• VirtualBox error 0x80004005

  Hi I was trying to run Windows XP under Virtual Box (host system Ubuntu 10.04) and I've got an error message saying: Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908) The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. Re-setup the kernel module by executing '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' as root. Users of Ubuntu, Fedora or Mandriva should install the DKMS package first. This package keeps track of Linux kernel changes and recompiles the vboxdrv kernel module if necessary. This is terminal output: maria@maria-laptop:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup * Stopping VirtualBox kernel modules * done. * Uninstalling old VirtualBox DKMS kernel modules * done. * Trying to register the VirtualBox kernel modules using DKMS * Failed, trying without DKMS * Recompiling VirtualBox kernel modules * done. * Starting VirtualBox kernel modules * done. After that I can run XP on Virtual Box, but when I try to log into user's account, I have the message that I have to register XP (I haven't done it yet, as each time I was cliking on pop-up window suggesting registration, nothing was happening). I click that I want to register it now and appears the message about error 0x80004005, which prevents Windows to check the license for that computer (the message is in Polish, so I don't post it here...). I forgot to install DKMS first, but I've done it after. What should I do to run virtual machine? It was using it already, the problem occured only today. Thanks for any suggestion

• How to temporarily replace one primitive type with another when compiling to different targets in c#

  How to easily/quickly replace float's for doubles (for example) for compiling to two different targets using these two particular choices of primitive types? Discussion: I have a large amount of c# code under development that I need to compile to alternatively use float, double or decimals depending on the use case of the target assembly. Using something like “class MYNumber : Double” so that it is only necessary to change one line of code does not work as Double is sealed, and obviously there is no #define in C#. Peppering the code with #if #else statements is also not an option, there is just too much supporting Math operators/related code using these particular primitive types. I am at a loss on how to do this apparently simple task, thanks! Edit: Just a quick comment in relation to boxing mentioned in Kyles reply: Unfortunately I need to avoid boxing, mainly since float's are being chosen when maximum speed is required, and decimals when maximum accuracy is the priority (and taking the 20x+ performance hit is acceptable). Boxing would probably rules out decimals as a valid choice and defeat the purpose somewhat.   I am changing my domain from foo.com to foobar.org. I used a Redirect permanent in my apache config file, and then restarted apache. When I try to access the old domain foo.com, I get a 403 error.   When attempting to run the BizTalk Server Pipeline Component Wizard for the first time I encountered an error that prevented the creation of the pipeline component project: System.ArgumentException : Value does not fall withing the expected range  I found the solution for this error in a couple of places, first a reference to the issue on the Codeplex Project and then a fuller description on a blog referring to the BizTalk 2006 implementation. • Synaptics error "no touchpad found" at startup on HP laptop

  I know there are a lot of topics on the synaptics touchpad not working, but I can't seem to find the answer to my problem anywhere. Please forgive me if I missed it. Here is what happened. After using the "ambient light" F11 key on my HP laptop (Compaq nc8430), the touchpad was disabled and I couldn't get it to work. Then I found this thread : "Synaptic touchpad on laptop not working". And Salem's answer totally solved my problem, both for the session fix and for the permanent fix. But since then, after each reboot I get the same error pop-up, with the following content: No touchpad found. No touchpad was found in this system. If the system has a touchpad, please make sure that the synaptics driver is properly installed and configured. If your touchpad is not found, though the driver is installed and configured correctly, please compile detailed information about your touchpad hardware and report this issue to the issue tracker. Needless to say, the driver is indeed installed, activated and configured (even though it's kind of useless now, since I guess the .conf file I created is doing all the work). I know it's a minor issue, because the touchpad does work properly, but it's getting really annoying... So, could anyone please help me fix this error pop-up problem ? Thank you !

• winusb formatting and installation error, lost data storage on 32gb flash drive

  i recently purchased a pny brand 32gb usb drive to use for configuring a dual boot on my computer, and for hdd files backup. i also recently installed zorin os 6.1 as my main os, and then downloaded winusb for linux, and set it to install the iso for windows 8 release preview as the activation code is still good untill jan.2013, and there was an error on the installation. i rebooted the computer, plugged in the usb drive, and i went from 32gb usable space to somehow having a partitioned drive (mounted as two separate drives) one being 3.7gb, and the other being i believe 25gb or so... i then formatted the drive with gparted back to fat32, and it still read as a windows usb with the installation files on it still? so then i took my usb drive to my library which runs windows 8, i installed bootice, and completely reformatted my usb drive, and somehow it is usable, but still not perfect. it reads i only have 29.9gb usable space... i have already thought of the non usable area, and that doesnt account for this error as when i first bought the drive and plugged it in on linux, it read total drive space was 32.2 and exactly 32 was usable. somehow i am short by 2gb of space which is very critical for what i am doing. i love linux, i only needed windows for bluray playback with daplayer as it wont work well in wine, but if i keep losing space on my usb drives im afraid ill have to switch back. any help would be appreciated as i already visited pny's site, and they have no support for this issue, and im not that fond of partitions, file systems, or formatting.

• Persistent "held broken packages" error

• Error when restarting computer after successful Ubuntu 12.10 installation

  I was having a lot of sudden issues with my computer (slow on start up progressing quickly to not being able to start ...even in safe mode). Worked on several different things. Finally tried formatting hd and then installing Windows 7. Got errors so I said screw it and tried Ubuntu. Downloaded it (via my laptop), burned on DVD, and tried a disc boot on my desktop. Went through the whole installation, said it was successful and progressed to the restart. It stopped at a screen with an error (0x1b5a6) from 'hd0' I don't remember the error code verbatim. Now when I try restarting it I get to the initial page, hit 'enter' on Ubuntu..and it just sits at a blank screen. Eventually it runs through this screen with a bunch of code and then just sits there. I can't type anything and enter does nothing. Some things on the screen are: Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block (0,0) I don't know what else to do... Restarting does not work. I have been working on fixing my computer for almost 2 days straight...

• Wubi shows error

  I tried installing Ubuntu 12.04 using Wubi and it just doesn't work, every time, without fail. I had the following scenarios: 1. I downloaded only wubi.exe and ran it. The wubi installer started downloading the amd64.iso using torrent. But when there were just about 40 secs left to download, it shows an error 404: File not found. 2. I downloaded the iso file seperately and put it in the same folder as the wubi.exe. Now there are two cases: a. Offline: wubi says it could not download the metalinks file and hence cannot download the iso. So I download the meta files separately and place them in the same directory. wubi shows the same error again. b. Online: wubi works in same way as in case 1. and the same problem occurs as in case 1. In short wubi doesn't recognize the already downloaded iso in the directory at all. 3. I burn the iso into a Cd and run it. The same thing occurs as in Case 2. Just in case that you know, I installed SP3 for win XP just before using wubi. While Windows is running alright, is it possible that its causing conflicts for wubi?

• "Failed to create swap space" error during installation

  I've been trying to install Ubuntu for the past two days or so, but I've been running into a problem: every time I run the installation program on the LiveCD, I always get the same (or a very similar) error: "Failed to create Swap space The creation of swap space in partition #3 of SCSI5 (0,0,0)(sda) failed." So far, I've run DBAN (Darik's Boot and Nuke) on my HDD once, to make absolutely sure that everything on it had been erased. Then, I simply put in the LiveCD, and let it run the automated install. I get the above error directly after I tell it to automatically partition the HDD (it will work for a second or so, then this will pop up), forcing me back to the screen that lets me choose whether I want to automatically or manually partition the HDD. Well, after failing to install the software manually, I did a little research and learned enough about partitioning Linux to use the 'Manual partitioning' option. I partitioned the HDD as follows (it's a 1TB drive): /home - (the rest)- ext2, / - 20GB - ext2, /boot - 100MB - ext2, /swap - 8GB /EFIboot - 40MB The only difference when I tried this method was that I got THIS message: "Failed to create Swap space The creation of swap space in partition #2 of SCSI5 (0,0,0)(sda) failed." Basically, the only difference was that there was now a '2' instead of a '3'. If I may ask, what exactly am I doing wrong? I've tried looking around the internet (that's basically all I've done for the last two days), but no one seems to have the same problem that I have, and I've tried most of the solutions for similar problems (DBAN, formatting partitions in ext2 format, etc). The only thing I haven't tried is using the terminal to manually partition the HDD...and I actually DID try to do this, but I wasn't able to get past 'su' 's password demand, so I wasn't able to use the terminal. • Ubuntu 12.04 LTS: Error message "Failed to execute child process"

  I am an Ubuntu-newbie and just started working with Ubuntu (version 12.04 LTS) a couple of days ago. I wanted to add a launcher icon to desktop for launching an application I previously installed. Up to now I can only launch it by typing setsid matlab -desktop into my terminal. Now there is the following problem with the execution via the desktop icon: Whenever I click the desktop icon, I get the following error message: "Failed to execute child process" I would like to add a screenshot, but unfortunately as a new user, I am not allowed to... In the main menu from where I added the icon via drag'n'drop to desktop there is also a permission to execute the .desktop file. I also tried to look for advice on the error message "Failed to execute child process..." but could not find anything useful. Now does anybody have an idea what I am missing? Sorry if this is a stupid question ;) ...but as I just said: I just started with Ubuntu... Thanks to everybody in advance for their help! :) And let me know if you should need any more information... • Can I use a *.tag from another *.tag file in the same /WEB-INF/tags folder?

  Hello, I am trying to refactor my JSP code so that a small conditional test condition gets reused through a *.tag file. There are some big parts of my UI that depend on the value of a two-state property of an object present in the request. Let's say the property is 'gender' and the object is of type Person. Like I said, I would like to simplify & centralize the test on the gender property using a tag. For this purpose, I created two tag files: /WEB-INF/tags/if-male.tag /WEB-INF/tags/if-female.tag Now, I have another tiny spot that gets repeated in all over my application; let's say is the salutation to my site user. With this idea, I created a tag like this: /WEB-INF/tags/salutation.tag As you can imagine, I am trying to use the if-male/if-female test within the salutation.tag file to output 'Mrs.' or 'Mr.' like this: <%@ tag body-content="empty" %> <%@ taglib prefix="g" uri="/WEB-INF/tags" %> <g:if-male> Mr. </g:if-male> <g:if-female> Mrs. </g:if-female> Is the use of the if-male/if-female tags legal within the salutation.tag file? I have tried with such arrangement, but it looks like the JDeveloper 10.1.3.4 compiler gets confused and cannot deal with the salutation.tag tag invoking the other two tags in the same 'library' (folder under /WEB-INF/tags). The reference works perfectly in Jetty 6 and it looks like it works as well if I deploy the application to OC4J directly without relying on JDeveloper to pre-compile all my JSPs. • Unknown filesystem error

  My computer has (had) a dual boot of Ubuntu Precise and Windows 7. Recently, when I started the computer, grub gave me an error saying "Unknown filesystem", and sent me to grub rescue. I searched for solutions to this, and found this answer: Unknown filesystem error: grub rescue. I followed the instructions there, but they didn't really help: when I restarted the computer, it went straight to Windows without grub intervening at all (so it boots successfully, just not to the OS I want). This is the log from boot-repair. My Ubuntu partition is sda6. Naturally, I'm a little worried, since the log says "unknown filesystem type ''", which to me looks like the partition might be corrupt somehow. From the Ubuntu Live CD, I started gparted and looked at my partitions, and it also told me that my sda6 is an unknown filesystem. So my questions are basically: Can I restore Ubuntu to the way it was? If not, can I at least rescue the data I had on the partition somehow? Again, if I can't restore Ubuntu, how do I clean everything up so that I can reinstall it without too many complications? Another thing I should mention is that yesterday I had a similar problem where the computer told me there was a problem with the hard drive when it was starting, but it fixed itself by running fsck (that time it got past grub, and managed to start Ubuntu). Between that occasion and me having trouble booting the computer today, I have booted it successfully at least twice. Thanks for any help!

• Unable to boot Windows after installing Ubuntu 12.04 - error: invalid efi file path

  I have a Laptop (ASUS X310A, I installed Ubuntu 12.04 to be side by side with Windows 7 but I seem to have gotten a problem with booting Windows 7. I used the Boot Repair twice with no results. Boot-Repair info: http://paste.ubuntu.com/1417623/ The error I get when starting Windows 7 from GRUB is: error: invalid efi file path In Boot Manager or Menu, I have 3 options now: 2x for Ubuntu (maybe cause I did boot-repair twice) 1x Windows boot manager (If I boot this it opens "ASUS Preload Wizard", it gives me the option to re-install windows losing all previous data -) When I was making the partition before installing Ubuntu, I made the new partition by making sda4 smaller and adding ext4 mounted: "\" and adding a swap area. Installed it and it didn't work, nothing worked. So i booted Ubuntu from the USB again and deleted the partitions I made and decided to make sda3 smaller and making the partitions but this time it gave me the option that I could mount sda3 on "\windows" or "\dos" I ignored it and didn't choose neither because the I know that it doesn't need to be mounted and proceeded to create what is now sda7 (ext4) and sda8 (swap area). It still didn't work so I booted from USB and did the first boot-repair, so I was able to boot Ubuntu now but not windows, but when I did it through my USB I was not able to update boot-repair, so i decided to redo the boot-repair from Ubuntu running on the Hardisk (fully updated) and it still didn't work. In GRUB this is what i see (when booting using Ubuntu as first option in Boot Menu): Ubuntu, with Linux 3.2.0-29-generic Ubuntu, with Linux 3.2.0-29-generic (recovery mode) Windows UEFI loader Windows Boot UEFI bootx64.efi.bkp Windows 7 (loader) (on /dev/sda3) Windows Recovery Environment (loader) (on /dev/sda5) I tried all the ones starting with "Windows" they all don't work Please help, Many Thanks

• Deploying a Java application. How?

  I am new to Java (and Eclipse) but I have used .NET (and Visual Studio) a fair amount. I also know about compiling C/C++ code and things like that. I know that at the end I get either an EXE or a nice binary file that can be run from the command line. I have been making a Java utility that uses some external libraries. I need to compile this into an executable that I can run from the command line on a unix machine, but I cannot find any way to do this. I can build and run/debug in Eclipse, but that is no use to me as this code will be run on a webserver. I just need all the dependancies compiled in to one file but after hours of searching on Google, the best thing I could find was the Fat-JAR plugin for Eclipse and after using that I just get the following error when I try to run the file: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Network/jar This is really confusing me and as it is such an essential thing to be able to do I am sure I must be missing something blindingly obvious, but as I said, after hours of searching I have gotten nowhere. I really appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks.

Also, I only get this using primusrun. optirun gives the same error no matter what I run: [VGL] NOTICE: Pixel format of 2D X server does not match pixel format of [VGL] Pbuffer. Disabling PBO readback. I don't know what either of these mean. Neither of them stop the programs from running, but I'd like to fix the problem if there is one. Also, I prefer to use primusrun because it is faster and it does a better job with vertical sync, however, it only supports OGL 4.2. This isn't a big issue because the programs I write are forward compatible, but it still seems odd to me. • How can I create an executable to run on a certain processor architecture (instead of certain OS)?

  So I take my C++ program in Visual studio, compile, and it'll spit out a nice little EXE file. But EXEs will only run on windows, and I hear a lot about how C/C++ compiles into assembly language, which is runs directly on a processor. The EXE runs with the help of windows, or I could have a program that makes an executable that runs on a mac. But aren't I compiling C++ code into assembly language, which is processor specific? My Insights: I'm guessing I'm probably not. I know there's an Intel C++ compiler, so would it make processor-specific assembly code? EXEs run on windows, so they advantage of tons of things already set up, from graphics packages to the massive .NET framework. A processor-specific executable would be literally starting from scratch, with just the instruction set of the processor. Would this executable be a file-type? We could be running windows and open it, but then would control switch to processor only? I assume this executable would be something like an operating system, in that it would have to be run before anything else was booted up, and have only the processor instruction set to "use".

• How To Get the Name of the Current Procedure/Function in Delphi (As a String)

  Is it possible to obtain the name of the current procedure/function as a string, within a procedure/function? I suppose there would be some "macro" that is expanded at compile-time. My scenario is this: I have a lot of procedures that are given a record and they all need to start by checking the validity of the record, and so they pass the record to a "validator procedure". The validator procedure raises an exception if the record is invalid, and I want the message of the exception to include not the name of the validator procedure, but the name of the function/procedure that called the validator procedure (naturally). That is, I have procedure ValidateStruct(const Struct: TMyStruct; const Sender: string); begin if <StructIsInvalid> then raise Exception.Create(Sender + ': Structure is invalid.'); end; and then procedure SomeProc1(const Struct: TMyStruct); begin ValidateStruct(Struct, 'SomeProc1'); ... end; ... procedure SomeProcN(const Struct: TMyStruct); begin ValidateStruct(Struct, 'SomeProcN'); ... end; It would be somewhat less error-prone if I instead could write something like procedure SomeProc1(const Struct: TMyStruct); begin ValidateStruct(Struct, {$PROCNAME}); ... end; ... procedure SomeProcN(const Struct: TMyStruct); begin ValidateStruct(Struct, {$PROCNAME}); ... end; and then each time the compiler encounters a {$PROCNAME}, it simply replaces the "macro" with the name of the current function/procedure as a string literal.

  Recently, one of my desktops seems to have developed a problem with the fstab and mounting USB drives. The specific error I receive is... • Delphi Client-Server Application using Firebird 2.5 error

  I have got a lengthy question to ask. First of all Im still very new when it comes to Delphi programming and my experience has beem mostly developing small single user database applications using ADO and an Access database. I need to take the transition now to a client server application and this is where the problem starts. I decided to use Firebird 2.5 embeded as my database, as it is open source, and it is can be used with the interbase components in Delphi and that multiple clients can access the database simultanously. So I followed the interbase tutorial in Delphi. I managed to connect the client to the server and see the data in the example (While both are running on my pc), but when i tried to move the client to another pc, keeping the server on mine and running it to see if I can connect to the server it gave me the following error. Exception EIdSocketError in module clientDemo.exe at 0029DCAC. Socket Error # 10061 Connection refused. I understand that this might be because the host is defined as localhost in the client. But here is my first question. In the TSQLConncetion you can set die hostname under Driver-Hostname. The thing I want to know is how do you do this at run time, as I cannot get the property when I try and make an edit box to allow the user to enter the value and then set it via code like for example: SQLConncetion1.Driver.Hostname := edtHost.text; The thing is there is not such property to set, so how do you set the hostname at run time? Im using Delphi XE2 There is still a lot of questions to come especially when it comes to deployment, but I will take this piece by piece and I appreciate the advice.

• backface culling error (in world space)

  I write simple software renderer. In my pipeline i have stage of backface culling. But looks like it has some error (see picture). I perform culling right after world transformation (is it correct?). Can i perform culing RIGHT BEFORE view/proj transforms? In this case looks like culling will not depends of projection and it's not right?.. UPDATED 3: I found answer and will post it in two hours - again coz of reputation lack.

• Error encountered compiling kernel 2.6.35-25.44

  I downloaded the linux-source-2.6.35 package and tried to compile it using the command "fakeroot make-kpkg --append-to-version=.dbg kernel_image kernel_source kernel_headers --initrd" after "make menuconfig". The image .deb file is produced and installs fine, but an error stops the build process while trying to make the source package: scripts/Makefile.clean:17: /home/ade/linux-source-2.6.35/debian/linux-source-2.6.35.10.dbg/usr/src/linux-source-2.6.35.10.dbg/crypto/Makefile: No such file or directory make[1]: *** No rule to make target `/home/ade/linux-source-2.6.35/debian/linux-source-2.6.35.10.dbg/usr/src/linux-source-2.6.35.10.dbg/crypto/Makefile'. Stop. make: *** [_clean_crypto] Error 2 Sure enough, the folder linux-source-2.6.35/debian/linux-source-2.6.35.10.dbg/usr/src/linux-source-2.6.35.10.dbg/crypto does not exist (although all of the other kernel source folders appear to be there). I haven't even been able to determine where the folder is supposed to be copied over, or what's supposed to invoke clean. Am I doing something wrong here? It should be noted that I am running 10.04.
