• PHP: report table with date gaps

  Hi. I have a table in DB which contains summaries for days. Some days may not have the values. I need to display table with results where each column is a day from user selected range. I've tried to play with timestamp (end_date - start_date / 86400 - how many days in report, then use DATEDIFF(row_date, 'user_entered_start_date') and create array from this indexes), but now I've got whole bunch of workarounds for summer time :( Any examples or ideas how to make this correct? P.S. I need to do this on PHP side, because DB is highly loaded.

• Why is this consider bad practice? or is it? (ASP.Net)

  Would this code be considered bad practice: <div id="sidebar"> <% =DisplayMeetings(12) %> </div> This is a snippet of code from the default.aspx of a small web app I have worked on. It works perfectly well, runs very fast, but as always, I am aware of the fact that just because it works, doesn't mean it is OK. Basically, the DisplayMeetings subroutine outputs a bunch of formatted HTML (an unordered list actually), with no formatting, just the requisite html, and then my CSS performs all the necessary formatting. The data for generating the list comes from an SQL server database (the parameter controls how many rows to return) and I am using stored procedures and datareader for fast access. This keeps my front-end extraordinary simple and clean, imho, and lets me do all the work in VB or C# in a separate module. I could of course use a databound repeater (and probably 6 or more other methods) of accomplishing the same thing, but are they any better? Other than loosing the design-time features of VS2010?

I tried variants of a but i only get all the links or none.   Hello Friends, I am writing one simple web page with bunch of textboxes and a button control. Now when user finished editing the values on this text boxes user has to click the button and this button invoke heavily process intensive algorithm on server side code based on the data received from client (Textboxes) And it could some time takes up to 30 to 45 minutes to complete the whole operation so the current thread is still inside the button click event handler function. That background task only provides one event, and the web page subscribes to it to get some text data after each stage of processing I was wandering if there is any way I can keep user up-to-date with what is the current progress on that background task. I have div element to print the current status information So I am looking for some sort of reverse mechanism then "get" and "post". I have read some articles on the Comet (programming) but I can't find any easy or definitive answer Thanks in advance

• MVC2 JSON action, if I want to be RESTful should I allow GET, POST, or Both?

  The project I'm currently working has a whole bunch of JSON actions in order to populate cascading dropdowns via ajax calls. Since they're technically Select queries and we're trying to be RESTful, we've been marking these actions with the HttpGet attributes. However by default, JsonResultdoes not allow to return results via a GET. So we've had to explicitly call Json(data, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet). What I'm wondering is, is this bad practice? Should we only be allowing Post requests to our Json actions? If it makes a difference, this is an enterprise application, that requires a log in to a particular environment before it can be accessed.

• Testing what a String token holds

  I am making a calculator and part of this program takes in user String input and tokenizes it (using my own implementation of a Tokenizer class). So now I have a bunch of Token objects and I would like to test each one of them to see if they hold numbers or operators. Is there a way to test to see if they hold operators (ie. +, -, *, /, =, (, ), etc.) without using if (token.equals("+") || token.equals("-") || ... and so on, for each operator? These Token objects are all of type String.

• Map a property in the entity framework to a different type

  I have a SQL Server 2008 database. I have a bunch of fields in TableA that are just strings that corresponds to booleans. So every value is either true or false. The edmx I generated using Entity Framework 4.0 has them as strings. This is technically correct but I would like to have them mapped as Booleans instead. Is this possible? If so how can I accomplish this? Thanks much!

  Hi everyone, I use git for my local work (and love it ever so much), and I follow a workflow similar to the one described in this article. So basically, when starting on a new feature, I create a branch for it, go through the usual hack then commit cycle, and when I think I'm done with it, I squash it into a single commit using git rebase --interactive master, and these squashed commit messages always end up looking like the example in the article, reproduced here: [#3275] User Can Add A Comment To a Post * Adding Comment model, migrations, spec * Adding Comment controller, helper, spec * Adding Comment relationship with Post * Comment belongs to a User * Comment form on Post show page Of course, that's after a bunch of removing # This is the xth commit message lines and copy/pasting * in front of each commit message. Now, what I was wondering, is there any way to customize how git rebase -i outputs the merged commit messages so I don't have to do all that hacking? (I use msysgit, if that matters.) Thanks!

  I would like to be able to get the name of a variable as a string but I don't know if Python has that much introspection capabilities.   Ok here's the deal I got one table with a bunch of client information. Each client makes up to one purchase a year which is represented by an individual row. there's a column for the year and there's a column the contains a unique identifier for each client. What I need to do is to construct a query that takes last year and this year and shows me which clients were here made a purchase last year but not make a purchase this year. I also need to build a query that shows me which clients did not make a purchase last year and the year before last but did make a purchase this year.

• Mouse Events lost on zoom in silverlight

  Hi All, I'm running into an issue where I seem to be losing mouse events. Essentially I have a grid with a bunch of controls that get refreshed (removed/re-added via Grid.Children.Clear and Grid.Children.Add(control) ) via a WCF_Service. If I zoom in to a part of the grid where no control exists, I'm unable to zoom out. I have implemented zoom to mouse position but have logic to ensure the coordinates of the grid are never beyond the window of screen. (Eg: Grid.ActualWidth must be 0 and Translate.X must be < Grid.ActualWidth - 200) I have also experienced this where I can still see a section of one of the controls, but it still is not able to zoom out (unless I'm over the control). Appreciate any and all help.

  Hello! I'm doing some Delphi (2010) work this summer, and I've stumbled upon this problem: My project consists of reusable backend library and a bunch of GUIs that tap into its interface. In this circumstances I've decided to make the backend and GUIs separate projects within single project group (I hope my train of thought is correct). The problem is, how can I include units from the backend in a GUI project? I've tried to modify Project Options > Directories and Conditionals but compiler still complains about being unable to find proper .dcu's. Any ideas? Your help will be appreciated.

  Hi everyone I am new to mongo, this is my db design: product := { name: str group: ref, comments: [ ref, ref, ref, ref ] } comments := { ... a bunch of comments stuff } tag := { _id: int, #Need this for online requests tag: str, products: [ {product: ref, score: float}, ... ], comments: [ {comment: ref, score: float}, ...], } So my usage pattern is: GIVEN a product, find comments that have certain tag and sort them accordingly. My current approach involves: Look for that tag object that has tag=myTag pull all the comments out, sorted look for that product where product.name=myProduct pull all the comments out (which are dbrefs by the way) loop through the result of 2, and checking if they are in 4, (this I can do a limit 10) etc. It's pretty inefficient. Any better methods?

  I have a column within which are multiple 'records' (each a div). Each record has a bunch of fields (each a span whose id is the fieldname). I want to allow the user to sort all the records based on a field. I also want, the field that has been sorted to be moved to the beginning of the record. So I came up with this. But its really slow for a large sets. Not sure whats the best way to do this. • Python: UTF-8 problems (again...)

  I have a database which is synchronized against an external web source twice a day. This web source contains a bunch of entries, which have names and some extra information about these names. Some of these names are silly and I want to rename them when inserting them into my own database. To rename these silly names, I have a standard dictionary as such: RENAME_TABLE = { "Wsird" : "Weird", ... } As you can see, this is where UTF-8 comes into play. This is the function which performs renaming of all the problematic entries: def rename_all_entries(): all_keys = RENAME_TABLE.keys() entries = Entry.objects.filter(name__in=all_keys) for entry in entries: entry.name = RENAME_TABLE[entry.name] entry.save() So it tries to find the old name in RENAME_TABLE and renames the entry if found. However, I get a KeyError exception when using RENAME_TABLE[entry.name]. Now I'm lost, what do I do? I have... # -*- coding: utf-8 -*- ...in the top of the Python file.

• Xcode can't find imported header files

  I've used other IDE's in the past but am new to Xcode. I'm trying to bring in a bunch of C code from an open source project. I've imported them into a new Group and the .c files all show up under Implementation Files and the full list of files shows up in the Groups/Files group as well as my project directory in the finder. When I try to include or import one of these header files, code completion even works so I know Xcode is seeing them. But then when I go to build it says "no such file or directory". How can I get these files to import into my code?

• Highlighting text in a textbox using Javascript

  Hi, I have an ASP.NET 2.0 webapp (with C#). I wanted to add a button which, when clicked would highlight selected text. By 'highlight', I mean change the CSS properties of the text so that it can stand out. I think this can be done with some clientside JavaScript. I know that you can assign a Javascript function to the onclick event of an HTML input button, but since I'm not very proficient at JS the function itself I have no idea how to write...   I am trying to get the output of android shell command 'getprop' with java since getprop() always returns null no matter what. • Rails view error "invalid byte sequence in US-ASCII" error after upgrading Ruby to 1.9.2

  Running Rails 2.3.9 and just upgraded to Ruby 1.9.2p0. I have been putting: # encoding: utf-8 in a bunch of my .rb files where ever "£" character is used, and this seems to be working. But i just got my first view error: invalid byte sequence in US-ASCI for this line of code: <%= number_to_currency(product.price, :unit => "£", :precision => 0) %> I don't think its a coincidence that the "£" character is involved again. Any ideas on how to solve this please? Thanks

• Can the Browser 'Forward' Button be Set from HTML?

  Example: At the bottom of the StackOver Questions page are a bunch of page numbers (1,2,3...), enclosed in a set of prev and next buttons. Clicking next repeatedly will bring me to, say page 5, at which point I will have: The page's prev button will be set to 'http://stackoverflow.com/questions?page=4' The Back button on my Browser will have the same value. The page's next button will be set to 'http://stackoverflow.com/questions?page=6' The Forward button on my Browser - won't be set to anything. Obviously, if I hit the Back button on the Browser, then Forward will have a value, pointing to the URL for page 5 - but not otherwise. Is there any way, from HTML (plus Javascript), to set the value of the Browser's Forward button? Or is this one of those things that HTML is simply forbidden to do?

  Could you please explain why the shell redirection doesn't work with System.Diagnostics.Process class? I am trying to redirect the output streams to file with the following snippet: Process p = new Process(); p.StartInfo = new ProcessStartInfo(); p.StartInfo.FileName = "java.exe"; p.StartInfo.Arguments = @"> c:\Temp\test.log 2>&1"; p.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = true; p.Start(); The similar code works without problems with Python. Reading the output streams programmatically doesn't seem a preferable solution in my case because there will be a bunch of processes launched by my application.

This is because the div hit its max width of 300px and then wrapped the b's to a 2nd line. The wrapping is good, but then I would expect the div to then shrink back down to the width of the a's so that there's no empty space to the right. Is it possible to get it to do this? Tested in Chrome and FF.

• inputMismatchException Java reading doubles from plain text file

  Using double variable = inputFile.nextDouble(); Gives the mismatch error and I can't figure out why... Anyone know what's up? The input file is just a bunch of doubles like 5.0... Okay here is the code snippet String fileName; Scanner scanner = new Scanner(System.in); System.out.println("\nEnter file name that contains the matrix and vector: "); fileName = scanner.nextLine(); Scanner inputFile = new Scanner(fileName); double a1 = inputFile.nextDouble(); the input file is a plain text document .txt in this format 5.0 4.0 -3.0 4.0 2.0 5.0 6.0 5.0 -2.0 -13.0 4.0 12.0 I don't understand why it wouldn't take those as doubles... As far as what its expecting the format of the file to be... I suppose binary? isn't that the default? I didn't specify in the code...
