  • Convert in-memory pdf to byte[]

    - by daft
I'm writing a websercive in C# that will generate pdf-files and send back to the caller as a byte[]. The pdf file is generated using a third party component, but I'm struggling with the conversion. The pdf is just an in-memory object in the web service, and I can't find any good way of converting the generated pdf to a byte[] before returning it to the caller. Any advice on this?

  • Render SSRS .RDL to PDF and just open it.

    - by FelipeFiali
I tried to be the most descriptive I could. Ok, so since I've never done anything like this before, I guess it's better to ask before starting at all to just don't get the whole process wrong. We have a report that has to be called from an ASP.NET application, it could be a simple button. Through the code-behind, I gotta pass in a paramater, render the report, and don't save it anywhere, just open it to the user, as a .pdf file so he could save or print it. So please, give me links or tips, I'm reading MSDN documentation right now... If you have any suggestion on other technologies, as for the report, I'd like to hear it, but it has to be called from ASP.NET. Thanks in advance!

  • How to change line thickness in iText? (iText is Java pdf framework)

    - by drasto
    I'm drawing images to pdf using Java framework iText. I need to draw lines of specified width. There is a method setLineWidth(float width) in class PdfContentByte that should change it. However no matter what value I pass as its parameter the lines drawn are always extra thin. There is following line in javadoc of setLineWidth: The line width specifies the thickness of the line used to stroke a path and is measured in user space units. I don't know what is "space unit". Everything else in iText seems to be measured in point(around 1/72 inch). I cant find any reference to what are those "space units" and how to change them. code: to.setLineWidth(thickness); to.moveTo(x, y); to.lineTo(x + 100, y + 100);

  • FOSS HTML to PDF in Python, .Net or command line?

    - by jle
I have google as much as I possible, checked stackoverflow several times, and yet I can not find a good html to pdf converter that can handle css. Is there a free and open source solution (even for commercial usage)? There are many solutions, with huge variety of price ranges, but I was looking for something open source and free. I have tried PISA for Python and it works fairly well, but is not free for commercial usage. Is there anything for .Net? I have not had success with iTextSharp.

  • Edit ePub eBooks with Your Favorite HTML Editor

    - by Matthew Guay
ePub eBooks are increasingly popular today, but often they’ve been made by converting other file formats. Here’s how you can edit ePub books to remove irregularities and make them better for reading on your devices. ePub’s are actually a zip file containing images, XHTML files with your text, and more with the .epub extension. You can make them better by editing the XHTML files directly.  Code gurus can edit the code directly, but even if you’ve never edited HTML, you can still quickly make changes with a WYSIWYG editor. Extract the Files from your ePub eBook As mentioned before, ePub files are actually renamed zip files.  So first let’s get all of the files in your ePub eBook accessible.  Find an eBook you want to edit and then change the file extension to .zip. If you don’t see the file extensions, click Organize in the menu bar and select Folder and search options. Select the View tab, and then uncheck the box beside Hide extensions for known file types.  Click Ok, and then change the file type as above. Windows will warn you about changing the file type; click Yes to proceed. Now you can browse the files of the ePub file.  Notice that it contains mostly HTML or XHTML files and images.  Click Extract all files to save them all in a folder so you can easily edit them. Alternately, you can open the ePub file directly in your favorite file archival program such as 7-zip.  Browse to the location of your ePub file, double-click it, and it’ll automatically open even if you don’t change the file extension to zip.  Now you can extract the folder, or extract individual files as before.   Edit Your eBook in KompoZer The actual ebook contents are stored in HTML or XHTML files.  These may be stored on the top folder of you ePub file’s directory, or they may be stored in \OEBPS\text in the file. To change the contents of your eBook, you’ll want to edit these files.  Often there may be separate files for each chapter, so you may have to use trial and error to find the one you need to edit.  You could edit them by hand in Windows using Notepad if you don’t have an HTML editor installed. A better option would be to use an HTML editor.  Here we’ll use the free KompoZer program to edit the files just like we’d edit a document in Word. Download KompoZer (link below), and unzip the files.  Then open the new folder and launch kompozer.exe; you don’t even need to install it.  In fact, you could even store KompoZer on a flash drive so you could edit HTML files from any computer. In KompoZer, open the HTML or XHTML file from your eBook that you want to edit. Now you can edit the file just like you would edit a document in Word.  Remove extra and unneeded text, make titles stand out, correct misspellings … anything you want!  This is especially helpful if your ePub file was created by converting a PDF as these often have many small errors. Or, if you’d rather edit the code itself, select the Source tab and edit as you wish. When you’re done making the changes, make sure to save the file in the same location with the same file name. Recreate Your Edited ePub eBook Once you’ve made all the changes you wanted, it’s time to turn this folder of files back into ePub.  Make sure you change the name of the folder if it still has the same name as the original ePub or zip file so you don’t mix them up or have trouble with overwriting the old files. Zip the folder using Windows Explorer or your favorite archival utility.  If you are using another archival program, make sure to compress it as a zip folder; other compression methods will render the ePub unreadable by your eReader app. Now change the file extension again, this time back to .epub. Now you can read your eBook with your changes in your favorite reader program or app on your mobile device. Conclusion Whether you need to remove an odd, misplaced character or need to do fine editing, using an HTML editor is a great way to make your ePub eBooks look just like you want.  Also, with an editor like KompoZer it’s not even difficult. • .htaccess rewrite www to non-www and remove .html

    - by lester8891
I need rewrite rules to redirect the following: http://www. to http:// /file.html to /file I've tried using a combination of these but each time it results in a redirect loop on one of the situations RewriteBase / RewriteRule ^(.*)\.html$ $1 [NC] RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.domain.co.uk [NC, L] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://domain.co.uk/$1 [R=301] I figure it's probably something to do with the flags but I don't know how to fix it. Just to be clear it needs to do all these situations: http://www.domain.co.uk to http://domain.co.uk http://www.domain.co.uk/file.html to http://domain.co.uk/file http://domain.co.uk to http://domain.co.uk http://domain.co.uk/file.html to http://domain.co.uk/file Thanks!

There are many new exciting features being added like the the canvas element, local offline storage, drag and drop and video playback support. HTML needed to evolve and added these features in order to stay relevant as the de facto markup language that can provide a rich web experience.". Une argumentation ?tay?e ? lire absolument.

  • Wessty: Live with HTML 5 (2011 Speaker Tour)

    - by David Wesst
That’s right: Wessty is on tour. Okay, the banner and the tour is a little over the top, but I am really excited about my upcoming speaking engagements to spread the word about HTML 5! I have already kicked off the tour with the Winnipeg Code Camp last weekend with the world premiere of HTML 5 for .NET Pro presentation, and the turn out fantastic. It was the last presentation of the day, but we still had some great questions about the new standard and got to see how HTML 5 can fit into .NET web applications today. In any case, above you can see the confirmed presentations that I will be doing so far in 2011, but there are a few more events that I have heard about that I hope to add to that list. Ultimately, expect that list to be updated over the course of the year as the year is young and there are plenty of conferences coming up! Presentation Resources As the tour continues, I will be posting the slides and the source code for the demonstrations up here on my site. They will be free of charge and give you the chance to review the demos and hopefully take advantage of some of the cool things you see in the presentations. Become part of the Tour If you are considering hosting an event where you think that HTML 5 could use a voice, drop me a line and let me know. I am always looking for opportunities to grow the tour to talk not just about HTML 5, but a variety of topics that relate to user interface and user experience development. This post also appears at http://david.wes.st

  • Windows 8: SL and HTML

    - by xamlnotes
I  was just pointed to comment on my friend Andrew Brust’s blog about Silverlight versus HTML 5. Andrews blog is here: http://geekswithblogs.net/andrewbrust/archive/2011/11/23/windows-8-will-be-here-tomorrow-but-should-silverlight-be.aspx#600915 You can get another idea from another friend of mine Billy Hollis here: http://geekswithblogs.net/jalexander/archive/2011/04/09/the-eternal-battle-rich-v.-reachhellip--guest-blogger-billy-hollis.aspx The commenter is raving about HTML 5 and how that’s the future and SL is not. Well, my reaction is “hogwash”. Sure, HTML 5 is important and does some interesting stuff. Checkout what Bing.com is doing with it on some days and you can see. But to say that XAML is dead is nuts. I have been wrapping up bugs on a cross browser version of an application for awhile now. Whats the state of cross browser today? Well, better than a few years ago but far from perfect.  Each browser vendor interprets the specs in a little different way and you must account for them. The worst offender for major browsers? Apple and its Safari.  I had to make more changes for it than any other. Whats that got to do with XAML and SL/WPF?  Well, you write your SL code once and it runs in all browsers that support it, no changes. ipad does not? Well, they should be taken to court and forced too just like MS and others have been in the past for locking out competitors. Line of business applications? Write them in SL or WPF or both.  Use the power of XAML witch far out reaches html in any flavor and move on. We do need HTML 5 but its not a panacea nor will it replace all other technologies.

  • Using mod_speling with multi-level htaccess and rewriterules

    - by michaelcgorman
We recently switched formats for managing our 301s. For the most part, everything went well, but it seems to have stopped mod_speling from working properly. Here's what we changed: old /var/www/html/.htaccess: RewriteEngine on RewriteBase / # Change SHTML to HTML RewriteRule ^(.*)\.shtml$ $1.html [R=permanent,L] # Change PCF to HTML ('cause, you know, we probably have CMS users like that...) RewriteRule ^(.*)\.pcf$ $1.html [R=permanent,L] # Force WWW subdomain for all requests RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.example.edu$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.example.edu/$1 [R,L] # User accounts are on sun.example.edu RedirectMatch ^/~(.*)$ http://sun.example.edu/~$1 # Remove index.html at the end of URLs RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^(.*/)index\.html$ [NC] RewriteRule . %1 [R=301,NE,L] Redirect 301 /academics/calendar2012-13.html http://www.example.edu/academics/calendar.html Redirect 301 /academics/departments/ http://www.example.edu/majors/ Redirect 301 /academics/Pre-Medical.pdf http://www.example.edu/academics/Pre-Medicine.pdf Redirect 301 ... new /var/www/html/.htaccess: RewriteEngine on RewriteBase / # Change SHTML to HTML RewriteRule ^(.*)\.shtml$ $1.html [R=permanent,L] # Change PCF to HTML ('cause, you know, we probably have CMS users like that...) RewriteRule ^(.*)\.pcf$ $1.html [R=permanent,L] # Force WWW subdomain for all requests RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.example.edu$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.example.edu/$1 [R,L] # User accounts are on sun.example.edu RedirectMatch ^/~(.*)$ http://sun.example.edu/~$1 # Remove index.html at the end of URLs RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^(.*/)index\.html$ [NC] RewriteRule . %1 [R=301,NE,L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*) 404/$1 And then we added a new file at /var/www/html/404/.htaccess: RewriteEngine on RewriteBase /404 RewriteRule ^academics/calendar2012-13.html$ /academics/calendar.html [R=302,L] RewriteRule ^academics/departments/$ /majors/ [R=301,L] RewriteRule ^academics/Pre-Medical.pdf$ /academics/Pre-Medicine.pdf[R=301,L] RewriteRule ... I do have (Webmin-based) access to the httpd.conf (though we don't want to store all our 301s there, if possible). We're running Apache 2.2.15 on RHEL 6 on a server in our own data center. Like I said, the only problem we're seeing is that mod_speling isn't doing its magic anymore. The new format has so many advantages over the old that we really don't want to go back, but mod_speling is so nice to have that we'd also really like it to work if possible. Any ideas for how we might be able to fix mod_speling?

  • ASP.NET Webforms developers and web designers: how to interact?

    - by just_name
I'm an ASP.NET Webforms developer, and I face some problems when I deal with designers. Designers always complain about the asp.net server controls. They'd rather just have an html file and create css files along with the required images to go with those. Sometimes, if the design phase is done in advance, I get html files with related css files, but then we face many problems integrating the design with the aspx files (sever controls an telerik controls ... etc). What I want to ask about is: How do I overcome these problems? The designers prefer php- and mvc developers because of the problems with .net server controls. I need to know how to interact with the designers in the correct way. Are there any tools or applications to provide the designers with the rendered (html page) of the .aspx pages? By that I mean the page in runtime rather than the aspx in Visual Studio. They do use Web Expression but they want the rendered page in html as well.

  • HTAccess redirect directories to index.html

    - by BFTrick
Hi there, I am working on a site that where I do not have permission to the server and someone else keeps changing the settings. That person just changed the settings preventing users from going to example.com/foo/ and seeing the index page. This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed. If you type in example.com/foo/index.html you can still see the file. So I want to use htaccess to redirect all urls that end in a directory to change into directory/index.html How do I write that? I started with some code that changes .php files to .html files and tried to work from that but I couldn't quite get it to work. RewriteRule ^(.*)\.php$ /$1.html [R=301,L] Any suggestions?
