  • IE8 rendering of local-files is wrong

    - by Eric
It appears that IE8 is not rendering properly a local file: Consider this simple webpage: http://sayang.free.fr/ie8render.html (html code below) extracted from a w3c tutorial on opacity. Save it locally and display it again: the local file has no opacity! That's very annoying, especially when one wants to design complex pages on prototypes placed in local files. Do you have a solution to that ? <html> <head> <title>IE8 Local File</title> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1" /> <meta http-equiv="pragma" content="no-cache" /> <meta http-equiv="cache-control" content="no-cache" /> <meta http-equiv="expires" content="-1" /> <style type="text/css"> div.background { width: 500px; height: 250px; background: url(http://www.w3schools.com/css/klematis.jpg) repeat; border: 2px solid black; } div.transbox { width: 400px; height: 180px; margin: 30px 50px; background-color: #ffffff; border: 1px solid black; /* for IE */ filter:alpha(opacity=60); /* CSS3 standard */ opacity:0.6; } div.transbox p { margin: 30px 40px; font-weight: bold; color: #000000; } </style> </head> <body> <h2>Save this file locally and open it to see the difference</h2> <div class="background"> <div class="transbox"> <p>This is some text that is placed in the transparent box. This is some text that is placed in the transparent box. This is some text that is placed in the transparent box. This is some text that is placed in the transparent box. This is some text that is placed in the transparent box.</p> </div> </div> </body> </html>

  • Wix Bootstrapper - difficulty detecting if software is already installed c++ redistributable, sql server ce 3.5 sp2

    - by gdeck
    I apologize if this is answered elsewhere. So far (thanks to a post from Rob Mensching), my code will detect .NET 4.0 if it's installed and it'll pass right over it. I'm not able to correctly detect Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable OR Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 Service Pack 2. My code is below. I'm learning, so I would appreciate as much constructive criticism as possible. <!--Search for .NET 4.0--> <util:RegistrySearch Id="NETFRAMEWORK40" Root="HKLM" Key="SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Net Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full" Value="Install" Variable="NETFRAMEWORK40" Result="value"/> <!--Search for Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable--> <util:RegistrySearch Id="SearchForCPP2010X86" Root="HKLM" Key="SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualStudio\10.0\VC\VCRedist\x86" Value="Install" Variable="CPP2010Redist" Result="exists"/> <!--Search for Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 Service Pack 2--> <util:RegistrySearch Id="SearchForSQLSvrCE35SP2" Root="HKLM" Key="SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v3.5\ENU" Value="Install" Variable="SQLSvrCE35SP2" Result="exists"/> <Chain> <!-- Install .Net 4 Full --> <PackageGroupRef Id="Net4Full"/> <!-- Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable --> <PackageGroupRef Id="MSVisCPP2010x86Redist"/> <!-- Install Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 Service Pack 2 --> <PackageGroupRef Id="SQLExpressCE"/> </Chain> <!--Install .NET 4.0--> <PackageGroup Id="Net4Full"> <ExePackage Id="Net4Full" Name="Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 Setup" Cache="no" Compressed="yes" PerMachine="yes" Permanent="yes" Vital="yes" SourceFile="BootstrapperLibrary\dotNetFx40_Full_setup.exe" DetectCondition="NETFRAMEWORK40"/> </PackageGroup> <!--Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable--> <PackageGroup Id="MSVisCPP2010x86Redist"> <ExePackage Id="MSVisCPP2010x86Redis" Name="Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable " Cache="no" Compressed="yes" PerMachine="yes" Permanent="yes" Vital="yes" SourceFile="BootstrapperLibrary\vcredist_x86.exe" DetectCondition="CPP2010Redist"/> </PackageGroup> <!--Install Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 Service Pack 2--> <PackageGroup Id="SQLExpressCE"> <ExePackage Id="SQLExpressCE" Name="Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 Service Pack 2 Setup" Cache="no" Compressed="yes" PerMachine="yes" Permanent="yes" Vital="yes" SourceFile="BootstrapperLibrary\SSCERuntime-ENU.exe"/> </PackageGroup>

  • accessing pdf via https URL

    - by Paul
I send out a newsletter email containing URLs to a https website that then redirects to a pdf document. On first invocation of a URL the user is prompted with the typical https browser "security alert" popup, on selecting "Yes" the display of the PDF fails. The HTTP Header on the failed response is: HTTP/1.1 200 OK Server: ECS/HTTP-Server Date: Tue, 16 Mar 2010 15:57:26 GMT Content-type: application/pdf Content-language: en-US Set-cookie: JSESSIONID=0000r111cRz1Vc-PtCJg8Cdu4eR:-1; Path=/ Expires: Thu, 01 Dec 1994 16:00:00 GMT Cache-control: no-cache="set-cookie, set-cookie2" Connection: close Subsequent invocations of the URL successfully opens the PDF (at this point we have the session id cookie set by the initial failed request). The HTTP Header on the successful response is: HTTP/1.1 200 OK Server: ECS/HTTP-Server Date: Tue, 16 Mar 2010 16:53:03 GMT Content-type: application/pdf Content-language: en-US Connection: close The email client is Lotus Notes 6.5 which launches an IE6 browser Any ideas?

  • Does the iPhone compress images saved within my app's documents directory?

    - by Jane Sales
We are caching images downloaded from our server. We write them to our local storage like this: NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSCachesDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0] ; NSString* folder = [[documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"flook.images"] retain]; NSString* fileName = [folder stringByAppendingFormat:@"/%@", aBaseFilename]; BOOL writeSuccess = [anImageData writeToFile:fileName atomically:NO]; The downloaded images are always the expected size, around 45-85KB. Later, we read images from our cache like this: NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSCachesDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0] ; NSString* folder = [[documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"flook.images"] retain]; NSString* fileName = [folder stringByAppendingFormat:@"/%@", aBaseFilename]; image = [UIImage imageWithContentsOfFile:fileName]; Occasionally, the images returned from this cache read are much smaller because they are much more compressed - around 5-10KB. Has the OS done this to us?

  • Why does dojo parsing time depend on css and images availability?

    - by Kniganapolke
I have been profiling javascript on my page that uses dojo widgets. I don't use explicit parsing - the parser runs on page load. What I noticed is that if I clear browser cache before refreshing the page, dojo parsing takes much more time than if all the files are already cached. Note that we build all the required dojo modules into a layer (a single file), so we don't lazy-load any js files. I wonder if dojo parsing process depends on images and css resources, as far as I know it only instantiates widgets and injects dom nodes. Do you have any ideas why dojo parser runs longer (2-3 times longer in my case) when the cache is cleared?

  • Best practices managing JavaScript on a single-page app

    - by seanmonstar
With a single page app, where I change the hash and load and change only the content of the page, I'm trying to decide on how to manage the JavaScript that each "page" might need. I've already got a History module monitoring the location hash which could look like domain.com/#/company/about, and a Page class that will use XHR to get the content and insert it into the content area. function onHashChange(hash) { var skipCache = false; if(hash in noCacheList) { skipCache = true; } new Page(hash, skipCache).insert(); } // Page.js var _pageCache = {}; function Page(url, skipCache) { if(!skipCache && (url in _pageCache)) { return _pageCache[url]; } this.url = url; this.load(); } The cache should let pages that have already been loaded skip the XHR. I also am storing the content into a documentFragment, and then pulling the current content out of the document when I insert the new Page, so I the browser will only have to build the DOM for the fragment once. Skipping the cache could be desired if the page has time sensitive data. Here's what I need help deciding on: It's very likely that any of the pages that get loaded will have some of their own JavaScript to control the page. Like if the page will use Tabs, needs a slide show, has some sort of animation, has an ajax form, or what-have-you. What exactly is the best way to go around loading that JavaScript into the page? Include the script tags in the documentFragment I get back from the XHR? What if I need to skip the cache, and re-download the fragment. I feel the exact same JavaScript being called a second time might cause conflicts, like redeclaring the same variables. Would the better way be to attach the scripts to the head when grabbing the new Page? That would require the original page know all the assets that every other page might need. And besides knowing the best way to include everything, won't I need to worry about memory management, and possible leaks of loading so many different JavaScript bits into a single page instance?

  • Can Symfony simply reload a page request?

    - by Rob Wilkerson
I have an app that receives a request from another app. It detects a value on the query string, checks that value against a cached value and, if they don't match, it needs to clear its cache and reload the page (establishing a new cache). Unfortunately, I can't find a way to tell Symfony to redirect to the current page in exactly the same format (protocol, URI path, query string, etc.). What am I missing? This is all happening in a filter on isFirstCall(). Thanks.

  • MVC Partial View Not Refreshing when using JSON data

    - by 40-Love
    I have a dropdown that I'm using to refresh a div with checkboxes. I am trying to figure out why my view is not refreshing if I pass in data in JSON format. If I pass in just a regular string, the view refreshes. If I pass in JSON data, the view does not refresh. If I step through the code in the Partial view, I can see the correct number of records are being passed in, however the view doesn't get refreshed with the correct number of checkboxes. I tried to add some cache directives, it didn't work. This doesn't work: $(function () { $('#ddlMoveToListNames').change(function () { var item = $(this).val(); var selectedListID = $('#ddlListNames').val(); var checkValues = $('input[name=c]:checked').map(function () { return $(this).val(); }).toArray(); $.ajax({ url: '@Url.Action("Test1", "WordList")', type: 'POST', cache: false, data: JSON.stringify({ words: checkValues, moveToListID: item, selectedListID: selectedListID }), dataType: 'json', contentType: 'application/json; charset=utf-8', success: function (result) { } }) .done(function (partialViewResult) { $("#divCheckBoxes").replaceWith(partialViewResult); }); }); }); This works: $(function () { $('#ddlMoveToListNames').change(function () { var item = $(this).val(); var selectedListID = $('#ddlListNames').val(); var checkValues = $('input[name=c]:checked').map(function () { return $(this).val(); }).toArray(); $.ajax({ url: '@Url.Action("Test1", "WordList")', type: 'POST', cache: false, data: { selectedListID: item }, success: function (result) { } }) .done(function (partialViewResult) { $("#divCheckBoxes").replaceWith(partialViewResult); }); }); }); Partial View: @model WLWeb.Models.MyModel <div id="divCheckBoxes"> @foreach (var item in Model.vwWordList) { @Html.Raw("<label><input type='checkbox' value='" + @Html.DisplayFor(modelItem => item.Word) + "' name='c'> " + @Html.DisplayFor(modelItem => item.Word) + "</label>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;"); } </div> Controller: [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] [OutputCache(NoStore = true, Duration = 0, VaryByParam = "*")] public PartialViewResult Test1(MyModel vm, string[] words, string moveToListID, string selectedListID) { int listNameID = Convert.ToInt32(moveToListID); List<vwWordList> lst = db.vwWordLists.Where(s => s.Word.StartsWith("wa") && s.ListID == listNameID).ToList(); vm.vwWordList = lst; return PartialView("Partial1", vm); } View: @Html.DropDownListFor(x => Model.FilterViewModel.MoveToListNameID, Model.FilterViewModel.MoveToListNameList, new { @id = "ddlMoveToListNames", style = "width:100px;" })

  • ImageAdapter and ListView (java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: bitmap size exceeds VM budget)

    - by theDude
Hi, I'm using ListView to display images which I provide through an ImageAdapter class. it works great on my device (and on many other devices which I tested it on), but somehow when I'm using the emulator and I'm long-pressing the up/down button - I'm getting an outOfMemory error after 10-15 seconds. I tried clearing cache, canceling cache, etc. - nothing helped. I know this crash is pretty rare (i couldn't reproduced it on any "real" device), but I can see on DDMS that "GC freed" are getting bigger during that long press and I can't find a way to clear them. Any help will be appreciated, Tnx.

  • Can we view objects in the JVM memory?

    - by Sebastien Lorber
Hey, At work we found that on some instances (particulary the slow ones) we have a different behaviour, acquired at the reboot. We guess a cache is not initialized correctly, or maybe a concurrency problem... Anyway it's not reproductible in any other env than production. We actually don't have loggers to activate... it's an old component... Thus i'd like to know if there are tools that can help us to see the different objets present in the JVM memory in order to check the content of the cache... Thank you!

    - by Shadi Almosri
Hiya All, I have a rather strange bug which i can't make sense of that is apearing in webkit based browsers (chrome and safari). When this page http://bluprintliving.mammalworld.com/turnmill-street loads for the first time the content seems to jump out of the container but only at the end of the render. on refresh it stays in and behaves. Generally the page in cache and out of cache looks different. Anyone have any ideas or clues they can shed on this issue? Much appreciated. • Arbitrary Form Processing with Drupal

    - by Aaron
I am writing a module for my organization to cache XML feeds to static files to an arbitrary place on our webserver. I am new at Drupal development, and would like to know if I am approaching this the right way. Basically I: Expose a url via the menu hook, where a user can enter in a an output directory on the webserver and press the "dump" button and then have PHP go to drupal and get the feed xml. I don't need help with that functionality, because I actually have a prototype working in Python (outside of Drupal).. Provide a callback for the form where I can do my logic, using the form parameters. Here's the menu hook: function ncbi_cache_files_menu() { $items = array(); $items['admin/content/ncbi_cache_files'] = array( 'title' => 'NCBI Cache File Module', 'description' => 'Cache Guide static content to files', 'page callback' => 'drupal_get_form', 'page arguments' => array( 'ncbi_cache_files_show_submit'), 'access arguments' => array( 'administer site configuration' ), 'type' => MENU_NORMAL_ITEM, ); return $items; } I generate the form in: function ncbi_cache_files_show_submit() { $DEFAULT_OUT = 'http://myorg/foo'; $form[ 'ncbi_cache_files' ] = array( '#type' => 'textfield', '#title' => t('Output Directory'), '#description' => t('Where you want the static files to be dumped. This should be a directory that www has write access to, and should be accessible from the foo server'), '#default_value' => t( $DEFAULT_OUT ), '#size' => strlen( $DEFAULT_OUT ) + 5, ); $form['dump'] = array( '#type' => 'submit', '#value' => 'Dump', '#submit' => array( 'ncbi_cache_files_dump'), ); return system_settings_form( $form ); } Then the functionality is in the callback: function ncbi_cache_files_dump( $p, $q) { //dpm( get_defined_vars() ); $outdir = $p['ncbi_cache_files']['#post']['ncbi_cache_files']; drupal_set_message('outdir: ' . $outdir ); } The question: Is this a decent way of processing an arbitrary form in Drupal? I not really need to listen for any drupal hooks, because I am basically just doing some URL and file processing. What are those arguments that I'm getting in the callback ($q)? That's the form array I guess, with the post values? Is this the best way to get the form parameters to work on? Thanks for any advice.

  • Hashing a python method to regenerate output when method is modified

    - by Seth Johnson
I have a python method that has a deterministic result. It takes a long time to run and generates a large output: def time_consuming_method(): # lots_of_computing_time to come up with the_result return the_result I modify time_consuming_method from time to time, but I would like to avoid having it run again while it's unchanged. [Time_consuming_method only depends on functions that are immutable for the purposes considered here; i.e. it might have functions from Python libraries but not from other pieces of my code that I'd change.] The solution that suggests itself to me is to cache the output and also cache some "hash" of the function. If the hash changes, the function will have been modified, and we have to re-generate the output. Is this possible or a ridiculous idea? If this isn't a terrible idea, is the best implementation to write f = """ def ridiculous_method(): a = # # lots_of_computing_time return a """ , use the hashlib module to compute a hash for f, and use compile or eval to run it as code?

  • How to reliably measure available memory in Linux?

    - by Alex B
Linux /proc/meminfo shows a number of memory usage statistics. MemTotal: 4040732 kB MemFree: 23160 kB Buffers: 163340 kB Cached: 3707080 kB SwapCached: 0 kB Active: 1129324 kB Inactive: 2762912 kB There is quite a bit of overlap between them. For example, as far as I understand, there can be active page cache (belongs to "cached" and "active") and inactive page cache ("inactive" + "cached"). What I want to do is to measure "free" memory, but in a way that it includes used pages that are likely to be dropped without a significant impact on overall system's performance. At first, I was inclined to use "free" + "inactive", but Linux's "free" utility uses "free" + "cached" in its "buffer-adjusted" display, so I am curious what a better approach is. When the kernel runs out of memory, what is the priority of pages to drop and what is the more appropriate metric to measure available memory?

  • Android: making a custom ListView independent of adapters ?

    - by wei
I am adding a local database as a cache to a remote web service in my android application to answer queries. I used ArrayAdapters before for list views to display the results from the web service. Now with a database cache, the result could be either a Cursor(from database) or a List(from web), which means the adapter can be CursorAdapter or ArrayAdapter too. Creating two adapters for one query doesn't seem to be a good idea. So I am wondering what would be the best way to refactor my current code to add this database feature? Thanks,

  • ghc can't find my cabal installed packages

    - by nont
I've installed ghc 6.12.3, and then the Haskell Platform. I'm trying to compile a test program: $ ghc test.hs test.hs:3:0: Failed to load interface for `Bindings': Use -v to see a list of the files searched for. so, naturally, I do cabal install Bindings Which works fine, and places the package in ~/.cabal/lib/bindings-0.1.2 The problem is, that when I go to compile again with ghc, it still doesn't find the package I've installed with cabal. compiling in verbose mode gives: ghc -v test.hs Using binary package database: /home/ludflu/ghc/lib/ghc-6.12.3/package.conf.d/package.cache Using binary package database: /home/ludflu/.ghc/x86_64-linux 6.12.3/package.conf.d/package.cache As suggested by another stackoverflow user, I tried: ghc-pkg describe rts > rts.pkg vi rts.pkg # add the /home/ludflu/.cabal/lib to `library-dirs` field ghc-pkg update rts.pkg But to no avail. How to I add the .cabal to the list of package directories to search? Thank you!

  • ActionBarSherlock + ViewPager caching more then just prev/next view

    - by miroslavign
on the page: onCreate called for two tabs each time one tab is selected there is explained how the ABS(actually ViewPager) is working in order for ViewPager to be able to do a scrolling. It is clear that at least a prev/next page need all to be created at the same time. Would it be possible to "cache" more than just prev/next Views(Fragments), in a way: I am on Page 1 and there I have a network call to fetch some data(doing this in Activity, not in Fragment - btw. is this OK?) switch to Page 2, and then switch to Page 3, and then switch to Page 1 = Here my page is recreated (using some caching though, BUT, I do not need any recreation if possible) So, it would be nice to cache all the pages. How to accomplish this If possible in current version (4), or this would be some new feature? Or even better question, how to postpond/disable destroying of views?

  • Java DAO caching

    - by santiagobasulto
I'm developing a medium Java app, and i'm facing a small problem due to my lack of experience. I've a custom DAO, which gets "Article" objects from the Database. I've the Article class, and the DAO has a method called getArticle(int id), this method returns an Article. The Article has a Category object, and I'm using lazy loading. So, when I request for an article's category (Article a = new Article(); a.getCategory();) the Article class gets the Category from the DAO and then returns it. I'm now thinking to cache it, so when I request multiple times to an article's category, the database is only queried one time. My question is: where should I put that cache? I can put it on the Article class (in the DTO), or I can put it on the DAO class. What do you say?

We are now moving to CF 9 and it seems that the baked-in version of EHCache with CF 9 is actually conflicting with our EHCache setup. So is there: Any way to disable the baked-in version of EHCache? This would be a temporary solution. If we use the CF9 baked-in caching, is there any way to specify more than one cache in ehcache.xml and most importantly, to put into that specific cache via the tag? Many thanks in advance.

  • Get expiration time of a memcache item in php?

    - by Jonatan Littke
Hey. I'm caching tweets on my site (with 30 min expiration time). When the cache is empty, the first user to find out will repopulate it. However, at that time the Twitter API may return a 200. In that case I'd like to prolong the previous data for another 30 mins. But the previous data will already be lost. So instead I'd like to look into repopulating the cache, say, 5 minutes before expiration time so that I don't lose any date. So how do I know the expiration time of an item when using php's memcache::get()? Also, is there a better way of doing this?
