  I am looking at the example from http://www.javascriptkit.com/javatutors/oopjs.shtml var person = new Object() person.name = "Tim Scarfe" person.height = "6Ft" But there is no mention how to "free" it in order to avoid memory leak. Will the following code free it? person = null; How do you free a JavaScript Object using "new Object()? How do you free a JavaScript Array allocated using "new Array(10)"? How do you free a JavaScript JSON allocated using "var json = {"width": 480, "height": 640}"? Thanks in advance for your help.

• Code snippet manager suggestions

  I'm looking for a code snippet manager per the following: Usable on Windows stand-alone product desktop-based (not online) Free or paid Has PHP syntax highlighting I've found the following, but they don't seem to quite ring the bell (although they are good products): -- Snip-It Pro (not free) -- Has syntax highlighting, but seems "not there yet." -- The Guide (free: SourceForge) Tree-based info manager, no syntax highlighting. -- ActionOutline (free, upgrade not free) Tree-based info manager, no syntax highlighting. There have been questions about this before on stackoverflow, but the last one was over a year ago (over 400 answers), which is where I got the products listed above. Just wondering if I've overlooked anything produced more recently. Thanks for any help.

• Getting at fsid under Linux? Or an alternate way of identifying filesystems?

  In an environment with automounted home directories, such that the same filesystem exported by a fileserver may be mounted multiple times on the client, I would like to authoritatively be able to identify whether two mountpoints are in fact the same filesystem. That is, if the remote server exports: /home And the local client has: # mount fileserver:/home/l/lars on /home/lars type nfs (rw...) fileserver:/home/b/bob on /home/bob type nfs (rw...) I am looking for a way to identify that both /home/lars and /home/bob are in fact the same filesystem. In theory this is what the fsid result of the statvfs structure is for, but in all cases, for both local and remote filesystems, I am finding that the value of this structure member is 0. Is this some sort of client-side issue? Or do most modern NFS servers simply decline to provide a useful fsid? The end goal of all of this is to robustly interpret the output from the quota command for NFS filesystems. For example, given the example above, running quota as myself may return something like: Disk quotas for user lars (uid 6580): Filesystem blocks quota limit grace files quota limit grace otherserver:/vol/home0/a/alice 12 52428800 52428800 4 4294967295 4294967295 fileserver:/home/l/lars 9353032 9728000 10240000 124018 0 0 ...the problem here being that there exists a quota for me on otherserver which is visible in the results of the quota command, even though my home directory is actually on a different device. My plan was to look up the fsid for each mountpoint listed in the quota output and check to see if it matched the fsid associated with my home directory. It looks like this won't work, so...any suggestions?

• postfix not sending domain mail to mx

  I'm trying to get postfix to forward email to my domain which is hosted by gmail. As I don't have any users on my server nor do I want to. Here's how I have things set up.. LEt's say you and I have a domain called mcdonalds.com the registrar has mcdonalds.com MX records pointing to gmail. (everything works for like a year) Now we set up a server to host a website. Then we create a mail account called [email protected] and send mail locally from the server using roundcube. This works. We can send mail to cnn.com we can send mail to serverfault.com we can email any/everyone. BUT we cannot send mail to our own domain mcdonalds.com So I cannot email [email protected] I cannot email [email protected] I cannot email [email protected] It gives the error: SMTP Error (450): Failed to add recipient "[email protected]" (4.1.1 : Recipient address rejected: User unknown in virtual mailbox table). I'm guessing because it is looking at the local server to find the mailbox and it doesn't exist. So how to I tell the server for any mail going to mcdonalds.com for [email protected] to send to my external mail server and NOT to lookup on the local www box we set up with zpanel. Any ideas?

• Windows 7 - SBS - Why does copying a directory not include all subdirectories and files?

  Using Windows 7, fully updated... I have had some strange behaviour copying a whole user directory (e.g. "c:\users\bob" to "c:\backups\bob") I understand now that I should have used Easy Transfer or at least robocopy, but at the time all I wanted to do was backup the user's data before using the "Delete account" button. Unfortunately, I didn't check that my copy-paste had actually worked; all it had actually done was copied the appdata subdirectory of the user account. At the time of doing this backup I was logged in as the same user, bob (a local admin) in this example. When I discovered the missing files, I tried again using the domain admin account -- same story. Only appdata copied. No documents folders, nothing else. Then my boss tried, and it worked fine -- it copied all the files. Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V. I tried again... same profile... copied all the files. Same profile, same destination, same rights and permissions, same ownership, but different behaviour. Has anyone encountered this before and come up with a solution? BTW this was not using roaming profiles and the accounts are stored locally.

• Delphi Editbox causing unexplainable errors...

  On a form I have 8 edit boxes that I do the exact same thing with. They are arranged in 2 sets of 4, one is Upper and the other is Lower. I kept getting errors clearing all the edit boxes so I went through clearing them 1 by 1 and found that 1 of the edit boxes just didnt work and when I tried to run the program and change that exit box it caused the debugger to jump to a point in the code with the database (even though the edit boxes had nothing to do with the database and they arent in a procedure or stack with a database in it) and say the program has access violation there. So I then removed all mention of that edit box and the code worked perfectly again, so I deleted that edit box, copied and pasted another edit box and left all values the same, then went through my code and copied the code from the other sections and simply renamed it for the new Edit box and it STILL causes an error even though it is entirely new. I cannot figure it out so I ask you all, what the hell? • Easy way to convert c code to assembly?

  Is there an easy way (like a free program) that can covert c/c++ code to x86 assembly? I know that any c compiler does something very similar and that I can just compile the c code and then disassemble the complied executable, but that's kind of an overkill, all I want is to convert a few lines of code. Does anyone know of some program that can do that?

  Hi, I presented on Windows Phone 7 app development using Silverlight. Here are few pics from the event Windows Phone 7 development VIEW SLIDE SHOW DOWNLOAD ALL     I demonstrated the Visual studio, emulator capabilities/ features. An demo on Wp7 app communication with an OData Service, along with a demo on XNA app. There was lot of curious questions; I am listing them here because these keep on popping up again and again: 1. What tools does it takes to develop Wp7 app? Are they free? A typical WP7 app can be developed either using Silverlight or XNA. For developers, Visual Studio 2010 is a good choice as it provides an integrated development environment with lots of useful project templates; which makes the task really easy. For designers, Blend may be used to develop the UI in XAML. Both the tools are FREE (express version) to download and very intuitive to use. 2. What about the learning curve? If you know C#, (or any other programming language), learning curve is really flat. XAML (used for UI) may be new for you, but trust me; its very intuitive. Also you can use Microsoft Blend to generate the UI (XAML) for you. 3. How can I develop /test app without using actual device? How can I be sure my app runs as expected on actual device? The WP7 SDK comes along with an excellent emulator; which you can use for development/ testing on a computer. Later you can just change a setting and deploy the application on WP7. You will require Zune software for deploying the application on phone along with Developers key from WP7 marketplace. You can obtain key from marketplace by filling a form. The whole process for registering  is easy; just follow the steps on the site. 4. Which one should I use? Silverlight or XNA? Use Silverlight for enterprise/ business / utility apps. Use XNA for Games app. While each platform is capable / strong and may be used in conjunction as well; The methodologies used for development in these platforms are very different. XNA works on typical Do..While loop where as Silverlight works on event based methodology. 5. Where are the learning resources? Are they free? There is lots of stuff on WP7. Most of them are free. • Sparse virtual machine disk image resizing weirdness?

  I have a partitioned virtual machine disk image created by vmware. What I want to do is resize that by 10GB. The file size is showing as 64424509440. Or 60GB. So I ran this: dd if=/dev/zero of=./win7.img seek=146800640 count=0 It ran without errors and I can verify the new size is in fact 75161927680 bytes or 70GB. This is where it gets a little odd. I started the guest domain in xen which is a Windows 7 enterprise machine. What I was expecting to see in diskmgmt.msc is 2 partitions. 1 system partition at the start of around 100MB and near 60GB partition (which is C drive) followed by around 10GB of free space. Actually what I saw was a 70GB partition!?! That confused me... so I decided to run the Check Disk which when you set it on the C drive it asks you to reboot so it'll run on boot. So I did that and during the boot it ran the checks. It got all the way through stage 3 and didn't show any errors at all. Looked at the partitions in disk manager and now C drive has shrunk back to 60GB and there is no free space. What gives? Ok, I thought I'd try mounting it under Dom0 and examining it with fdisk. This is what I get when mounted sudo xl block-attach 0 tap:aio:/home/xen/vms/otoy_v1202-xen.img xvda w sudo fdisk -l /dev/xvda Disk /dev/xvda: 64.4 GB, 64424509440 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 7832 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disk identifier: 0x582dfc96 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/xvda1 * 1 13 102400 7 HPFS/NTFS Partition 1 does not end on cylinder boundary. /dev/xvda2 13 7833 62810112 7 HPFS/NTFS Note the cylinder boundary comment. When I run sudo cfdisk /dev/xvda I get: FATAL ERROR: Bad primary partition 1: Partition ends in the final partial cylinder Press any key to exit cfdisk So I guess this is a bigger problem than first thought. How can I fix this? EDIT: Oops, the cylinder boundary thing is not a problem at all since disks have used LBA etc. So that threw me for a moment... still the problem exists...   I'm having an annoying :) I use regexes from this: http://forums.codecharge.com/posts.php?post_id=77123 if you enter [url]www.bob.com[/url] it leads too http://localhost/test/www.bobsbar.com So I added before http://$1 in the replacement. That fix it but then [url]http://www.bob.com[/url] will lead to http://http://www.bobsbar.com How would you fix this? I want my users to be able to post links with AND without http:// and i want it to redirect to the site -_- Hope you understand this. Jorm

Replacing the ,  with \r\n is easy enough, as is the first replacement: Replace (^|\r\n)(\S+\s)([^,\r\n]*),\s With $1$2$3\r\n$2 But capturing the other names and applying the same prefix is what is eluding me today. Any suggestions?

• Trouble with inheritance

  I'm relatively new to programming so excuse me if I get some terms wrong (I've learned the concepts, I just haven't actually used most of them). Trouble: I currently have a class I'll call Bob its parent class is Cody, Cody has method call Foo(). I want Bob to have the Foo() method as well, except with a few extra lines of code. I've attempted to do Foo() : base(), however that doesn't seem to work like. Is there some simple solution to this?

  XmlElement has an "Order" attribute which you can use to specify the precise order of your properties (in relation to each other anyway) when serializing using XmlSerializer. Is there a similar thing for XmlAttribute? I just want to set the order of the attributes from something like <MyType end="bob" start="joe" /> to <MyType start="joe" end="bob" /> This is just for readability, my own benefit really.

Moreover, new elements can be added in any order later, so I would like to sort them by value using C preprocessor or maybe there is any compilers flag (GCC)?   I'm trying to make this 2-player web game application using Spring MVC. I have session-scoped beans Player and application-scoped bean GameList, which creates and stores Game instances and passes them to Players. On player creates a game and gets its ID from GameList and other player sends ID to GameList and gets Game instance. The Game instance has its players as attributes. Problem is that each player sees only himself instead of the other one. Example of what each player sees: First player (Alice) creates a game: Creator: Alice, Joiner: Empty Second player (Bob) joins the game: Creator: Bob, Joiner: Bob First player refreshes her browser Creator: Alice, Joiner: Alice What I want them to see is Creator: Alice, Joiner: Bob. Easy way to achieve this is saving information about players instead of references to players, but the game object needs to call methods on its player objects, so this is not a solution. I think it's because of aop:scoped-proxy of session-scoped Player bean. If I understand this, the Game object has reference to proxy, which refers to Player object of current session.   I have a list of tuples. [ "Bob": 3, "Alice: 2, "Jane": 1, ] When incrementing the counts "Alice" += 2 the order should be maintained: [ "Alice: 4, "Bob": 3, "Jane": 1, ] When all is in memory there rather simple ways (some more or some less) to efficiently implement this. (using an index, insert-sort etc) The question though is: What's the most promising approach when the list does not fit into memory. Bonus question: What if not even the index fits into memory? How would you approach this?
