• How do I change the "Default" password

  hi, here's my problem. When I log in I'm beeing asked for a password connecting to the internet which is strange because I'm the only user and the admin. I have auto log in and it never asks for passwords, (except when i do administrative tasks.) I have looked in the menu (System -- preferences, but i can't find any topic that say's passwords or similar. the only place where I have found a way to change my password is my user ((System -- preferences -- user and groups). I did try to take screenshots but nothing happened, which also is strange. I'm running ubuntu 10.04 LTS Desktop on my Asus 1201n (12").

• How to install Radeon Open Source Driver in Ubuntu 12.04

  I have an MSI Radeon HD 7850 card. MSI provide no Linux support, and the AMD driver gives me an Unsupported Hardware watermark that does not show up in screenshots. I uninstalled the proprietary driver and found that Unity 3D no longer works, and I really only picked Ubuntu because of the excellent shortcuts provided in the recent versions. Trying to locate the open source driver has been a pain for me. According to the documentation I have read it is pre-included in Ubuntu 12.04, yet there is no Unity 3D support. I tried using the newest drivers from AMD's website, but that also had the watermark. Does anyone know how I can get the open source driver? If not, does anyone know how to remove the watermark. I'm on the verge of going back to Windows.

• How do I make the top panel transparent in Unity?

  I'm using a fresh install of Ubuntu 11.10 using Unity. I'm a newbie to Ubuntu and whilst researching various how-to's, I have seen screenshots where Ubuntu has the bar at the top of the screen shown transparent. I really like this, but I can't get it to do it on my box. I have tried CCSM (2 different methods), Ambience theme editing (a copy) but it always shows as black. I log out after each change and then log back in. Should I be restarting? I'm running: Asus P5Q Pro Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40GHz x4 GeForce 9600GT 32-bit OS 4x 1GB DDR2 RAM Modules (although BIOS only shows I'm using ~3GB)

  Yesterday we officially launched our new YouTube channel.  Today we are announcing another initiative that we have been working on for a while: to help you learn common customization tasks, we are going to publish a series of detailed How-To documents with lots of screenshots.  Many of these will also be the script for a YouTube video, giving you the choice to see it in action or go through the steps yourself guided by a PDF document. The focus of the initial set of How-Tos will be JDeveloper/ADF customizations, but over time we will expand into other areas.  Today's first document is meant to get everyone up to the point where a JDeveloper environment is up and running: a white paper that shows you how to set up JDeveloper, configure the integrated WLS domain, and make a very, very simple customization work. • Per fragment lighting with OpenGL 4.x tessellated model

  I'm experienced with OpenGL 3+. I'm dabbling with tessellation shaders and have now got to a point where I have a nicely tessellated teapot/plane demo (quick look here) As can be seen from the screenshots, the lighting is broken (though admittedly doesn't look too bad in the image) I've tried to add a normal map to the equation but it still doesn't come out right, I can calculate the normals, tangents and binormals per triangle in the geometry shader but still looks wrong. I think the question would be; How do I add per fragment lighting to a tessellated model? The teapot is 32 16-point patches, the plane is one single 16 point patch. The shaders are here, but they are a complete mess, so I don't blame anyone who cant make sense of them. But peruse at your leisure if you like. Also, if this question is more suited to be somewhere else i.e. Stack Overflow or the Programming stack please let me know.

• Why does Ubuntu's webkit inspector look just like Safari?

  In older Ubuntu, the python-webkit inspector looked like Chrome, as you can see in these screenshots: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/13132459 (It had some annoying bugs, too.) I see Midori's inspector also looks just like Safari, and still has some bugs. In the latest 14.04's python-webkit embedded browser, the inspector actually looks just like Safari - and also seems to still have bugs (icons missing, problems selecting). Is there a reason for this drastic change, or is it just a default configuration? Is there a recommended way to get the webkit-inspector fully working?

• Size mismatch error while downloading packages [closed]

  I've been having this annoying problem lately since I upgraded from Linux Mint 9 to Ubuntu 12.04. It started when I was installing VLC from the Ubuntu Software Centre a few weeks ago. I kept getting this error with packages with "Size mismatch". This happened with many other programs later on. I just got around it by downloading the packages separately and installing them that way. Now I get two updates for packages I installed in that manner. I tried changing from where I download the packages, it didn't change anything. If anyone can help me with my issue it would be splendid. • Cocos2D Command-Line Application

  Is it possible to create a terminal application which uses cocos2d? I've tried to make one using cocos2d 2.x, but it requires a MacGLView to be initialized. I need it so that I could program a terminal application that generates a screenshot given a TMX file and an optional preferred width or height parameter (for resizing). Then I can automate the generation of map previews for my game, instead of manually taking screenshots. It's not practical to load the actual TMX and resize it inside the game (what I'm currently doing), because each TMX file has 7 layers, my tile sheet is huge, and I have lots of levels.

• How to teach your users/customers to send better error descriptions

  I often have to deal with customers or users which are reporting errors in applications. Most of the time their content is something useless as ERROR!!! x does not work without much more information. For resolving the issue I have to request every single detail of them, which often is more time consuming than fixing the issue itself. Other send information in formats which are not ideal, like screenshots (of data records, not of errors) although they could send a link (we have access to the systems) and so on. How do you tell your users/customers to describe the problems with more details so that the whole process could be easier for both sides? edit This question is more about the social skills, than how to achieve programmatic collection of logs and error information. I'm aware of the fact that this should be part of good software design.

• How come ASUS sells Ubuntu installed 1225Cs, when we dont have drivers for gma3600?

  I recently purchased a ASUS 1225C cedar trail netbook. It didn't come preinstalled with Ubuntu like it comes in some markets. I installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on it. While Ubuntu works just fine, I am bothered by the lack of proper graphics support because of intel gma 3600. I am aware that this is not a problem of Ubuntu. My question is this: How does ASUS manage to sell these netbooks in other markets with Ubuntu preinstalled? How does ASUS manage to get everything to work? And if they can, why aren't I able to do the same? link: For more on Asus 1225C As you can see, they show Ubuntu working perfectly in the screenshots. Is this false advertising?

• Intuitive "Take Screenshot" key mapping used by games?

  I recently had a problem testing my game on Linux Ubuntu. The Print key is intercepted by the desktop environment and It never reaches the game. Rather than fighting this, I will simply use any other key or key combination to trigger the screen capture functionality. Now, using the PRINT key is very intuitive because people already expect this behavior. What other keys are a good idea to use to take screenshots? And if possible elaborate why, have other apps/games used that key?

• Ubuntu server upgrade 11.04 to 11.10 fails

  I'm actually trying to upgrade my Ubuntu 11.04 server to 12.04, but I have to go through 11.10 first, right? Well, do-release-upgrade is failing miserably. Here are some representative screenshots: Screenshot 1 Screenshot 2 Screenshot 3 Screenshot 4 And finally... Yeah. I found this question, which appears to have similar errors, but I've tried all of the suggestions given there and nothing has changed. I tried running apt-get dist-upgrade; it churned for a while and eventually came back with "Unable to fetch some archives, maybe run apt-get update or try with --fix-missing?" Ran apt-get update and got much the same kinds of error messages I got from do-release-upgrade. Any ideas/suggestions/solutions? Should I try downloading & upgrading from the CD instead? I'm glad to provide any further information I've forgotten.

Mainly, how has the detail view section of the split view been given a drop shadow and rounded corners, and for lack of better phrasing, how has it been "separated" from the master view (the default split view template has the master and detail view joined together with nothing but a vertical line separating the two)?

• Visual Studio 2010 blurry font

  I'm using Visual C# 2010 Express (final, not beta or anything) and I'm having an issue with blurry fonts while debugging. The font appears normal everywhere (intellisense, menus, code) but when a breakpoint is reached most of the debugger related text is blurry (Locals, Call Stack, "data tooltips").   I compiled Ogre on my Lubuntu 10.04 with LXDE environment, and when I try to start ./SampleBrowser_d from /bin i have incomplete window...it haven't got background, I can't click on accept and i can't choose OpenGL from avaible list..Anybody know what's it and how fix it ?
