converting a treebank of vertical trees to s-expressions

I need to preprocess a treebank corpus of sentences with parse trees. The input format is a vertical representation of trees, like so: S =NP ==(DT +def) the == (N +ani) man =VP ==V walks ...and I need it like: (S (NP (DT the) (N man)) (VP (V walks))) I have code that almost does it, but not quite. There's always a missing paren somewhere. Should I use a proper parser, maybe a CFG? Vertical Lines appearing rapidly on HP DV-1211tu screen

My laptop (HP DV-1211tu series) is more than 1 year old but was working fine. Then about couple of months back, there appeared ONE vertical line on my screen and I was told that I might have to change the screen!! So I ignored it and continued to work on my laptop. In the past week though there have been more lines appearing and its about 9 on last count. I am assuming this is a display problem but what do I do???? I can't afford a new screen. Safari/Chrome (Webkit) - Cannot hide iframe vertical scrollbar

Hello, I have an iframe on www.mydomain.com that points to support.mydomain.com (which is a CNAME to a foreign domain). I automatically resize the height of my iframe so that the frame will not need any scrollbars to display the contained webpage. On Firefox and IE this works great, there is no scrollbar since I use <iframe ... scrolling="no"></iframe>. However, on webkit browsers (Safari and Chrome), the vertical scrollbar persists even when there is sufficient room for the page without the scrollbar (the scrollbar is grayed out). How do I hide the scrollbar for webkit browsers? Thanks, Ken

I list products on my homepage and on a company details page. I use the exact same HTML, but for some reason the product appears different: The productname is "Artikel 1". How do i plot a vertical axis with variable intervals? on a Flex Chart. I want to plot a data set that has values from 0.1 to 800. When I use a standard Numerical Axis, I have to define a interval. I tried using Log-Axis, but I am not sure how to plot the point values. Looks like something in lines of semi-log axis would be better. A axis with initial values in Numerical, but later shifting gears to a Log-Axis. Any ideas or pointers to implement this in Flex?

Crystal Reports, alignment when printing

Hello, i have a report with 2 objects. a text object from left to right and a database field on top of this object. When I load the report in viewer(or print from viewer) it looks OK but when I print the report programmatically with ReportDocument.PrintToPrinter() the database field moves to to the left and as a result it print on the text object. Concatenate the text and database field is not an option. I've been playing around to see how my computer works under the hood. What I'm interested in is seeing is what happens on the stack inside a function. But the local variables are a bit wonky. My question is, why wouldn't these be the same? The second call seems to produce a more compact and better aligned stack. Looking at the ASM is unenlightening (at least to me), as the variable addresses are still aliased there. So I guess this is really a question about the assembler itself allocates the stack to local variables. I realise that any specific answer is likely to be platform specific. I'm more interested in a general explanation unless this quirk really is platform specific. For the record though, I'm compiling with VS2010 on a 64bit Intel machine.

Another Memory Alignment Question?

I understand why data need to be aligned (and all the efforts made to accomplish it like padding) so we can reduce the number of memory accesses but this assumes that processor just can fetch addresses multiples of 4(supposing we are using a 32-bit architecture). And because of that assumption we need to align memory and my question is why we can just access addresses multiple of 4(efficiency, hardware restriction, another one)? Which is the advantages of doing this? Why cannot we access all the addresses available? hugs
