• small light laptop with docking station that has a PCI(e) slot

  Hi everyone, I am looking for a new laptop/netbook and I have two simple requirements: must be small (10-12in screen) and light (<=3-3.5pounds); must work with a dock into which I can put a PCI or PCI Express card. Basically, I have no performance requirements. Discontinued or low-end are fine. All I want is something easy to carry that when at work I can use a PCI/PCI Express card with to do multi-head. Eg, if an Acer Aspire 1410 fitted the second requirement I would by one in a blink. The only solution with which I am acquainted are Thinkpads that can go into the Thinkpad Advanced Dock. Do other laptop (or netbook brands) also offer the possibility of using Although this is not a "requirement" per se, I would rather hear about options that would not involve buying the latest-greatest-+$2k model... : ) Thank you for any advice! ~lara

• Show USB drives in launcher, but not mounted internal partitions

  Well the title pretty much says it all. I have partitions that appear in the launcher when the system mounts them, just like when a USB key is plugged in. I do not want these mounted internal hard disc partitions to show as icons in the launcher, but I do want my external USB to show there when I plug it in. I've tried MyUnity - it has only an option to not show/hide all mounted devices, which is not what I want. Can this be done? • Linksys WRT54GS V6 Router Blinking Power Light

  I have a Linksys WRT54GS V6 Router in my possession got it at my local goodwill for 5$. Upon start up the Power LED starts flashing like crazy and at the same time the Ethernet ports all light up once then turn off (DMZ and WLAN never turn on). I can ping the router only by setting a static IP on my Pc. I can also successfully push a file (official Linksys OS and DD-wrt) into it via TFTP but this currently does nothing (no 192.1681.1 Access). Any ideas as to what may be wrong? I think its pretty obvious that it's bricked but.. I keep hearing a whole lot of "if it pings it's fixable" on the internet.

• Why will Screenshot not show up in Dash?

  I'm relatively new to Ubuntu, and am running into a problem I've not seen before. This is on an Ubuntu 12.04 system. I can't find Screenshot. I'm trying to take a shot of a screen from a web page, go to Dash, type in Screenshot, and nothing shows up. I've done this many times before, but suddenly Screenshot is not found. I downloaded an app called Shutter, it seems to have installed just fine, but like Screenshot, I don't know how to find it. Dash reveals nothing. In Dash, I've noticed that I have no applications showing up in response to a search. For instance, I can type Firefox, and get no results either, even though I'm using Firefox to submit this question. Is there something I can do to get Dash to show applications? Search results show only files and folders, and downloads. I did find one answer on Ask Ubuntu, which gave the following instructions: None of these fixes worked for me. But after more searching: rm ~/.cache/software-center -R worked like a charm. I did need to run: unity --reset & afterwards though, for the changes to take effect within dash, but the software center just started working straightaway. However, when I issued the unity --reset & command, it resulted in an internal error, and I'll have to reboot in order to reset my computer (which fortunately is allowing me to complete this question). So I'm still wondering why applications won't show in Dash, and will appreciate any help.

• What do light purple color mean in uTorrent

  I run uTorrent 3.1.2 in my Windows 7 PC. When I download one file, I see some purple colored lines under Files Tab Pieces. Below is an image of what I am telling (little resized); I think that the light green color indicates downloaded parts. But I have no idea about purple lines. The file is a streamable mp3 file. The connection speed is very low, about 5KB/s down and 1KB/s up. The done file size is not progressing in a smooth way (usually changes in KB are visible), it stays as it is for sometime and then changes to a size (changes in MB), and again the same thing. Questions: Why does this happen? What does the purple color mean? Thank you.

• Alternative to Rhythmbox that's light on CPU.

  I'm running Ubuntu Lucid on my netbook, and I like listening to music while doing other stuff. Problem is: Rhythmbox is constantly consuming 7-9% of my CPU while it's playing. Now, 9% might not seem like much, but it's more than double the sum of all other processes, and it's a battery killer. Now, I know that any music player will be active (not idle) while playing, and thus will consume more CPU power than idle processes. But I'd still like to know if there's a good music player for Ubuntu that's light on CPU.

• jquery show / hide div on click even in a slideshow?

  Is it possible to combine a slideshow and show / hide div functionality? My html structure is below, and basically, I'm trying to get the tabs a links to open up the div with the corresponding class if a user clicks on it. If a user doesn't click on it, it should still just cycle through each image. So, if the images are rotating, and I click on <a class="t2"> then would open. • Plymouth and GRUB do not show at all

  I am using Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit as my only OS on my desktop computer, which used to only run Ubuntu 10.04 LTS until I had the time to upgrade it with a fresh install. It uses integrated NVIDIA graphics (listed as a GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 by the NVIDIA X Server Settings utility) with the current proprietary driver as provided by the Additional Drivers utility, and has a VGA connection to a 1680x1050 Acer monitor. I used to get the (ugly-looking version of) Plymouth graphical boot screen while under 10.04. It didn't look that great, but I was fine with it. Now, it doesn't show on 11.04 at all during boot (I just get an error message in a moving gray box from the monitor saying "Input Not Supported"), and only rarely it will show on shutdown, all garbled up. I could not get GRUB to show during boot while holding down Shift, either (same error message), but pressing Enter while it should be up starts the system normally. A picture of the error message I was getting: Once fully booted, the system still shows the login screen and desktop just fine. Any information on how to troubleshoot this would be appreciated. If there's any hardware-specific stuff I forgot to include here, let me know the relevant commands to run in a comment below. I can now see GRUB during startup when I hold Shift and a normal-looking Plymouth during shutdown...but Plymouth during boot is now just a solid purple screen. In each case, it's displayed a little off-center to the left, with a thin black bar running down the right side of the monitor. The error pictured above no longer shows. I'd say this problem is about 2/3 solved now. UPDATE: After Natty started freezing up on me, I decided to dual-boot with Oneiric, which unfortunately shows the same problems. Rather than trying all these workarounds though, I decided to do what I should have done from the start and file a pair of bug reports. LAST UPDATE: Bug 850908 has been confirmed as a legitimate nouveaufb bug. I have overwritten my 11.04 partition with 12.04 LTS, and I can confirm at this time that the issue is present there, as well. I will now flag this question to be closed, yet I hope it was helpful for anyone who experienced similar issues; if you are still having the same problem as me, please go there and mark yourself as affected. • How can I show a div, then hide the other divs when a link is clicked?

  I am right now trying to hide six divs while showing only one of the divs. I've tried JavaScript and in jQuery, but nothing seems to work! Click here to get to the website. • Why doesn't my grub background show?

  I've tried to change resolution, colors and background image for my grub menu, but I get no background (well, just a black one, no image).... What am I doing wrong? • HP tx2510us shuts down without warning, now won't boot, no BIOS codes, screen doesn't light

  Hey all, HP tx2150us worked great for a year and a half, rarely it would shut down instead of sleeping. It started running hot sometimes, I installed Win7, worked great, still running hot. Before Xmas, it gave me evidence of video errors - jagged lines, rows missing. That same night, it started rebooting, then it shut off and wouldn't boot. It gave me a BIOS code, I shut it off to look up the code online. When I turned it on again, it won't boot at all. The LEDs all light up, the fan, HD, and optical all spin up, but the screen never lights up and it doesn't try to boot, nor does it blink any BIOS codes. It just acts like it's sleeping, and won't wake up. I suspected heat problems, so I disassembled it, cleaned the crap out of the fan, and reassembled it, breaking the stereo mic connector. Oh well. When I reassembled it, it booted up into Win7 again, but kept shutting down for no discernible reason. After a dozen or so random reboots like that, it is now back to where it was - turns on but doesn't boot or give BIOS codes. The screen never lights, and everything spins up then idles. Any ideas? I really can't afford to buy a new one and I use(d) it to take ALL my notes, that's why I got a tablet in the first place.

• Show raw Text Code from a URL with CodePaste.NET

  I introduced CodePaste.NET more than 2 years ago. In case you haven't checked it out it's a code-sharing site where you can post some code, assign a title and syntax scheme to it and then share it with others via a short URL. The idea is super simple and it's not the first time this has been done, but it's focused on Microsoft languages and caters to that crowd. Show your own code from the Web There's another feature that I tweeted about recently that's been there for some time, but is not used very much: CodePaste.NET has the ability to show raw text based code from a URL on the Web in syntax colored format for any of the formats provided. I use this all the time with code links to my Subversion repository which only displays code as plain text. Using CodePaste.NET allows me to show syntax colored versions of the same code. • APC UPS replace battery light and apcupsd reporting "replace battery"

  We have an APC Smart UPS 1500. The "Replace Battery" light is on, and apcupsd reports: Emergency! Batteries have failed on UPS xxxx. Stranger, according to the information on the UPS, an 11 minute runtime at 42.9% load running at 27.7V isn't so bad. Any thoughts about what to try next? We're a non-profit, money is an object. • Share on Facebook does not show thumbnail images

  I have a PHP application which has a "Share on Facebook" button that, On the development server shows the thumbnail images correctly and allows the user to select between them On the live server, it does NOT show the thumbnail images at all. The relevant portion of the .htaccess file is: # Set up caching on media files for 2 days <FilesMatch "\.(gif|jpg|jpeg|png|flv)$"> ExpiresDefault A172800 Header append Cache-Control "public" </FilesMatch> I'm using the exact same set of php files and .htaccess, but the server configuration is different. What could be causing this? Note that the text appears fine. Edit1 We are also doing some URL rewriting related to images in the .htaccess (on both servers): ... RewriteRule ^.*/content/image/(.*)$ content/image/$1 [L] ... RewriteRule ^.*/images/(.*)$ images/$1 [L] ... Would that be somehow making a difference? Images appear fine all throughout the site. • When syncing, removed contacts still show upp (One contacts)

  Hi! I just tried out using the Ubuntu One Contacts app for android. First I imported all the contacts from my phone, SIM-card and Google mail account, then I spent quite a while removing duplicates which got imported. Then I tried to sync it for the first time. The strange thing is that I also got all the contacts which I removed from my contacts list on the website. So I have to set "show only contacts with phone numbers" to get all the email adresses I imported from google ealier to not show up, even though I deleted them from the contacts list and have only Ubuntu One contacts showing. Why is that? Thank you!

  Late last night I got to record an interview with Conor Cunningham.Most people that know Conor have come across him as the product team wizard that knows so much about query processing and optimization in SQL Server. Conor is currently spending quite a lot of time working on Windows Azure SQL Database, which we used to know as SQL Azure. I'm still trying to think of a good way to say "WASD". I suppose I'll pronounce it like "wassid". Windows Azure SQL Reporting is easier. I think it just needs to be pronounced like "wazza" with a very Australian accent.In the show, we've spent time on the current state of the platform, on dispelling a number of common misbeliefs about the product, and hopefully on answering most of the common questions that seem to get asked about it. • Google search does not show sub-pages from my website

  My website appears in Google search, but only the first page. Of course I have sub-pages linked from the first page, but the sub-pages do not show in Google search. Not in Yahoo, not in Bing. What should I do? It has been three years that sub-pages do not show. (I tried searching site:mydomain.com and pressed 'repeat the search with the omitted results included' link) What would you suspect the reason? My website addresses were like xxx.php?yy=zzz etc, etc, so I changed it to /yy/zzz using mod_rewrite. I thought it might be (X)HTML standard violations, so now I changed it. I hope Google will soon have my entire website, but I am a little bit pessimistic. Do you have any thought?

• How to show other characters in online 2D rpg

  I have Player 1 and Player 2 I am using Json to send and retrieve player data between the client and the server, but when another player logs in, and is in the same map, how would I send that data to both players to update the graphics engine to show there are 2 Players on the map? About my game it is a 2D RPG tile based game it is 24x15 Tiles it is Real time Action it should interact anywhere between 10-150 ping players interact with each other when in the same map and can see each other moving around the game world is persistent, and is saved when the server shuts down Right now the server just sends the player Only their information which is inside a Json Object Here is an example of what I am talking about If you notice there are 2 separate characters in 2 separate clients, but they are running on the same server. I am trying to get them to show up on both clients, but I don't know how I should accomplish this. Should I send it as an added value in the Json object? Also what is the name of this process so I can look it up and find more info on it?
