• grub rescue: grub not installed

  I tried to install beside my windows 7. It didn't work. After installing it could not find the root directory and I got some other error messages... I just wanted my computer to be faster again so instead I decided to reinstall windows from recovery disk. It formatted the disk and installed windows again. The hard-disk has msdos structure now and the ubuntu partition is empty When I start up the computer grab is starting up an I get a grab rescue problem, but grab is no longer installed. How can I boot directly into windows? i can boot Ubuntu from an usb stick but I'm not able to install it anymore. I just want windows to work again... I'm hoping for advice... Linda

• Have search engines recognise multi-lingual sites

  Hello. I have organised my site by language using the following structure: www.domain.com #spanish language version www.domain.com/en #english language version The site is of Spanish subject matter hence Spanish language takes priority at root of domain. Although the site is new at this stage I would hope visiting from google.com and google.es would return English and Spanish versions respectively. Are there any particular steps I need take to separate the two. Should I add them both as individual sites in Google's webmaster tools and also should I submit individual site maps for each 'site' or as a whole? Thanks in advance.

  Web hosting providers offer services such as hosting multiple domains in one account. Then my concern is about seo friendliness. say the main domain of my account is maindomain.com on which I have added an addon domain say domain2.com. That means cpanel will generate domain2.maindomain.com and the contents of domain2.com will be practically stored into a subfolder in maindomain.com. Now, assume both maindomain.com and domain2.com have same structure both optimized for seo same way. My question is that would maindomain.com links be more seo friendly due to that fact that maindomain.com is the mani domain of my account?

• 3D array in a 2D array

  Currently I've been using a 3D array for my tiles in a 2D world but the 3D side comes in when moving down into caves and whatnot. Now this is not memory efficient and I switched over to a 2D array and can now have much larger maps. The only issue I'm having now is that it seems that my tiles cannot occupy the same space as a tile on the same z level. My current structure means that each block has its own z variable. This is what it used to look like: map.blockData[x][y][z] = new Block(); however now it works like this map.blockData[x][y] = new Block(z); I'm not sure why but if I decide to use the same space on say the floor below it wont allow me to. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can add a z-axis to my 2D array? I'm using java but I reckon the concept carries across different languages.

  Say you are using C/SDL for a 2D game project. It's often the case that people use a structure to represent a frame in an animation. The struct consists of an image and how much time the frame is supposed to be visible. Is this data sufficient to represent somewhat complex animatio? Is it a good idea to separate animation management code and animation data? Can somebody provide a link to animations tutorials that store animations in a file and retrieve them when needed. I read this in a book (AI game programming wisdom) but would like to see a real implementation.

  Situation: I've some scripts that simulate user-activity on desktop. Therefore I've defined a few cases (workflows) and implemented them in Python. I've also written some classes for interacting with the users' software (e.g. web browser etc.). Problem: I'm a total beginner in software design / architecture (coding isn't a problem). How could I structure what I described above? Providing a library which contains all the workflows as functions, or a separate class/module etc. for each workflow? I want to keep the the workflows simple. The complexity should be hidden in the classes for interacting with the users' software. • How can I really master a programming language?

  I know that learning a language, you can simply buy a book, follow the examples, and whenever possible try the exercises. But what I'm really looking is how to master the language once you've learned it. Now I know that experience is one major factor, but what about learning the internals of the language, what is the underlying structure, etc. There are articles out there saying read this book, read that book, make this game and that game. But to me this doesn't mean to master a language. I want to be able to read other people's code and understand it, no matter how hard that is. To understand when to use a function and when another, etc etc. The list could go on and on but I believe I've made the point. :) And finally, take whatever language as an example if needed, though best would be if C was taken as an example.

  Can you recommend a good test plan template for an agile testing team? I know there are templates for testing on the web and have already looked at some found by search engines, but I could really use something lightweight and something that has already been tried by skilled testers and is known to work well. Many templates I've seen give me the feeling that writing test documents is expected to be a third of the work that those testers are doing, but my team really prefers to use less documentation and more actual test writing. We use a wiki for documentation, so an approach that lends itself to living documents would be great. My hope is that using a more structured approach to test planning will increase the usefulness of my test plan while reducing the effort to create it by allowing me to think about the tests, and not the format and structure of the plan. My workplace does not have something already on hand, so whatever I start doing might be adopted by the company.

  Is there a debian/ubuntu policy on softlinking things to another location in opt once they're installed properly in usr/share or usr/lib? Here's a simple example: Packaging up dnsenum. It's a REALLY simple package (4 files). A perl script, two wordlists, and a readme. So from what I gather: The wordlists should go in usr/share/dnsenum/* The perl script itself would go in usr/lib/dnsenum/ The readme would go in usr/share/doc/dnsenum/ Add a wrapper bash script that goes in bin and just passes arguments to dnsenum.pl. The question is this: If there are various tools that provide wordlists or some other shared resource, is there a policy on linking all the wordlists from different packages in to /opt/wordlists/ ? It seems like the "right" thing to do respecting the directory structure while still making things convenient.

  I just bought an HP desktop, p6-2326s, which has windows 8 installed. I have tried booting a Ubuntu live disc but the machine won't boot it. When I bring up the UEFI boot menu it offers a selection of UEFI BOOT SOURCES, windows boot manager, dvd drive, IP4 Ethernet controller, or IP6 Ethernet controller. If I select the dvd drive with the CD in it I get the message "Secure boot violation, Invalid structure detected. Check secure boot policy in setup." With all other selections it just boots into windows. So where do I go from here?

You keep a generation counter with each entry, and also a global generation counter. The "clear" operation increases the generation counter. On each access, you compare local vs. global generation counters; if they differ, the value is treated as "clean". This has come up in this answer on Stack Overflow recently, but I don't remember if this trick has an official name. Does it?   Lets assume following scenario, I have two sites: example1.com example2.com When user visits 1 there is a prompt "please signup to a newsletter". Same thing happens when user visits 2. However when navigating from 1 to 2 I don't want signup form to be shown.   I have read so many docs about naming conventions, most recommending both Pascal and Camel naming conventions. Well, I agree to this, it's ok. This might not be pleasing to some, but I am just trying to get your opinion on why you name your objects and classes in a certain way. What happened to this type of naming conventions, and/or why are they bad? I want to name a structure, and I prefix it with "struct". My reason is that, with IntelliSense, I see all structures in one place, and anywhere I see the struct prefix, I know it's a "struct": structPerson structPosition another example is the enum, although I may not prefix it with "enum", but maybe with "enm": enmFruits enmSex again my reason is that in IntelliSense, I see all my enumerations in one place. Because .NET has so many built-in data structures, I think this helps me do less searching. Note that I used .NET in this example, but I welcome language agnostic answers.

  LISP's macros are extremely powerful constructs, and the inability to introspect and modify the program itself beyond the method signature level has always struck me as a limitation. Yet I favour "complex" syntax because it tends to be closer to natural language. So far I have failed to find a language which combines a powerful macro mechanism such as LISP's with a naturally looking syntax (1). Is anyone aware of such a language? Footnote: I would consider python to have a naturally looking syntax as it allows constructs like this: if 0 < a < 5 and b in list. The avoidance of braces to structure blocks is irrelevant in this case, though.
