• Location of Opera cookies set to expire after restart (time 0)

  Where does Opera store cookies that are destroyed or expire after the browser is restarted? I'm looking for information on where these temporary cookies, with time expire (0), and that are deleted after a browser restart. I tested a file "cookies4.dat" using a hex editor and it doesn't have the temporary cookies stored inside. Does Opera create a temporary file for these cookies and delete them after restart? If that was so, where are they? Or does it store them in RAM?

• CPU I/O communication

  Hi, I know there is this question already discussed, but I still don´t understand something, so please just help me clarify it. What I understand there is 2 way to do I/O aka communicate from CPU with other HW. One is to use in and out instructions, and second is the memory mapped. But what I don´t actually understand is, is IN and OUT instructions are used, you define source port. But what is this port? I mean, is it different set of pins on CPU or what? And, to what is that port connected? And for the memory mapped, I miss just a tiny detail. Wheather memory mapped I/O must be first set by IN and OUT instructions, or does the device actually somehow itself connects to the RAM and reads it? Thanks.

• raspberry pi for web programming/development

  I'm into web development and my machine (AMD Phenom II, 8G RAM) is running Ubuntu 13.04. I love my current setup but I kinda miss some of Windows software like MSOffice or Adobe suites, and running on Virtualbox doesn't feel as snappy for me.... So I'm thinking of buying a new cheap machine where I would install Linux and do my development work there and have my current machine run Windows. I just found this thing called Raspberry pi which is really cheap and requires 12v only (I think) which makes it good for downloading stuff overnight. So, does it make sense to buy Raspberry pi, make it my primary dev machine, Windows being the secondary (for Adobe and browser testing of course)? Basically, I want to know if Raspberry pi meets the following requirements: It should run ArchLinux Sublime Text 3 python ruby nginx nodejs Deluge or Transmission (well, maybe just those, no need for videos and music players)

• What software can I use to pinpoint why Windows Server 2003 takes 15 seconds for any operation?

  Ram is about 1/2 in use, four CPUs are all but idle. I tried "Microsoft Server Performance Advisor" with no luck. No entries in the Event Log for hardware failures, etc. And yet I can click on the start menu and wait 15 seconds for any new attempt. Launching software takes 30 seconds to respond. The server has an 8 drive WD RE 250 gig each Dell Perc 6 Sata raid array with Intel gigabit network cards. Anyone have any software titles that could analyze what is going wrong with this server?

• Throughput = BS * IOPS?

  I've seen in many places that throughput = bs * iops should be true. For example writing at 128k block size to a SAS disk that can support 190 IOPS should give a throughput of ~23 MBps - 23.75(MBs) = 128(BS)*190(SAS-15 IOPS)/1024. Now when I tested it in a VM against a monster NetApp filer I got theses results: # dd if=/dev/zero of=/tmp/dd.out bs=4k count=2097152 8589934592 bytes (8.6 GB) copied, 61.5996 seconds, 139 MB/s To view the IO rate of the VM I used iostat and esxtop, and they both showed around 250 IOPS. So to my understanding the throughput was supposed to be ~1000k: 1000(KBs) = 4(BS)*250(IOPS). dd of 8GB is twice the size of RAM of course, so no page caching here. What am I missing? Thanks!

• apache2 slow responding (debian)

  I'm running an apache2 2.2.9 webserver with modpython and mpm_worker_module. The current config for the mpm is ServerLimit 32 StartServers 10 MaxClients 800 MinSpareThreads 25 MaxSpareThreads 75 ThreadsPerChild 25 MaxRequestsPerChild 0 The server has 1G of ram and a 100Mbit connection. Checking netstat -na | grep ESTABLISHED | wc -l gives me a number between 50 - 60. The load is about 1.0 Every pageload is also cached by memcached. I can't see why the server is so slow in responding to new connections, sometimes droping them completely? Also tried disabling iptables to make sure it's not because of a full state table or something like that. The only thing in dmesg is a lot of spam about "TCP: Treason uncloaked!"

• Ubuntu server 9.10 freezes up after ~10 minutes

  I just upgraded my Ubuntu server from 9.04 to 9.10 and after about 10 minutes it locks up. It won't respond to ping, can't ssh in and the terminal doesn't accept keyboard input. It does not have X installed. I then reformatted and installed it from scratch with the same results. There are two hard drives, the first is for the OS and the second is for media. The second has not changed, it is an ext3 formatted drive with one partition. I stopped random services (samba, ushare, transmission-daemon) to see if they were causing the issue, but it still locked up. I did a watch "dmesg|tail" until it locked up, but I didn't see anything. How can I troubleshoot this further? I don't want to downgrade. Machine specs: Dell Dimension 3000 Pentium 4 @3GHz 512M RAM

• Weird problem, special characters coming after formatting the hard drive, computer isn't starting 0_

  Hya friends , Last night my computer was working fine. But today when i came back from college and started it , it was starting fine but after sometime it's getting restarted , again and again getting restarted at different points , so i tried to boot it in safe mode but same problem. Now after all this , i finally decided to format the drive C (it is in 80 GB) and load new OS windows XP3. After formatting (quick format) and loading xp3 sufficient files , when it was getting rebooted for copying the actual os files , it hung and a weird screen came.   My company is hosting a website in a server with IIS, SQL Server and a 3rd party windows service (written in C#, source code available for amendments). We bought a new identical server, composed by: 1x Quad Core, 12GB RAM, 4x160GB SATA Raid 5, Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter, Public IP. We aim to put all webpages and the 3rd party windows service in an high-availability state. After some lab-testing on how to configure Failover Clustering and Hyper-V, we have deep doubts on what the "best" solution would be, by "best" meaning maintainable and able to correctly handle a physical server failure. Any suggestion on how we should configure the two servers? We don't need all the configuration's step, just an hint on the right direction to follow.

• Preparing Automatic Repair appears out of nowhere & takes forever?

  I shutdown my work machine (Windows 8.1 Pro) without any errors appearing (and without installing any new software and especially no new drivers the last couple days) yesterday evening, turned it on this morning and it automatically started into 'Preparing Automatic Repair' mode. 1st of - is there any way to get more information WHY this is appearing out of the blue and.. 2ndly, how long is this usually supposed to take? This is a rather beefy machine (Intel 3770k / 4 core 3.9ghz, Intel SSDs only and 32 gb of ram) but this screen has been 'loading' for almost 1.5 hours now. Is there any sort of debug/verbose mode that would give me ANY indication what's going on?

• Linux for a laptop? [closed]

  I would like to install Linux on a laptop. So I have emptied the hard drive, and can boot off a CD. So far I have failed to format the hard drive to Linux, to install Linux, and to change it so that I don't have to hit escape when loading in order to boot from CD (or get Linux on the hard drive and boot to it). The old laptop has 640 MB RAM, 600*800 screen, a CD drive and USB mouse and floppy drives. I eventually mean to use it to look at PDFs if possible, or RTFs that I converted from PDFs if not.

  Im in the process of setting up a new database server. I have been running a few mysql database servers before and it has been working okay. But i would like to hear the recommended setup for my server. For example, what should i set the max connection, query_cache_size, table_cache and so on.   Got a new XFX GTX260^2 video card. The only problem is the "Minimum power" is 500W on the box. I've got a Chieftec 450AA PSU with just a minimal number of attached stuff (1hdd, WD green; 6gb (4module) ram; dvd writer). Bought a cable for the 6pin power input on the card. Got picture, works in every aspect. Still. Should I get a new PSU (like a Corsair or Antec 600W)? Will the card perform slower with this PSU? • How to choose size for a cloud server (rackspace)

  We're going to test the rackspace cloud next week to see how it's working with our web app. It's a LAMP environment with a lot of MySQL databases. How do I choose the "right" server size? On Rackspace I can choose slices with the memory of 256, 512, 1024, 2048, 4096 etc. Right now we don't have a lot of traffic (approx. 1000 visitors/day) but I thought the whole "cloud" idea was to not be limited and auto scale. Update: What I'm looking for is now a specification of what I need. I know it's too complex.   All, Building a new system using an Intel Server Board S3420GP motherboard and an Intel Xeon X3440 processor. Before installing this motherboard into the chassis we want to test that it will actually boot correctly. We have mounted the processor and RAM with no hard drives attached. The boot sequence differs between the next variable: 1) Connecting video results in the system fans ramp up and down, twice, and then the system beeps with the same behavior repeating; the system status light shows "Amber" 2) With no video, the system goes through POST and the diag LEDs show that the system is missing a bootable device Need some assistance identifying why the board would fail to POST with video connected. // Update // Using another Power Supply the system gets passed the fans ramping up and down twice. • Video issues with old server running Boxee

  I have a old Dell Power Edge 1650 1U rackmount server running Windows XP. Dual 1.3 ghz Processors and 1 GB of RAM. I would like to run Boxee on it, but the 8mb integrated video card will not support it. The font within Boxee just comes up as blocks of color. I have a PCI Radion R9000 dual out video card. However when I plug it in I can not get video signal on any of the VGA outs.   I've run into a major display problem on newly installed fedora 11, on my 6 years old pc which runs a pentium4 2.4 GHz processor, 1 gb ddr ram, intel 845 motherboard with integrated graphics card. When i open an image or play a video, my complete screen turns garbled. I simply cannot make out whats on my screen. With difficulty i have to close the image/video window and move around the folder window to clean the screen image. Is it because of my display drivers? How can i fix it? I also ran into mp3 plugins and flash issues which i was able to resovle. Just wandering what I would have to keep to prevent me having to reinstall my OSs, at the moment I have a dual boot setup with ubuntu and windows 7. I'm pretty sure you can't just take your hard drive with the OS on it and put it into a different box and keep going (can you?) but I know you can change the graphics cards, secondary hard drives and ram with out a problem. • Apache2 memory usage when uploading large files

  Hi, I am running apache2.2.12 along with PHP 5.2.10. PHP is configured to run as a separate process through fcgid. The problem is that when users upload a file, size of the apache process swells by almost the same amount. So if somebody tries to upload a 200 MB file, one of the child process swells to current size+200 MB. If 2 users simultaneously start uploading, my server crashes. Now it is the virtual memory size which is increasing but since I am on a OpenVZ based VPS, that is what counts. My questions are: Is it the normal Apache behavior or can I do something to fix this? If not, is there a more memory efficient way of handling big file uploads. Going by the current behavior, I will need 1 GB of free RAM for every apache child accepting a upload. Thanks! Abhaya -
