  • Easy and fast software for mixing music [closed]

    - by Pennf0lio
Please suggest some good software that lets you mix music seamlessly. I have tested some software and most of them are hard to use. I have tried fruity loops, FruityLoops I think is great for people who have some experience with mixing music. What I'm looking for is software for people who don't have experience with mixing. The pieces of music I am planning to join are different from each other, they have different Tempo and Beat. The music will be used in my friend's dance and she wants the music to contentiously play without pausing or jumping to another song. She wants the songs to flow smoothly. Any Advice? Thanks!

  • What is the procedure for debugging a production-only error?

    - by Lord Torgamus
Let me say upfront that I'm so ignorant on this topic that I don't even know whether this question has objective answers or not. If it ends up being "not," I'll delete or vote to close the post. Here's the scenario: I just wrote a little web service. It works on my machine. It works on my team lead's machine. It works, as far as I can tell, on every machine except for the production server. The exception that the production server spits out upon failure originates from a third-party JAR file, and is skimpy on information. I search the web for hours, but don't come up with anything useful. So what's the procedure for tracking down an issue that occurs only on production machines? Is there a standard methodology, or perhaps category/family of tools, for this? The error that inspired this question has already been fixed, but that was due more to good fortune than a solid approach to debugging. I'm asking this question for future reference. • To File Share or to not File Share, that is the Question.

To file share or to not file share, that is the question. The concept of the internet was developed in the 1960’s as a revolutionary idea to share information and data amongst a group of computers. The original concept was to allow universities and the United States Military share data for research and field operations. This network of computers was designed to provide redundant data storage and communications in case one or more locations were destroyed. Since the inception of the internet, people have attempted to use it for sharing data. As the Internet has evolved so did the users and the information they wanted to share. In today’s modern internet people can share information through various avenues, for example: websites, social networks, email, documents, executable files, data files and much more.  Unfortunately, as the internet and its users have grown, some industries have not paid attention. Currently, there are several industries that have really fallen behind in keeping up with current trends, and are severely paying the price for their lack of action. A current example of this is with the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and file sharing. RIAA contends that customers who purchase music can only listen to the music and cannot share it with others. This can be seen when the RIAA sued Napster for distributing copyrighted music through a technology called file sharing. File sharing as defined by the Media Awareness Network is downloadable software that permits users to share music, video, image or book files directly with peers. Users of file sharing networks simply had to extract the music from a CD into a music compatible format. Typically most music files at that time where saved as MPEG file format. Once the users got music in this format it was very easy share their music with others. The big question now is who actually owns the music, does the music industry still retain the rights of the music regarding who has access to listen to it, or is it up to the owner of the music CD.  According to the First – Sale Doctrine, it is the right of the purchaser of the CD to decide who can access the information on the CD. In addition, the original owner looses all rights to the music once it has been sold.  The importance of defining who actually owns the music has a great impact on the future of the industry. If the industry is determined to be the actual owner of the music then anyone who has shared at least 1 fine with another is guilty of violating the copyright. However, if the owners of the CD are determined to be the owners of the music then the music industry will have to figure out some other way to protect their music so that it is more lucrative for them or they will go out of business. • Test and Production Server

    - by Mike Silvis
I am using Git for a test and production server and I'm trying to figure out the best way to update the production server. I have limited SSH access, and don't want to manually update my production server using FTP. I essentially would like to just be able to run a simple command and have the whole production server files match my dev. It is also important to note that users will be uploading images, and other files to our production server only, that we can not lose. Thanks, any help is appreciated

  • Best practices for logging user actions in production

    - by anthonypliu
I was planning on logging a lot of different stuff in my production environment, things like when a user: Logs In, Logs Off Change Profile Edit Account settings Change password ... etc Is this a good practice to do on a production enviornment? Also what is a good way to log all this. I am currently using the following code block to log to: public void LogMessageToFile(string msg) { System.IO.StreamWriter sw = System.IO.File.AppendText( GetTempPath() + @"MyLogFile.txt"); try { string logLine = System.String.Format( "{0:G}: {1}.", System.DateTime.Now, msg); sw.WriteLine(logLine); } finally { sw.Close(); } } Will this be ok for production? My application is very new so im not expecting millions of users right away or anything, looking for the best practices to keeping track of actions on a website or if its even best practice to.

  • Do programmers possess the means of production?

    - by Peter Turner
I was listening to The Servile State by Hilare Belloc this morning and pondering whether or not I possessed the means of production, as did the peasant of the middle ages; as did not his descendants after the oligarchs of England forced him into servility. The means of production was the arable land that the serf was seated on, which even though not legally his, was illegal to evict him from. So, as programmers, with the hither-to-unknown supply of free tools and resources, have we reclaimed as a class of workers, unlike any others, the means of production. Given the chance, a midrange PC and a stable internet connection, could we not each of us be wholly self sufficient and not just wage earners?

  • Should I reinstall my production server from 32 bit to 64 bit if it has 16GB of RAM?

    - by Alexandru Trandafir Catalin
I have a production server with 16GB of RAM that came with a 32bit CentOs installation. The website hosted on this server is increasing its traffic every day and I am having some MySQL trouble so I tried to check the MySQL configuration with mysqltuner.pl and gave me the following messages: [!!] Switch to 64-bit OS - MySQL cannot currently use all of your RAM *** MySQL's maximum memory usage is dangerously high *** *** Add RAM before increasing MySQL buffer variables *** So my question is: can I survive with the 32 bit? Or I will have to install the 64 bit OS? Thanks.

  • How do I get rid of duplicates in Rhythmbox even though the music in my Home folder is not showing duplicates?

    - by Drake
I clicked import within Rhythmbox in Ubuntu 12.04 so I could get music to Ubuntu from my windows partition. The music appeared in my Rhythmbox library and I started playing it. However, when I restarted my computer the imported music did not show up. I looked in my music library and it was completely empty. So, I copied all of my music from my Windows partition into my music folder and launched Rhythmbox, but now it shows duplicates of all of the music I have. How can I get rid of the duplicate files if they are not showing in my Home folder?

  • How do you handle the task of changing the schema of a production MySQL database?

    - by Continuation
One of the biggest complaints I have heard about MySQL is that it locks up a table if you try to change its schema like adding a column or adding an index. By "locking up the table" does it mean I can neither read nor write to the table? Sometimes for hours? That seems a pretty severe limitations. I was going to use MySQL for my new project but this gives me pause. Is there a workaround for this? How do you handle the task of changing the schema of your production MySQL database? By the way someone told me Postgresql doesn't have this problem. Is that true - I can both read and write to a Postgresql table while changing its schema? Is there any performance penalty incurred? Would love to hear your experiences.

  • Is it safe/wise to run Drupal alongside bespoke business web apps in production?

    - by Vaze
I'm interested to know the general community feeling about the safety of running Drupal alongside bespoke, business critial ASP.NET MVC apps on a production server. Previously my employer's Drupal based 'visitor website' was hosted as a managed service with a 3rd party. While the LoB sites were hosted in-house. That 3rd party is no longer available so I'm considering my options: Bring Drupal in-house Find another 3rd party My concern is that I have little experience with Drupal administration (and no experience securing it) and that the addition of PHP to my IIS server poses a security risk. Is there a best practice that I can follow in this situation?

  • Increasing traffic for music blog

    - by Wladimir Ivanov
I own a music blog with some articles and of course youtube iframes and mp3 listening plugins. I get traffic from google and some not very popular site (I don't mention it because you can think it's a SPAM) where I post links with pictures to my posts. Any ideas to get more traffic for this kind of blog? I know about Myspace, blog directories, video sharing sites, same niche blogs and relevant forums. Anything I'm missing? Thanks in advance

  • Support for HRT Music Streamer II

    - by Duckers
I'm considering a HRT Music Streamer II DAC (digital analog converter) for my HTPC. I run Ubuntu 10.10, but considering a upgrade to 11.04. Will this DAC be P'n'P, or at least easy to set up? http://www.highresolutiontechnologies.com/support/ indicates its supported on Mac and Windows. Linux is not mentioned. All my searches seems to indicate that its a bit troublesome, but those are posts from 2009 and older.
