    We have a SQL Server that has important databases for our clients, if the server goes down we want another server to be ready to be switched over (we would just change the IP). The question is, how can we automatically sync the primary SQL Server to the secondary one periodically through out the day? Or even in real time? Thanks!

  • Is auto-logon on laptop with encrypted hard drive secure?

    I have the complete hdd of my laptop encrypted (with the Windows built-in Bitlocker) and thus have to login two times upon booting (Bitlocker and user account). Since I'm the only person using the computer (and knowing the Bitlocker password), I was thinking about automatically login into the user account to make the boot process smoother and quicker. In which cases/scenarios is this a bad idea and the additional login gives a true additionally layer of security?

    I'm trying to use an old parallel-port based printer with a USB-to-parallel port adapter on Windows 7. When I plug it into the USB port on the computer it's listed as an unrecognized device. I know that these cables typically use the "USB Printing Support" driver with makes USB ports show up as printer ports in the printer dialog. Is there a way to manually add USB Printing Support to Windows 7, since it isn't being added automatically?

  • Failover Internet connection?

    Hi In my Linux server i have three network cards. The eth0 card is connected to ISP1, the eth1 card is connected to LAN and the eth3 card is connected to ISP2. What i want to do is to automatically use eth3 as Internet connection if the eth0 connection fails. How can this be done? Another problem is that my firewall is referring to eth0 as the server is doing NAT for clients this would be broken if eth3 is taken in use, how can this be solved?

  • How to filter RSOP to show only modified policies?

    Is it possible to view only those elements of GPO that are actually modified/specified? For example, when looking at RSOP for an OU, I have loads of options which are mostly not specified - can I automatically filter it to show only e.g. that it doesn't allow to use control panel or install software, instead of looking through all options?     I understand I'll need to re-install all the applications, but will upgrading from Windows XP (32 bit) to Windows 7 (64 bit) automatically format my hard drive removing out all my stuff? Or I'll just need to install all the appls but my files (like pictures and documents) will remain on that hard drive? (Trying to figure out if I really need to get 500GB spare space anywhere to copy my data temporarily to.)

  • Windows share mounted on Linux fails after some time

    I have a Windows share mounted on a Linux server (RHEL4) using a mount command like this: mount -t smbfs //server_ip/foldername /servername/foldername -o username=USERNAME,password=PASSWORD -o gid=users,dmask=777,fmask=777,rw,noatime It stays working for weeks at a time but sometimes stops working, at which time I unmount it and mount it again. This works but the share would have been unavailable for some time before I noticed it in log files. Is there some way that the share can be automatically remounted when it fails?

    I'm running kubuntu 9.10 and every time I log in auto eth0 is used instead of my custom connection called "batnet". I have batnet set to automatically connect, but despite this it is ignored and the default auto eth0 is used instead. This would be fine IF I could somehow figure out how to define a static ip for auto eth0. I would prefer to just make the 'batnet' connection default. How can I do this?

I can run it manually and copy/paste will work just fine, but I have no idea why it won't start automatically.     I'm not even sure if this is possible with Outlook's current rule set but I thought I'd ask. I'd like emails that meet certain characteristics to automatically be moved from my inbox after they are a day old. I get a lot of notification emails that I end up having to remove the next day manually since I get new ones to replace them each day. So a rule would be like: If the email is from [email protected] and older then 1 day move to already read folder.

  • How to prevent MediaWiki removing non default signatures?

    We recently upgraded MediaWiki from 1.13.2 to 1.15.4. One of the side effects is that people's signatures are automatically deleted. That is, a signature added under MY PREFERENCES gets changed to match the Real Name field after a couple of minutes. We set $wgCleanSignatures = false in LocalSettings.php but this does not change the behaviour. Does anyone know what is going on and how to prevent this?

    I'm trying to prevent people from modifying (most) of my spreadsheet while still alowing them to use the sort function of the AutoFilter. What I've done so far is used the Worksheet_Change event and Application.Undo to automatically undo any values entered into cells that I don't want to be modified. This works great, except that it can't detect changes in formatting. Does anyone know of a means to trigger an event when the format (text/background color) of a cell is changed? Thanks!

    I'm considering upgrade from Postgres 8.3.3 to 8.4.2 on my machine (it has Windows Vista). Windows Installer (one click installer) for Postgres 8.4.2 that can be downloaded from enterprisedb.com offers only fresh install (it does not recognizes my current installation of v8.3.3). Is it possible to upgrade with all existing databases converted and visible (automatically migrated?) in new version just after upgrade? Or I have to do something more - backup/restore all my databases manually?
