  • Single Form with Multiple Dynamic Buttons

    I've spent hours/days trying to figure this out and now I'm completely perplexed so I thought I'd give stackoverflow a try. I'm (a newb) working in Java/JSP using Eclipse hosting on Google App Engine trying to develop an app for a volunteer organization I'm a member of. Rather than embarrass myself by showing my current code I'd love just a nudge in the right direction. I have a form (which doubles as a report basically) showing "people" grouped under the "task" they are currently working on. I would like to select multiple people from multiple tasks and reassign them to another task e.g. Bill and Jane are Gardening, Jeff is Painting. I want to select Jane and Jeff (all people have an associated checkbox in the form) and re-assign them to Sweeping (which is a task on the form but has no people assigned to it yet). Ideally, the re-assignment to Sweeping would be via a Sweeping button (each task would have a dynamically-created task button) that would pass the "Sweeping" value to a servlet along with an array or list of people whose checkbox has been checked. The servlet would handle the request (creating an Assignment "object/entity" with timeStamp, personId, taskId) and then re-direct back to the form/report which would then repaint with the current tasks/people generated from the Assignments class in the datastore. All the tasks are user-defined and retrieved from the database when building the form. Ditto the people. I've been trying to keep the jsp for presentation and the servlets for the processing but I'm no purist and would just like to get unstuck. Many thanks in advance for your assistance.

    Hello, I'm trying to do soemone a favour, and it's a tad outside my comfort zone, so I'm stuck.   • How to convert thousands of PDF files to a single Postscript file in a specified order

    I've discovered multiple options for convert a few to serveral PDFs into Postscript, but many are command-line programs with command-line limitations (this application lives on .NET). Our application generates tens-of-thousands of PDFs that we need to send to a printer, except BEFORE the Postscript is printed we need to edit the Postscript to insert print command instructions (duplex, tray-pulls, highlight color, etc.) I think a perfect solution might allow us to write the PDFs to a stream, and simultaneously allow us to read the output stream so we may edit the Postscript before writing it to a file. Of course, if I must create the file first containing all 10,000 PDFs and edit it in an additional pass, I'm OK with that, too. I should mention that speed is important. I need to print 10,000 at a time, but need to keep the printers busy 24-hours/day.

I don't know if there is a way to express the following concept in the language of regex: Valid entry would consist of exactly one of the three components : aaaa, aab and bb, regardless of order, followed by an arbitrary sequence of a or b's So this is what is should be like : (a{4}Ua{2}bUb{2})(aUb)* where the content in first braces is order irrelevant.     Hi, I have a Google App engine application that I want to work differently depending upon if it is running in my local dev environment (i.e. with dev_appserver.py) as against running in actual GAE cloud. Currently I use a flag variable that I manually toggle to achieve that. But I am sure one day I will forget to change it and will lead to problem. So I would like to know if there is an API or some other way to figure out where the GAE app is actually running? Thanks.

  • Changing system colors for a single application (Windows, .NET)

    I know I should generally avoid messing up with such system settings, but my application do already use nonstandard colors and I have no influence on that. I would like to be able to add standard .NET controls in some places, but their colors do not match. I would like to have a hack that would replace system colors for this one application. One more important thing to note is that it is a .NET application. My (incomplete) ideas so far were: To create a proxy User32.dll library with replaced GetSysColor, but it would be very tedious (731 functions to be redirected, 1 to be replaced) and I do not know how to force my application to use that particular copy. To intercept somehow invocations to GetSysColors (unfortunatelly it is somewhere in the CLR I think). To modify somehow .NET class SystemColors (in memory? is it possible?). Do you have any idea, what is the best (and complete) way to achieve this?

  • Objective C Insanity -- simple assignement to a single float variable results in {{{CRAZY}}} values

    memberA is defined in the header of ClassA. memberB is defined in the header of ClassB. ClassB is a subclass of ClassA Inside an instance of ClassB, setting memberA via simple assignment: memberA = 0.05 ...also changes memberB, but to a crazy number -- 1028443341. Additionally, assigning 0.05 to memberA results in memberA showing up in the debugger as 5.33083531e-38. Both variables are floats, neither is a pointer. I'm almost certianly making some noob mistake, but I don't have any clue what it might be. What sort of screw-up might make it so assigning a value to one variable results in crazy values appearing in two variables? I can give more details or real code, but figured I'd keep it simple to start with in case it's an obvious problem/solution.

When a user type a url of an existing web page, I read the content of this page and using an ajax call, i display the content in a div inside my web application. Now my problem is that often the content encoding of the existing web page is different than my web app (I use utf-8) Is there a way to load content using an ajax call with different content encoding than the one of the main page?     I'm trying to write a C#/.NET application that optimizes the hard drives for our XP workstations Set pagefile to "No paging file" Reboot Run a defrag utility to optimize the data and apps Create a contiguous page file Reboot, run pagedefrag from Sysinternals I'm really struggling with #1. I delete the following key: SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PagingFiles Upon reboot, the System Control Panel shows "No page file", but c:\pagefile.sys still exists and its in use by the SYSTEM process so I can't delete it and I can't optimize HD. I tried using PendingFileRenamingOperations and that bombs out too. I tried using WMI: Win32_PageFileSetting, but that only lets you set sizes (not zero--defaults to 2MB). Of course, if I do the manual steps outlined above, it works. I think I need an API call to make this happen.

    Hi, I have a flex datagrid with 3 columns. The first column contains the image name(unique key). The other two columns have username and size details. I want to split the username into lastname, firstname, address and some other stuff. Can we have multiple rows in the grid for one image? Tried multi-line, it works but we need to keep adding spaces and its cumbersome. Since each row in the flex datagrid is represented by one index in the XMLList which is enumerated, is there a way to have more than one row assigned to one image and shown in the grid? something like this..   • Multiple forms on a single page

    I've got an app that's in invite-only beta right now. Problem is, I can't get the invite system to work. :( On my root page there's a login form (which works just fine), and I'm trying to add a "request invite" form on the same page. I started doing it by putting the form for InviteRequest (ActiveRecord) inside a partial, in the "views" folder for "InviteRequest".   • Creating a single CRM plugin DLL to store in the CRM database

    Since the suggested way of storing plugins in MS CRM is via the CRM database, I figured it's about time to do something about the method I'm currently using, which is storing the DLLs on the disk. The trouble however is that I don't know how to embed all the other various bits that are needed by the DLL: the localization resource files (which are kept in another folder) and some referenced DLLs from the latest SDK (which had to be manually placed in the bin\assembly folder). At this point, I'm not even entirely sure this is possible. So far I've tried to solve the localization problem by changing the build action on the resource files to "Content" or "Resource" and tested this solution (still keeping the location on-disk, but without the added localization folder). This didn't work: when I purposely generated a validation error in one of the plugins, I got the default language message (English) despite having a different language selected in the CRM. I've faced a similar problem when trying to add some of the referenced DLL files (namely the new SDK DLLs: xrm.portal, xrm.portal.files and xrm.client). When I tried to store the plugin in the database (skipping for a moment the localization issue), I got a CRM error saying it cannot find the XRM.Client assembly or one of it's dependencies. I know I could use ILMerge to put the whole thing together, but I've got a gut feeling telling me this isn't really a good idea. Any hints or suggestions on this issue would be great.

    Is there a way to go through different commits on a file. Say I modified a file 5 times and I want to go back to change 2, after I already committed and pushed to a repository. In my understanding the only way is to keep many branches, have I got that right? If I'm right I'm gonna have hundreds of branches in a few days, so I'm probably not understanding it really. Could anyone clear that up please?

  • Sqlite: CURRENT_TIMESTAMP is in GMT, not the timezone of the machine

    I have a sqlite (v3) table with this column definition: "timestamp" DATETIME DEFAULT CURRENT_TIMESTAMP The server that this database lives on is in the CST time zone. When I insert into my table without including the timestamp column, sqlite automatically populates that field with the current timestamp in GMT, not CST. Is there a way to modify my insert statement to force the stored timestamp to be in CST? On the other hand, it is probably better to store it in GMT (in case the database gets moved to a different timezone, for example), so is there a way I can modify my select SQL to convert the stored timestamp to CST when I extract it from the table?     My web configuration looks as follows: <system.web> <compilation debug="false"/> <httpRuntime executionTimeout="90"/> </system.web> This is fine for most webservices but one webservice has a query that is running a very long (5 minutes) time and will be stopped before it has finished. Is it possible to set the runtime to 5 minutes for this webservice alone? I've thought about running the database query async (fire and forget) but it doesn't seem possible with sybase/oracle through ODBC.

  • What open source database platform is most easily transferred from my personal machine into a window

    I would like eventual interaction with MS Dynamics SL and/or MindTouch Core (running on WMware) for eventual intranet and/or internet display. I guess I am asking for front and back end recommendations for a database I am constructing, but since this is my first major project I would greatly appreciate any help and advice. I would also love an opportunity to learn a new language so the code base could be in any language. I do have a few more related questions for discussion; What is the viability of using Google hosting to provide the service to the public for free? Should I implement plone or another CMS if I have a large amount of output? Is there a structuring questionnaire or standards publication I could reference? Does UML diagramming provide additional options for portability? Thank you.

  • Code golf: combining multiple sorted lists into a single sorted list

    Implement an algorithm to merge an arbitrary number of sorted lists into one sorted list. The aim is to create the smallest working programme, in whatever language you like. For example: input: ((1, 4, 7), (2, 5, 8), (3, 6, 9)) output: (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9) input: ((1, 10), (), (2, 5, 6, 7)) output: (1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 10) Note: solutions which concatenate the input lists then use a language-provided sort function are not in-keeping with the spirit of golf, and will not be accepted: sorted(sum(lists,[])) # cheating: out of bounds! Apart from anything else, your algorithm should be (but doesn't have to be) a lot faster! Clearly state the language, any foibles and the character count. Only include meaningful characters in the count, but feel free to add whitespace to the code for artistic / readability purposes. To keep things tidy, suggest improvement in comments or by editing answers where appropriate, rather than creating a new answer for each "revision". EDIT: if I was submitting this question again, I would expand on the "no language provided sort" rule to be "don't concatenate all the lists then sort the result". Existing entries which do concatenate-then-sort are actually very interesting and compact, so I won't retro-actively introduce a rule they break, but feel free to work to the more restrictive spec in new submissions.
