  • SEO Impact of using Responsive Design and the serving of different content on the same URL

    We are currently working on redesigning our site and making it responsive. It is a search intensive site with complex functionality, a lot of search filters and a lot of content. Our mobile versions of certain pages need to hide some functionality (i.e. search filters) that exists in the desktop version and/or content (mainly blocks of text that are not necessary or are increasing page load in mobile devices). My questions is this: does the situation of having the same URL (responsive site) serving slightly different content (text and/or search filters) for certain pages in different devices affect our SEO (SERPs or otherwise)?

    Working with a variety of clients on EA initiatives one begins to realize that not everyone is a fan of EA. Specifically, they are not a fan of the "a-word". Some organizations have abused this term with creating and assigning the title to just about anyone who demonstrates above average prowess with a particular technology. Other organizations will assign the title to those managers left with no staff after a reorg. Some companies, unfortunately, have simply had a bad go of it with regard to EA...or any "A" for that matter. What we call "EA" is almost irrelevant. But what is not negotiable for those to succeed in business is to manage change. That is what EA is all about. I recall sitting in Zachman training led by himself. He posits the only organizations that don't need EA (or whatever you want to call it) are those that are not changing. My experience suggests those orgs that aren't changing aren't growing. And if you aren't growing, you're dying. Any EA program will not succeed unless there is a desire to change. No desire to change suggests the EA/Advisor/Change Agent should just walk the other way.

The questions are: How do I keep myself updated about developments in Java without having to buy a tome for Java8 and/or Java9 Is a book published in 2008 an outdated book for studying JSP and Servelets?     I am writing a utility that runs on RHEL5 command line. I need my command line options to be simple but powerful. I looked at the various UNIX utilities to get an idea of how simple command line utilities have to be. Do you guys suggest any documents/links that talk about command line etiquette? I am modelling my utility on top of LVM (that's all the info I can give for now). I know it's a software engineering question, but I thought it would be appropriate to post here. Please advise....   • Learning the nuances of a language (C++)

    So I'm a recent college graduate, and I really enjoy working in C++; I worked with it a lot in school, and would like to pursue a career writing in C or C++. The problem I'm having is that I'm trying to learn the nuances of C++. I'm not talking about the basics, or even advanced concepts like templates, namespaces, etc...I'm talking about the real nitty-gritty stuff like undefined behavior and stuff like that. When I'm interviewing, and they put a bizarre piece of C++ code in front of me, and ask me what the output will be, I want to be able to nail those questions. Obviously experience is a great way to learn, but when I write code for practice, I [obviously] know what it does. Reading open-source projects have been good practice, but I find that there tends to be an enormous learning curve just understanding the organization of the code (because the projects tend to be large). So basically what I'm asking is, what should I do now? Any tips are greatly appreciated!

    I am a student and have obtained a one year placement at a business that develops an e-commerce system using C#, HTML, WPF, javascript, ASP and more. Although I do have a little bit of knowledge, I find myself being assigned a lot of tasks that are beyond me and even when I ask for help, the response I get is often cryptic to me. I stare at as much code as possible to just try and "throw myself into it" but I often just get lost in the code I like to consider myself a fast learner and I am damn determined to be a good programmer. I would just like to ask if there are some tips for me to catch up as quick as possible? I don't want to be a nuisance and sit here and ask for help 24/7. I just want to crack on!

  • How can i compare Audio, what programming language should i use

    I have 2 audio files that are from almost the same source. But at some points there shifted a bit. Also the codecs does not match. I would like to make a program that takes a sample 2 - 4 seconds. And looks for it in the other file. (Most of the time it's not shifted more than 30 seconds). Than take the time and store it, Go ahead for a few seconds take a sample and find it again. This way i want to create a file where i can see on what points the file is shifted. For people who are more interested in what i want. I have a audio/video file speech and subtitles. But i have same speech from different sources with differs a bit in time. And i like to make a program that can correct the subtitle time for me. Enough about the problem I looked on the Internet for ways to compare audio files. Based on what i read comparing 2 audio files isn't that easy as i had hoped.   • Programming Language Family Tree?

    As a man interested in programming, I must ask if there is a cataloged hierarchy of languages. I'd like to learn to actually understand what's happening- that is to say, I don't want to use a compiler until I understand what a compiler does and how to make my own. I really do want to start from total scratch. I'm told that means "machine code"? I don't know. What I do know is that "C++" is not the start. I'm not interested in learning that until I can actually break software down to its very base and see how the pieces go together.

    The task is to configure a piece of hardware within the device, according to some input specification. This should be achieved as follows: 1) Collect the configuration information. This can happen at different times and places. For example, module A and module B can both request (at different times) some resources from my module. Those 'resources' are actually what the configuration is. 2) After it is clear that no more requests are going to be realized, a startup command, giving a summary of the requested resources, needs to be sent to the hardware. 3) Only after that, can (and must) detailed configuration of said resources be done. 4) Also, only after 2), can (and must) routing of selected resources to the declared callers be done. A common cause for bugs, even for me, who wrote the thing, is mistaking this order. What naming conventions, designs or mechanisms can I employ to make the interface usable by someone who sees the code for the first time?
