    Trying to make PHP 5.4.4 with various extensions (I know you can apt-get this, but I need to do it because I have a new installation of Apache 2.4.2 which isn't available via repos).   • Device Manager in read-only remote mode when local

    Hello - since configuring a Windows Web Server 2008 R2 x64 to be hardened for an internet-facing deployment I receive this: "Device Manager is running in read-only mode because you are running it on a remote computer." when entering Device Manager. I have tried reversing the changes I have made, such as: Re-adding Client for Microsoft Networks Re-enabling NetBIOS over TCP-IP Re-adding File and Printer Sharing Disabling the Windows Firewall in all profiles (public, domain, private) I get no joy. It looks like a Microsoft ballsup. I'll try and use Process Monitor to have a look. Google returns only 1 page for this error. Luke

  • How should I fix problems with file permissions while restoring from Time Machine?

    While restoring files from a Time Machine backup, I got the error message "The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items." because of problems with files in one folder. What's the safest way to deal with this? I used SQL profiler to monitor sp_replcmds and found sp_replcmds execution time was 11 sec to 15 sec Is it there any way to optimize to make Log Reader read faster from transaction log??? Other information: SQL Server 2008 (SP2) Standard 64 bit

  • Rackspace copy script failure message "java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out"

    I am using Rackspace for Ubuntu cloud server. Everyday a script(I guess the script is from rackspace) executes on the cloud servers which copies the backfile to the Rackspace CloudFiles and sends the mail as if the files are copied and I've scheduled the script on the cloud servers. I've no much knowledge of the script and I guess the script is based on Cruise(as I could see build.xml, some jar files ...). Everyday the files are copied to the Rackspace from cloud servers but sometimes don't know why, the files will be copied to Rackspace sending an error failure message or sometimes the files will not be copied and sends the error failure message like the one below. Error while backing up on Station1 on 03/03/2011 04:50 AM and reason for error is java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out Anybody using Rackspace?, anybody has any fix for this?

I know somethings (mostly through trial and error) but for example how do I know that: /usr/bin/ls [-aAbcCdeEfFghHilLmnopqrRstuvVx1@] [file]... Means that you can include more than one option. Ie: ls -la Can someone point me to some documentation on what the usage syntax is.

    is it possible that 1024 and 2048 block size read speed is faster than 4096 and 8192 block? I'm using lsi 9361-8i with RAID 10 , with 8 x Kingston E50 250G. result: 1024 = Write: 2,251 MB/s Read: 2,625 MB/s 2048 = Write: 2,141 MB/s Read: 3,672 MB/s 4096 = Write: 2,147 MB/s Read: 231 MB/s 8192 = Write: 2,147 MB/s Read: 442 MB/s is there any possible? and below is the reading when i simply want to test out the RAID 10 function and disaster test by taking out one of the 250G harddisk. the result is different like below: Result: 1024 = Write: 825 MB/s Read: 1,139 MB/s 2048 = Write: 797 MB/s Read: 1,312 MB/s 4096 = Write: 911 MB/s Read: 1,342 MB/s 8192 = Write: 786 MB/s Read: 1,204 MB/s and the result for 4096 and 8192block are different? can any one explain to me is it normal? or I need to do some tuning/configuration? will it affect my host linux performance?

I have never worked on linux and dont plan on working on it either - The only command I probably know is "ls" :) I am hosting my website on Eapps and use their cpanel to setup everything so never worked with linux. Now I have this one time case - where I need to provide access to a contractor to fix the CSS issues on my website. He basically needs FTP (read/write) access to certain folders. At a high level - this is my code structure /home/webadmin/example.com/html/images /css /js /login.php /facebook.php /home/webadmin/example.com/application/library /views /models /controllers /config /bootstrap.php /home/webadmin/example.com/cgi-bin I want the new user to be able to have access to only these folders /home/webadmin/example.com/html/js /home/webadmin/example.com/html/css /home/webadmin/example.com/application/views He should not be able to view even the content of other folders including files like bootstrap.php or login.php etc If any sys admins can help me set this account up - will really appreciate it.     I am trying to get read/write support for NTFS drives, under Mac os 10.6. I have tried to use NTFS 3G, but it seems it does not support 64 bit kernels. I was unable to change my Mac's Kernel to 32 bit. Is there a solution? I am running Snow Leopard, under a 2011 MBP13 I am getting the following error.   • How to create a service running a .bat file on Windows 2008 Server?

    I've created the service using sc create myService binpath=myservice.bat But when I start it, it fails with the following error message: [SC] StartService FAILED 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. On Win2k3 I used the srvany.exe from the Resource kit, but there's no resource kit for win2k8. For the time being I've installed the srvany.exe on my machine, but I don't think that's the best way to do it. Thanks!

    Is rsync is a good choice for my project ? I have to : - copy files from source to destination folder via SSH, - be sure all files are copied, - delete source files after copy. - if I have conflict name, I have to rename files. It looks like I can use option : --remove-source-files (to delete source files) But how rsync manage conflict, can I had rules ? Use case on my project : I run scientific calculation on server A and results are inserted in folder "process", for each calculation I have a repository like this : /process/calc1. Now I would like to transfer repository "/calc1" to server B (I get /process/calc1), and delete "calc1" from server A. ...During another calculation I get "/process/calc2" on server A, the idea is also to move "calc2" in "/process/" directory on server B, then I have now on server B : - /process/calc1 - /process/calc2 (and /process/ on server A is empty). How rsync will manage conflict (on server B) if I have another folder like "/process/calc1" in server A after a new calculation (if "/process/calc1" already exist on server B) ? Is it possible to add rules with rsync, and rename "/process/calc1" by "process/calc1R2" in server B ? And so on (ex:calc1R3) ? Thanks.

    It seems that there are many tools out there for Mac OS X that test a hard drive for bad blocks by doing a Read/Verify pass. That is, they read a block, then read it a second time, and verify that both reads yielded the same results. I need a tool that does a non-destructive Read/Write/Verify pass. It should read each block, write those same contents back out, and then read it again to verify. That way every block gets written, giving the hard drive a chance to spare out bad blocks. But since the same contents that were just read get written back out, it doesn't destroy data that wasn't already lost. I'm aware of several tools that can do Read/Verify, but I'm not aware of any that do Read/Write/Verify. Are there any tools that do what I want? Unix / open source tools that compile and run on Mac OS X are fair game too.

  • How to compare mp3, flac audio data in a file, ignoring header data (ID3 tag) etc.?

    I've backed up some audio files up in 2 places and added ID3 tags into one backup but not the other, since time has passed my own memory has faded on whether the backups are actually the same, but now one has ID3 data and the other doesn't, basic binary compare will fail and inspection will be cumbersome.   • What are some of the best answer file settings for a WDS Deployment?

    I've had my head buried in answer files for days now and have gotten quite comfortable setting them up, test, etc... I use a handful of Components to help my migrations, for my unattend.xml I like: Windows-International-Core-WinPE -- this is good for setting Locales the preboot environment (en-us for us english US speakers). Keeps me from having to set these on the initial image boot. Windows-Setup_neutral -- I like the WindowsDeploymentServices -> ImageSelection, especially if I'm only pushing a single image. This keeps me from having to select it each time. My OOBE_Unattend.xml is really useful and I barely have to touch anything during this part of the installation: Windows-Shell-Setup_neutral -- This lets me put a ProductKey in for my MAK volume license (very useful and time saving). I can also set the TimeZone for the installation. Windows UnattendedJoin_neutral -- I couldn't live without this component. It joins the machine on my domain before logging in as a domain administrator. I would hate to not have this ability. Windows-International-Core -- Again this component really speeds up the OOBE process. I configure my locals and time zone so I don't have to do it by hand when the machine enteres OOBE. Windows-Shell-Setup -- Allows you to configure an autologon when the new machine is finished. I like to logon as a domain admin automatically for customizing and troubleshooting the new machine immediately after it is imaged. Also the OOBE component under here lets me skip the EULA, Hide Wireless Setup, and set my default NetworkLocation. All of this makes the entire OOBE totally automated. What are some other good components I am missing as far as helping me get these images pushed and configured as quickly as possible?

  • Windows 8, Truecrypt drive mounts but Windows cannot read its content

    I installed Windows 8 and when I started it, it said that it was repairing a disk. The disk was an encrypted Truecrypt disk. I couldn't mount the disk in Truecrypt after that. I tried to repair the header and it worked, now I can mount the disk but neither Windows 7 or 8 can read the content. Windows asks if it should format the disk. I have all the important files on backup, but there are some media files that I would like to get back. Any ideas?
