  • How do you create a dropdownlist from an enum in ASP.NET MVC?

    I'm trying to use the Html.DropDownList extension method but can't figure out how to use it with an enumeration. Let's say I have an enumeration like this: public enum ItemTypes { Movie = 1, Game = 2, Book = 3 } How do I go about creating a dropdown with these values using the Html.DropDownList extension method? Or is my best bet to simply create a for loop and create the html elements manually?

  • JAX-WS wsgen and collections of collections: wsgen broken?

    I've been playing around with "bottom-up" JAX-WS and have come across something odd when running wsgen. If I have a service class that does something like: @WebService public class Foo { public ArrayList<Bar> getBarList(String baz) { ... } } then running wsgen gets me a FooService_schema1.xsd that has something like this: <xs:complexType name="getBarListResponse"> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="return" type="tns:bar" minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="unbounded"/> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> which seems reasonable. However, if I want a collection of collections like: public BarCollection getBarCollection(String baz) { ... } // BarCollection is just a container for an ArrayList<Bar> then the generated schema ends up with stuff like: <xs:complexType name="barCollection"> <xs:sequence/> </xs:complexType> <xs:complexType name="getBookCollectionsResponse"> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="return" type="tns:barCollection" minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="unbounded"/> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> An empty sequence is not what I had in mind at all.     Is there a way to write the PHP file_exists function so that it searches a directory for a file with an arbitrary extension. For instance, suppose I knew that a file were called "hello", but I didn't know the extension, how would I write a function that searched for a file called hello.* and returned the name of this file? As far as I can tell, file_exists will only search for a string. Thanks.

For example if the fax number is 90081000, can there be an extension for 1001, 1002 etc etc. Are we able to create these extension from within the MS Fax software and then route the different extensions to different email addresses?     Fatal error: Call to a member function getArea() on a non-object in {directory}/includes/src/Mage_Core_Model_App_Area.php on line 155 Cropped up when I installed an extension that I wrote on a clean install of Magento. When ported to the dev server it took it down and I cant seem to find where it has originated. Disabling the extension changes nothing. Along with clearing the cache and all the regular Magento hiccups. I've ensured that file permissions are correct to the best of my knowledge.

    From what I read, PHP 6 will break a lot of php scripts. I understand the reasons why it may break but why don't they just keep the PHP 5 and simply call PHP 6 as a different language based on PHP syntax? Like for example, why not just call php 6 scripts with an extension, "p6"- why are they trying so hard to make it backward compatible for old scripts when the extension can be used to call a specific interpreter?

    A few times I've run into situations where I'd like to be able to include a file using PHP, and depending on the included filetype, output the appropriate headers. In the past I've just done this manually by switch/casing the extension type with the appropriate content-type headers. However what I'm wondering now is if there's a function like get_header($filename) or maybe get_contenttype($extension) For example if I wanted to route all requests for media through a php file, I could use that function to output the correct headers.

    How can I change the program a file is opened with by default (or at least add that program in the list of programs from Open With... ) using C# or VB.NET ? What I mean is, I would like to have programs with the extension abc open by default by the program abc.exe. Or, have the program abc.exe in the list of programs that will be shown in the context menu on the "Open With" option, for files with extension "xls".

  • Best DataMining Database

    I am an ocasional Python programer who only have worked so far with MYSQL or SQLITE databases. I am the computer person for everything in a small compamy and I have been started a new project where I think it is about time to try new databases. Sales departament makes a CSV dump every week and I need to make a small scripting application that allow people form other departaments mixing the information, mostly linking the records. I have all this solved, my problem is the speed, I am using just plain text files for all this and unsurprisingly it is very slow. I thought about using mysql, but then I need installing mysql in every desktop, sqlite is easier, but it is very slow. I do not need a full relational database, just some way of play with big amounts of data in a decent time. Many thanks!

  • SQLite3-ruby extremely slow under 1.9.1?

    I decided to upgrade my server to Ruby 1.9.1, and a lot of things are indeed much faster. However, I have a process that dumps a database to sqlite, and it's become glacially slow. What used to take 30 seconds now takes upwards of 10 minutes. The code does several create table statements, and then lots of inserts. The insert statements nearly all use placeholders (?), so SQLite is doing the heavy lifting of binding the parameters. In short, I can't see why this particular usage has slowed down so much. Does anyone know of any problems that have caused it? I'm using sqlite3-ruby (1.2.5), and I'm hoping that someone has encountered this and profiled it. If not, I guess I'm going to learn how to profile ruby code :)
