  • Microsoft Excel not graphing

    - by SmartLemon
Im not sure if this is a math question or a su question. The experiment was relating the period of one "bounce" when you hang a weight on a spring and let it bounce. I have this data here, one being mass and one being time. The time is an average of 5 trials, each one being and average of 20 bounces, to minimize human error. t 0.3049s 0.3982s 0.4838s 0.5572s 0.6219s 0.6804s 0.7362s 0.7811s 0.8328s 0.869s The mass is the mass that was used in each trial (they aren't going up in exact differences because each weight has a slight difference, nothing is perfect in the real world) m 50.59g 100.43g 150.25g 200.19g 250.89g 301.16g 351.28g 400.79g 450.43g 499.71g My problem is that I need to find the relationship between them, I know m = (k/4PI^2)*T^2 so I can work out k like that but we need to graph it. I can assume that the relationship is a sqrt relation, not sure on that one. But it appears to be the reverse of a square. Should it be 1/x^2 then? Either way my problem is still present, I have tried 1/x, 1/x^2, sqrt, x^2, none of them produce a straight line. The problem for SU is that when I go to graph the data on Excel I set the y axis data (which is the weights) and then when I go to set the x axis (which is the time) it just replaces the y axis with what I want to be the x axis, this is only happening when I have the sqrt of "m" as the y axis and I try to set the x axis as the time. The problem of math is that, am I even using the right thing? To get a straight line it would need to be x = y^1/2 right? I thought I was doing the right thing, it is what we were told to do. I'm just not getting anything that looks right.

  • "Network is unreachable" When pinging google, can connect to internal computers on debian VM

    - by musher
Similar to this SU question: "Network is unreachable" when attempting to ping google, but internal addresses work Actually, it's pretty much the same base issue. I went through that thread trying to find a solution, I changed my resolv.conf: before: domain [my work domain] search [my work domain] nameserver [my gateway] nameserver [my gateway2] I changed it to: after: domain [my work domain] search [my work domain] nameserver 8.8.8.8 nameserver 8.8.4.4 However, any time I reboot the computer the resolv.conf gets overwritten to the previous version (the 'before' above). The issues began after I installed virtualbox additions, X server and (specifically) LXDE: Cat of apt history.log: Start-Date: 2014-08-21 10:03:42 Commandline: apt-get install virtualbox-guest-utils virtualbox-guest-dkms Install: x11-xkb-utils:amd64 (7.7+1, automatic), libxaw7:amd64 (1.0.12-2, automatic), xfonts-utils:$ End-Date: 2014-08-21 10:03:56 Start-Date: 2014-08-21 10:18:39 Commandline: apt-get install lxde Install: desktop-base:amd64 (7.0.3, automatic), libgoa-1.0-0b:amd64 (3.12.4-1, automatic), lxmenu-d$ End-Date: 2014-08-21 10:21:52 Start-Date: 2014-08-21 10:26:40 Commandline: apt-get upgrade Upgrade: libio-socket-ssl-perl:am ifconfig on the guest: root@Peridot:~# ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 08:00:27:89:c9:20 og inet addr:172.31.2.102 Bcast:172.31.2.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::a00:27ff:fe89:c920/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:2281 errors:0 dropped:1 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:463 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:266507 (260.2 KiB) TX bytes:120554 (117.7 KiB) lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:65536 Metric:1 RX packets:4 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:4 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:240 (240.0 B) TX bytes:240 (240.0 B) The adapter in VBox is a bridged adapter directly onto my ethernet connection; as are my other 2 VMs (which work) Other SU questions I've tried: "connect: Network is unreachable" in VirtualBox VM

  • Geocoding Chinese addresses using Google Maps API in Python?

    - by Jack Low
I have looked into Geopy and googlemaps (http://py-googlemaps.sourceforge.net/) and they both do not work for Chinese addresses. My app is stored on the Google App Engine. What I want to do is to parse a file containing addresses of restaurants in Hong Kong, and then Geocode the addresses and store the Lat and Lng in the datastore. How do I do this?

He aquí un breve resumen: 1.

  • refactor LINQ TO SQL custom properties that instantiate datacontext

    - by Thiago Silva
I am working on an existing ASP.NET MVC app that started small and has grown with time to require a good re-architecture and refactoring. One thing that I am struggling with is that we've got partial classes of the L2S entities so we could add some extra properties, but these props create a new data context and query the DB for a subset of data. This would be the equivalent to doing the following in SQL, which is not a very good way to write this query as oppsed to joins: SELECT tbl1.stuff, (SELECT nestedValue FROM tbl2 WHERE tbl2.Foo = tbl1.Bar), tbl1.moreStuff FROM tbl1 so in short here's what we've got in some of our partial entity classes: public partial class Ticket { public StatusUpdate LastStatusUpdate { get { //this static method call returns a new DataContext but needs to be refactored var ctx = OurDataContext.GetContext(); var su = Compiled_Query_GetLastUpdate(ctx, this.TicketId); return su; } } } We've got some functions that create a compiled query, but the issue is that we also have some DataLoadOptions defined in the DataContext, and because we instantiate a new datacontext for getting these nested property, we get an exception "Compiled Queries across DataContexts with different LoadOptions not supported" . The first DataContext is coming from a DataContextFactory that we implemented with the refactorings, but this second one is just hanging off the entity property getter. We're implementing the Repository pattern in the refactoring process, so we must stop doing stuff like the above. Does anyone know of a good way to address this issue?

  • CRM 2011 - Set/Retrieve work hours programmatically

    - by Philip Rich
I am attempting to retrieve a resources work hours to perform some logic I require. I understand that the CRM scheduling engine is a little clunky around such things, but I assumed that I would be able to find out how the working hours were stored in the DB eventually... So a resource has associated calendars and those calendars have associated calendar rules and inner calendars etc. It is possible to look at the start/end and frequency of aforementioned calendar rules and query their codes to work out whether a resource is 'working' during a given period. However, I have not been able to find the actual working hours, the 9-5 shall we say in any field in the DB. I even tried some SQL profiling while I was creating a new schedule for a resource via the UI, but the results don't show any work hours passing to SQL. For those with the patience the intercepted SQL statement is below:- EXEC Sp_executesql N'update [CalendarRuleBase] set [ModifiedBy]=@ModifiedBy0, [EffectiveIntervalEnd]=@EffectiveIntervalEnd0, [Description]=@Description0, [ModifiedOn]=@ModifiedOn0, [GroupDesignator]=@GroupDesignator0, [IsSelected]=@IsSelected0, [InnerCalendarId]=@InnerCalendarId0, [TimeZoneCode]=@TimeZoneCode0, [CalendarId]=@CalendarId0, [IsVaried]=@IsVaried0, [Rank]=@Rank0, [ModifiedOnBehalfBy]=NULL, [Duration]=@Duration0, [StartTime]=@StartTime0, [Pattern]=@Pattern0 where ([CalendarRuleId] = @CalendarRuleId0)', N'@ModifiedBy0 uniqueidentifier,@EffectiveIntervalEnd0 datetime,@Description0 ntext,@ModifiedOn0 datetime,@GroupDesignator0 ntext,@IsSelected0 bit,@InnerCalendarId0 uniqueidentifier,@TimeZoneCode0 int,@CalendarId0 uniqueidentifier,@IsVaried0 bit,@Rank0 int,@Duration0 int,@StartTime0 datetime,@Pattern0 ntext,@CalendarRuleId0 uniqueidentifier', @ModifiedBy0='EB04662A-5B38-E111-9889-00155D79A113', @EffectiveIntervalEnd0='2012-01-13 00:00:00', @Description0=N'Weekly Single Rule', @ModifiedOn0='2012-03-12 16:02:08', @GroupDesignator0=N'FC5769FC-4DE9-445d-8F4E-6E9869E60857', @IsSelected0=1, @InnerCalendarId0='3C806E79-7A49-4E8D-B97E-5ED26700EB14', @TimeZoneCode0=85, @CalendarId0='E48B1ABF-329F-425F-85DA-3FFCBB77F885', @IsVaried0=0, @Rank0=2, @Duration0=1440, @StartTime0='2000-01-01 00:00:00', @Pattern0=N'FREQ=WEEKLY;INTERVAL=1;BYDAY=SU,MO,TU,WE,TH,FR,SA', @CalendarRuleId0='0A00DFCF-7D0A-4EE3-91B3-DADFCC33781D' The key parts in the statement are the setting of the pattern:- @Pattern0=N'FREQ=WEEKLY;INTERVAL=1;BYDAY=SU,MO,TU,WE,TH,FR,SA' However, as mentioned, no indication of the work hours set. Am I thinking about this incorrectly or is CRM doing something interesting around these work hours? Any thoughts greatly appreciated, thanks.

  • Any reasons to avoid using Windows XP Themes?

    - by bporter
There are so many cool themes out there for Windows XP. I'm interested in trying some out, but I wanted to check with the SU community first: Assuming you download and install a theme from a "trusted" source, do you find they tend to degrade system performance, cause issues with various GUI applications, etc.? Or, do you find they do not really affect your system in a negative way?

No clue if this is an appropriate SU question or if it's best migrated elsewhere. I help administer a Facebook fan page for a local business. Recently one of the other administrators accidentally deleted the Facebook fan page. We have tried to fill out this form: http://www.facebook.com/developers/developer_help.php And have yet to receive a response. We are desperate to have the fan page restored. Thanks for any pointers.

  • Effect of HOME on libreoffice to convert to pdf as non-root user

    - by user1032531
I installed libreoffice-headless and can convert documents when logged on as root. I then tried doing so as another user, and it didn't show an error, but didn't convert the file. I then found that if I get rid of the HOME=/tmp/ayb, it works with the other user. Doesn't HOME=/tmp/ayb just allow files to default to this directory if not specified? (Sorry, I tried to search "Linux HOME", but as you probably expect, received a bunch of non-relevant results). If not, what is the purpose of specifying HOME? Why does setting HOME prevent it from converting on non-root users? Note that /tmp and /tmp/ayb or both 0777. • Cannot delete audit logs with sudo

    - by DazSlayer
I am using auditctl to log all commands run on my Ubuntu system and I working on a script that parses the log into a more readable format. Since these logs tend to become very large, I want to periodically delete the logs. I found that by running sudo rm /var/log/audit/* I would get rm: cannot remove `/var/log/audit/*': No such file or directory however by running sudo su rm /var/log/audit/* The logs would be deleted without any problem. What could be the cause of this?

  • /etc/inputrc does not seem to be recognized as user on Ubuntu 8.04.2 LTS

    - by Brian Hogg
On a new installation of Ubuntu 8.04.2 LTS, logging in as a standard user does not maintain the keybindings (whether through sudo su - or direct from ssh). As the root user everything is fine and /root/.inputrc does not exist (only /etc/inputrc) which has its default settings. In addition setting a ~/.bashrc and ~/.profile to the same as the root user (and chown'ing to user:user) has no effect. Am I missing something here?

  • libpam-ldapd not looking for secondary groups

    - by Jorge Suárez de Lis
I'm migrating from libpam-ldap to libpam-ldapd. I'm having some trouble gathering the secondary groups from LDAP. On libpam-ldap, I had this on the /etc/ldap.conf file: nss_schema rfc2307bis nss_base_passwd ou=People,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es nss_base_shadow ou=People,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es nss_base_group ou=Groups,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es nss_map_attribute uniqueMember member The mapping is there because I'm using groupOfNames instead of groupOfUniqueNames LDAP class for groups, so the attribute naming the members is named member instead of uniqueMember. Now, I want to do the same using libpam-ldapd but I can't get it to work. Here's the relevant part of my /etc/nslcd.conf: base passwd ou=People,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es base shadow ou=People,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es base group ou=Groups,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es map group uniqueMember member And this is the debug output from nslcd, when a user is authenticated: nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: connection from pid=12090 uid=0 gid=0 nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: nslcd_passwd_byuid(4004) nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: myldap_search(base="ou=People,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es", filter="(&(objectClass=posixAccount)(uidNumber=4004))") nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_initialize(ldap://172.16.54.31/) nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_set_rebind_proc() nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_PROTOCOL_VERSION,3) nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_DEREF,0) nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_TIMELIMIT,10) nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_TIMEOUT,10) nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_NETWORK_TIMEOUT,10) nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_REFERRALS,LDAP_OPT_ON) nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_RESTART,LDAP_OPT_ON) nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_simple_bind_s("uid=ubuntu,ou=Applications,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es","*****") (uri="ldap://172.16.54.31/") nslcd: [8b4567] connected to LDAP server ldap://172.16.54.31/ nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_result(): end of results nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: connection from pid=15906 uid=0 gid=2000 nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: nslcd_pam_authc("jorge.suarez","","su","***") nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: myldap_search(base="ou=People,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es", filter="(&(objectClass=posixAccount)(uid=jorge.suarez))") nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_initialize(ldap://172.16.54.31/) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_rebind_proc() nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_PROTOCOL_VERSION,3) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_DEREF,0) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_TIMELIMIT,10) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_TIMEOUT,10) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_NETWORK_TIMEOUT,10) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_REFERRALS,LDAP_OPT_ON) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_RESTART,LDAP_OPT_ON) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_simple_bind_s("uid=ubuntu,ou=Applications,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es","*****") (uri="ldap://172.16.54.31/") nslcd: [7b23c6] connected to LDAP server ldap://172.16.54.31/ nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_initialize(ldap://172.16.54.31/) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_rebind_proc() nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_PROTOCOL_VERSION,3) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_DEREF,0) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_TIMELIMIT,10) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_TIMEOUT,10) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_NETWORK_TIMEOUT,10) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_REFERRALS,LDAP_OPT_ON) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_RESTART,LDAP_OPT_ON) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_simple_bind_s("uid=jorge.suarez,ou=People,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es","*****") (uri="ldap://172.16.54.31/") nslcd: [7b23c6] connected to LDAP server ldap://172.16.54.31/ nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: myldap_search(base="uid=jorge.suarez,ou=People,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es", filter="(objectClass=posixAccount)") nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_unbind() nslcd: [3c9869] DEBUG: connection from pid=15906 uid=0 gid=2000 nslcd: [3c9869] DEBUG: nslcd_pam_sess_o("jorge.suarez","uid=jorge.suarez,ou=People,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es","su","/dev/pts/7","","jorge.suarez") It seems to me that it won't even try to look for groups. I live in a country that enjoys manipulating DNS entries for fun and profit. For various reasons, I cannot surf with a VPN running 100% of the time. Because some sites are only blocked via DNS spoofing, it would be very handy if I could run a local DNS server that I could update on command during active VPN sessions. Is this granularity possible on Win7? Most of the DNS server related posts on SU are regarding the more config-friendly Linux platforms...
