• Unable to remove some unity lenses

  I removed the files, video, photos and friends lenses with the following command. sudo apt-get purge unity-lens-files unity-lens-video unity-lens-photos unity-lens-friends Although the corresponding results have disappeared from dash, only the friends tab has been removed. There still are tabs for files, video and photos, albeit empty. How do I remove these empty tabs? I use Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander. I understand that this issue didn't exist in 12.04. The directory structure of unity lenses seems to have changed from 12.04 to 13.10. Earlier the lenses were stored in /usr/share/unity/lenses/. • Where should the database and mail parameters be stored in a Symfony2 app?

  In the default folder structure for a Symfony2 project the database and mail server credentials are stored in parameters.yml file inside ProjectRoot/app/config/parameters.yml with these default values: parameters: database_driver: pdo_mysql database_host: 127.0.0.1 database_port: null database_name: symfony database_user: root database_password: null mailer_transport: smtp mailer_host: 127.0.0.1 mailer_user: null mailer_password: null locale: en secret: ThisTokenIsNotSoSecretChangeIt During development we change these parameters to the development database and mail servers. This file is checked into the source code repository. The problem is when we want to deploy to the production server. We are thinking about automating the deployment process by checking out the project from git and deploy it to the production server. The thing is that our project manager has to manually update these parameters after each update. The production database and mail servers parameters are confidential and only our project manager knows them. I need a way to automate this step and suggestion on where to store the production parameters until they are applied?

• How can I implement an escrow payment system in my website?

  Hello. I'd like to build a web service similar to kickstarter that allows users to pledge money to an idea, tho I'm unsure how I can implement this kind of payment system. If the the idea receives a specified amount of money, then the donors are charged. If it doesn't, the donors are not charged. I've done some preliminary research and have found Amazon Payments to be a possible solution provider for this, but I'm still unsure where to start with this and was hoping someone could point me in some right directions for how I can go about implementing this kind of payment structure in my web site. I should also note that this is primarily a prototype I'm building, so it's ok if the solution is limited to U.S. customers only. Also, I plan to build the site using Ruby on Rails. • Automatically adding CD box art so that I can put it on my iPod.

  I know it's possible to automatically find CD covers for albums, because rhythmbox is doing it on the fly. (When I listen to stuff, it finds the CD cover online...) What I want is to get this information onto my ipod. As it stands pretty much all my songs have the default blank CD cover... I use gtkpod to transfer music to it. This needs to be an automatic process, because I have a large music library and I'm lazy and it's not exactly an important thing... I rip CDs I buy with the basic CD extractor, so all the files are in a Artist/Album/song.mp3 structure. (Yes I know, mp3 is evil, but iPod doesn't like .ogg so whatever)

• Is the "One Description Table to rule them all" approch good?

  Long ago, I worked (as a client) with a software which use a centralized table for it's codified element. Here, as far as I remember, how the table look like : Table_Name (PK) Field_Name (PK) Code (PK) Sort_Order Description So, instead of creating a table every time they need a codified field, they where just adding row in this table with the new Table_Name and Field_Name. I'm sometime tempted to use this pattern in some database I design, but I have resisted to this as from now, I think there's something wrong with this, but I cannot put the finger on it. It is just because you land with some of the structure logic within the Data or something else?

• Is it safe to convert Windows file paths to Unix file paths with a simple replace?

  So for example say I had it so that all of my files will be transferred from a windows machine to a unix machine as such: C:\test\myFile.txt to {somewhere}/test/myFile.txt (drive letter is irrelevant at this point). Currently, our utility library that we wrote ourselves provides a method that does a simple replace of all back slashes with forward slashes: public String normalizePath(String path) { return path.replaceAll("\\", "/"); } Slashes are reserved and cannot be part of a file name, so the directory structure should be preserved. However, I'm not sure if there are other complications between windows and unix paths that I may need to worry about (eg: non-ascii names, etc)

• Is there a better way to have a two column website with header and footer, equal height columns and stretchy column widths? [closed]

  I wrote a website a while ago that is a little messy in how it does things. I used this CSS template and this equal height columns trick. I have not one but two container divs and I can't remember what they're doing. So I'm thinking of re structuring the thing from scratch, and possibly making use of the more "semantic" html5 tags like <nav> and so on at the same time. The question is: is there a better way to achieve a site structure with these properties: 2 equal height main columns (with widths as percentages of the available real estate, not explicitly stated) both a header and footer element that stretch the whole width of the total of the two main columns That allows the use of semantic html5 tags instead of meaningless divs

• Setting folder to be writable by apache/php in windows?

  I have a local test server, and I am attempting to write a file with PHP. I am getting a message that the folder (../uploads/) does not exist or I do not have permission. My directory structure is D:\xampp\htdocs\website\ //<--root D:\xampp\htdocs\website\library //<--where script runs D:\xampp\htdocs\website\uploads //<--where I'd like to save I know on a *nix server, I can just chmod the permission to 0777. What do I need to set on my windows box to give apache the ability to write a file?

• ".ts " files not recognised

  I have some .ts files (programs recorded from my Sharp TV on USB stick) that I want to store/play on my PC. However, although they are listed on the stick when its plugged in the PC nothing will recognize the files. I have tried VLC (the "slider" moves but there's no sound or video) and changed the extension to MPEG, MP2, etc. but no joy. I have tried converting the files with file converters and demuxers but none of these recognize the files. Are the files corrupted (they play on the TV) or do Sharp have a unique file structure? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• How does "rm" on a NTFS filesystem differs from Window's own implementation?

  I have an external USB disk with an NTFS filesystem on it. If I remove a file from Windows and I run one of the several "undelete" utilities (say, TestDisk) I can easily recover the file (because "it's still there but it's marked as deleted"). If I remove the file from Linux no utility (unless I use a deep-search signature-based one) can recover the file. Why? How is unlink implemented in Linux's NTFS file system code? It looks like it does not just "mark it as undeleted" but it wipes away some on-disk structure, is this the case?

• Calling Web Service with Complex Parameters in ADF Mobile

  Many of the SOAP based web services out there have parameters of specific object types - so not just simple String/int inputs. The ADF Web service data control makes it quite simple to interact with them. And this applies also in the case of ADF Mobile. Since there were several thread on OTN asking about this - I thought I'll do a quick demo to refresh people memory about how you pass these "complex" parameters to your Web service methods. By the way - this video is also relevant if you are not doing mobile development, you'll basically use the exact same process for building "regular web" ADF applications that access these types of Web services. One more thing you might want to do after you create the page is look at the binding tab to see the method call in there, and notice the parameters for it in the structure property. Go and look at their NDValue property to get the complete picture.

• Sending files via HTTP to web service

  I am bit frustrated at the lack of information about this online. Here is the issue: I am in charge of creating a iOS application which sends sound data back and forth between the server and the app. The Audio is in small files and thus does not need to be streamed over, but rather it can be sent. Right now, I am using a TCP server I wrote to handle applications like this. However, I want to keep the system as simple as possible and writing your own server and client sockets can get a bit complex and leaves room for crashes. Overall it slows down development because I need to account for packet structure and other things. My question is, can I write an ASPX or PHP web service that lets me pass the files back and forth through GET or POST?

I was wondering if there are any websites or resources for a full site peer code review. I'm new to Ruby specifically and want to make sure that my logic is following the overall best standards. I have a Question and Answer site about immigration. now I divided it into 2 sites: mysite.co.uk about immigration to UK mysite.com with sub domains for every country, Like: australia.mysite.com , sweden.mysite.com , ... now I had moved All the content from my first site into .co.uk and .com site and it's sub domains to fill theme.   I am trying to learn A* path finding. I am using this library - https://github.com/qiao/PathFinding.js But there is one thing I don't understand how to do. To find a path from player.x/player.y (player.x and player.y are both 0) to 10/10 I use this code var path = finder.findPath(player.x, player.y, 10, 10, grid); This gives an array of where I need to move, but how do I apply this array to my player.x and player.y? The path structure looks like this path = [[0, 0], [1, 0], [1, 1], ..., [10, 10]]

• Redirect from the main page on multilanguage site

  I've decided to start developing multilingual web site. Now I'm thinking about the structure. The idea is to use a simple algorithm to find out what language is most interesting to the visitor when he makes his first visit to the root page, and then forward him to the corresponding address, for example, http://example.com/en/ for English-speaking audience and http://example.com/ru/ for Russians. The question is, how search engines react on such redirect? If this approach does not take away site's reputation, which redirects should I choose: 301 or 302? I would be very grateful for the reasoned response.

  This is a naming things question. I am processing trees (XML documents), and there are often special rules applied to nodes based on structure. It's been very difficult coming up with concise naming conventions for some cases, namely for nodes in the first position among their siblings, along with some recursive relationship: Given an arbitrary node, I want to describe its first child, and then that node's first child, and so on recursively. Given another arbitrary node, I want to describe its parent if the parent is first among its siblings, and that parent's parent if it's first, and so on recursively. Is there existing terminology to describe these tree positions? How would you name a variable or function that captures one of these cases so that it's intuitive to an unfamiliar developer trying to understand an algorithm?

• How to avoid or minimise use of check/conditional statement in my scenario?

  I have scenario, where I got stream and I need to check for some value. If I got any new value I have to store it in any of data structure. It seems very easy, I can place conditional statement if-else or can use contain method of set/map to check either received is new or not. But the problem is checking will effect my application performance, in stream I will receive hundreds for value in second, if I start checking each and every value I received then for sure it effect performance. Anybody can suggest me any mechanism or algorithm to solve my issue, either by bypassing checks or at least minimize them?
