  In our application there's a list of customers, and a list of keywords (among other things). Each customer can have a number of keywords, but it's not mandatory. So for instance, one customer can have the keywords "retail" and "chain", one can have only "contractor" and a third can have none at all. I want to let the user make a selection of customers based on these keywords, but not having to write (retail AND chain) or contractor and not wholesale I would like to make it as user-friendly as possible, and ideally with only "simple" controls, like checkboxes, comboboxes etc. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to design this? Or maybe some examples of applications where there are similar functionality?

• Paperclip - Validate File Type but not Presence

  I am using paperclip to handle my file uploads, and in one situation I don't want the file to be mandatory. I do however want to make sure it is a specific file type when it is present. I have this: class TestModel < ActiveRecord::Base #stuff has_attached_file :sound #etc... validates_attachment_content_type :sound, :content_type => ['audio/mp3', 'application/x-mp3'] end And when I have no sound file present, it tells me it is not one of the valid content types. I've tried adding '' to the :content_type array, which also doesn't work! I also attempted creating a lambda procedure for the :if property, but I can't get it to run without some kind of error. Anything missing here?

  Suppose that I am creating a Java project with the following classes com.bharani.ClassOne com.bharani.ClassTwo com.bharani.helper.HelperOne com.bharani.helper.support.HelperTwo with files put immediately under the folder 'src' src/ClassOne.java src/ClassTwo.java src/HelperOne.java src/HelperTwo.java and compile them using the command $ javac src/*.java -d classes (assuming that classes directory exists) The compiler compiles these files and put the class files in appropriate sub-directories inside the 'classes' directory like this classes/com/bharani/ClassOne.class classes/com/bharani/ClassTwo.class classes/com/bharani/helper/HelperOne.class classes/com/bharani/helper/support/HelperTwo.class Because the spec mandates that the classes should go inside appropriate directory structure. Fine. My question is this: When I use an IDE such as Eclipse or NetBeans, they create the directory structure for the source code directory ('src' directory here) also. Why is that? Is it mandatory? Or, is it just a convention? Thanks.

• Validate data before uploading through SSIS

  I have a SSIS package to upload data from Excel file into an Sql Server 2005 table. The excel file will have varied lines of data ranging from 20k - 30k lines. The upload works fine, when all the data are correct. But obviously fails when there is a small problem even in a single row. Examples like mandatory values presented null, inconvertable values (data type mismatch) etc. I want to validate the excel file before the upload and want to tell the user which row and column has got the error... Any idea as to how to accomplish this, without consuming much time and resources. Thanks

  Hi, I use syntax like name varchar(20) NOT NULL in mysql..i have a big confusion over here. typically does it mean that this field is mandatory? but when i store a space in this field it accepts it.is it correct. its like while insert i say '".$_POST['name']."'. even if the name does not have any value query is executed. can any1 just clarify me on this ? is NULL and blank space same ?

  I need to call another shell script testarg.sh within my main script. This script testarg.sh has arguments ARG1 ,ARG2, ARG3. I need to call up the below way ./testarg.sh -ARG1 -ARG2 -ARG3 ARG1 and ARG3 argument Variables are mandatory ones. If its not passed to the main script then i quit. ARG2 is an optional one. BUT,now question is when i tried it with Cacti it will not respond anything,but detect windows snmp service..it just respond to the requests of the SNMP Managers. So,Is it mandatory to provide mib with SNMP Agent??.

  i'm trying to wrap my head around how to enterprise up my code: taking a simple routine and splitting it up into 5 or 6 methods in 3 or 4 classes. i quickly came up three simple examples of code how i currently write it. Could someone please convert these into an MVC/MVP obfuscated version? Example 1: The last name is mandatory. Color the text box red if nothing is entered. Without any understanding of they why it's being one some way, it makes no sense. And using the words model, view, controller and presenter, like i'm supposed to know what that means, doesn't help. The model is your data. The view shows data on screen. The controller is used to carry out the users actions And oranges taste orangy. Here's my attempt at splitting things up in order to make the code more difficult to follow. Pretend it's on a desktop, handheld, surface, kiosk. And pretend it's language agnostic.

• Cannot Generate ParameterSetMetadata While Programmatically Creating A Parameter Block

  I'm trying to programmatically create a parameter block for a function ( along the lines of this blog post ). I'm starting with a CommandMetadata object (from an existing function). I can create the ParameterMetadata object and set things like the ParameterType, the name, as well as some attributes. The problem I'm running into is that when I use the GetParamBlock method of the ProxyCommand class, none of my attributes that I set in the Attributes collection of the ParameterMetadata are generated. The problem this causes is that when the GetParamBlock is called, the new parameter is not annotated with the appropriate Parameter attribute.   Hi All Just hoping soemone can help me to write better code than I can come up with on my own. I am using the jquery validation plugin. I have some fields that are mandatory ONLY if certain options are chosen. The below code works fine. But the thing is, is that that my list of 'OR's is much longer than I've put here. and it needs to be applied not just to 'directorsName' but a whole long list of inputs, selects etc. My question is.. how can I wrap up the code contained inside the RETURN? (so I dont have to keep repeating my 'OR's.   I'm currently developping an expression method (used in linq to entity queries) who has to give me a daycount for a given period (start date and end date) decrementing this daycount if specials days are in the period. My idea was the following : Generate an enumerable with all the dates (and with Enumerable.Range) Make a .Where on this enumerable to remove the specials dates Like a MyEnumerable.Where(a = a != "20120101") After that, return a MyEnumerable.Count() I come with this code : return (p) => Enumerable .Range(1, 4) .Where(a => a != 20120101) .AsQueryable() .Count() I tried to cast as a list, as a queryable, both (like the example) and no way ! it doesn't work ! I always get this error : LINQ to Entities does not recognize the method 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable`1[System.Int32] Range(Int32, Int32)' method, and this method cannot be translated into a store expression. Have you got an idea about that ? Using an enumerable is of course not mandatory, any working solutions is good ^^ Thank's by advance !

• Confusion using MYSQLI

  I just started using mysqli API for PHP. Apparently, every time an object of the class MYSQLI is instantiated, it can setup a connection to the database as it connects to the server unlike mysql_connect, which connects to the server first and then you are required to specify the database to query. Now this is a good problem if the db exists, in my case, the db does not exist on the first ever connection to the server/execution of the problem, hence I must connect without specifying the database, which is fine, since the msyqli constructor does not make this database mandatory. My challenge is essentially, how do I check if the database exists before attempting the first connection. The only way to really do this would be to establish a conection to the server and then use the result of the following query to gauge if the database exists: SELECT COUNT(*) AS `exists` FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.SCHEMATA WHERE SCHEMATA.SCHEMA_NAME="dbname" ; If this returns true, then the database exists, but now the challenge is how do I get the mysqli object to query this database rather than having to prefix the name of the database in the query. • Tool to maintain a Data Mapping between two systems

  We have XML interfaces between multiple systems. An Enterprise Domain Model is missing in the overall architecture, hence the terms Product/Customer/User means different things to different systems. We currently use excel sheets to map the elements in incoming XML to what the actual Field means within our system. Additionally, it contains the values of Mandatory/Optional and length of each field. We call this the Data Dictionary. Any changes to the XML go through rounds of deliberation and updates to Word and Excel documents. Is there a better way to do this? Any tool/GUI based approach which all systems and owners can view?

• Intent flags to Login page redirect, killing previous Activities

  Basically I have a Service that at some points it will sync with the network in order to check if the token is still valid. if it isn't, it should redirect to the login screen (from the service) and if the user press the back button, it should NOT show the previous Activity but instead exit the app. I'm not asking how to hack onBackPressed, I already know how to do it. I'm asking how to accomplish this using the intent flags. So far I have tried the following: intent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP | Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK); Using the FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK is mandatory because I'm calling startActivity() from a service (or at least thrown exception told me so), and using FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP cause it was supposed to remove all previous activities from the stack, leaving only the new one. The issue is if I press back, I am still able to go to the previous Activity, which makes me think the combination of both flags are clearing the activities in the NEW task, not in the previous one I might be wrong on the reason, but it doesn't work. Any help will be appreciated, thanks

  I need to implement message passing, my idea is to make some sort of message source (I inherit from public gr_sync_block) that works as a controller for another block (it has to send a message each 6 minutes). I read that is necessary to inherit from gnuradio::block -and by the way, installing grextras is mandatory-. In the .h file I added the #include and inherited from block"class JDFM_API jdfm_control : public gr_sync_block, public gnuradio::block". I know that I have redefine some things like the gnuradio::block constructor but I dont know what msg_signature is, I also don't get the relation between block's parameters and work parameter, the last thing that I am not sure is if I still can use gnuradio-companion if I create a block like this. I haven't been able to find a simple example of messages implementation. If anyone can guide me or show me an example, it would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

• UiScrollView with scrolling content

  I have a detail page of type UIScrollView. On it I want an optional UIImageView and a mandatory UITextView. If no image is available then the image view should not take any space. The text for the text view can be of varying sizes. When the view is loaded with, say, the image and the text I need to be able to scroll through all the contents. So the image slips off the top of the screen. I just can't get this work and I feel it ought to be easy. Any ideas?

• Using inheritance with multiple files in Ruby

  I am new to Ruby . I have a question with respect to using Inheritence in Ruby . I have a class called as Doggy inside a file named Doggy.rb class Doggy def bark puts "Vicky is barking" end end I have written another class named Puppy in another file named puppy.rb class Puppy < Doggy end puts Doggy.new.bark I am getting this Error: Puppy.rb:1:in `<main>': uninitialized constant Doggy (NameError) Is it mandatory to have these classes (Doggy and Puppy ) inside a single file only?
