• Subreports in Jasper Reports

  Hi all, I am using jasper reports - ireports. i need to create a subreport. i have a Master Reports-- which holds the subreport1 and subreport 2. Subreport 1 and 2 will have individual tables in its details band. So, while compiling master report through java class by filling it with custom datasource it has to print a single page with two table.. this is my task !! i need some more guidance to implement this ? i didnt get much tutorial for it to implement. • Problem with auto page break in iReport

  Hi... I'm using iReport 3.7. I have a report with two subreports (order details and some selling statistics), and a grouping by seller. One subreport is located in the Detail band of the group, and the other one is in the group footer. What's really odd is that no matter how long the report is, when I export it to PDF it's always one page long. Is there something I'm missing? Thanks in advance.

• Daubechies-4 Transform in MATLAB

  Hello: I have a 4x4 matrix which I wish to decompose into 4 frequency bands (LL, HL, LH, HH where L=low, H=high) by using a one-level Daubechies-4 wavelet transform. As a result of the transform, each band should contain 2x2 coefficients. How can I do this in MATLAB? I know that MATLAB has dbaux and dbwavf functions. However, I'm not sure how to use them and I also don't have the wavelet toolbox. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

• Invalidating ASP.NET FormsAuthentication server side

  I am experimenting with FormsAuthentication (using ASP.NET MVC2) and it is working fairly well. However, one case I can't work out how to deal with is validating the user identity on the server to ensure it is still valid from the server's perspective. eg. User logs in ... gets a cookie/ticket Out of band the user is deleted on the server side User makes a new request to the server. HttpContext.User.Identity.Name is set to the deleted user. I can detect this fine, but what is the correct way to handle it? Calling FormsAuthentication.SignOut in the OnAuthorization on OnActionExecuting events is too late to affect the current request. Alternatively I would like to be able to calls FormsAuthentication.InvalidateUser(...) when the user is deleted (or database recreated) to invalidate all tickets for a given (or all) users. But I can't find an API to do this.

• RockBand-like voice app for PC/OSX / Real time pitch display software

  I played Rock Band 2 for the first time a little while ago (at Notacon). One thing I enjoyed about it was getting real-time feedback about my singing. I think it'd be neat to have something like that to run alongside my usual music, so that I can sing to random stuff in my music collection and know when I'm hitting the notes. Is there something like this for PC - ideally for OSX, and ideally that can just operate on arbitrary songs? I don't really care if it's game-like (though that's neat too); I just want it for the singing feedback. And I have no need for pitch correction - ideally what I'd see is just the pitches of the notes in the music and (on the same scale, differently displayed) of the live microphone. I tried to STFW but got no salient hits. :-/ Thanks!

• Do you have a development IDE hotkey set in AutoHotkey?

  I've recently rejoined the AutoHotkey band wagon, and I've been setting up a master script for myself. Generally, I have a few global hotkeys, for doing things like popping open the calculator, and frequently used solutions. I even have a hotkey to restart certain local windows services, I've also got several contextual hotkeys that are only available when certain programs are active, but I don't have anything so far for my common IDE's. I generally develop in VS2008/2010 these days and they have a pretty robust shortcut and code snippet system. Still, I can't help but wonder if anyone out there has come up with a useful set of hotkeys/hotstrings in AutoHotKey for their favorite development environments? I haven't seen much out there, but I'm always interested in ways to cut back my mundane tasks with automation. Does anyone have any AutoHotkey scripts they use primarily for development?

• Problem in Report Design Layout

  Hi, I have a jasper report with 4 subreports in the detail band of the master report. If data is available for first subreport, it starts displaying from page 1 with the header of the subreport. When second subreport starts printing data, it prints only header in page 1 and the page breaks and in the page 2, it prints header again n data for that. I dont want the header of the second subreport to be printed in page1. It should start print in the page 2. How to solve this..? How could i page break...? its urgent.Please help.   Hello, I am planning to implement a basic recommendation system that uses Facebook Connect or similar social networking site API's to connect a users profile, based on tags do an analyze and by using the results, generate item recommendations on my e-commerce site(works similar to Amazon). I do believe I need to divide parts into such: Fetching social networking data via API's.(Indeed user allows this) Analyze these data and generate tokes. By using information tokens, do item recommendations on my e-commerce site. Ie: I am a fan of "The Strokes" band on my Facebook account, system analyze this and recommending me "The Strokes Live" CD. For any part(fetching data, doing recommendation based on tags...), what algorithm and method would you recommend/ is used ? Thanks

  I have a website that I am creating for a class project. The website shows information about bands (which is stored in a mysql database). I am trying to spruce up the site a bit, and I would like to embed a YouTube video based on the band's name. Say, for instance, I have "Led Zeppelin" stored in my database. How can I take a PHP variable containing "Led Zeppelin", search YouTube using that variable, find a random video, and then embed that in the website? From the research I've done, it seems you can only embed YouTube videos if you know the exact address of the video. Thanks!

• Prefered method for looping sound flash as3

  Hi there, I'm having some issues with looping a sound in flash AS3, in that when I tell the sound to loop I get a slight delay at the end/beginning of the audio. The audio is clipped correctly and will play without a gap on garage band. I know that there are issues with sound in general in flash, bugs with encodings and the inaccuracies with the SOUND_COMPLETE event (And Adobe should be embarrassed with their handling of these issues) I have tried to use the built in loop argument in the play method on the Sound class and also react on the SOUND_COMPLETE event, but both cause a delay. But has anyone come up with a technique for looping a sound without any noticeable gap?

• Trouble rendering a view inside a generic class

  The INSTALL_FAILED_INSUFFICIENT_STORAGE error is the bane of every Android developer's life. It happens regardless of app size, or how much storage is available. Rebooting the target device fixes the problem briefly, but it soon comes back. There are hundreds (if not thousands) of message board posts from people asking why the problem occurs, but the folks at Google are frustratingly silent on the issue. There is a simple workaround. If your test device is running Android 2.2 or later then add the android:installLocation attribute to your application's manifest file, with the value "preferExternal". This will force the app to be installed on the device's external storage, such as a phone's SD card. For example: <manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" package="com.andrewsmith.android.darkness" android:installLocation="preferExternal" This is more of a band-aid than a fix, and it may not be ideal if you want your finished app to install on the device's internal memory. But it will at least make the development process a lot less frustrating.

  I bought a responsive html5 template to create a website for my band. But I miss a page of tour dates, and would create a unique content, simple and quick to load on any device. I have the idea ready, something like buttons (months) to change on hover and when clicked, shows the dates and cities, all with transitions and fadein / fadeout. • Partial slideDown with jQuery

  I have some buttons that have drawer menus and what I'd like to do is add a state so that when the user hovers over the button, the drawer bumps out slightly (maybe with a little wiggle/rubber-banding) so that they know that there's a drawer with more information. I have the sliding working and a hover function set up, but I don't know how to implement a partial slideDown. Any ideas? FIDDLE. • Activating "pointer-events:none" only on section of image that overlaps

  I'm using pointer-events:none; on the main photograph at the top of my site http://www.onedirection.net/, to allow the user to select the navigation behind the image. However, I'd like to let the user click on each member of the band to go to a separate page, but ONLY for the parts of the image that don't overlap into the navigation. I'm a bit stuck with this. Can it be done? I was thinking of using an image map, but can't get it working without the navigation becoming "less clickable".

• Finding center of fingerprints.

  If we suppose that every fingerprint is made of concentric curves (ellipses or circles) - and I'm aware of the fact that not every fingerprint is - how can I find center of those concentric curves? Let's take this "ideal" fingerprint and try to find out its center ... My approaches were to try: Find the spectrum through columns/rows of the image and try to find columns/rows that maximize particular band of the spectrum. I thought that column going through the center would have most regular pattern of changing amplitudes - therefore, most recognizible harmonic. My second approach was to try to count the changes of black-and-white also through the columns and rows, and to maximize that amount among rows and columns also. While these methods work to the some extant, with some additional filtering, they fail, when fingerprint is "not ideal as this one is". Can you think of any different approach? Are there standard ways to do it?

• How to deal with time zones in a Rails app with events...

  I have a Rails app for bands. Bands can import their shows which all occur in different time zones. It seems like a ton of work to store these events in UTC. I would have to figure out the time zone for any show created and then convert back to the show's local time zone when displaying to the user. Is there a simple plugin to get a UTC offset based on geolocation? That would probably help, but does anyone see any major reasons why I should store in UTC here? I understand storing timestamps in UTC is probably a good idea...but band event times?

• ASP SaveToDisk method takes an incredible amount of time

  This is a method in ASP Classic that saves a file to disk. It takes a very long time but I'm not sure why. Normally, I wouldn't mind so much, but the files it handles are pretty large so need this needs to faster than 100kB a second save. Seriously slow. (old legacy system, band aid fix till it gets replaced...) • Mouse Error Code 24. Windows 7

  I've had the same mouse for a while, and it's been working fine until one day, it started giving me a message about a device not working properly. I tried updating the drivers, and re-installing, I even deleted old drivers in case my computer should be a little confused. It never made a difference, and my mouse seemed to be working just fine despite getting the permanent error in my device manager, I looked it up several times online, but I never found anything I could actually use, when I go to official websites, I always get the same response "plug in so so into a different place - drivers - install silverlight before you can watch this tutorial, try it on a different machine". so I gave up on that. But now is where I have a real problem, lately, my little strange error evolved into a fullblown Error 24, and my mouse is starting to turn on and off randomely, especially when it is being used, but I do hear it go "badum..dadum" when I'm off doing something else. when I looked up error code 24, I really didn't find much other than it meaning: Code 24 This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24) Cause The device is installed incorrectly. The problem could be a hardware failure, or a new driver might be needed. Devices stay in this state if they have been prepared for removal. After you remove the device, this error disappears. But, I have tried uninstalling the device entirely several times, and it'll go right back to its previous state with error 24, and turning on and off randomely. what do I do? I cannot afford taking it to a repair place, I can't really afford a new mouse either, I refuse to buy cheap ones as I am a gamer, in need of more than 3 buttons, and a good grip is important. Could there possibly be some confusion in the registry? I do remember having gotten some early problems after I converted my vista to windows7. But I hardly dare going in there unless I'm 100% certain of what I'm going for, and I can honestly say I am at a loss here. Edit: it is a USB mouse we're talking about here. • Looking for Your Next Challenge...Don't Stretch Too Far

  In my role as a Recruiter at Oracle I receive a large number of resumes of people who are interested in working with us. People contact me for a number of reasons, it can be about a specific role that we may be hiring for or they may send me an email asking if there are any suitable roles for them. Sometimes when I speak to people we have similar roles available to the roles that they may actually be in now. Sometimes people are interested in making this type of sideways move if their motivation to change jobs is not necessarily that they are looking for increased responsibility or career advancement (example: money, redundancy, work environment). However there are times when after walking through a specific role with a candidate that they may say to me - "You know that is very similar to the role that I am doing now. I would not want to move unless my next role presents me with the next challenge in my career". This is a far statement - if a person is looking to change jobs for the next step in their career they should be looking at suitable opportunities that will address their need. In this instance a sideways step will not really present any new challenges or responsibilities. The main change would be the company they are working for. Candidates looking for a new role because they are looking to move up the ladder should be looking for a role that offers them the next level of responsibility. I think the best job changes for people who are looking for career advancement are the roles that stretch someone outside of their comfort zone but do not stretch them so much that they can't cope with the added responsibilities and pressure. In my head I often think of this example in the same context of an elastic band - you can stretch it, but only so much before it snaps. That is what you should be looking for - to be stretched but not so much that you snap. If you are for example in an individual contributor role and would like to move into a management role - you may not be quite ready to take on a role that is managing a large workforce or requires significant people management experience. While your intentions may be right, your lack of management experience may fit you outside of the scope of search to be successful this type of role. In this example you can move from an individual contributor role to a management role but it may need to be managing a smaller team rather than a larger team. While you are trying to make this transition you can try to pick up some responsibilities in your current role that would give you the skills and experience you need for your next role. Never be afraid to put your hand up to help on a new project or piece of work. You never know when that newly gained experience may come in handy in your career. • Using Pandora in Boxee

  Boxee is a very cool multimedia app that lets you access and stream your digital media in many different ways. There’s also a lot of extra apps included with it, and today we take a look at the Pandora application in Boxee. Pandora has been a favorite free music streaming service that’s been around for some time now. Though there are new services like Grooveshark and Spotify that are competing, Pandora is still a reliable choice. It’s now included in Boxee, and here we take a look at using it. Create a Pandora Account If you don’t already have a Pandora account, you can easily create one at their website (link below). Pandora in Boxee To start using Pandora from Boxee, launch Boxee and from the main menu select Apps. Now from the My Apps section select Pandora. When the Pandora app menu comes up, select Start. Now you need to log into your Pandora account. After signing in you can starting listening to your stations, viewing artist info, and cover art. All while enjoying some cool visuals in the background. From the controls at the top you can control playback, skip songs, control volume, get information on why a song was picked, and give a song a thumbs up or down. Of course you can also pull up your stations and switch between them and add more. The same features you’ve come to expect from Pandora are available. One thing we noticed missing is not being able to click on the band or artist to get additional information about them –which you can do on the Pandora site and desktop app. But that isn’t a deal breaker by any means, and we’re hoping the feature will be added in the future. Then while you’re checking out other apps, shows, and setting within Boxee, the cool visuals continue and the songs from you stations keep playing. Conclusion Pandora is a great streaming music service and a welcome edition to Boxee. If you’re a fan of Pandora now you can listen to it on your home theater system.
