• How should I embed/include Enterprise Architect UML diagrams in MS PowerPoint 2007?

  Setup I am using Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect Professional edition 7.5: http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/ and MS PowerPoint. Problem I have various audiences for presentations requiring display in MS PowerPoint -- ranging from managers to developers, whose depth of technical knowledge and requirements for knowledge varies. Question I have tried various settings for fonts, colors, and so on, but displaying a diagram with any level of detail (even simple class diagrams). These diagrams are very difficult to fit into a PowerPoint slide and render well when using a projector or a Live Meeting. Am I on the wrong path here, or is there a better/correct way to accomplish this? Thank you for the help, -bn

In the alternative, I could rework the javascript and add something like onClick="toggleTable()" to the radio buttons if I can't add something different to each of the radio buttons. But, will Zend let me do that?

• Possible to InvalidateVisual() on a given region instead of entire WPF control?

  I have a complex WPF control that draws a lot of primitives in its OnRender (it's sort of like a map). When a small portion of it changes, I'd only like to re-issue render commands for the affected elements, instead of running the entire OnRender over. While I'm fine with my OnRender function's performance on a resize or whatever, it's not fast enough for mouse hover-based highlighting of primitives. Currently the only way I know how to force a screen update is to call InvalidateVisual(). No way to send in a dirty rect region to invalidate. Is the lowest granularity of WPF screen composition the UI element? Will I need to do my renders of primitives into an intermediate target and then have that use InvalidateVisual() to update to the screen?

  What is the most performant way of displaying a table of data in Flex? Are there alternatives to the native Flex Datagrid Component? Alternatives that are noted for their rendering speed? Are there other ways to display a table? I have a datagrid with roughly 70 lines and 7 columns of simple text data. This is currently created and loaded in memory. This is being refreshed rapidly (about 800 msec) and there is a slight lag in other animations when it is rendering the table... So I am trying to cut down this render time.

• In Sinatra, best way to serve iPhone layout vs. normal layout?

  I'm writing a Sinatra app which needs to render different layouts based on whether the user is using an iPhone or a regular browser. I can detect the browser type using Rack-Mobile-Detect but I'm not sure of the best way to tell Sinatra which layout to use. Also, I have a feeling that how I choose to do this may also break page caching. Is that true?   I'm querying an underlying PostgreSQL database using Pandas 0.8. Pandas is returning the DataFrame properly but the underlying timestamp column in my database is being returned as a generic "object" type in Pandas. As I would eventually like to seasonal normalization of my data I am curious as to how to convert this generic "object" column to something that is appropriate for analysis. • Firefox, prevent rendering between javascript statements.

  I'm trying to create some kind of zoom around the mouse cursor feature on my website which ultimately runs these two lines (+ the same for height/scrollTop). canvas.style.width = someValue; canvas.parentNode.scrollLeft = someOtherValue; The problem is that in firefox(3.6) the page is re-rendered directly after the first row has been executed and since the view is depending on both values this means that every time i recalculate the view firefox will will render an invalid view before the correct one, in other words creating flicker. I've tried swapping the two rows but get the same problem. In chrome, opera and IE this doesn't happen. Both lines are executed before any rendering is done.   I just wrote some markdown and it doesn't seem to render correctly. Is it legal syntax to have an ordered list, followed by newlines, then followed by an unordered list? Or is this a bug in bluecloth? For example: 1. One 2. Two 3. Three * Apple * Banana * Carrot Bluecloth creates a single <ul> and nests apple, banana and carrot as <li>'s under it. Stackoverflow's post editor (wmd?) does this too. Am I just doing it wrong? Surely this is a common usage case...

• Firefox 17 and CSS borders based triangles = crap

  Like many front-end devs, I've been using the border trick to render triangles in CSS. http://apps.eky.hk/css-triangle-generator/ this generator helps with the technique. Today, like every week (almost), the Firefox team released a new version without any clear changelog on the rendering engine. Now we can see an ungraceful gray border around those triangles. I haven't found a trick to get rid of it yet. On top of that, before Firefox 17, when people were complaining about how aliased those triangles looked, an additional trick was to set the border-style property to "dashed" instead of solid. Using firebug on the triangle generator, you can quickly see how it shows up now, and cry yourself to death. I hope a more brillant front-end dev than myself will find a fix for this and share it here. Thanks

• Cannot see response body in ie8 when response http status code is set to some error code(422)

  I am making a requset to a web service that sends custom error with proper HTTP header when I notice some validation error, this works fine in chrome and mozilla as things always do and then it broke in ie8 as it always does! After checking the network activity, I see that ie8 is not able to get response body when HTTP code is other that 200(or at-least it seems so). In groovy I am returning error like : render(status: 422, contentType: 'TEXT', text: ((errors as JSON) as String)) Is there a way I could somehow get ie8 to read in the response body, or as an alternative I might be able to set response header but before trying that I was wondering if you guys have already seen this issue and know a solution to it.   I am using django comments framework for allowing users to comment on my site, but there is a problem with the url to which user is redirected after posting the comment. If I render my comment form as {% with comment.content_object.get_absolute_url as next %} {% render_comment_form for comment.content_object %} {% endwith %} Then the url to which it is redirected after the comment is posted is <comment.content_object.get_absolute_url/?c=<comment.id> For example I posted a comment on a post with url /post/256/a-new-post/ then the url to which I am redirected after posting the comment is /post/256/a-new-post/?c=99 where assume 99 is the id comment just posted. Instead what I want is something like this /post/256/a-new-post/#c99. Secondly when I do comment.get_absolute_url() I do not get the proper url instead I get a url like /comments/cr/58/14/#c99 and this link is broken. How can I get the correct url as mentioned in the documentation. Am i doing something wrong. Any help is appreciated.

  I'm running into problems trying to pass absolute URIs as parameters with clean URLs enabled. I've tried a few things and nothing's worked so far... http://mysite.com/page/http%3A%2F%2Fdbpedia.org%2Fresource%2FCoffee Completely breaks Drupal's rewriting http://mysite.com/page/?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fdbpedia.org%2Fresource%2FCoffee Gives a 404 http://mysite.com/page/http://dbpedia.org/resource/Coffee Returns just "http:", which makes sense I could probably use $_GET to pull out the whole query string, but I guess I'm hoping for a more 'Drupal' solution. Any suggestions?

  Hello, In my app I am using the ym4r-gm plugin, which allows you to play with the Google Maps API... I put the map "setup" in the controller: @map = GMap.new("div_map") @map.control_init(:large_map => true, :map_type => true) @map.center_zoom_init([47.0, 26.0], 7) ... And only render @map in the view. So my first question is whether I am using the right approach of "diving" this code? And the second question is: I have to models, which are rendering the same map (only the resources are different). Where should I put my refactored method that renders the map? So I am thinking that put as little as possible things into head is one of the important website optimization techniques, is it right?   I have a web form with a number of textbox controls which I've associated RequiredFieldValidator's with. I have a ValidationSummary control on the page to render any incomplete fields when I submit the page. However, I've just had to add an image upload facility to the same page, and have an 'Upload' button which I have posting back to perform the upload. I don't want this upload button to trigger the RequiredFieldValidators for the rest of the page though - I want this upload postback to be ignored as far as the validation goes. What's the best way to stop the RequiredFieldValidator's from firing when I submit this upload button on the page because at the moment, the upload won't occur unless I have first field out all of the other textbox controls on the page.

  This is what I would like to do. I would like to load content dynamically. Everything except the actual content will be rendered by javascript. I will place all the require information in a javascript variable or array at the bottom of the page. Then I will use javascript to place the content in the designated area. These are the types of things I would like javascript to render: Login menu Header and logo info Side bar info Footer info Dialog popups Ads All of the MEAT content will not be rendered by javascript. I will use the backend server to put the content in html. My logic is that more of the real content will be in HTML and all the other things will be rendered by javascript. Will this help or hurt SEO?

  Hi I have a form field which requires a json object as its value when it is rendered. When the form is submitted it returns a comma seperated string of ids as its value (not a json string). however if the form does not validate i want to turn this string of ids back into a json string so it will display properly (is uses jquery to render the json object correctly). how would i do this? I was thinking of overwriting the form.clean method but when I tried to change self.data['fieldname'] I got the error 'This QueryDict instance is immutable' and when i tried to change self.cleaned_data['fieldname'] it didn't make a difference to the value of the field.
