• On MySQL 5.1 for Windows, why can't I assign DBA role to the "root" user?

  On MySQL 5.1 for Windows, why can't I assign DBA role to "root" user? The MySQL Workbench allows me to add all the other roles except for DBA. Also, when I "alter schema" on any table, while logged in as root, I dont see all the tabs that show me all the database properties... I only see the first tab that allows me to change collation only. What is wrong with this picture? How do i give root all priveleges? I've tried a few variations of GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES etc. from the command line but nothing works. My root account is unable to alter column names, indexes, or options of any given table that I create. I can create tables and delete them but I can't alter them.

  Hello. As you know, even if it is possible to start httpd in worker mode under CentOS/RedHat, php in default rpm repo is not thread-safe. And the default configuration for stability is mpm_prefork. So, two questions: Is there PHP accelerator capable of working in mpm_prefork mode (using shm or whatever)? If there is none, what can be done to improve PHP speed on CentOS/RedHat systems (I want to use rpms, preferably from default CentOS repo; building custom PHP from source code is not a good option for me)

• Windows 8 Media Center Pack Install Fails with DoTransmogrify failed due to error 0x80070011

  When I attempt to use Add Features to install the Windows 8 Media Center pack I get the "Something Went Wrong" Message Checking %localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Anytime Upgrade\Upgrade.log I can see the following error block 2012-10-27 18:43:13, Error WAU DoTransmogrify failed due to error 0x80070011. 2012-10-27 18:43:13, Error WAU UpgradeSKU failed. Exiting. 2012-10-27 18:43:13, Error WAU The worker process exited unexpectedly 2012-10-27 18:43:13, Error WAU Something went wrong 2012-10-27 18:43:13, Error WAU Close this wizard and try again. My understanding is that 0x80070011 means Error_Not_Same_Device. I think this may be related to the fact that C:\Users is a junction point to D:\Users Do I have to move my users directory back? Is there a workaround?

  Maybe a little more of the same questions that others have asked but wanted to clarify my doubt, for some years run my hosting company (reseller of esds) and I've done well so far, but I am determined to bring quality and server technology to offer another level. So far I have understood that there is a difference between cloud and cluster servers because the cluster function as load balancers that distribute in different servers roles and use the servers less overloaded in the cloud is the union of multiple servers and then the same is vitualized unlike the cluster that is allowed to use the resources of the CPU and RAM servers in the virtualized environment. My approach is to use 3 dedicated servers to create a cloud server, My doubts: Does this type of cloud servers are only reserved for big companies? (Either because the union of the servers is done by hardware or software with high price) What characteristics should these servers meet? Possibly through software which should be used? Available? • Change my MX record on my server to google MX?

  Hi. I got a windows server 2008 where I host a site, now I decided to have the email on google apps. I did add the MX records I get from them to my DNS settings on the server but with no luck. I recently started doing server stuff so I did like this. Server Manager / Roles / DNS Server / DNS / SERVERNAME / MYDOMAIN / Forward Lookup / New MX Host or child domain: What goes here? FQDN: here is my domain name, i think because I named the ns my domain? FQDN MX: here is the google MX record I got from them MSP: 10 I have no Idea where I go wrong but I thought I would ask you guys if any of you can maybe give me some tips on what to look for or any newbee mistake I do that you see from this little info. Session-based desktop deployment : Session-based desktop deployment allows users to connect to session collections that include published RemoteApp programs and session-based desktops. Although this seems intuitive now, if I continue with "Virtual machine-based desktop deployment" I later have another two options when creating a collection: Pooled virtual desktop collection Personal virtual desktop collection This is where my confusion lies. What is the differences between a Session-based deployment and Virtual machine-based deployment with Personal virtual desktop collections? • Is the Realtek network driver on Windows Update fixed yet?

  Months ago i was experiencing problems with my networking, and was hoping the updated Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20) driver available from Microsoft on Windows Update would fix the problems. Instead, after the reboot, the network device failed to start, and the driver had to be rolled back. I'm not the only person to get this problem, it even was dealt with by a superuser. A co-worker experienced the exact same problem, and we independently came up with the same solution: hide the updated driver in Windows Update. So I've continued to have my network troubles, and i still need an updated driver. Is the version of the Realtek driver on Windows Update fixed yet? i know Microsoft never pulled it down, but maybe it's been up-updated. i really don't want to find out by downloading it. Can someone else confirm that it's no longer broken - or can someone else be my guinea pig?

  I would like to setup a machine with Windows Server 2008 R2 Server Core and install following server roles: Active Directory Domain Services Active Directory Federation Services Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services (I'm not sure whether I actually need this one - see note below) I'm obviously going to install Enterprise Edition. Question Can I have an AD administration graphical user interface to manage Active Directory on Server Core machine? I would really like to have it, because I'm not so keen to do stuff using power-shell, because I've never managed AD as well, so a GUI would be much more helpful, because I could at least visualize it a bit better and maybe understand AD structures. Note: I'm setting up development environment machine as well and installing Sharepoint Foundation 2010 on in so it would use this AD machine.

• cannot add a user to sysadmin role in SQL Server

  I am using SQL Server 2008 Management Studio. The current logon account belongs to machine local administrator group. I am using Windows Integrated Security mode in SQL Server 2008. My issue is, after log into SQL Server Management Studio, I select my login name under Security/Logins, then select Server Roles Tab, then select the last item -- sysadmin to make myself belong to this group/role, but it says I do not have enough permission. Any ideas what is wrong? I think local administrator should be able to do anything. :-)

• Arch Linux with an nginx/django setup refuses to display ANYTHING

  I'm on Amazon Ec2, with an Arch Linux server. While I truly am loving it, I'm having the issue of actually getting nginx to display anything. Everytime I try to throw my hostname into the browser, the browser states that it's not available for some reason - almost as if the host doesn't even exist. One thing I'd like to know is, how can I get this up and running? Is there a specific arch linux configuration I have to do to make it web accessible? I have port 80 open, as well as port 22. I've tried using gunicorn, python-flup, and nginx. The thing is that Django itself is working fine, and my permissions to the document root of the where the site files are stored is 777. Ontop of that, I have a git repo which works perfectly fine, and django, python, and runfcgi all start without issues. The same goes for gunicorn, when I do a gunicorn_django -b 0.0.0.0:8000 in my document root. • Domain connection shows as "unauthenticated"

  I have seen various different questions for this problem floating around but either the circumstances arent the same or the solution doesnt work so thought i would post it to see if anybody has any suggestions. Various domain PCs and laptops appear to randomly give the connection name of "lewis.local 2(Unauthenticated)" - lewis.local being our domain - and provides an exclamation mark where the network type logo is normally shown. This also appears to happen every time connecting via vpn. Our setup is: 2 servers both running windows server 2003 R2 (x32) main server has AD, DNS and DHCP installed IPv4 on approx 30 client machines (some wired, some wireless) If anybody has any thoughts on solutions i would appreciate it. I have tried removing all but AD server roles, resetting all of the systems and nothing. It doesnt prevent anything from working just like a domain connection most of the time however it is getting fustrating! Also dont know if it could have anything to do with it but the DHCP server seems to have quite a long lead time on issuing the IP address to the client.

  In my setup of Apache 2.2 MPM worker and Django 1.3 with mod_wsgi 2.8, I need to support large POST request payloads. The problem is that when there are many such simultaneous requests, Apache uses up all the memory in the system and then crashes. It seems that Apache is buffering the requests completely in memory before executing the WSGI handler and passing it the request. Is there any way to control request buffering in Apache? • Outlook 2010 corrupts all Office attachments on a Server 2008R2 Remote Desktop Server

  I have a rather annoying problem with a clients new Remote Desktop server. The problem is that any and all Office attachments (tested with Word and Excel documents) sent to the users via email cannot be opened due to the file seemingly being corrupted/damaged. I have determined that it is a local problem on the server, as the attachments work fine on my own pc. Also I believe the problem is isolated to Outlook, as the users can open already stored Office files without any issues. What are your thoughts on this? Extra information: The server is running Microsoft Server 2008 R2. The Office is a version 2010. It is handeling the roles of AD and RDS - The client only has one server, hence the breach of best practise. There is currently no AV software on the server. I have tried running a repair as well as a reinstalling of Office, with the error still there.

But, does that use up an Apache thread/process per request? In my setup, I've noticed that all my processes are used up, even though they aren't doing anything, CPU wise. To free up apache processes, I've configured lighttpd and the amount of processes needed is lowered significantly, Munin shows. However, I've set it up to connect directly to lighty, to prevent apache workers from server static media. My question is: when using Apache Proxy, does that also use up a process/worker?

• Apache 2.2.16 + PHP 5.2.14 sometimes causes Apache to not stop properly

  Sometimes, Apache decides not to shut down nicely. killall apache2 or kill -9 (apache2 PID here) shuts it down so that it can actually start back up without the port being in use. Other posts seem to indicate that PHP 5.2 might have issues hanging up Apache. I'm using the worker MPM on an x86_64 Gentoo Linux system if that helps. Any other things I should consider hanging up Apache besides PHP? Should I be stopping Apache with /etc/init.d/apache2 gracefulstop instead of /etc/init.d/apache2 stop?

  I have a co-worker who insists that he will never buy a book unless it is considered "THE" book. So, in this vein, I thought I'd ask what the ultimate Linux book is. I wouldn't quite call myself a complete beginner since I can get around in Linux in general pretty well. But, beyond that, I'm also looking for a book with an eye towards becoming a Sys Admin someday. I saw a Junior Sys Admin position open up recently but with the requisite 2-3 years experience, I may have to wait a little while longer before I'm ready to apply for such a position. Having said all that, I'll summarize my question: What is the ultimate Linux book for someone who is ok with the basic tasks of getting around in Linux but also wants to aim towards full Sys Admin status someday? • Windows 2008 DHCP service fails - "...failed to see a directory server for authorization."

  I have a small environment running Windows 2008 R2 where the DHCP service on the domain controller fails every two weeks. The most-visible error is Event ID 1059 and the Event Viewer message is: "The DHCP service failed to see a directory server for authorization." The setup features two domain controller and the usual services and roles (file, print, Exchange). Restarting the service fails for a variety of reasons. I've had the following messages at different times: "Not enough storage is available to complete this operation". "Unable to determine the DHCP Server version for the Server 192.168.x.x" "The DHCP service has detected that it is running on a DC and has no credentials configured for use with Dynamic DNS registrations initiated by the DHCP service." A reboot of the domain controller resolves the issue for ~2 weeks. The systems are virtualized and there are no network connectivity issues. Any ideas what's happening here?

• mod_jk fails to detect error state because JBoss gives 404, not 500

  Configuration: Apache + mod_jk, several workers on other machines (load balancing). When JBoss fails to deploy an application for example because of failed connection to the database, requests to /myapp/somepage generate 404. How do I configure JBoss to return 500 for everything under /myapp when the application failed to deploy? Additional info: Since 404 is not an "error state" code, mod_jk does not mark the worker as failed and continues to route the traffic there. Since there might be valid requests to this application also generating 404, I can not configure mod_jk to treat 404 as an "error state"

  Hi Everyone, I'm looking for scheduling software to schedule 25 people over 8 work sites. Most are FT and can work up to 40 hours a week, but some are part-time and can only work certain days of the week and up to a certain number of hours a week. There are 3 classes of employees: Managers, Supervisors, and Workers. They should be shuffled so that they spend approximately equal time at each of the 8 work sites and with all classes of employees; i.e., Joe the worker should spend about 1 out of 8 days on each work site, and work with managers, supervisors, and other workers equally. I tried to do this in excel with the solver, but the shuffling requirement makes it way too complicated, so I'm stuck trying to do big parts of this manually with the solver helping out with just the hour provisioning piece. Is there any open source software that could help me? Much appreciated! KA
