    M iPhone app is using the MFMailComposeViewController class to send an in-app email with an attachment. The app will only attempt to display the mail composer dialog if the "canSendMail" method of class MFMailComposeViewController returns true (YES). Specifically, if the following method returns YES, it shows the mail composer, otherwise the user is presented with an error alert dialog stating that there are no email accounts set up on the device: - (BOOL)canDeviceSendEmail { Class mailClass = (NSClassFromString(@"MFMailComposeViewController")); return mailClass != nil && [mailClass canSendMail]; } A team of testers have reported that they get this error alert dialog, even when email accounts are set up on the device. The tester used an iPhone 3G with OS 3.1.3. Therefore the MFMailComposeViewController class must have existed, and the "canSendMail" method must have returned NO. My question is therefore: apart from the case when there are no email accounts set up on the device, in what other circumstances can the "canSendMail" method return NO? ~ Thanks

    I was wondering if there are any 3rd party controls for use with the iPhone that are available, even better if usable from Interface Builder. From what I can gather, the answer is no. I come from a Microsoft .NET background where of course there are tons of controls available from 3rd parties. I'm curious if this is a general Mac development ecosystem fact, i.e. no 3rd party controls for sale, or just an iPhone one, or if I've just missed finding them.

  • iphone app working on most devices but not a few

    Hi there. I have recently been rewriting some of my iphone app because a couple of users have said it was crashing on certain events. The event in question is when I add a new XIB to the view using the following code AddItemViewController * add_item = [[AddItemViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"AddItem" bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]]; [self presentModalViewController:add_item animated:YES]; [add_item setViewFormat:2]; [add_item release]; it works perfectly on my iphone and a mate's ipod touch (both running 3.1.3) but another user on an ipod touch also with 3.1.3 says it crashes when the function above is called. Why could this be happening? Surely if it works on one device it should work on another?! Is there a better way to add a view which maybe doesnt crash? I have also disabled all the code on the loading xib - so it literally is loading a near blank page. It's SO annoying!! Thanks for any help.

Now I am trying to move forward and "Query" from the iPhone a list of "users" that currently occupy the table (iphoneusers) in MySQL. And of course get it back to the iPhone via the php connection. If it is something like "Test2009" it works fine. Does anyone have an idea why, and maybe a solution for that?

  • Sanity check: UIBarButtonItem crashes trying to perform action

    One of my users is reporting a crash on his device, an iPhone 3GS. Other devices of the same type are not reporting similar behavior. He's sent me a crash log and based on reading it, I'm not sure how to proceed. I hope I'm not interpreting the crash log incorrectly but it doesn't look like my action has been called yet.     My Query I want to extract only images from a PDF document, using Objective-C in an iPhone Application. My Efforts I have gone through the info on this link, which has details regarding different operators on PDF documents. I also studied this document from Apple about PDF parsing with Quartz. I also went through the entire PDF reference document from the Adobe site. According to that document, for each image there are the following operators: q Q BI EI I have created a table to get the image: myTable = CGPDFOperatorTableCreate(); CGPDFOperatorTableSetCallback(myTable, "q", arrayCallback2); CGPDFOperatorTableSetCallback(myTable, "TJ", arrayCallback); CGPDFOperatorTableSetCallback(myTable, "Tj", stringCallback); I use this method to get the image: void arrayCallback2(CGPDFScannerRef inScanner, void *userInfo) { // THIS DOESN'T WORK // CGPDFStreamRef stream; // represents a sequence of bytes // if (CGPDFDictionaryGetStream (d, "BI", &stream)){ // CGPDFDataFormat t=CGPDFDataFormatJPEG2000; // CFDataRef data = CGPDFStreamCopyData (stream, &t); // } } This method is called for the operator "q", but I don't know how to extract an image from it.   • Hiding a UINavigationController's UIToolbar during viewWillDisappear:

    I've got an iPhone application with a UITableView menu. When a row in the table is selected, the appropriate view controller is pushed onto the application's UINavigationController stack. My issue is that the MenuViewController does not need a toolbar, but the UIViewControllers which are pushed onto the stack do. Each UIViewController that gets pushed calls setToolbarHidden:animated: in viewDidAppear:. To hide the toolbar, I call setToolbarHidden:animated: in viewWillDisappear:. Showing the toolbar works, such that when the pushed view appears the toolbar slides up and the view resizes correctly. However, when the back button is pressed the toolbar slides down but the view does not resize. This means that there's a black strip along the bottom of the view as the other view transitions in. I've tried adding the toolbar's height to the height of the view prior to hiding the toolbar, but this causes the view to be animated during the transition so that there's still a black bar. I realise I can manage my own UIToolbar, but I'd like to use UINavigationControllers built in UIToolbar for convenience. This forum post mentions the same issue, but no workaround is mentioned.

  • Building a complex view with Three20 - resources?

    I'm using three20 for most of my iPhone app. One of the views I need to create is relatively complex. It needs a top bar (under the nav bar) with some controls and label, an image view below this bar (which occupies most of the body) and another bottom bar with more controls and labels (above the tab bar control). I don't have much UI experience - my only experience with anything UI is laying stuff out using CSS, etc on websites. Apple's online doc seems to assume that the reader knows a bunch about rectangles, layouts, frames, etc or is using InterfaceBuilder. And three20 isn't too well documented either. So my question is: Is it possible to design something like what I describe in IB and then still have a three20-based app use it? If so, any tips/pointers on how would be much appreciated. Can you point me to some documentation that explain how views/controls etc are rendered. I'm pretty sure I can figure it out if I find some decent explanation/tutorial for it.

  • Removing a view from it's superview causes memory error - why?

    Xcode is throwing an error at me: malloc: * error for object 0x103f000: pointer being freed was not allocated * set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug I tracked down the code until a line where I do this: - (void)inputValueCommitted:(NSString *)animationID finished:(BOOL)finished context:(void *)context { // retainCount of myView is 2! (one for the retain-property, one for beeing a subview) [self.myView removeFromSuperview]; // ERROR-LINE !! self.myView = nil; } When I remove that errorful line, the error is gone. So in conclusion: I can't get rid of my view! It's an UIImageView with nothing else inside, just showing an image. What I do is this: I create an UIView Animation Block, create that UIImageView, assign it to an retain-property with self.myView = ..., and after the animation is done, I just want to get rid of that view. So I remove it from it's superview and then set my property to nil, which lets it go away - in theory. Did anyone else encounter such issues? iPhone SDK 3.0.
