  • Introducing the Metro User Interface on Windows 2012

    - by andywe
Although I am a big fan of using PowerShell to do many of my server operations, that aspect is well covered by those far more knowledgeable than I, and there is vast information around the web already on that. The new Metro interface, and getting around both Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 though is relatively new, even for those whop ran the previews. What is this? A blank Desktop!   Where did the start button go? Well, it is still there...sort of. It is hidden, and acts like an auto hidden component that appear only when the mouse is hovered over the lower left corner of the screen. Those familiar with Gnome or OSX can relate this to the "Hot Corners" functions. To get to the start button, hover your mouse in the very left corner of the task bar. Let it sit there a moment, and a small blue square with colored tiles in it called start will appear. Click it. I clicked it and now I have all the tiles..What is this?   Welcome to the Metro interface. This is a much more modern look, and although at first seems weird and cumbersome, I have actually found that it is a bit more extensible, allowing greater organization and customization than the older explorer desktop. If you look closely, you'll see each box represents either a program, or program group. First, a few basics about using the start view. First and foremost, a right mouse click will bring up a bar on the bottom, with an icon towards the right. Notice it is titled “All Apps”. An even easier way in many places is to hover your mouse in the exact opposite corner, in the upper right. A sidebar will open and expose what used to be a widget bar (remember Vista?), and there are options for Search, Start, and Settings.   Ok Great, but where is everything? It’s all there…Click the All Apps icon.   Look better? Notice the scroll bar at the bottom. Move it right..your desktop is sized to your content..so you can have a smaller, or larger amount of programs exposed. Each icon can be secondary clicked (right mouse click for most of us, and an options bar at the bottom, rather than the old small context menu, is opened with some very familiar options.   Notice the top of the Windows Explorer window has some new features. You still have your right mouse click functions, but since the shortcuts for these items already exist..just copy them. There are many ways, but here is a long way to show you more of the interface. 1. Right mouse click a program icon, and select the Open File Location option. 2. Trusty file manager opens…but if you look closely up at top edge of the window, you’ll see a nifty enhancement. An orange colored box that is titled Shortcut Tools and another lavender box Title Application tools. Each of these adds options at the top of the file manager window to make selection easy. Of course, you can still secondary click an item in the listing window too. 3. Click shortcut tools, right click your app shortcut and copy it. Then simply paste it into the desktop outside the File Explorer window Also note some of the newer features. The large icons up top below the menu that has many common operations. The options change as you select each menu item. Well, that’s it for this installment. I hope this helps you out.

  • Positioning Layers and text gradients with css

    - by Kenji Crosland
I'm a CSS newbie trying to get some text gradients going on. I tried this code here but it didn't work for me, most likely because the h1 object is nested within a #header div. I imagine there's something to do with layers that I don't know about. Either I get a gradent block that is in front of everything or it's not appearing at all. In this particular instance this code makes a big gradient bar appear in front of everything: #header { clear:both; float:left; -moz-background-inline-policy:continuous; -moz-background-origin:padding; background:#080E73 url(../images/header-background.png) repeat-x left 0px; width:100%; max-height: 175px; color: #080E73; } #header h1 { margin-bottom: 0; color: #000; position: relative; } #header h1 span { background:url(../images/headline-text.png) repeat-x; display: block; width: 100%; height: 100%; position: absolute; } Here is the HTML (I'm using ruby on rails hence the notation) <div id="header"> <% unless flash[:notice].blank? %> <div id="notice"><%= flash[:notice] %></div> <% end %> <%= image_tag ("header-image.png") %> <h1><span></span>Headline</h1> <strong>Byline</strong> ... #navbar html... </div> I tried playing with z-index but I couldn't come up with any good results. Any ideas?

  • php claims my defined variable is undefined

    - by tedders
My php is a little rusty but this is boggling my mind right now. I googled this and read all the stackoverflow questions I could find that looked related, but those all seemed to have legitimate undefined variables in them. That leads me to believe that mine is the same problem, but no amount of staring at the simple bit of code I have reduced this to seems to get me anywhere. Please someone give me my dunce cap and tell me what I did wrong! <?php //test for damn undefined variable error $msgs = ""; function add_msg($msg){ $msgs .= "<div>$msg</div>"; } function print_msgs(){ print $msgs; } add_msg("test"); add_msg("test2"); print_msgs(); ?> This gives me the following, maddening output: Notice: Undefined variable: msgs in C:\wamp\www\fgwl\php-lib\fgwlshared.php on line 7 Notice: Undefined variable: msgs in C:\wamp\www\fgwl\php-lib\fgwlshared.php on line 7 Notice: Undefined variable: msgs in C:\wamp\www\fgwl\php-lib\fgwlshared.php on line 10 Yes, this is supposed to be a shared file, but at the moment I have stripped it down to just what I pasted. Any ideas?

  • Athentication Problem - not recognizing 'else' - Ruby on rails...

    - by bgadoci
I can't seem to figure out what I am doing wrong here. I have implemented the Super Simple Authentication from Ryan Bates tutorial and while the login portion is functioning correctly, I can't get an error message and redirect to happen correctly for a bad login. Ryan Bates admits in his comments he left this out but can't seem to implement his recommendation. Basically what is happening is that when someone logs in correctly it works. When a bad password is entered it does the same redirect and flashes 'successfully logged in' thought they are not. The admin links do not show (which is correct and are the links protected by the <% if admin? %) but I need it to say 'failed login' and redirect to login path. Here is my code: SessionsController class SessionsController < ApplicationController def create if session[:password] = params[:password] flash[:notice] = 'Successfully logged in' redirect_to posts_path else flash[:notice] = "whoops" redirect_to login_path end end def destroy reset_session flash[:notice] = 'Successfully logged out' redirect_to posts_path end end ApplicationController class ApplicationController < ActionController::Base helper_method :admin? protected def authorize unless admin? flash[:error] = "unauthorized request" redirect_to posts_path false end end def admin? session[:password] == "string0826" end helper :all # include all helpers, all the time protect_from_forgery # See ActionController::RequestForgeryProtection for details # end

  • UIWebView: webViewDidStartLoad/webViewDidFinishLoad delegate methods not called when loading certain URLs

    - by Dia
I have basic web browser implemented using a UIWebView. I've noticed that for some pages, none of the UIWebViewDelegate methods are called. An example page in which this happens is: http://www.youtube.com/user/google. Here are the steps to reproduce the issue (make sure you insert NSLog calls in your controller's UIWebViewDelegate methods): Load the above youtube URL into the UIWebView [notice that here, the UIWebViewDelegate methods do get called when the page loads] Touch the "Uploads" category on the page Touch any video in that category [issue: notice that a new page is loaded, but none of the UIWebView delegates are called] I know that this is not an issue of UIWebView's delegate not being set properly, since the delegate methods do get invoked when loading other links (e.g. if you try clicking on a link that takes you outside of youtube, you'll notice the delegate methods getting called). My gut feeling initially was that it might be because the page is loaded using AJAX, which may not invoke the delegate method. But then when I checked Safari, it did not exhibit this problem, so it must be something on my side. I've also noticed that Three20's TTWebController has the exact same issue as I'm having. But the problem that arises from this issue is that without the delegate methods called, I'm unable to update the UI to enable/disable the back and forward browsing buttons when new requests are loaded. And idea why this is happening or how can I work around it to update the UI when a new request is made?

  • Paperclip: Stay put on edit

    - by EricR
When a user edits something in my application, they're forced to re-upload their image via paperclip even if they aren't changing it. Failing to do so will cause an error, since I validate_presence_of :image. This is quite annoying. How can I make it so Paperclip won't update its attributes if a user simply doesn't supply a new image on an edit? The photo controller is fresh out of Rails' scaffold generator. The rest of the source code is provided below. models/accommodation.rb class Accommodation < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :photo validates_presence_of :photo has_one :photo has_many :notifications belongs_to :user accepts_nested_attributes_for :photo, :allow_destroy => true end controllers/accommodation_controller.rb class AccommodationsController < ApplicationController def index @accommodations = Accommodation.all end def show @accommodation = Accommodation.find(params[:id]) rescue ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound flash[:error] = "Accommodation not found." redirect_to :home end def new @accommodation = current_user.accommodations.build @accommodation.build_photo end def create @accommodation = current_user.accommodations.build(params[:accommodation]) if @accommodation.save flash[:notice] = "Successfully created your accommodation." redirect_to @accommodation else @accommodation.build_photo render :new end end def edit @accommodation = Accommodation.find(params[:id]) @accommodation.build_photo rescue ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound flash[:error] = "Accommodation not found." redirect_to :home end def update @accommodation = Accommodation.find(params[:id]) if @accommodation.update_attributes(params[:accommodation]) flash[:notice] = "Successfully updated accommodation." redirect_to @accommodation else @accommodation.build_photo render :edit end end def destroy @accommodation = Accommodation.find(params[:id]) @accommodation.destroy flash[:notice] = "Successfully destroyed accommodation." redirect_to :inkeep end end models/photo.rb class Photo < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :image, :primary belongs_to :accommodation has_attached_file :image, :styles => { :thumb=> "100x100#", :small => "150x150>" } end

  • What legal disclaimer do you use?

I'm working on some code at the moment, but I was wondering what legal disclaimers you have? This is for some work that I'm providing to a friend for free. • Symfony deploying issue

I have some problem while configuring symfony project on the production server. When I run the command doctrine --build --all --and-load it gives me error in the production environment: doctrine Dropping "doctrine" database PHP Notice: Undefined index: dbname in /var/www/sf_project/lib/vendor/symfony/lib/plugins/sfDoctrinePlugin/lib/vendor/doctrine/Doctrine/Connection.php on line 1472 Notice: Undefined index: dbname in /var/www/sf_project/lib/vendor/symfony/lib/plugins/sfDoctrinePlugin/lib/vendor/doctrine/Doctrine/Connection.php on line 1472 doctrine SQLSTATE[42000]: Syntax error or access violation: 1064 You have an erro...e right syntax to use near '' at line 1. But if I run the command second times it fails partially while crating the tables. I have changed my database.yml configuration properly for the production environment. here it is: all: doctrine: class: sfDoctrineDatabase param: dsn: mysql:host=localhost;dbname=sf_project port: 3306 username: root password: mainserver Its working right in the local environment though. Can some one shed some light on it ?

  • How to tune down the Hyperic built-in postgresql database for a small setup

    - by Svish
We are testing out Hyperic 4.5.1 in a quite small environment for now. Currently there are just 1-5 agents and there probably won't be any more than 10-15. When I run ps ax there are 20(!) postgres processes running. For a small setup like this, that can't be necessary, can it? I'm a software developer and don't have much experience with setting up servers and such though, so don't really know. Either way, what settings are appropriate for a small Hyperic setup like this? Current, default and untouched configuration file, hqdb/data/postgresql.conf: # ----------------------------- # PostgreSQL configuration file # ----------------------------- # # This file consists of lines of the form: # # name = value # # (The '=' is optional.) White space may be used. Comments are introduced # with '#' anywhere on a line. The complete list of option names and # allowed values can be found in the PostgreSQL documentation. The # commented-out settings shown in this file represent the default values. # # Please note that re-commenting a setting is NOT sufficient to revert it # to the default value, unless you restart the server. # # Any option can also be given as a command line switch to the server, # e.g., 'postgres -c log_connections=on'. Some options can be changed at # run-time with the 'SET' SQL command. # # This file is read on server startup and when the server receives a # SIGHUP. If you edit the file on a running system, you have to SIGHUP the # server for the changes to take effect, or use "pg_ctl reload". • Error connecting to Sonicwall L2TP VPN from iPad/iPhone

    - by db2
A client has a Sonicwall Pro 2040 running SonicOS 3.0, and they'd like to be able to use the L2TP VPN client from their iPads to connect to internal services (Citrix, etc). I've enabled the L2TP VPN server on the Sonicwall, made sure to set AES-128 for phase 2, and set up the configuration on a test iPad with the appropriate username, password, and pre-shared key. When I attempt to connect, I get some rather cryptic error messages in the log on the Sonicwall: 2 03/29/2011 12:25:09.096 IKE Responder: IPSec proposal does not match (Phase 2) [My outbound IP address redacted] (admin) [WAN IP address redacted] 10.10.130.7/32 -> [WAN IP address redacted]/32 3 03/29/2011 12:25:09.096 IKE Responder: Received Quick Mode Request (Phase 2) [My outbound IP address redacted], 61364 (admin) [WAN IP address redacted], 500 4 03/29/2011 12:25:07.048 IKE Responder: IPSec proposal does not match (Phase 2) [My outbound IP address redacted] (admin) [WAN IP address redacted] 10.10.130.7/32 -> [WAN IP address redacted]/32 5 03/29/2011 12:25:07.048 IKE Responder: Received Quick Mode Request (Phase 2) [My outbound IP address redacted], 61364 (admin) [WAN IP address redacted], 500 The console log on the iPad looks like this: Mar 29 13:31:24 Daves-iPad racoon[519] <Info>: [519] INFO: ISAKMP-SA established 10.10.130.7[500]-[WAN IP address redacted][500] spi:5d705eb6c760d709:458fcdf80ee8acde Mar 29 13:31:24 Daves-iPad racoon[519] <Notice>: IPSec Phase1 established (Initiated by me). • mod_fcgid process doesn't respawn

    - by aaronsw
I have a Python script running on my server as a FastCGI using Apache2 and mod_fcgid. I let it spawn up to five processes. But I soon get messages like these in the Apache logs: [Wed Sep 02 23:16:34 2009] [warn] (103)Software caused connection abort: mod_fcgid: ap_pass_brigade failed in handle_request function [Wed Sep 02 23:16:35 2009] [warn] (103)Software caused connection abort: mod_fcgid: ap_pass_brigade failed in handle_request function and then Apache doesn't seem to recognize that all its processes are dead (I have a max of 5 backends) and refuses to spawn new ones: [Wed Sep 02 23:26:16 2009] [notice] mod_fcgid: /var/www/hacks.og.theinfo.org/picker.fcgi total process count 5 >= 5, skip the spawn request [Wed Sep 02 23:26:17 2009] [notice] mod_fcgid: /var/www/hacks.og.theinfo.org/picker.fcgi total process count 5 >= 5, skip the spawn request at which point it refuses to respond to requests from the outside world. This doesn't seem to happen with my other FastCGIs, which all use the same Apache config: <IfModule mod_fcgid.c> AddHandler fcgid-script .fcgi IPCConnectTimeout 20 MaxProcessCount 5 DefaultMaxClassProcessCount 2 DefaultMinClassProcessCount 1 </IfModule> Any idea what causes it?

  • Apache/passenger/ree doesn't interpret .rb files

    - by Sergey
I'm trying to get apache + passenger + ree to work. I think I did everything (except for setting up rails env - for now I wanna run just pure ruby) described here: http://rvm.beginrescueend.com/integration/passenger/ But when I try to go to localhost/test.rb it doesn't interpret that file and just download it. I don't know where should I look for mistakes, so here are a few files I think could be relevant: /var/log/apache2/error.log (these 2 lines are repeating) [Mon May 31 23:12:47 2010] [notice] Graceful restart requested, doing restart [Mon May 31 23:12:48 2010] [notice] Apache/2.2.14 (Ubuntu) PHP/5.3.2-1ubuntu4.2 with Suhosin-Patch Phusion_Passenger/2.2.11 configured -- resuming normal operations /etc/apache2/httpd.conf LoadModule passenger_module /home/sergey/.rvm/gems/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/gems/passenger-2.2.11/ext/apache2/mod_passenger.so PassengerRoot /home/sergey/.rvm/gems/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/gems/passenger-2.2.11 PassengerRuby /home/sergey/.rvm/bin/passenger_ruby /var/www/test.rb puts "test"

I am using the below to match urls and add a trailing slash. Under location / rewrite ^([^.]*[^/])$ $1/ permanent; According to he logs below, it is working, however the get request is still he old url, prior to adding the slash, which results in a 404. 2013/11/08 12:33:19 [notice] 29919#0: 92 "^([^.][^/])$" matches "/foo", client: 100.100.100.100, server: _, request: "GET /foo HTTP/1.1", host: "100.100.100.100" 2013/11/08 12:33:19 [notice] 29919#0: *92 rewritten redirect: "/foo/", client: 100.100.100.100, server: _, request: "GET /foo HTTP/1.1", host: "100.100.100.100" Any suggestions as to why this might be happening?

  • vCenter Server: This host currently has no management network redundancy

    - by goober
Background I'm on a new VMWare install consisting of: 1 vCenter Server (containing inventory service, SSO, vCenter server, and web client server) 2 ESX Servers configured in a HA group Problem When a I view the summary for any one of my servers, I receive a notice: "" This is expected in our scenario and we're okay with it. Attempted Solutions As I understand from this article and this discussion, the proper way to remove the error message is to ignore it via setting the "das.ignoreRedundantNetWarning" propery to "true". I took the following steps: Logged into vCenter Right-clicked on my HA cluster and chose "Edit Settings..." Clicked "vSphere HA" section Clicked "Advanced Options..." Added the "das.ignoreRedundantNetWarning" option with a value of "true". Question How do I get this error to go away, and are there any reasons why adding this option may not have worked? • Compiz command plugin won't register keyboard shortcuts

    - by David Moles
Per this discussion I've enabled the Compiz commands plugin in order to try to bind some keyboard shortcuts to wmctrl actions. CCSM captures my keystrokes just fine, but no matter what keystroke I try or what command I bind it to (everything from my original intention of binding Super-1, Super-2 etc. to wmctrl -o 0,0, wmctrl -o 2560,0, etc., to binding Ctrl-Alt-Shift-L to gnome-terminal). Basic compiz shortcuts for window switching and so on -- even custom ones -- seem to work fine, but the command plugin doesn't seem to be working at all. I also notice the following symptom: when I open the keyboard shortcut tab in CCSM, the keyboard shortcuts often at first appear blank, though if you click on the blank button, the correct value is still there. Also possibly related, I've noticed that gnome-terminal doesn't seem to notice the Super key, though other apps (e.g. CCSM, Emacs) register it fine. Anyway, it seems like something's eating my keystrokes. Any ideas?

  • Running PHP 5.2 FastCGI + Apache on CentOS 5 issue

    - by Goran
I am trying to setup 2 versions of PHP on Centos 5.9 using this tutorial: http://linuxplayer.org/2011/05/intall-multiple-version-of-php-on-one-server. I have followed I have installed default 5.4.19, and I was trying to setup another 5.2.17 PHP version to be run with Fast CGI and I followed the second part completely. However, when I try to run http://web2.example.com it returns 500 error message. In the apache log there are only 2 lines that repeat: [notice] mod_fcgid: call /var/www/web2/index.php with wrapper /usr/local/php52/bin/fcgiwrapper.sh and [notice] mod_fcgid: process /var/www/web2/index.php(25250) exit(server exited), terminated by calling exit(), return code: 255 Please note that I had to add .php at the and of the FCGIWrapper because apache would not start without it: FCGIWrapper /usr/local/php52/bin/fcgiwrapper.sh .php Also please note that http://web1.example.com with PHP 5.4.19 is working absolutely fine. Please help. Thank you very much in advance.

  • Either, nginx+php-fpm bad config or nginx+php-fpm cannot handle high query?

    - by The Wolf
I have wordpress installed in my server configured(hopefully with nginx+php-fpm+mariaDB). I am trying to import using wordpress importer a 1.5MB xml file. Everytime I try to upload it using the importer, it got cut of... meaning just blank screen result.. Here is my error log: actually I just posted 2 of the errors [error] 858#0: *1 connect() failed (111: Connection refused) while connecting to upstream, client: xx.xxx.xx.xx, server: xxx.com, request: "GET xxxx.html HTTP/1.1", upstream: "fastcgi://127.0.0.1:9000", host: "xxx.com" [error] 858#0: *13 connect() failed (111: Connection refused) while connecting to upstream, client: xxx.x.xx.xx, server: xxx.com, request: "GET xxxx.php HTTP/1.1", upstream: "fastcgi://127.0.0.1:9000", host: "xxx.com" I don't know what is the reason why it can't process the wordpress export .xml. I already increased max_file_upload & etc., but nothing happens. Hope somebody can help me. • Cannot connect puppet agent to puppet master

    - by u123
I have installed puppet 3.3.1 on a debian 7 machine (test-puppet-master) and the puppet agent on another debian 7 machine (test-puppet-agent/192.11.80.246) acting as a client. I start the master with: puppet master --verbose --no-daemonize And I start the agent with: puppet agent --server=test-puppet-master --no-daemonize --verbose Notice: Did not receive certificate which gives the following output on the master: Notice: Starting Puppet master version 3.3.1 Error: Could not resolve 192.11.80.246: no name for 192.11.80.246 Info: Inserting default '~ ^/catalog/([^/]+)$' (auth true) ACL Info: Inserting default '~ ^/node/([^/]+)$' (auth true) ACL Info: Inserting default '/file' (auth ) ACL Info: Inserting default '/certificate_revocation_list/ca' (auth true) ACL Info: Inserting default '~ ^/report/([^/]+)$' (auth true) ACL Info: Inserting default '/certificate/ca' (auth any) ACL Info: Inserting default '/certificate/' (auth any) ACL Info: Inserting default '/certificate_request' (auth any) ACL Info: Inserting default '/status' (auth true) ACL Info: Not Found: Could not find certificate test-puppet-agent Error: Could not resolve 192.11.80.246: no name for 192.11.80.246 Info: Not Found: Could not find certificate test-puppet-agent Error: Could not resolve 192.11.80.246: no name for 192.11.80.246 Info: Not Found: Could not find certificate test-puppet-agent Any ideas why the agent cannot connect?

    - by Gregg Leventhal
    notice ("This should be echoed") service { "iptables": ensure => "stopped", } This does not stop iptables, I am not sure why. service iptables stop works fine. Puppet 2.6.17 on CentOS 6.3. UPDATE: /etc/puppet/manifests/nodes.pp node 'linux-dev' { include mycompany::install::apache::init include mycompany::config::services::init } /etc/puppet/modules/mycompany/manifests/config/services/init.pp class mycompany::config::services::init { if ($::id == "root") { service { 'iptables': #name => '/sbin/iptables', #enable => false, #hasstatus => true, ensure => stopped } notice ("IPTABLES is now being stopped...") file { '/tmp/puppet_still_works': ensure => 'present', owner => root } else { err("Error: this manifest must be run as the root user!") } }

  • What is an SSH key?

    - by acidzombie24
I signed up for github and notice the ssh key option which looked interesting. I originally expected something like an ssl key (name, co name, etc). After going through it i notice i only put a password and it is always myuser@comp-name (this is windows). Why? I thought it was a user/pass id and i can create separate keys for separate purpose for privacy reasons. Now i see i am required to use one to create a repository. Also i see something about a 'private key file' when looking at options. What exactly is an SSH Key and how can i create a separate user without creating a separate login in windows.
