    I have LAMP running in Ubuntu. However, my files are located on a separate NTFS hard drive (/media/shared/mysite/). going to http://localhost gives me a 403 how can i, securely, allow apache to read/write the NTFS disk? 'shared' is currently being mounted when system boots. here's the entry in fstab: /dev/sda1 /media/shared ntfs-3g quiet,defaults,locale=en_US.utf8,umask=000 0 0

  • DELL Inspiron N 5050 doesn't Power On until I Plug-in the Charger

    I bought a Dell Inspiron N 5050 last week, and recently discovered a problem with my laptop. It doesn't Power On until and unless I Plug-in the charger. After I plug-in the charger, it boots up fine, and continues to work well after disconnecting the charger. I don't know what the problem is exactly? I was planning to contact Customer Care, but I wanted to know if I could fix it myself. Please help!

  • Default setting for dual monitors (using Win+P)

    I have two displays (one monitor and one TV) connected to my card via DVI. I switch between them with Win+P (when I'm using XBMC I set "only projector"). Most of the time, I use it during late hours, so I just turn off the PC (with XBMC's option "shutdown") and go to sleep. All fine, but on the next day my display is changed (to "only projector"). Bottom line is - how can I set my Windows 7 to have "only monitor" each time system boots?

  • Trying to move Users And Program Files Directories to Another Partition

    Currently I've Followed this guide. I pointed my C:\Users, C:\Program Files (x86), and C:\Program Files directories to their respective counterparts on the B: drive. I used mklink /J D:\Users B:\Users (D was the C: drives name in recovery) but when the computer boots, all I get is that the profile can't be loaded. I have to accomplish this, and don't really mind reinstalling as its a fresh install anyway.

Windows boots only if setup DVD is present(i have to ignore "press any key to boot from DVD" prompt). to present the login Screen and everything looks great from here.     Isn't unencrypted /boot partition a weakness for encrypted LVM setup? Attacker may install a malware to /boot partition so that it may sniff encryption password next time system boots. It may also be done by a malware installed to Windows on dual-boot system without any physical access. Am I missing some protection scheme or at least I may verify that /boot contents didn't change since last system shutdown?

    I've installed Ubuntu 12.04.1 in a new server and set up the 4 hard drives with 3 RAID 1 devices, the configuration is such that the first two drives have md0 (swap space) and md1 (/) with the third and fourth drives having md2 (/var). I've been testing the operation under a drive failure and found that the system boots fine if I remove disk two but if I remove disk one then the system gets to grub and then just restarts. I'm confused as to why grub appears to be loading properly from disk two but then the boot fails.

    How can I see if a (ext3) filesystem is mounted by asking the filesystem directly (i.e. the same way that the system does when it boots and sees that it was not unmounted cleanly)? Checking the output of mount is no good because the filesystem might be mounted by a virtual machine. I know I can run fsck and it will abort if the filesystem is mounted, but I don't need to actually check the filesystem.

    I have Fallout Collection and I am trying to run it windowed because of the low resolution. When I change the mode to windowed via the .ini file, however, it boots the game window shoved into the upper left corner of my screen. I can't click the title bar of the window because it just clicks back into the game program. So how can I move it to the center of my screen? I am using Windows 7 professional 64-bit.

Ubuntu, however, shows up first on the list. I'd like to change this order and make Windows 7 first, followed by Ubunutu, then all of the recovery boots after that. Any help on how this is done?

(I wanted to see if a clean install would fix a bug) However, It seems I can no longer access the old part of my computer the way it was before.     I'm not able to install the release ubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386 on the laptop below: Sony Vaio VGN-FE21H CPU: Intel Core Duo T2300 1.66GHz Memory: 2GB DDR2 533MHz HDD: 100GB Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 7400 256MB I'm using the ISO "ubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386.iso" burned into a DVD. I know the ISO is OK because I used it to successfully install on Virtualbox. Live DVD boots and runs OK, but I cannot install from it or directly from the boot menu. The installation goes through all the steps until the final part where is asked the Name, Name of PC and password. The problem is in the next step where it should start copying files and present some screens and features of Ubuntu. In this part the installation just close without any error message. If I am running the installation inside the live DVD it closes and returns to the home screen of the Live. If I am running straight from the boot it closes the graphic interface and restarts the PC. Does anybody know or faced the same problem?

    I am running Ubuntu 12.04 64bit on MacBook Pro 15" 2010 (MacBookPro6,2) and I would like to use the integrated Intel graphics instead of the dedicated Nvidia graphics Ubuntu boots with on this machine. I am booting with UEFI, not REFIT or similar. I managed to switch to UEFI with the help of this page. This wiki page also contains tips on switching to Intel graphics which include some (for me) cryptic boot commands to grub. However if I follow the guide, my display stays just black. Currently, I am only looking for solution to use Intel graphics for Ubuntu to save power and keep my MacBook cool. Dynamic switching or stuff like that is not required.

  • Windows 8 changes GRUB2 in every boot!

    I've installed Win8 and Ubuntu 12.10 both UEFI style (win8 first then ubuntu). GRUB2 shows me Both Ubuntu and Win8 entries. If I boot into Ubuntu is fine. I could reboot anytime I will see GRUB2 unchanged. The story changes when I Boot into Win8. When I boot to Win8 using GRUB2 it takes me to the Windows Boot manager (which only has the Windows 8 entry). I hit Windows and it boots fine. When I reboot, there's no GRUB2 nor Win loader. It has no boot loader. I boot a liveCD and download boot-repair and everything is back. It's a never ending cycle. Is GRUB2 supposed to load the Win boot loader? What can I do to fix it?

    I know this question has been asked many-a-times, but I cant seem to get a definate answer to it. I am running Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS on my HP Pavillion a6 109n PC. Processor is a AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual core Processor. Everytime I boot up my desktop, it runs BIOS, then it boots up Linux. After about 10 seconds, a little blue screen comes up saying: Out of Range: H. Frequency: 92.7KHz V. Frequency: 58.3Hz Can anyone help with this? Thanks! Zach

    Somehow after upgrading to 12.04, my virtual machines always boot with an attempt to boot from the network first. See this: while I don't have any PXE configuration set: I've tried: to disable SPICE, by changing the emulator to /usr/bin/kvm from /usr/bin/kvm-spice by editing the XML. Ctrl+B to configure the iPXE, but it doesn't let disable this as a boot option. setting another type of NIC - not an option, I need virtio for performance reasons. However, e1000e doesn't work either. removing the NIC: works. However, I need network. Googling around. Hard. Lots of result is about failing configured PXE boots. Not a big issue, but it increases boot times by 50-100% here (booting from SSD), so it's relatively long and annoys me. How can I disable this and boot from virtual hard disk directly?

UBUNTU 12.04 works well with livecd but fails to start after complete installation, black screen with a blinking cursor. I tried holding shift key and edit grub options but holding shift did not do anything. I give up, any suggestion. I have built in intel graphics card and an nvidia card in PCI. I have tried by removing nvidia card as well. All I see is a black screen with a blinking cursor. My system is Dell optiplex GX260 with 1GB ram and 2.4 GHz P4 processor
