Slow wifi on Ubuntu 12.04 wifi driver ath9k

For the last couple of days my wifi connection is extremely slow. I am pretty sure that it is caused by the driver. Filtering data in LINQ with the help of where clause

LINQ has bought with itself a super power of querying Objects, Database, XML, SharePoint and nearly any other data structure. The power of LINQ lies in the fact that it is managed code that lets you write SQL type code to fetch data. Whenever working with data we always need a way to filter out the data based on different condition. In this post we will look at some of the different ways in which we can filter data in LINQ with the help of where clause. Simple Filter for an array. Let’s say we have an array of number and we want to filter out data based on some condition. Below is an example int[] numbers = { 5, 4, 1, 3, 9, 8, 6, 7, 2, 0 }; var lowNums = from num in numbers where num < 5 select num; Filter based on one of the property in the class. With the help of LINQ we can also filer out data from a list based on value of some property. var soldOutProducts = from prod in products where prod.UnitsInStock == 0 select prod; Filter based on Multiple of the property in the class. var expensiveInStockProducts = from prod in products where prod.UnitsInStock > 0 && prod.UnitPrice > 3.00M select prod; Filter based on the index of the Item in the list.In the below example we can see that we are able to filter data based on the index of the item in the list. string[] digits = { "zero", "one", "two", "three", "four", "five", "six"}; var shortDigits = digits.Where((digit, index) => digit.Length < index); There are many other way in which we can filter out data in LINQ. DirectX works for 64-bit but not 32-bit

I'm trying to play a game (Civilization 5) which was previously working but no longer. I believe I've narrowed it down to a DirectX issue because I get an error running dxdiag.exe in 32 bit mode. My goal (at least I believe) is to get Direct3D Acceleration "Enabled" in dxdiag (as it is in 64 bit dxdiag). A very similar issue is here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-gaming/direct3d-acceleration-is-not-available-in-windows/4c345e6e-dc68-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5?page=1 The proposed answer, which looks very promising, doesn't seem to work for me. Like other users in that thread, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Direct3D\Drivers does not have a SoftwareOnly key to change. I even tried manually adding it as a string and dword, to no avail. I have a NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M, and before you ask, yes I've tried updating (also uninstalling, reinstalling) my drivers. I've also tried doing the same with DirectX (and Civilization 5 for that matter). Been debugging for some 4+ hours now after a full day of work and I've run out of ideas. I'm hoping somebody knows the solution here! :) Here's what I see when I open dxdiag: DxDiag has detected that there mgiht have been a problem accessing Direct3D the last time this program was used. Improving the performance of a db import process

I have a program in Microsoft Access that processes text and also inserts data in MySQL database. This operation takes 30 mins or less to finished. I translated it into VB.NET and it takes 2 hours to finish. The program goes like this: A text file contains individual swipe from a corresponding person, it contains their id, time and date of swipe in the machine, and an indicator if it is a time-in or a time-out. I process this text, segregate the information and insert the time-in and time-out per row. I also check if there are double occurrences in the database. After checking, I simply merge the time-in and time-out of the corresponding person into one row only. This process takes 2 hours to finished in VB.NET considering I have a table to compare which contains 600,000+ rows. Now, I read in the internet that python is best in text processing, i already have a test but i doubt in database operation. What do you think is the best programming language for this kind of problem? How can I speed up the process? My first idea was using python instead of VB.NET, but since people here telling me here on SO that this most probably won't help I am searching for different solutions.

ADSL connetion (BSNL dataone) with puppy Linux

I have an old PC which I want to use for internet browsing. I tried using Puppy Linux (version 4.3.1) for the same but have not been able to connect. I connect via PPPoE. My network card is RTL 8029b which is automatically detected by Puppy Linux. However, the LED indicator on the MODEM designating LAN connectivity stays off. This post is being typed from the same PC running XP, so there are no connection issues. I am a complete newbie for Linux. can somebody point me to instructions. I will be willing to give any more information if required. P.S. My MODEM is Huewei Smartax MT 882 Thanks

Windows 8 Radeon update broke some games

I've been using Windows 8 Consumer Preview 32-bit on my desktop for months, and recently did a software update through Windows Update. An update for my Radeon HD 5450 driver (Catalyst) to WDDM 1.2 was in the list of updates, and installed. When I went to play CS:GO and discovered that when loaded, it would not display the GUI (menus, sometimes even the background) after a few seconds of flickering GUI. I can still navigate the menus 'by feel' and connect to and play on servers, but have no GUI, no buy menu, no map, no cross-hairs, no health indicator, etc. I have tried CS:S, which works, and Borderlands, which doesn't even load the intro videos before the first menu screen. I've tried re-installing Catalyst from the AMD website, and the beta, and tried uninstalling and reinstalling CS:GO. The problem with it (and Borderlands) still happen. What broke, and how can I fix it? I'll be reinstalling soon anyway to dump Windows 8 back to 7, but would like to be able to game until then.

The Social Business Thought Leaders - Steve Denning

How is the average organization doing? Not very well according to a number of recent books and reports. A few indicators provide quite a gloomy picture: Return on assets and invested capitals dropped to 25% of its value in 1965 in the entire US market (see The Shift Index by John Hagel) Firms are dying faster and faster with the average lifespan of companies listed in the S&P 500 index gone from 67 years in the 1920s to 15 years today (see Creative Disruption by Richard Foster) Employee engagement ratio, a high level indicator of an organization’s health proved to affect performance outcomes, does not exceed on average 20%-30% (see Employee Engagement, Gallup or The Engagement Gap, Towers Perrin) In one of the most enjoyable keynotes of the Social Business Forum 2012, Steve Denning (Author of Radical Management and Independent Management Consultant) explained why this is happening and especially what leaders should do to reverse the worrying trends. In this Social Business Thought Leaders series, we asked Steve to collapse some key suggestions in a 2 minutes video that we strongly recommend. Steve discusses traditional management - that set of principles and practices born in the early 20th century and largely inspired by thinkers such as Frederick Taylor and Henry Ford - as the main responsible for the declining performance of modern organizations. While so many things have changed in the last 100 or so years, most companies are in fact still primarily focused on maximizing profits and efficiency, cutting costs, coordinating individuals top-down through command and control. The issue is, in a knowledge intensive, customer centred, turbulent market like the one we are experiencing, similar concepts are not just alienating employees' passion but also destroying the last source of competitive differentiation left: creativity and the innovative potential. According to Steve Denning, in a phase change from old industrial to a creative, collaborative, knowledge economy, the answer is hidden in a whole new business ecosystem that puts the individual (both the employee and the customer) at the center of the organization. He calls this new paradigm Radical Management and in the video interview he articulates the huge challenges and amazing rewards our enterprises are facing during this inevitable transition.

mythbuntu 12 - lirc device doesn't appear to even exist

I'm trying to get a new installation of Mythbuntu working. So far, everything is OK except the remote. The sensor for the remote is on my Hauppauge WinTV HVR 1250. Any suggestions on how to fix or further diagnose this?

Can defect containment metrics be readily applied at an organizational level when there is only a consistant organizational process framework?

Defect containment metrics, such as total defect containment effectiveness (TDCE) and phase containment effectiveness (PCE), can be used to give a good indicator of the quality of the process. TDCE captures the defects that are captured at some point between requirements and the release of a product into the field, indicating the overall effectiveness of the entire process to find and remove defects. PCE provides more detail at each phase of the software development life cycle and how the defect detection and removal techniques are working. Applying these metrics makes sense at a level where you have a well-defined process and methodology for product development, often a project. However, some organizations provide a process framework that is tailored at the project level. This process framework would include the necessary guidance for meeting certifications (ISO9001, CMMI), practices for incorporating known good techniques (agile methods, Lean, Six Sigma), and requirements for legal or regulatory reasons. However, the specific details of how to gather requirements, design the system, produce the software, conduct test, and release are left to the product development teams. Is there any effective way to apply defect containment metrics at an organizational level when only a process framework exists at the organizational level? If not, what might be some ideas for metrics that can be distilled from each project (each using a tailored process that fits into the organizational process framework) that captures defect containment metrics to discuss the ability of the process to find and remove defects? The end goal of such a metric would be to consolidate the defect containment practices of a large number of ongoing projects and report to management. The target audience would be people in roles such as the chief software engineer and the chief engineer (of all engineering disciplines) for the organization. Although project specific data would be available, the idea is to produce something that quantifies the general effectiveness of all tailored processes across all ongoing projects. I would suspect that this data would also be presented as part of CMMI, ISO, or similar audits to demonstrate process quality.

OSX Reset Home Permissions and ACLs - how long should it take?

Having screwwed up my permissions by trying to have two users accessing one home folder I'm now going through the process of reseting my main user home permissions via the OSX install disk utilities, which seems to be taking a while. Does this process take a while to do, though I assume it depends on how many files I have in the folder, which in my case is a good few 100 GBs. At what point should I be concerned that it may have got stuck and thus reset my computer and try again? I assume, though not sure that if the little circle indicator is still moving then it's not completely frozen, but as there's no progress bar or details I'm not sure how true that is.

USB microphone very quiet in Windows 7 64bit [migrated]

My microphone input is very quiet. I record my voice and the recording comes out very faint. I can barely see the level indicator move when I'm 4 inches away, only when I'm 0.5 inches away does it pick up well enough. Praise for Europe's Smart Metering & Conservation Efforts

Recently, a writer at the Home Energy Team praised the UK for its efforts towards smart metering and energy conservation, with an article entitled UK Blazing A Trail With Smart Metering At Home? The article highlighted that the Department of Energy and Climate Change has announced that smart metering will be introduced in the next decade and that all UK households will have smart meters by the year 2020. In fact, the UK is not the only country striving to achieve carbon reduction targets, as many of its European counterparts have begun to take positive steps towards tackling the issue of energy conservation by implementing innovative new metering and billing technologies as well as promoting alternative energy solutions, such as wind and solar power. Since 1997, the states of the European Union, including France, Germany and Spain, have been working towards achieving a target of 12 percent renewable energy electricity by 2010. Germany in particular has made a significant achievement so far, having surpassed the target early in 2007. This success is largely due to the German Renewable Energy Act (EEG), which promoted the use of renewable energy. Recently, analysis from the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) found that 21 of the EU Member States are meeting or exceeding their national target to achieve 20 percent renewable energy by 2020. However, six states - Belgium, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Bulgaria and Denmark - say they will not manage to reach their target through domestic action alone. Bulgaria and Denmark believe that with fresh national initiatives they could meet or exceed their targets, but others, including Italy, may need to import renewable energy from neighboring non-EU countries. Top achievers, according to the EWEA report, are Spain, which believes its renewable energy will reach 22.7 percent by 2020, as well as Germany, Estonia, Greece, Ireland, Poland, Slovakia and Sweden, who will all exceed their targets. "Importantly, the way that this renewable energy is controlled and distributed must be addressed in order to ensure its success," said Bastian Fischer, vice president and general manager EMEA, Oracle Utilities. "A smart gird infrastructure can enable utilities to deal with load distribution in times of increased need and ensure power is always available from these means. A smart grid also underpins the success of metering and billing technologies, such as smart metering, and allows utilities to deal with increased usage data and provide accurate billing." Outside of Europe, Australia has made significant steps towards improving water conservation. The Australian Department of Sustainability and Environment took some of the recent advancements made in the energy sector, including new metering and billing solutions, and applied them to the water industry, enhancing customer service and reducing consumption as a result. The adoption of smart metering in Europe is mainly driven by regulation, but significant technological improvements are being made the world over to change the way we use all kinds of energy. However, the developing markets are lagging behind. One of the primary reasons for this is the lack of infrastructure in place to use as a foundation for setting up energy-saving solutions, which is slowing the adoption of technologies such as smart meters. However, these countries do benefit from fewer outdated infrastructure and legacy systems, which is often cited by others as a difficult barrier to deploying new solutions. As a result, some countries should find new technologies easier to implement and adapt to in the immediate future, without this roadblock.

Wireless is detected, but not connecting. Ethernet works. How to correct the wireless address?

I am running Ubuntu 14.04 with cable internet, and my wireless is detected and connected, but I cannot connect to the internet. I know the problem is with my machine because other machines are connecting to the same router just fine. I can connect via ethernet just fine as well. Here are some notable tests: ping 192.168.0.105 works with 0% packet loss, but ping 192.168.0.1 has 100% packet loss. When I plug in my ethernet, ping 192.168.0.1 works with 0% packet loss. My wireless name is tg, and the router ip is 192.168.0.1 (where I can enter username and password). I suspect that I need to change my wireless address from 192.168.0.105 to 192.168.0.1. Atheros AR9485 wireless card doesn't work in an ASUS K53E

I just installed Ubuntu 11.10 32-bit version in dual boot mode on an ASUS K53. Every thing seems to work fine except for the wireless. The wireless works on Windows 7. Ubuntu finds the wireless card, but it does not appear to be turned on. The only physical means of turning on the card is the FN-F2 key combo. That works on Windows, but not in Ubuntu. I've looked in the forums for a solution and I'm not quite sure what to do. Tuning B2B Server Engine Threads in SOA Suite 11g

Background B2B 11g has a number of parameters that can be tweaked to tune the engine for handling high volumes of messages. These parameters are also known as B2B server properties and managed via the EM console. This note highlights one aspect of the tuning exercise and describes the different threads, that can be configured to tune the performance of a B2B server. Symptoms The most common indicator of a B2B engine in need of a tuning is reflected in the constant build-up of messages in an internal JMS queue within the B2B server. It is called B2B_EVENT_QUEUE and can be monitored via the Weblogic server console. Whenever such a behaviour is seen, it usually results in general degradation of performance. Remedy There could be many contributing factors behind a B2B server's degradation of performance. However, one of the first places to tune the server from the out-of-the-box, default configuration is to change the number of internal engine threads allocated within the B2B server. Usually the default configuration for the B2B server engine threads is not suitable for high-volume of messaging loads. So, it is necessary to increase the counts for 3 types of such threads, by specifying the appropriate B2B server properties via the EM console, namely, Inbound - b2b.inboundThreadCount Outbound - b2b.outboundThreadCount Default - b2b.defaultThreadCount The function of these threads are fairly self-explanatory. In other words, the inbound threads process the inbound messages that are coming into the B2B server from an external endpoint. Similarly, the outbound threads processes the messages that are sent out from the B2B server. The default threads are responsible for certain B2B server-specific special tasks. In case the inbound and outbound thread counts are not specified, the default thread count also dictates the total number of inbound and outbound threads. As found in any tuning exercise, the optimisation of these threads is usually reached via an iterative process. The best working combination of the thread counts are directly related to the system infrastructure, traffic load and several other environmental factors.
