer project, during the installation we need to grand the user create file permission to the install folder(INSTALLDIR, especially with the default install folder, the Program Files, the user normally can't create file in the installation. We've experienced some failures). I guess it can be achieved by setting a Permission element, with CreateFile property. However, the INSTALLDIR is a directory, and only such elements as CreateFolder, File, FileShare, Registry, ServiceInstall can have permission element. So could anyone tell me how to do that?   I am trying to come up with a function that does a good job of sanitizing certain strings so that they are safe to use in the URL (like a post slug) and also safe to use as file names. For example, when someone uploads a file I want to make sure that I remove all dangerous characters from the name.   I need a blob file field as part of a content type in plone. plone.app.blob's BlobField should provide this, but I can't find how to get a URL to download the file including the original filename (e.g. http://plone.site/plone/obj/orig-file-name.avi). Is there a way to do this using plone.app.blob? Alternately, there are a few pointers on the web pointing to plone.namedfile to do this. plone.namedfile seems to rely on z3c.blobfile. How does z3c.blobfile differ from plone.app.blob? Is one of these methods better than the other? vik
