• Using VMware's ESXi, can I plug in 30 USB Wireless adapters and allow each of 30 VMs one?

  I'm assuming ESXi will act very similarly to VMware Workstation or other products, so answers based on knowledge of those programs might also help. I want to plug in 30 USB Wireless or Ethernet adapters into my server, and let each VM access one and only one of these devices. Unfortunately, I don't have the hardware to just try it out as the purchase of hubs and adapters hinges on the result of this question. The answer could be a resounding "yes, easy!" and that would be great. I couldn't find any answers to this question with google, and it's possible that this is because it's so easy to do. Thanks!

• Dell b1160w not working in 14.04

  I originally installed the dell b1160w printer on ubuntu 12.04. It worked as expected. A few months ago I upgraded to ubuntu 14.04 and now I can't get the printer to work. I looked at the driver information on the dell site. They have not updated their driver since 2013 so 12.04 is the latest version with a supported driver. Is there a work around for this problem, like a generic driver that I can use or a way to install whatever printer interface ubuntu 12.04 was using? I have a windows virtual box. I can get it to work through there, but it's inconvenient to pull up my virtual box and transfer the files over to it anytime I want to print.

• I need a backend system that is integrated with web services, is there an open source solution?

  I'm basically familiar with what I need in order to setup web services to talk with a centralized db, but if I don't have to go through and do all the work, I'd rather not. Is there an open source solution that would allow me to easily integrate web services for data transfer to a central db? I want to make a site that is powered by a db that can also be accessed by other things like mobile apps for example. What are the steps involved in setting up such a site? Any help is appreciated! • How can I teleport seamlessly, without using interpolation?

  I've been implementing Bukkit plugin for creating toggleable in-game warping areas that will teleport any catched entity to other similar area. I was going to implement concept of non-Euclidean maze using this plugin, but, unfortunately, I've discovered that doing Entity.teleport() causes client to interpolate movement while teleporting, so player slides towards target like Enderman and receives screen updates, so for a split second all underground stuff is visible. While for "just teleport me where I want" usage this is just fine, it ruins whole idea of seamless teleporting, as player can clearly see when transfer happened even without need to look at debug screen. Is there possibility to somehow disable interpolating while teleporting without modifying client, or maybe prevent client from updating screen while it's being teleported?

• Use Windows 7 offline sync with external usb hd

  Yeah, truly the whole question in the header. Is there a way to use Windows 7 offline sync (which we know from network mapped drives) with a external usb hd? When not, are there similar built in tools or good third party tools? My scenario: I want to buy a ultrabook with SSD which is mostly limited in space. So I'm going to put all files to a external HD and only store current projects on the local SSD. Let's say I have to change project. It would be easy just change sync folders and have the second project synced to my hd too. With network mapped drives it's such easy. Paths do not differ if the drive is offline so in most situations you don't take notice if the folder is offline. And you only have to activate offline file for the folders you courrently need for work. So is there a similar solution for usb hard drives?

• GPG Workflow in 11.04

  At work we handle the transfer of small bits of sensitive data with GPG, usually posted on a secure internal website. Until Firefox 4 was released, we used FireGPG for inline decryption; however the IPC libraries that it relied upon were no longer present in FF4, making it unusable and it will no longer install in FF5. Currently I'm manually pasting the GPG blocks into a text file, then using the Nautilus context-menu plugin or the command line to decrypt the contents of the file. When we're handling large amount of these small files throughout the day this starts to become a real chore. I've looked around but can't seem to find much information on useful GPG clients in Ubuntu. A client that allowed me to paste in a GPG block and instantly decrypt it, and also paste in plaintext and easily encrypt it for multiple recipients would be ideal. So my question is does this exist? I can't seem to find anything about this with obvious searches on Google, so hopefully someone here can help, or offer an alternative workflow.

• Making document storage in Sharepoint a breeze (leave the Web UI behind)

  Hey everyone, I know many of us regularly use Sharepoint for document storage in order to make documents available to several people, have it version controlled, etc.  Doing this through the Web UI can be a real headache, especially when you have multiple documents you want to modify or upload, or when IE isn’t your default browser.  Luckily we can access the Sharepoint library like a regular network drive if we like. Open Sharepoint in Internet Explorer (other browsers don’t support the Open with Explorer functionality), navigate to wherever your documents are stored, choose the Library tab, and then click Open with Explorer. This will open the document storage in Explorer and you can interact with the documents just like they were on any other network drive J  This makes uploading large numbers of documents or directory structures super easy (a simple copy-paste), and modifying your files nice and easy. As an added bonus, you can drag and drop that location from the address bar in Explorer to the Favorites menu so that it’s always easily accessible and you can leave the Sharepoint Web UI behind completely for modifying your documents.  Just click on the new favorite to go straight to your documents.   You can even map this folder location as a network drive if you want to have it show up as another drive (e.g N: drive).   I love Google Analytics!  It helps me so much during my day-to-day maintenance of Geekswithblogs.net and our other sites.  I can see so much data about our visitors and come up with new ways of delivering more content to our readers so they can really get the most out of our community.  Browsers and Browser Versions is a big indicator for me to help decide what we can support and what we need to be testing with.  The clear browsers of choice right now are Chrome, IE, and Firefox taking up 94.1%.  The next browser is Safari at 2.71%.  What this really brings to my attention besides I better test well with Chrome, Firefox, and IE is that we are definitely missing an opportunity with Mobile devices.  We really need to kick up the heat when it comes to a mobile presence with Geekswithblogs.net as a community and the blogs that are on this site.  We need easy discovery of new content and easy tracking of what I like.  I am definitely on mission to make this happen and it will be a phased approach, but I want to see these numbers changes since most of us have 2 or 3 mobile devices we use for Social activities, but tools are lacking for interacting with technical data besides RSS readers.   I've created a simple web application, a self-contained tool with a user system. I host it publicly for everyone to use, but I've gotten some requests to allow companies to host the entire application privately on their internal systems. I have no idea what I'm doing - I have no experience with deployment or server stuff. I'm just some person who learned enough JS and PHP to make a tool for my own needs. The application runs with Apache, MySQL, and PHP. What's the best way to package my application to let others run it privately? I'm assuming there's better options than just sending them all the source code. I'd like to find a solution that is: Does not require support to set up (I'm just a single developer without much free time) Easy to configure Easy to update Does there exist some one-size-fits all thing that I can give to someone, they can install it, and bam, now when they go to http://myapplication/ on their intranet, it works? • Huge company wants my domain name

  Not sure if this is the right place to ask but I'll give it a go. I simply require a little advice; A very large hosted e-commerce platform emailed me a while back and basically asked me to transfer my domain name to them. They made no offer but simply said 'why not change your domain to xx - xx instaead of xxxx' Not they own all the equivalent names in .com, .org all of them apart from my .co.uk I am a registered partner of theirs and my website is a portfolio of all my themes but I also get a lot of enquires through it. I had heard rumors this company is opening an office in the UK! I'm right in thinking I shouldn't just roll over right? I've put some much effort in to SEO and building my reputation... I can't just give it up surly?

• Ubuntu 12.10 installation. Hit or miss Booting

  I just recently downloaded and installed Ubuntu 12.10. I also completely wiped the laptop. The Ubuntu OS will only boot part of the time but never on the first time. Always, the first start up will automatically go to a purple screen and stay there. At first I waited for 45 minutes and nothing changed. Once I held down the power button to turn it off, I turned it back on to see the Asus screen followed by the grub menu. I can select "Ubuntu" and then there is a white box blinking in the top left corner. Then, it will either keep blinking or transfer to the Ubuntu loading screen(everything works fine if it gets to the loading screen). This has never happened before with prior versions of Ubuntu. Any ideas are helpful. Thanks!

• How can I migrate mails from Yahoo! Mail to Google Apps?

  We'd like to move from using Yahoo! Mail to our Google Apps account. It'd be great to be able to migrate all the mails across from the old accounts to the new. If we were using Gmail accounts this would be easy as the migration is offered by Google, for some reason they don't offer this to those using custom domains. As far as I know Yahoo! don't offer POP or IMAP access to non-paying customers and I'd rather not pay $20 per account that I want to migrate. Anyone know of any easy and cheap solutions?

• Am I sending large amounts of data sensibly?

  I am about to design a video conversion service, that is scalable on the conversion side. The architecture is as follows: Webpage for video upload When done, a message gets sent out to one of several resizing servers The server locates the video, saves it on disk, and converts it to several formats and resolutions The resizing server uploads the output to a content server, and messages back that the conversion is done. Messaging is something I have covered, but right now I am transferring via FTP, and wonder if there is a better way? is there something faster, or more reliable? All the servers will be sitting in the same gigabit switch or neighboring switch, so fast transfer is expected.

• Managing MS Exchange server-side email rules on Mac OS X?

  Has anybody found an easy way to manage server-side rules from Mac OS X? Here's a brief list of what I know doesn't work: Entourage 2008 - it supports client rules, but not server rules. No good, there are certain actions that should happen before I open my laptop or check my email on my iPhone. Apple Mail - same as Entourage, but at least I don't get as frustrated since, unlike Entourage, this isn't a Microsoft product. Web mail (aka Outlook Web Access) - perhaps you can manage rule in the fancy version which Exchange serves to IE, but not with the browsers available on a Mac. I manage this now by launching a VMWare virtual machine running Windows XP and Outlook. I don't count that as an easy way. Update, post release of Office 2011 Does MS Outlook 2011 have the ability to manage server-side rules? Update, post installation of Office 2011 No. Outlook 2011 doesn't have this ability. I've already removed my account from Outlook and switched back to Apple Mail and iCal

• Point domain to new host - changed nameservers, now what?

  This is driving me nuts, because I know I'm missing something simple. I've read numerous articles/posts about how to point (not transfer) your domain to a new web host. They all say to change the name server settings at your old host, so here is what I did: On old host (1and1.com) changed the name server settings to those of my new host (inmotionhosting.com) like below: Domain name : mydomain.com Name server 1: ns.inmotionhosting.com Name server 2: ns2.inmotionhosting.com ... and confirmed this is active (did it a couple days ago) This is where every post/article I've found stops. They imply this is all that needs to be done. But how does the new host know to point the domain to my account, and the directory in my account I want it work from?? There's go to be something else to be done - just pointing to the generic name servers of the new host can't be all there is to it. Thanks in advance...I'm bewildered...

• Determining if a visitor left your server

  We have an Apache server running a PHP website. The site is an e-commerce shop. We currently use Barclays as the payment provider but are seeing a lot of customers drop out at the point at which we transfer them to the payment gateway (hosted with Barclays) I can see specific instances in the shop where orders have been created but not paid/failed but I need to ascertain if the user has definitely left our server (or just failed to reach Barclays). Is there anything in any of the server/access logs that states when a user transferred to a different domain?

• Whats the best way to deal with backups for my php/mysql application

  I'm creating php application for my client and now thinking what would be the best way to do backups, automatically if possible? I don't have much experience in this area and in case something goes wrong, or if I need to migrate, I would like to have fast way of getting it all back online. I understand "something goes wrong" is a very wide term, but lets say that someone hacks my site and wipes out database and all the files. My app. is written in php/mysql and I got access to cpanel (hosted with justhost.com if that makes any difference :). I used Joomla and it has JoomlaPack that does complete backup almost automatically and in case site fails, its easy to revert, or migrate if necessary. Is there anything like that for my configuration that would make reverting/migration, easy?
