  • Which software development methodologies can be seen as foundations

    I'm writing a small research paper which involves software development methodologiess. I was looking into all the available methodology's and I was wondering, from all methodologies, are there any that have provided the foundations for the others? For an example, looking at the following methodologies: Agile, Prototyping, Cleanroom, Iterative, RAD, RUP, Spiral, Waterfall, XP, Lean, Scrum, V-Model, TDD. Can we say that: Prototyping, Iterative, Spiral and Waterfall are the "foundation" for the others? Or is there no such thing as "foundations" and does each methodology has it's own unique history? I would ofcourse like to describe all the methodology's in my research paper, but I simply don't have the time to do so and that is why I would like to know which methodologies can be seen as representatives.

  • using php to list some files in folders

    I have collected many free themes from around internet. Each of them has a screenshot.jpg or png file on their folder. I want to scan all the folders for that file, and return the full file path to be used with an img html tag. I am not interested on partial path or folders where there are not screenshots. For example, if my fodler structure is: ./a/b/ ./c/d/e/screenshot.jpg ./f/ ./g/screenshot.jpg ./h/i/j/k/ ./l/m/screenshot.png ./n/o/ ./p/screenshot.jpg I want to get: ./c/d/e/screenshot.jpg ./g/screenshot.jpg ./l/m/screenshot.png ./p/screenshot.jpg I managed somehow to get a recursive function, but I figured only the way to return an array and then i can't get rid of what I don't need, and I miss png.   • Agile development challenges

    With Scrum / user story / agile development, how does one handle scheduling out-of-sync tasks that are part of a user story? We are a small gaming company working with a few remote consultants who do graphics and audio work. Typically, graphics work should be done at least a week (sometimes 2 weeks) in advance of the code so that it's ready for integration. However, since SCRUM is supposed to focus on user stories, how should I split the stories across iteration so that they still follow the user story model? Ideally, a user story should be completed by all the team members in the same iteration, I feel that splitting them in any way violates the core principle of user story driven development. Also, one front end developer can work at 2X pace of backend developers. However, that throws the scheduling out of sync as well because he is either constantly ahead of them or what we have done is to have him work on tasks that not specific to this iteration just to keep busy. Either way, it's the same issue as above, splitting up user story tasks. If someone can recommend an active Google agile development group that discusses these and other issues, that'll be great. Also, if you know of a free alternative to Pivotal Labs, let me know as well. I'm looking now at Agilo.

  • Get access to files on old HD installation and remove system files

    I have been fooling with ubuntu for only a year or so. Added SSD installed ubuntu(12.04 64bit) connected old drive with ubuntu on it. everything seems to work well, except for access to some files. I would like to do two things: 1) move the swap file from the SSD to the partition on the HD. 2) remove ubuntu system files and gain full access to my other files. I can still remove the SSD and run ubuntu from the HD, so if I am approaching this incorrectly please advise. Thanks in advance Blake

  • Releasing Mobile Application under multiple platforms, same time or?

    I've always had this idea circling around until I am facing this issue. We made an android app, it is ready, but we are planning to release the same app on iOS and possibly Windows Phone; Now, should we just release the Android app and promise the clients that the iOS version is coming soon (create anticipation before release) or delay the release until the iOS version is ready ? Same applies if we have a premium and free version, should we release the free version and promise that the better premium is coming soon, or release them both the same time ? Best Regards

  • What are the memory-management capabilities of MySQL + JDBC (in light of autonomic computing)?

    I'm interested in implementing some kind of autonomic-computing functionality using MySQL. By autonomic-computing I mean roughly some failsafe abilities, whereby the application appears to be at least slightly "intelligent" For reference, the main parts of autonomic computing we'd like are the "self-configuring" and "self-healing" features (the other two - "self-optimizing" and "self-protecting", are too abstract/futuristic for us, at this time). Sofor example, if we have a sample Java application that utilizes a MySQL database, we might want to automatically restart the MySQL database if we take up too much memory. Or maybe we want to have the ability to dynamiccally adjust the database memory as needed. So for example, when we start the application the database begins with a 56 Megabyte buffer; but then as we insert so many rows we want to have it automatically jump up to 512 MB, then to 1024, until a max of 4096 MB. Does all of the above suggest that MySQL is too "weak" for the task? Do you suggest using Oracle database? My professor believes that by using Java we can basically make up for any memory-management deficiencies that MySQL has in relation to Oracle DB. I'm new to MySQL , but have experience with Oracle. If all of the above sounds wishy-washy, it is because I'm still fleshing it out. thanks

  • Cannot copy files from external hard drive to desktop hard drive in Window 7

    I'm trying to copy some old files from one of my external hard-drives to the hard drive of my desktop PC. Some files can not be copied but giving the error like 'Cannot read from source file or disk'. Those files are videos files (.DAT, .VOB, .MPG) and I watched them all the way through with no issues so the files aren't corrupted. I'm running Windows 7, with admin permissions. Could any one let me know the reason and a solution?

    hi, i have an project with name called(dbservice layer) which is in path: d:\webservice\DBService. here i have an webservice which connects to DB and returns an object of an class. once i added an reference here i get an url:http://localhost:2371/Jobs.svc now i have another project name (UILayer) whic is in path: E:\School\UILayer i added an service reference here with url as http://localhost:2371/Jobs.svc but i get an messgae telling service is unable why is that happening. if both my webserivce layer and ui layer are in same project. then i able to use the webserive in the ui layer. and get the required output so i wanted to know is there any way we can acesss the webserive from one project to another project thanks in advance prince

  • DragDrop registration did not succeed in Setup Project

    Hello, we have some installation project in Visual Studio solution (Other project types - Setup and deployment - Setup project). This project have other library type project with Installation class named InstallationCore like project output. In user action I call to Install and Uninstall functions of installer of InstallationCore. InstallationCore has windows forms for interaction with user. There, in forms, I use Drag and Drop functionality for Drag and Drop text from Tree View to Text Box. But in line: txbUserName.AllowDrop = true; I get error of JIT debugger: Unhandled exception has occured DragDrop registration did not succeed System.InvalidOperationException: DragDrop registration did not succeed And long stack trace after that. Important to say, that when I run Installer function from test project the error did not occur and all work fine. Error occurs only when I run the .msi package. Any suggestions? Thank you for ahead.

I have seen this question: Open Source Alternative to Microsoft Project?, which suggests to use openproj. Openproj's last version was released 2 years back so I was thinking otherwise. Also following the wiki project management softwares comparison, I found out there are lot of opensource alternatives.     Hiya, I'm trying to find an integrated PM solution which will give my business all of the following: Timesheeting so we can track time spent on tasks Holiday planner (integrated with timesheet and project management Project management tool, integrating the above, with milestones, gantt chart, dependancies etc. Forecasting ability (nice to have, but not a requirement) Reporting capability - especially time spent on projects, costs etc. Now yeah, that's quite a lot of functionality, I appreciate that! But currently we've got 3 systems, none of which really talk to each other and it's a right headache. So far we've looked at: OpenWorkbench - not enough features Basecamp - not enough features and too reliant on online MS Project - too expensive? Can anyone throw some other hats into the ring which maybe I've not heard about? Really interested to hear how other people have approached this, it's not an unusual business requirement! Thanks!

  • Multiple Schedule/Task Views (devs, customer, etc) in MS Project (or other)

    Is there a way to configure multiple views/filters in MS Project for the same set of tasks? I want to have a view that is configured for customer's only, for example. So, it would have large milestone tasks only, and hide all of the details that are there for the benefit of the team members. If MS Project doesn't do this, is there any project management software that does? A free/open source version would be preferable. Edit: Apparently, "filter" was the word I needed in my Google searches. I found how to mark a task as a Milestone and use the pre-made Milestone filter. However, that still doesn't hide non-Milestone tasks the way I want it to. I haven't figured out how to make a true custom filter.

My list of requirements: runs on standard LAMP stack non-hosted (ie, there is an option to download and run it on a local server) not a desktop/single-user application easy-to-use - my audience is a mix of technical and non-technical folks easy to maintain - when time for upgrading comes, I'd really like to not have to rebuild the app (a la ./configure ; make ; make install) needs to support multiple users free-form project additions: we don't have a central project management authority (users should be able to add whatever they're working on, not merely from a drop-down) Does anyone here have experience with such tools? It doesn't have to be free.. but free is always nice :)

  • Can Office Project Server 2010 handle issue tracking?

    I have a scenario where I want to be able to allow customers to login to a customer facing portal on the web, and log issues / bugs. Internal team members should then be notified via email and the issue should be logged in Project Server. The ticket status should be Open, until either resolved or close, where the customer will be notified via email. Is this possible to do using Microsoft Project Server 2010? The question could also be can customers submit bugs to office 2010 projects via a custom web form of some kind, and can project handle the back-end gracefully.

  • Project Server 2010 site creation - the database connection string is not available

    I am trying to get Project Server 2010 up and running on a Win Server 2008 box. I've got Sharepoint 2010 installed and Project Server 2010 installed. I open SharePoint Central Administration, then I go to Manage Service Applications Project Server Service Application. It looks like there is a site under the "Sharepoint - 80" section, but the Status says "Failed - see the Application event Log". When I click on the site and select "Retry" I get the same thing. In the event viewer, I see an error with SharePoint Foundation Search as the Source - it reads: Could not create a database session. Context: Application '276504a6-93b1-4c1f-a900-fd6ed9d5c117' Details: The database connection string is not available. (0xc0041228) How can I fix this? Is there some configuration I missed?

  • Textmate: Find and replace across project with contents of one file from said project

    I have a regular expression to find the text I want (I wrapped the relevant section in custom tags), and I can do it by hand without much issue, but what I want is a way to automatically find and replace throughout the entire project. A macro seems like an OK idea, but it would be nice to have a command (to edit and tweak). sed seems like a good bet, but I am pretty unfamiliar with it. I am not so much asking for a complete solution as I am asking for an example that does something close to what I want. I don't really know of a good way to start.
