  • Unknown error sourcing a script containing 'typeset -r' wrapped in command substitution

    - by Bernard Assaf
    I wish to source a script, print the value of a variable this script defines, and then have this value be assigned to a variable on the command line with command substitution wrapping the source/print commands. This works on ksh88 but not on ksh93 and I am wondering why. $ cat typeset_err.ksh #!/bin/ksh unset _typeset_var typeset -i -r _typeset_var=1 DIR=init # this is the variable I want to print When run on ksh88 (in this case, an AIX 6.1 box), the output is as follows: $ A=$(. ./typeset_err.ksh; print $DIR) $ echo $A init When run on ksh93 (in this case, a Linux machine), the output is as follows: $ A=$(. ./typeset_err.ksh; print $DIR) -ksh: _typeset_var: is read only $ print $A ($A is undefined) The above is just an example script. The actual thing I wish to accomplish is to source a script that sets values to many variables, so that I can print just one of its values, e.g. $DIR, and have $A equal that value. I do not know in advance the value of $DIR, but I need to copy files to $DIR during execution of a different batch script. Therefore the idea I had was to source the script in order to define its variables, print the one I wanted, then have that print's output be assigned to another variable via $(...) syntax. Admittedly a bit of a hack, but I don't want to source the entire sub-script in the batch script's environment because I only need one of its variables. The typeset -r code in the beginning is the error. The script I'm sourcing contains this in order to provide a semaphore of sorts--to prevent the script from being sourced more than once in the environment. (There is an if statement in the real script that checks for _typeset_var = 1, and exits if it is already set.) So I know I can take this out and get $DIR to print fine, but the constraints of the problem include keeping the typeset -i -r. In the example script I put an unset in first, to ensure _typeset_var isn't already defined. By the way I do know that it is not possible to unset a typeset -r variable, according to ksh93's man page for ksh. There are ways to code around this error. The favorite now is to not use typeset, but just set the semaphore without typeset (e.g. _typeset_var=1), but the error with the code as-is remains as a curiosity to me, and I want to see if anyone can explain why this is happening. By the way, another idea I abandoned was to grep the variable I need out of its containing script, then print that one variable for $A to be set to; however, the variable ($DIR in the example above) might be set to another variable's value (e.g. DIR=$dom/init), and that other variable might be defined earlier in the script; therefore, I need to source the entire script to make sure I all variables are defined so that $DIR is correctly defined when sourcing.

  • Setting value for autocomplete search field linked to Google Places API

    - by user1653350
    I have a web page where people will be able to enter multiple destinations. When they state they want to enter a new destination, the current field values are stored in arrays. If they choose to go back to a previous destination, the relevant values are reinserted into the form fields. I am using the search field linked to autocomplete as the visible display of the destination. When I attempt to put a value into the linked search field, the value is presented as if it is a placeholder instead of a value. Enter the field and the value is removed by the onFocus() event of the Google Places autocomplete add-in. How can I reinsert the value and have it recognised as a value instead of placeholder. field definition in the form <label for="GoogleDestSrch" class="inputText">Destination: <span id="DestinationDisplay2">1</span> <span class="required"><font size="5"> * </font></span></label> <input id="GoogleDestSrch" type="text" size="50" placeholder="Please enter your destination" /> initialise code for Google Places API listener var input = document.getElementById('GoogleDestSrch'); var autocomplete = new google.maps.places.Autocomplete(input); google.maps.event.addListener(autocomplete, 'place_changed', function() { fillInAddress(); }); attempting to reinsert value into search field when prior destination reloaded form.GoogleDestSrch.value = GoogleDestSrch[index]; Issue With Google Places <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"> function GotoDestination(index) { var domove = true; if (index == 0) { index = lastIndex + 1; } else { if (index == -1) { index = lastIndex - 1; if (index == 0) { index = 1; domove = false; } } } if (domove) { if (index != lastIndex) { var doc = window.document; var pdbutton = doc.getElementById("pdbutton"); var pdbutton1 = doc.getElementById("pdbutton1"); if ((index > lastIndex)) { // move to next destination saveDataF(lastIndex); loadDataF(index); lastIndex = index; } else if (index <= lastIndex) { // move to previous destination saveDataF(lastIndex); loadDataF(index); lastIndex = index; } } } } var input; var autocomplete; // fill in the Google metadata when a destination is selected function fillInAddress() { var strFullValue = ''; var strFullGeoValue = ''; var place = autocomplete.getPlace(); document.getElementById("GoogleType").value = place.types[0]; } function saveDataF(index) { var fieldValue; var blankSearch = "Please enter"; // placeholder text for Google Places fieldValue = document.getElementById("GoogleDestSrch").value; if (fieldValue.indexOf(blankSearch) > -1) { fieldValue = ""; } GoogleDestSrch[index] = fieldValue; } function loadDataF(index) { if ((GoogleDestSrch[index] + "") == "undefined") { document.getElementById("GoogleDestSrch").value = ""; } else { document.getElementById("GoogleDestSrch").value = GoogleDestSrch[index]; } } // -- Destination: 1 * Type of place // input = document.getElementById('GoogleDestSrch'); autocomplete = new google.maps.places.Autocomplete(input); google.maps.event.addListener(autocomplete, 'place_changed', function () { fillInAddress(); }); //]]

  • Ruby on Rails is complaining about a method that doesn't exist that is built into Active Record. Wha

    - by grg-n-sox
    This will probably just be a simple problem and I am just blind or an idiot but I could use some help. So I am going over some basic guides in Rails, reviewing the basics and such for an upcoming exam. One of the guides included was the sort-of-standard getting started guide over at guide.rubyonrails.org. Here is the link if you need it. Also all my code is for my app is from there, so I have no problem releasing any of my code since it should be the same as shown there. I didn't do a copy paste, but I basically was typing with Vim in one half of my screen and the web page in the other half, typing what I see. http://guides.rubyonrails.org/getting_started.html So like I said, I am going along the guide when I noticed past a certain point in the tutorial, I was always getting an error on the site. To find the section of code, just hit Ctrl+f on the page (or whatever you have search/find set to) and enter "accepts_". This should immediately direct you to this chunk of code. class Post < ActiveRecord::Base validates_presence_of :name, :title validates_length_of :title, :minimum => 5 has_many :comments has_many :tags accepts_nested_attributes_for :tags, :allow_destroy => :true , :reject_if => proc { |attrs| attrs.all? { |k, v| v.blank? } } end So I tried putting this in my code. It is in ~/Rails/blog/app/models/post.rb in case you are wondering. However, even after all the other code I put in past that in the guide, hoping I was just missing some line of code that would come up later in the guide. But nothing, same error every time. This is what I get. NoMethodError in PostsController#index undefined method `accepts_nested_attributes_for' for #<Class:0xb7109f98> /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.2.2/lib/active_record/base.rb:1833:in `method_missing' app/models/post.rb:7 app/controllers/posts_controller.rb:9:in `index' Request Parameters: None Response Headers: {"Content-Type"=>"", "cookie"=>[], "Cache-Control"=>"no-cache"} Now, I copied the above code from the guide. The two code sections I edited mentioned in the error message I will paste as is below. class PostsController < ApplicationController # GET /posts # GET /posts.xml before_filter :find_post, :only => [:show, :edit, :update, :destroy] def index @posts = Post.find(:all) # <= the line 9 referred to in error message respond_to do |format| format.html # index.html.erb format.xml { render :xml => @posts } end end class Post < ActiveRecord::Base validates_presence_of :name, :title validates_length_of :title, :minimum => 5 has_many :comments has_many :tags accepts_nested_attributes_for :tags, :allow_destroy => :true , # <= problem :reject_if => proc { |attrs| attrs.all? { |k, v| v.blank? } } end Also here is gem local gem list. I do note that they are a bit out of date, but the default Rails install any of the school machines (an environment likely for my exam) is basically 'gem install rails --version 2.2.2' and since they are windows machines, they come with all the normal windows ruby gems that comes with the ruby installer. However, I am running this off a Debian virtual machine of mine, but trying to set it up similarly and I figured the windows ruby gems wouldn't change anything in Rails. *** LOCAL GEMS *** actionmailer (2.2.2) actionpack (2.2.2) activerecord (2.2.2) activeresource (2.2.2) activesupport (2.2.2) gem_plugin (0.2.3) hpricot (0.8.2) linecache (0.43) log4r (1.1.7) ptools (1.1.9) rack (1.1.0) rails (2.2.2) rake (0.8.7) sqlite3-ruby (1.2.3) So any ideas on what the problem is? Thanks in advanced.

  • jquery scope issue

    - by matthewb
    I am having issue with the following: I can't seem to keep the link I am selecting in each repeated item. The word "this" is getting lost. the Var event_id works for each element, but the var $something is undefined? Why is that, Ideally I wanted to do a switch statement but same issue, can't seem to get it to know what link I click and the elements around it to do the action. Updated Full Function: function rsvp (selector,function_url) { $(selector).livequery('click',function(){ var $select = $(selector).attr('rel'); var $event_id= $(this).parents('ul.event-options').attr('rel'); if ($select == "attending") { $(this).closest('span.rsvp-status').html("I'm Attending &ndash; <a href='javascript:;' class='remove' rel='remove'>Remove</a>"); var $something = $(this).parents('ul.event-options').attr('rel'); alert($something); } if ($select == "remove") { $(this).closest('span.rsvp-status').html("Not Attending &ndash; <a href='javascript:;' class='rsvp' rel='attending'>RSVP?</a>"); } if ($select == "interested") { $(this).closest('li').addClass('interested'); $(this).closest('li').removeClass('not-interested'); $(this).closest('li').html("You're Interested"); } $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "/events/set_member/"+function_url, data: "event_id="+$event_id, beforeSend: function() { $("<span class='notice'>Updating...</span>").prependTo('body'); }, complete: function() { $('span.notice').fadeOut(500); } }); }); } rsvp ('a.rsvp','rsvp'); rsvp ('a.interests','interested'); rsvp ('a.remove','remove'); HTML <ul class="event-options" rel="<?=$event['event_id']?>"> <?php if($event['rsvp_total'] > 0) { ?> <!-- Show Only When Count is Greater than 0 --> <li class="group"><span class="total"><?= $event['rsvp_total']?></span>Interested </li> <?php } ?> <li class="rsvp"><span class="rsvp-status"> Not Attending &ndash; <a href="javascript:;" class="rsvp" rel="attending">RSVP?</a></span></li> <li class="not-interested"> <a href="javascript:;" class="interests" rel="interested"> Interested? </a> </li> <li class="place"><span><a href="<?=$place_path.$event['place_id']?>"><?=$event['place_name']?></a></span></li> <li class="share" rel="<?=$event['event_name']?>"> <a class="sharethis"></a> </li> </ul>

  • Why might a System.String object not cache its hash code?

    - by Dan Tao
    A glance at the source code for string.GetHashCode using Reflector reveals the following (for mscorlib.dll version 4.0): public override unsafe int GetHashCode() { fixed (char* str = ((char*) this)) { char* chPtr = str; int num = 0x15051505; int num2 = num; int* numPtr = (int*) chPtr; for (int i = this.Length; i > 0; i -= 4) { num = (((num << 5) + num) + (num >> 0x1b)) ^ numPtr[0]; if (i <= 2) { break; } num2 = (((num2 << 5) + num2) + (num2 >> 0x1b)) ^ numPtr[1]; numPtr += 2; } return (num + (num2 * 0x5d588b65)); } } Now, I realize that the implementation of GetHashCode is not specified and is implementation-dependent, so the question "is GetHashCode implemented in the form of X or Y?" is not really answerable. I'm just curious about a few things: If Reflector has disassembled the DLL correctly and this is the implementation of GetHashCode (in my environment), am I correct in interpreting this code to indicate that a string object, based on this particular implementation, would not cache its hash code? Assuming the answer is yes, why would this be? It seems to me that the memory cost would be minimal (one more 32-bit integer, a drop in the pond compared to the size of the string itself) whereas the savings would be significant, especially in cases where, e.g., strings are used as keys in a hashtable-based collection like a Dictionary<string, [...]>. And since the string class is immutable, it isn't like the value returned by GetHashCode will ever even change. What could I be missing? UPDATE: In response to Andras Zoltan's closing remark: There's also the point made in Tim's answer(+1 there). If he's right, and I think he is, then there's no guarantee that a string is actually immutable after construction, therefore to cache the result would be wrong. Whoa, whoa there! This is an interesting point to make (and yes it's very true), but I really doubt that this was taken into consideration in the implementation of GetHashCode. The statement "therefore to cache the result would be wrong" implies to me that the framework's attitude regarding strings is "Well, they're supposed to be immutable, but really if developers want to get sneaky they're mutable so we'll treat them as such." This is definitely not how the framework views strings. It fully relies on their immutability in so many ways (interning of string literals, assignment of all zero-length strings to string.Empty, etc.) that, basically, if you mutate a string, you're writing code whose behavior is entirely undefined and unpredictable. I guess my point is that for the author(s) of this implementation to worry, "What if this string instance is modified between calls, even though the class as it is publicly exposed is immutable?" would be like for someone planning a casual outdoor BBQ to think to him-/herself, "What if someone brings an atomic bomb to the party?" Look, if someone brings an atom bomb, party's over.

  • Help needed with Flash AS2 to AS3 conversion, having major problems...

    - by Mat
    Hi all, I have a project i need to update form AS2 to AS3 as i need some of the new functions available for vertical centering of text. My current AS2 code on the time line is as follows. var dataField = _root.dataField; var dataType = _root.dataType; var dataPage = _root.dataPage; var dataVar = _root.dataVar; _root.mc.onRelease = function() { getURL("index.php?page="+dataPage+"&num="+dataNum+"&"+dataType+"="+dataVar, "_self"); }; And my external AS file is as follows. import mx.transitions.Tween; /** * * StandardKey is attached to a movieclip in the library. * It handles the basic button behavior of the keyboard keys. * When each button is placed on the stage, it's instance name * will be the unique ID of the key. * */ class StandardKey extends MovieClip { /////////////////////////////////////// //Stage Elements var highlight:MovieClip; //End Stage Elements var highlightTween:Tween; function StandardKey(Void) { //Repaint the key with 0 alpha highlight._alpha = 0; } function onPress(Void):Void { //Do the highlight animation highlightTween.stop(); highlightTween = new Tween(highlight, "_alpha", mx.transitions.easing.Regular.easeInOut, 100, 0, 10, false); } } Here is my attempt at moving timeline and external AS2 to AS3 Timeline i now have : var dataField = this.dataField; var dataType = this.dataType; var dataPage = this.dataPage; var dataVar = this.dataVar; var dataNum = this.dataNum; _root.mc.onRelease = function() { navigateToURL(new URLRequest("index.php?page="+dataPage+"&num="+dataNum+"&"+dataType+"="+dataVar, "_self")); }; External AS3 i have package { import fl.transitions.Tween; import fl.transitions.easing.*; import flash.display.MovieClip; /** * * StandardKey is attached to a movieclip in the library. * It handles the basic button behavior of the keyboard keys. * When each button is placed on the stage, it's instance name * will be the unique ID of the key. * */ public class StandardKey extends MovieClip { /////////////////////////////////////// //Stage Elements var highlight:MovieClip; //End Stage Elements var highlightTween:Tween; public function StandardKey(Void) { //Repaint the key with 0 alpha highlight._alpha = 0; } public function onPress(Void):void { //Do the highlight animation highlightTween.stop(); highlightTween = new Tween(highlight, "_alpha", fl.transitions.easing.Regular.easeInOut, 100, 0, 10, false); } } } The errors i am currently getting are : Scene 1, Layer 'Label', Frame 1, Line 6 1120: Access of undefined property _root. • How do I use accepts_nested_attributes_for?

    - by Angela
    Editing my question for conciseness and to update what I've done: How do I model having multiple Addresses for a Company and assign a single Address to a Contact, and be able to assign them when creating or editing a Contact? I want to use nested attributes to be able to add an address at the time of creating a new contact. That address exists as its own model because I may want the option to drop-down from existing addresses rather than entering from scratch. I can't seem to get it to work. I get a undefined method `build' for nil:NilClass error Here is my model for Contacts: class Contact < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :first_name, :last_name, :title, :phone, :fax, :email, :company, :date_entered, :campaign_id, :company_name, :address_id, :address_attributes belongs_to :company belongs_to :address accepts_nested_attributes_for :address end Here is my model for Address: class Address < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :street1, :street2, :city, :state, :zip has_many :contacts end I would like, when creating an new contact, access all the Addresses that belong to the other Contacts that belong to the Company. So here is how I represent Company: class Company < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :name, :phone, :addresses has_many :contacts has_many :addresses, :through => :contacts end Here is how I am trying to create a field in the View for _form for Contact so that, when someone creates a new Contact, they pass the address to the Address model and associate that address to the Contact: <% f.fields_for :address, @contact.address do |builder| %> <p> <%= builder.label :street1, "Street 1" %> </br> <%= builder.text_field :street1 %> <p> <% end %> When I try to Edit, the field for Street 1 is blank. And I don't know how to display the value from show.html.erb. At the bottom is my error console -- can't seem to create values in the address table: My Contacts controller is as follows: def new @contact = Contact.new @contact.address.build # Iundefined method `build' for nil:NilClass @contact.date_entered = Date.today @campaigns = Campaign.find(:all, :order => "name") if params[:campaign_id].blank? else @campaign = Campaign.find(params[:campaign_id]) @contact.campaign_id = @campaign.id end if params[:company_id].blank? else @company = Company.find(params[:company_id]) @contact.company_name = @company.name end end def create @contact = Contact.new(params[:contact]) if @contact.save flash[:notice] = "Successfully created contact." redirect_to @contact else render :action => 'new' end end def edit @contact = Contact.find(params[:id]) @campaigns = Campaign.find(:all, :order => "name") end Here is a snippet of my error console: I am POSTING the attribute, but it is not CREATING in the Address table.... • Javascript phsyics in a 2d space

    - by eroo
    So, I am working on teaching myself Canvas (HTML5) and have most of a simple game engine coded up. It is a 2d representation of a space scene (planets, stars, celestial bodies, etc). My default "Sprite" class has a frame listener like such: "baseClass" contains a function that allows inheritance and applies "a" to "this.a". So, "var aTest = new Sprite({foo: 'bar'});" would make "aTest.foo = 'bar'". This is how I expose my objects to each other. { Sprite = baseClass.extend({ init: function(a){ baseClass.init(this, a); this.fields = new Array(); // list of fields of gravity one is in. Not sure if this is a good idea. this.addFL(function(tick){ // this will change to be independent of framerate soon. // and this is where I need help // gobjs is an array of all the Sprite objects in the "world". for(i = 0; i < gobjs.length; i++){ // Make sure its got setup correctly, make sure it -wants- gravity, and make sure it's not -this- sprite. if(typeof(gobjs[i].a) != undefined && !gobjs[i].a.ignoreGravity && gobjs[i].id != this.id){ // Check if it's within a certain range (obviously, gravity doesn't work this way... But I plan on having a large "space" area, // And I can't very well have all objects accounted for at all times, can I? if(this.distanceTo(gobjs[i]) < this.s.size*10 && gobjs[i].fields.indexOf(this.id) == -1){ gobjs[i].fields.push(this.id); } } } for(i = 0; i < this.fields.length; i++){ distance = this.distanceTo(gobjs[this.fields[i]]); angletosun = this.angleTo(gobjs[this.fields[i]])*(180/Math.PI); // .angleTo works very well, returning the angle in radians, which I convert to degrees here. // I have no idea what should happen here, although through trial and error (and attempting to read Maths papers on gravity (eeeeek!)), this sort of mimics gravity. // angle is its orientation, currently I assign a constant velocity to one of my objects, and leave the other static (it ignores gravity, but still emits it). this.a.angle = angletosun+(75+(distance*-1)/5); //todo: omg learn math if(this.distanceTo(gobjs[this.fields[i]]) > gobjs[this.fields[i]].a.size*10) this.fields.splice(i); // out of range, stop effecting. } }); } }); } Thanks in advance. The real trick is that one line: { this.a.angle = angletosun+(75+(distance*-1)/5); } This is more a physics question than Javascript, but I've searched and searched and read way to many wiki articles on orbital mathematics. It gets over my head very quickly. Edit: There is a weirdness with the SO formatting; forgives me, I is noobie.

  • jQuery tablesorter sorting not working

    - by jknox
    I'm using jQuery tablesorter plugin to generate dynamically a table from a csv file, and that part is working fine. However whenever i try to sort the table by clicking on the table headers, firebug reports this problem in the console: parsers is undefined return parsers[i].type;\n Initially i though this problem was being caused by the table not being ready after the document loads, so i fixed that by manually calling tablesorter() after my table was rendered from the csv file. this didn't fix the issue though. Also, at the very end of the table, the table is drawn garbled with some gray areas at the end. I suppose this is related to the error above. The code in question is this: <html> <head> <link rel="stylesheet" href="blue/style.css" type="text/css" /> <script type="text/javascript" src="jquery-1.3.2.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="jquery.tablesorter.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="jquery.csv.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" id="js"> function sortThis() { $("#myTable").tablesorter({ // sortList:[[0,0],[2,1]] }); }; </script> <title>huh!?</title> </head> <body> <table id="myTable" class="tablesorter" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="0" border="0"> <thead> <tr> <th>name</th> <th>type</th> <th>Date</th> </tr> </thead> <tbody> <script type="text/javascript"> $.get('myfile.csv', function(data) { myfile = jQuery.csv()(data) for (var x = 0; x < myfile.length; x++) { str = "<tr>"; for (var y = 0; y < myfile[x].length; y++) { str += "<td>" + myfile[x][y] + "</td>"; } str += "</tr>"; $('#myTable').append(str); } }); sortThis(); </script> </tbody> </table> </body> </html> Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Odd C++ template behaviour with static member vars

    - by jon hanson
    This piece of code is supposed to calculate an approximation to e (i.e. the mathematical constant ~ 2.71828183) at compile-time, using the following approach; e1 = 2 / 1 e2 = (2 * 2 + 1) / (2 * 1) = 5 / 2 = 2.5 e3 = (3 * 5 + 1) / (3 * 2) = 16 / 6 ~ 2.67 e4 = (4 * 16 + 1) / (4 * 6) = 65 / 24 ~ 2.708 ... e(i) = (e(i-1).numer * i + 1) / (e(i-1).denom * i) The computation is returned via the result static member however, after 2 iterations it yields zero instead of the expected value. I've added a static member function f() to compute the same value and that doesn't exhibit the same problem. #include <iostream> #include <iomanip> // Recursive case. template<int ITERS, int NUMERATOR = 2, int DENOMINATOR = 1, int I = 2> struct CalcE { static const double result; static double f () {return CalcE<ITERS, NUMERATOR * I + 1, DENOMINATOR * I, I + 1>::f ();} }; template<int ITERS, int NUMERATOR, int DENOMINATOR, int I> const double CalcE<ITERS, NUMERATOR, DENOMINATOR, I>::result = CalcE<ITERS, NUMERATOR * I + 1, DENOMINATOR * I, I + 1>::result; // Base case. template<int ITERS, int NUMERATOR, int DENOMINATOR> struct CalcE<ITERS, NUMERATOR, DENOMINATOR, ITERS> { static const double result; static double f () {return result;} }; template<int ITERS, int NUMERATOR, int DENOMINATOR> const double CalcE<ITERS, NUMERATOR, DENOMINATOR, ITERS>::result = static_cast<double>(NUMERATOR) / DENOMINATOR; // Test it. int main (int argc, char* argv[]) { std::cout << std::setprecision (8); std::cout << "e2 ~ " << CalcE<2>::result << std::endl; std::cout << "e3 ~ " << CalcE<3>::result << std::endl; std::cout << "e4 ~ " << CalcE<4>::result << std::endl; std::cout << "e5 ~ " << CalcE<5>::result << std::endl; std::cout << std::endl; std::cout << "e2 ~ " << CalcE<2>::f () << std::endl; std::cout << "e3 ~ " << CalcE<3>::f () << std::endl; std::cout << "e4 ~ " << CalcE<4>::f () << std::endl; std::cout << "e5 ~ " << CalcE<5>::f () << std::endl; return 0; } I've tested this with VS 2008 and VS 2010, and get the same results in each case: e2 ~ 2 e3 ~ 2.5 e4 ~ 0 e5 ~ 0 e2 ~ 2 e3 ~ 2.5 e4 ~ 2.6666667 e5 ~ 2.7083333 Why does result not yield the expected values whereas f() does? According to Rotsor's comment below, this does work with GCC, so I guess the question is, am i relying on some type of undefined behaviour with regards to static initialisation order, or is this a bug with Visual Studio?

  • Need help with regex parsing (in perl)

    - by Charlie
    Hi all, need some help parsing an html file in perl. I used the LWP module to retrieve a webpage into $_ with $/ undefined so there are no newline issues. Then I'm trying to find all strings matching a pattern. How do I do that? I know how to find 1 instance of it, but how do I match all instances? and what data structure would the results go to? a multi dimensional array? my text (excerpt) looks like the following: <TR> <TD BGCOLOR=EEEEEE><A HREF="/program.cgi?pid=1233"><FONT FACE="ARIAL,HELVETICA,SANS-SERIF" SIZE=2>Title 1</A></FONT></TD> <TD BGCOLOR=EEEEEE nowrap><FONT FACE="ARIAL,HELVETICA" SIZE=2>Jun 27 2010 3:00PM</FONT></TD> <TD BGCOLOR=EEEEEE>&nbsp;</TD> </TR> <TR><TD BGCOLOR=EEEEEE COLSPAN=3><IMG SRC="http://images.domain.com/images/spacer.gif" WIDTH=1 HEIGHT=2><BR></TD></TR> <TR><TD COLSPAN=3 BGCOLOR=999999><IMG SRC="http://images.domain.com/images/spacer.gif" HEIGHT=1 WIDTH=1></TD></TR> <TR><TD COLSPAN=3 ><IMG SRC="http://images.domain.com/images/spacer.gif" WIDTH=1 HEIGHT=2><BR></TD></TR> <TR> <TD><A HREF="/program.cgi?pid=1234"><FONT FACE="ARIAL,HELVETICA,SANS-SERIF" SIZE=2>Title 2</A></FONT></TD> <TD nowrap><FONT FACE="ARIAL,HELVETICA" SIZE=2>Jun 29 2010 7:00PM</FONT></TD> <TD>&nbsp;</TD> </TR> <TR><TD COLSPAN=3><IMG SRC="http://images.domain.com/images/spacer.gif" WIDTH=1 HEIGHT=2><BR></TD></TR> <TR><TD COLSPAN=3 BGCOLOR=999999><IMG SRC="http://images.domain.com/images/spacer.gif" HEIGHT=1 WIDTH=1></TD></TR> <TR><TD COLSPAN=3 BGCOLOR=EEEEEE><IMG SRC="http://images.domain.com/images/spacer.gif" WIDTH=1 HEIGHT=2><BR></TD></TR> <TR> <TD BGCOLOR=EEEEEE><A HREF="/program.cgi?pid=1235"><FONT FACE="ARIAL,HELVETICA,SANS-SERIF" SIZE=2>Title 3</A></FONT></TD> <TD BGCOLOR=EEEEEE nowrap><FONT FACE="ARIAL,HELVETICA" SIZE=2>Jul 3 2010 7:00PM</FONT></TD> <TD BGCOLOR=EEEEEE>&nbsp;</TD> </TR> I want to get the following into an array (or any structure): { ["/program.cgi?pdi=1233", "Title 1"], ["/program.cgi?pdi=1234", "Title 2"], ["/program.cgi?pdi=1235", "Title 3"] } Thanks

  • Make interchangeable class types via pointer casting only, without having to allocate any new objects?

    - by HostileFork
    UPDATE: I do appreciate "don't want that, want this instead" suggestions. They are useful, especially when provided in context of the motivating scenario. Still...regardless of goodness/badness, I've become curious to find a hard-and-fast "yes that can be done legally in C++11" vs "no it is not possible to do something like that". I want to "alias" an object pointer as another type, for the sole purpose of adding some helper methods. The alias cannot add data members to the underlying class (in fact, the more I can prevent that from happening the better!) All aliases are equally applicable to any object of this type...it's just helpful if the type system can hint which alias is likely the most appropriate. There should be no information about any specific alias that is ever encoded in the underlying object. Hence, I feel like you should be able to "cheat" the type system and just let it be an annotation...checked at compile time, but ultimately irrelevant to the runtime casting. Something along these lines: Node<AccessorFoo>* fooPtr = Node<AccessorFoo>::createViaFactory(); Node<AccessorBar>* barPtr = reinterpret_cast< Node<AccessorBar>* >(fooPtr); Under the hood, the factory method is actually making a NodeBase class, and then using a similar reinterpret_cast to return it as a Node<AccessorFoo>*. The easy way to avoid this is to make these lightweight classes that wrap nodes and are passed around by value. Thus you don't need casting, just Accessor classes that take the node handle to wrap in their constructor: AccessorFoo foo (NodeBase::createViaFactory()); AccessorBar bar (foo.getNode()); But if I don't have to pay for all that, I don't want to. That would involve--for instance--making a special accessor type for each sort of wrapped pointer (AccessorFooShared, AccessorFooUnique, AccessorFooWeak, etc.) Having these typed pointers being aliased for one single pointer-based object identity is preferable, and provides a nice orthogonality. So back to that original question: Node<AccessorFoo>* fooPtr = Node<AccessorFoo>::createViaFactory(); Node<AccessorBar>* barPtr = reinterpret_cast< Node<AccessorBar>* >(fooPtr); Seems like there would be some way to do this that might be ugly but not "break the rules". According to ISO14882:2011(e) 5.2.10-7: An object pointer can be explicitly converted to an object pointer of a different type.70 When a prvalue v of type "pointer to T1" is converted to the type "pointer to cv T2", the result is static_cast(static_cast(v)) if both T1 and T2 are standard-layout types (3.9) and the alignment requirements of T2 are no stricter than those of T1, or if either type is void. Converting a prvalue of type "pointer to T1" to the type "pointer to T2" (where T1 and T2 are object types and where the alignment requirements of T2 are no stricter than those of T1) and back to its original type yields the original pointer value. The result of any other such pointer conversion is unspecified. Drilling into the definition of a "standard-layout class", we find: has no non-static data members of type non-standard-layout-class (or array of such types) or reference, and has no virtual functions (10.3) and no virtual base classes (10.1), and has the same access control (clause 11) for all non-static data members, and has no non-standard-layout base classes, and either has no non-static data member in the most-derived class and at most one base class with non-static data members, or has no base classes with non-static data members, and has no base classes of the same type as the first non-static data member. Sounds like working with something like this would tie my hands a bit with no virtual methods in the accessors or the node. Yet C++11 apparently has std::is_standard_layout to keep things checked. Can this be done safely? Appears to work in gcc-4.7, but I'd like to be sure I'm not invoking undefined behavior.

  • First time using select(), maybe a basic question?

    - by darkletter
    Hello people, i've been working for a few days with this server using select(). What it does, is that, i have two arrays of clients (one is "suppliers", and the other is "consumers"), and the mission of the server is to check whether the suppliers have something to send to the consumers, and in case affirmative, send it. The second part of the server is that, when the consumers have received the suppliers' info, they send a confirmation message to the same suppliers that sent the info. When a client connects, it gets recognized as "undefined", until it sends a message with the word "supplier" or "consumer" (in Spanish, as i'm from there), when the server puts it in the correct clients array. Well, what the server does is not very important here. What's important is that, i'm doing both parts with two different "for" loops, and that's where i'm getting the problems. When the first user connects to the server (be it a supplier or a consumer), the server gets stuck in the first or second loop, instead of just continuing its execution. As it's the first time i'm using select(), i may be missing something. Could you guys give me any sort of help? Thanks a lot in advance. for(;;) { rset=allset; nready=select(maxfd+1,&rset,NULL,NULL,NULL); if (FD_ISSET(sockfd, &rset)){ clilen=sizeof(cliente); if((connfd=accept(sockfd,(struct sockaddr *)&cliente,&clilen))<0) printf("Error"); IP=inet_ntoa(cliente.sin_addr); for(i=0;i<COLA;i++){if(indef[i]<0){indef[i]=connfd;IPind[i]=IP;break;}} FD_SET(connfd,&allset); if(connfd > maxfd) maxfd=connfd; if(i>maxii) maxii=i; if(--nready<=0) continue; }// Fin ISSET(sockfd) for(i=0;i<=maxii;i++){ if((sockfd1=indef[i])<0){ continue;} //! if(FD_ISSET(sockfd1,&rset)){ if((n=read(sockfd1,comp,MAXLINE))==0){close(sockfd1);FD_CLR(sockfd1,&allset);indef[i]=-1;printf("Cliente indefinido desconectado \n");} else{ comp[n]='\0'; if(strcmp(comp,"suministrador")==0){ for(j=0;j<=limite;j++){if(sumi[j]<0){IPsum[j]=IPind[i];sumi[j]=indef[i]; indef[i]=-1;if(j>maxis) {maxis=j;}break; } } } else if(strcmp(comp,"consumidor")==0){ for(o=0;j<=limite;j++){if(consum[o]<0){IPcons[o]=IPind[i];consum[o]=indef[i]; indef[o]=-1;if(o>maxic) {maxic=o;}break; } } } if(--nready <=0)break; } } }//fin bucle for maxii for(i=0;i<=maxis;i++){ if((sockfd2=sumi[i])<0){continue;} if(FD_ISSET(sockfd2,&rset)){ if((n=read(sockfd2,buffer2,MAXLINE))==0){close(sockfd2);FD_CLR(sockfd2,&allset);sumi[i]=-1;printf("Suministrador desconectado \n");} else{ buffer2[n]='\0'; for(j=0;j<=maxic;j++){ if((sockfd3=consum[j])<0){ continue;} else {strcpy(final,IPsum[i]);strcat(final,":");strcat(final,buffer2);write(sockfd3,final,sizeof(final));respuesta[i]=1;} } break; // ? } } }//fin for maxis for(i=miniic;i<=maxic;i++){ if((sockfd4=consum[i])<0){continue;} if(FD_ISSET(sockfd4,&rset)){ if((n=read(sockfd4,buffer3,MAXLINE))==0){close(sockfd4);FD_CLR(sockfd4,&allset);consum[i]=-1;printf("Consumidor desconectado \n");} else{ buffer3[n]='\0'; IP2=strtok(buffer3,":"); obj=strtok(NULL,":"); for(j=0;j<100;j++){ if((strcmp(IPsum[j],IP2)==0) && (respuesta[j]==1)) {write(sumi[j],obj,sizeof(obj)); miniic=i+1; respuesta[j]=0; break; } } } } }

    How do I create a user welcome message in php. So that the user who has been logged on will be able to see his username. I have this code, but it doesn't seem to work. <?php $con = mysql_connect("localhost","root","nitoryolai123$%^"); if (!$con) { die('Could not connect: ' . mysql_error()); } mysql_select_db("school", $con); $result = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM users WHERE Username='$username'"); while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { echo $row['Username']; echo "<br />"; } ?> I'm trying to make use of the data that is inputted in this login form: <form name="form1" method="post" action="verifylogin.php"> <td> <table border="0" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1" bgcolor=""> <tr> <td colspan="16" height="25" style="background:#5C915C; color:white; border:white 1px solid; text-align: left"><strong><font size="2">Login User</strong></td> </tr> <tr> <td width="30" height="35"><font size="2">Username:</td> <td width="30"><input name="myusername" type="text" id="idnum" maxlength="5"></td> </tr> <tr> <td width="30" height="35" ><font size="2">Password:</td> <td width="30"><input name="mypassword" type="password" id="lname" maxlength="15"></td> </tr> <td align="right" width="30"><td align="right" width="30"><input type="submit" name="Submit" value="Submit" /></td> <td align="right" width="30"><input type="reset" name="Reset" value="Reset"></td></td> </tr> </form> But this, verifylogin.php, seems to be in the way. <?php $host="localhost"; $username="root"; $password="nitoryolai123$%^"; $db_name="school"; $tbl_name="users"; mysql_connect("$host", "$username", "$password")or die("cannot connect"); mysql_select_db("$db_name")or die("cannot select DB"); $myusername=$_POST['myusername']; $mypassword=$_POST['mypassword']; $myusername = stripslashes($myusername); $mypassword = stripslashes($mypassword); $myusername = mysql_real_escape_string($myusername); $mypassword = mysql_real_escape_string($mypassword); $sql="SELECT * FROM $tbl_name WHERE username='$myusername' and password='$mypassword'"; $result=mysql_query($sql); $count=mysql_num_rows($result); if($count==1){ session_register("myusername"); session_register("mypassword"); header("location:userpage.php"); } else { echo "Wrong Username or Password"; } ?> How do I do it?   • Slideshow positioning problem

    I have a javascript slideshow that works perfectly on Windows 7, Firefox, Chrome, IE 8+ (I don't have the resources to check 6 or 7) and Opera. But I've been told that when on xp with IE 7 the slidshow gets thrown off screen to the right. What could my issue be? Here is my css: #page { width:940px; margin: auto; } gallery { position:relative; padding:0px; margin:5px 0px; width:940px; height:320px; } gallery li { display: block; width:940px; height:320 list-style:none; } And here is my javascript: var galleryId = 'gallery'; var gallery; var galleryImages; var currentImage; var previousImage; var preInitTimer; preInit(); function preInit() { if ((document.getElementById)&&(gallery=document.getElementById(galleryId))) { gallery.style.visibility = "hidden"; if (typeof preInitTimer != 'undefined') clearTimeout(preInitTimer); } else { preInitTimer = setTimeout("preInit()",2); } } function fader(imageNumber,opacity) { var obj=galleryImages[imageNumber]; if (obj.style) { if (obj.style.MozOpacity!=null) { obj.style.MozOpacity = (opacity/100) - .001; } else if (obj.style.opacity!=null) { obj.style.opacity = (opacity/100) - .001; } else if (obj.style.filter!=null) { obj.style.filter = "alpha(opacity="+opacity+")"; } } } function fadeInit() { if (document.getElementById) { preInit(); galleryImages = new Array; var node = gallery.firstChild; while (node) { if (node.nodeType==1) { galleryImages.push(node); } node = node.nextSibling; } for(i=0;i galleryImages[i].style.position='absolute'; galleryImages[i].style.top=0; galleryImages[i].style.zIndex=0; fader(i,0); } gallery.style.visibility = 'visible'; currentImage=0; previousImage=galleryImages.length-1; opacity=100; fader(currentImage,100); window.setTimeout("crossfade(100)", 1000); } } function crossfade(opacity) { if (opacity < 100) { fader(currentImage,opacity); opacity += 9; window.setTimeout("crossfade("+opacity+")", 50); } else { fader(previousImage,0); previousImage=currentImage; currentImage+=1; if (currentImage=galleryImages.length) { currentImage=0; } galleryImages[previousImage].style.zIndex = 0; galleryImages[currentImage].style.zIndex = 100; opacity=0; window.setTimeout("crossfade("+opacity+")", 5000); } } addEvent(window,'load',fadeInit) function addEvent(elm, evType, fn, useCapture) { if (elm.addEventListener){ elm.addEventListener(evType, fn, useCapture); return true; } else if (elm.attachEvent){ var r = elm.attachEvent("on"+evType, fn); return r; } } And ideas?

  • No Method Error in Ruby

    - by JayG
    Hi, I currently have a Rails Apps that lets users drag and drop certain elements of the webpage and updates the application based on the users choice. This is done with the help of the Rails helpers and AJAX. However I keep running into a "NoMethodError" in Ruby. NoMethodError in ProjectsController#member_change undefined method `symbolize_keys' for nil:NilClass Here is the method that is being called. My trace says that error is occurring in this line: before = u.functions_for(r.authorizable_id) u.roles << r unless u.roles.include? r u.save flag_changed = true after = u.functions_for(r.authorizable_id) And here is the function being called def member_change flag_changed = false params['u'] =~ /role_(\d+)_user_(\d+)/ drag_role_id = $1 user_id = $2 params['r'] =~ /role_(\d+)/ drop_role_id = $1 if u=User.find(user_id) if r=Role.find(drop_role_id) if drag_role_id.to_i !=0 and old_r=Role.find(drag_role_id) if drag_role_id == drop_role_id #fom A to A => nothing happen flash.now[:warning] = _('No Operation...') elsif r.authorizable_id == old_r.authorizable_id #the same project? old_r.users.delete(u) unless old_r.valid? flash.now[:warning] = _('Group "Admin" CAN NOT be EMPTY.') old_r.users << u #TODO: better recovery member_edit #if flag_changed render :action => :member_edit, :layout => 'module_with_flash' return end old_r.save r.users << u unless r.users.include? u r.save flag_changed = true before = u.functions_for(r.authorizable_id) after = u.functions_for(r.authorizable_id) added = after - before removed = before - after added.each do |f| ApplicationController::send_msg(:function,:create, {:function_name => f.name, :user_id => u.id, :project_id => r.authorizable_id }) end removed.each do |f| ApplicationController::send_msg(:function,:delete, {:function_name => f.name, :user_id => u.id, :project_id => r.authorizable_id }) end flash.now[:notice] = _( 'Move User to Group' ) + " #{ r.name }" else flash.now[:warning] = _('You can\'t move User between Groups that belong to different Projects.') end else before = u.functions_for(r.authorizable_id) u.roles << r unless u.roles.include? r u.save flag_changed = true after = u.functions_for(r.authorizable_id) added = after - before added.each do |f| ApplicationController::send_msg(:function,:create, {:function_name => f.name, :user_id => u.id, :project_id => r.authorizable_id }) end flash.now[:notice] = _( 'Add User into Group' ) + " #{ r.name }" end else flash.now[:warn] = _( 'Group doesn\'t exist!' ) + ": #{ r.name }" end else flash.now[:warning] = _( 'User doesn\'t exist!' ) + ": #{ u.login }" end member_edit #if flag_changed render :action => :member_edit, :layout => 'module_with_flash' end and the JavaScript used to call the function jQuery('#RemoveThisMember').droppable({accept:'.RolesUsersSelection', drop:function(ev,ui){ if (confirm("This will remove User from this Group, are you sure?")) {jQuery.ajax({data:'u=' + encodeURIComponent(jQuery(ui.draggable).attr('id')), success:function(request){jQuery('#module_content').html(request);}, type:'post', url:'/of/projects/11/member_delete'});} }, hoverClass:'ProjectRoleDropDelete_active'}) Any ideas?   • Having different database sorting order (default_scope) for two different views

    - by Juniper747
    In my model (pins.rb), I have two sorting orders: default_scope order: 'pins.featured DESC' #for adding featured posts to the top of a list default_scope order: 'pins.created_at DESC' #for adding the remaining posts beneath the featured posts This sorting order (above) is how I want my 'pins view' (index.html.erb) to look. Which is just a list of ALL user posts. In my 'users view' (show.html.erb) I am using the same model (pins.rb) to list only current_user pins. HOWEVER, I want to sorting order to ignore the "featured" default scope and only use the second scope: default_scope order: 'pins.created_at DESC' How can I accomplish this? I tried doing something like this: default_scope order: 'pins.featured DESC', only: :index default_scope order: 'pins.created_at DESC' But that didn't fly... UPDATE I updated my model to define a scope: scope :featy, order: 'pins.featured DESC' default_scope order: 'pins.created_at DESC' And updated my pins view to: <%= render @pins.featy %> However, now when I open my pins view, I get the error: undefined method `featy' for #<Array:0x00000100ddbc78> UPDATE 2 User.rb class User < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :name, :email, :username, :password, :password_confirmation, :avatar, :password_reset_token, :password_reset_sent_at has_secure_password has_many :pins, dependent: :destroy #destroys user posts when user is destroyed # has_many :featured_pins, order: 'featured DESC', class_name: "Pin", source: :pin has_attached_file :avatar, :styles => { :medium => "300x300#", :thumb => "120x120#" } before_save { |user| user.email = user.email.downcase } before_save { |user| user.username = user.username.downcase } before_save :create_remember_token before_save :capitalize_name validates :name, presence: true, length: { maximum: 50 } VALID_EMAIL_REGEX = /\A[\w+\-.]+@[a-z\d\-.]+\.[a-z]+\z/i VALID_USERNAME_REGEX = /^[A-Za-z0-9]+(?:[_][A-Za-z0-9]+)*$/ validates :email, presence: true, format: { with: VALID_EMAIL_REGEX }, uniqueness: { case_sensitive: false } validates :username, presence: true, format: { with: VALID_USERNAME_REGEX }, uniqueness: { case_sensitive: false } validates :password, length: { minimum: 6 }, on: :create #on create, because was causing erros on pw_reset Pin.rb class Pin < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :content, :title, :privacy, :date, :dark, :bright, :fragmented, :hashtag, :emotion, :user_id, :imagesource, :imageowner, :featured belongs_to :user before_save :capitalize_title before_validation :generate_slug validates :content, presence: true, length: { maximum: 8000 } validates :title, presence: true, length: { maximum: 24 } validates :imagesource, presence: { message: "Please search and choose an image" }, length: { maximum: 255 } validates_inclusion_of :privacy, :in => [true, false] validates :slug, uniqueness: true, presence: true, exclusion: {in: %w[signup signin signout home info privacy]} # for sorting featured and newest posts first default_scope order: 'pins.created_at DESC' scope :featured_order, order: 'pins.featured DESC' def to_param slug # or "#{id}-#{name}".parameterize end def generate_slug # makes the url slug address bar freindly self.slug ||= loop do random_token = Digest::MD5.hexdigest(Time.zone.now.to_s + title)[0..9]+"-"+"#{title}".parameterize break random_token unless Pin.where(slug: random_token).exists? end end protected def capitalize_title self.title = title.split.map(&:capitalize).join(' ') end end users_controller.rb class UsersController < ApplicationController before_filter :signed_in_user, only: [:edit, :update, :show] before_filter :correct_user, only: [:edit, :update, :show] before_filter :admin_user, only: :destroy def index if !current_user.admin? redirect_to root_path end end def menu @user = current_user end def show @user = User.find(params[:id]) @pins = @user.pins current_user.touch(:last_log_in) #sets the last log in time if [email protected]? render 'pages/info/' end end def new @user = User.new end pins_controller.rb class PinsController < ApplicationController before_filter :signed_in_user, except: [:show] # GET /pins, GET /pins.json def index #Live Feed @pins = Pin.all @featured_pins = Pin.featured_order respond_to do |format| format.html # index.html.erb format.json { render json: @pins } end end # GET /pins, GET /pins.json def show #single Pin View @pin = Pin.find_by_slug!(params[:id]) require 'uri' #this gets the photo's id from the stored uri @image_id = URI(@pin.imagesource).path.split('/').second if @pin.privacy == true #check for private pins if signed_in? if @pin.user_id == current_user.id respond_to do |format| format.html # show.html.erb format.json { render json: @pin } end else redirect_to home_path, notice: "Prohibited 1" end else redirect_to home_path, notice: "Prohibited 2" end else respond_to do |format| format.html # show.html.erb format.json { render json: @pin } end end end # GET /pins, GET /pins.json def new @pin = current_user.pins.new respond_to do |format| format.html # new.html.erb format.json { render json: @pin } end end # GET /pins/1/edit def edit @pin = current_user.pins.find_by_slug!(params[:id]) end Finally, on my index.html.erb I have: <%= render @featured_pins %>

  • Safely defining variables for public callback functions in javascript

    - by djreed
    I am working with the YouTube iFrame API to embed a number of videos on a page. Documentation here: https://developers.google.com/youtube/iframe_api_reference#Requirements In summary, you load the API asynchronously using the following snippet: var tag = document.createElement('script'); tag.src = "http://www.youtube.com/player_api"; var firstScriptTag = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; firstScriptTag.parentNode.insertBefore(tag, firstScriptTag); Once loaded, the API fires the predefined callback function onYouTubePlayerAPIReady. For additional context: I am defining a library file for this in Google Closure. I am providing a namespace: goog.provide('yt.video'); I then use goog.exportSymbol so that the API can find the function. That all works fine. My challenge is that I would like to pass 2 variables to the callback function. Is there any way to do this without defining these 2 variables in the context of the window object? goog.provide('yt.video'); goog.require('goog.dom'); yt.video = function(videos, locales) { this.videos = videos; this.captionLocales = locales; this.init(); }; yt.video.prototype.init = function() { var tag = document.createElement('script'); tag.src = "http://www.youtube.com/player_api"; var firstScriptTag = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; firstScriptTag.parentNode.insertBefore(tag, firstScriptTag); }; /* * Callback function fired when YT API is ready * This is exported using goog.exportSymbol in another file and * is being fired by the API properly. */ yt.video.prototype.onPlayerReady = function(videos, locales) { window.console.log('this :' + this); //logs window window.console.log('this.videos : ' + this.videos); //logs undefined /* * Video settings from Django variable */ for(i=0; i<this.videos.length; i++) { var playerEvents = {}; var embedVars = {}; var el = this.videos[i].el; var playerVid = this.videos[i].vid; var playerWidth = this.videos[i].width; var playerHeight = this.videos[i].height; var captionLocales = this.videos[i].locales; if(this.videos[i].playerVars) var embedVars = this.videos[i].playerVars; } if(this.videos[i].events) { var playerEvents = this.videos[i].events; } /* * Show captions by default */ if(goog.array.indexOf(captionLocales, 'es') >= 0) { embedVars.cc_load_policy = 1; }; new YT.Player(el, { height: playerHeight, width: playerWidth, videoId: playerVid, events: playerEvents, playerVars: embedVars }); }; }; To intialize this, I am currently using the following within a self-executing anonymous function: var videos = [ {"vid": "video_id", "el": "player-1", "width": 640, "height": 390, "locales": ["es", "fr"], "events": {"onStateChange": stateChanged}}, {"vid": "video_id", "el": "player-2", "locales": ["es", "fr"], "width": 640, "height": 390} ]; var locales = ['es']; var videoTemplate = new yt.video(videos, locales);

  • why the global variable value is not being set?

    - by masato-san
    I can't figure out why my global variable workRegionCode is not set properly. In function getWorkRegion(), after getting ajax callback, it attempt to set workRegionCode global variable. (inside of function setFirstIndexWorkRegionCode() ). The alert in setFirstIndexWorkRegionCode() outputs expected value like 401 or 123 etc. But then when getMachines() is called, the global variable workRegionCode is undefiend :( This js starts from window.onload() (please ignore those Japanese JSON key value and few Japanese variables. They are harmless) Code: var workRegionDropdown = document.getElementById("workRegionDropdown");; var machineDropdown = document.getElementById("machineDropdown"); //this is the global variable with problem..... var workRegionCode; //INIT window.onload = function() { getWorkRegions(); // alert("before: " + window.workRegionCode); getMachines(); // alert("after: " + window.workRegionCode); } function addWorkRegionToDropdown(jsonObject, dropdown) { for(var i=0, j=jsonObject.length; i<j; i++) { var option = document.createElement("option"); option.text = jsonObject[i].?????? + ":" + jsonObject[i].??????; option.value = jsonObject[i].??????; dropdown.options.add(option); } } function addMachineToDropdown(jsonObject, dropdown) { for(var i=0, j=jsonObject.length; i<j; i++) { var option = document.createElement("option"); option.text = jsonObject[i].???; option.value = jsonObject[i].???; dropdown.options.add(option); } } function getMachines() { //!!!!!!!!!!! workRegionCode is undefined.. why?!?!?! alert("inside of getMachines() ==> " + window.workRegionCode); var ajaxRequest = new XMLHttpRequest(); ajaxTimeout = setTimeout(function() {timeoutAjax(ajaxRequest, "showMessage")}, "5000"); ajaxRequest.onreadystatechange = function() { if(ajaxRequest.readyState == 4 ) { clearTimeout(ajaxTimeout); switch ( ajaxRequest.status ) { case 200: var jsonOut = JSON.parse(ajaxRequest.responseText); addMachineToDropdown(jsonOut.??, machineDropdown); break; default: document.getElementById("showMessage").innerHTML = ajaxRequest.responseText; } } } var aMonthAgo = new Date(); with(aMonthAgo) { setMonth(getMonth() - 1) } aMonthAgo = aMonthAgo.getYYYYMMDD(); var ??? = "29991231"; var url = "../resources/machine/list/" + window.workRegionCode + "/" + aMonthAgo + "/" + ???; ajaxRequest.open("GET", url, true); ajaxRequest.send(null) } function getWorkRegions() { var ajaxRequest = new XMLHttpRequest(); ajaxTimeout = setTimeout(function() {timeoutAjax(ajaxRequest, "showMessage")}, "5000"); ajaxRequest.onreadystatechange = function() { if(ajaxRequest.readyState == 4 ) { clearTimeout(ajaxTimeout); switch ( ajaxRequest.status ) { case 200: var jsonOut = JSON.parse(ajaxRequest.responseText); //set global variable workRegionCode setFirstIndexWorkRegionCode(jsonOut); addWorkRegionToDropdown(jsonOut.???, workRegionDropdown); default: document.getElementById("showMessage").innerHTML = ajaxRequest.responseText; } } } var url = "../resources/workshop/list"; ajaxRequest.open("GET", url, true); ajaxRequest.send(null) }//end getWorkRegions() function setFirstIndexWorkRegionCode(jsonString) { //here I set the value to work region code! window.workRegionCode = jsonString.???[0].??????; alert("??????: " + window.workRegionCode); }

  • April 2013 Release of the Ajax Control Toolkit

    - by Stephen.Walther
    I’m excited to announce the April 2013 release of the Ajax Control Toolkit. For this release, we focused on improving two controls: the AjaxFileUpload and the MaskedEdit controls. You can download the latest release from CodePlex at http://AjaxControlToolkit.CodePlex.com or, better yet, you can execute the following NuGet command within Visual Studio 2010/2012: There are three builds of the Ajax Control Toolkit: .NET 3.5, .NET 4.0, and .NET 4.5. A Better AjaxFileUpload Control We completely rewrote the AjaxFileUpload control for this release. We had two primary goals. First, we wanted to support uploading really large files. In particular, we wanted to support uploading multi-gigabyte files such as video files or application files. Second, we wanted to support showing upload progress on as many browsers as possible. The previous version of the AjaxFileUpload could show upload progress when used with Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox but not when used with Apple Safari or Microsoft Internet Explorer. The new version of the AjaxFileUpload control shows upload progress when used with any browser. Using the AjaxFileUpload Control Let me walk-through using the AjaxFileUpload in the most basic scenario. And then, in following sections, I can explain some of its more advanced features. Here’s how you can declare the AjaxFileUpload control in a page: <ajaxToolkit:ToolkitScriptManager runat="server" /> <ajaxToolkit:AjaxFileUpload ID="AjaxFileUpload1" AllowedFileTypes="mp4" OnUploadComplete="AjaxFileUpload1_UploadComplete" runat="server" /> The exact appearance of the AjaxFileUpload control depends on the features that a browser supports. In the case of Google Chrome, which supports drag-and-drop upload, here’s what the AjaxFileUpload looks like: Notice that the page above includes two Ajax Control Toolkit controls: the AjaxFileUpload and the ToolkitScriptManager control. You always need to include the ToolkitScriptManager with any page which uses Ajax Control Toolkit controls. The AjaxFileUpload control declared in the page above includes an event handler for its UploadComplete event. This event handler is declared in the code-behind page like this: protected void AjaxFileUpload1_UploadComplete(object sender, AjaxControlToolkit.AjaxFileUploadEventArgs e) { // Save uploaded file to App_Data folder AjaxFileUpload1.SaveAs(MapPath("~/App_Data/" + e.FileName)); } This method saves the uploaded file to your website’s App_Data folder. I’m assuming that you have an App_Data folder in your project – if you don’t have one then you need to create one or you will get an error. There is one more thing that you must do in order to get the AjaxFileUpload control to work. The AjaxFileUpload control relies on an HTTP Handler named AjaxFileUploadHandler.axd. You need to declare this handler in your application’s root web.config file like this: <configuration> <system.web> <compilation debug="true" targetFramework="4.5" /> <httpRuntime targetFramework="4.5" maxRequestLength="42949672" /> <httpHandlers> <add verb="*" path="AjaxFileUploadHandler.axd" type="AjaxControlToolkit.AjaxFileUploadHandler, AjaxControlToolkit"/> </httpHandlers> </system.web> <system.webServer> <validation validateIntegratedModeConfiguration="false"/> <handlers> <add name="AjaxFileUploadHandler" verb="*" path="AjaxFileUploadHandler.axd" type="AjaxControlToolkit.AjaxFileUploadHandler, AjaxControlToolkit"/> </handlers> <security> <requestFiltering> <requestLimits maxAllowedContentLength="4294967295"/> </requestFiltering> </security> </system.webServer> </configuration> Notice that the web.config file above also contains configuration settings for the maxRequestLength and maxAllowedContentLength. You need to assign large values to these configuration settings — as I did in the web.config file above — in order to accept large file uploads. Supporting Chunked File Uploads Because one of our primary goals with this release was support for large file uploads, we added support for client-side chunking. When you upload a file using a browser which fully supports the HTML5 File API — such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox — then the file is uploaded in multiple chunks. You can see chunking in action by opening F12 Developer Tools in your browser and observing the Network tab: Notice that there is a crazy number of distinct post requests made (about 360 distinct requests for a 1 gigabyte file). Each post request looks like this: http://localhost:24338/AjaxFileUploadHandler.axd?contextKey={DA8BEDC8-B952-4d5d-8CC2-59FE922E2923}&fileId=B7CCE31C-6AB1-BB28-2940-49E0C9B81C64 &fileName=Sita_Sings_the_Blues_480p_2150kbps.mp4&chunked=true&firstChunk=false Each request posts another chunk of the file being uploaded. Notice that the request URL includes a chunked=true parameter which indicates that the browser is breaking the file being uploaded into multiple chunks. Showing Upload Progress on All Browsers The previous version of the AjaxFileUpload control could display upload progress only in the case of browsers which fully support the HTML5 File API. The new version of the AjaxFileUpload control can display upload progress in the case of all browsers. If a browser does not fully support the HTML5 File API then the browser polls the server every few seconds with an Ajax request to determine the percentage of the file that has been uploaded. This technique of displaying progress works with any browser which supports making Ajax requests. There is one catch. Be warned that this new feature only works with the .NET 4.0 and .NET 4.5 versions of the AjaxControlToolkit. To show upload progress, we are taking advantage of the new ASP.NET HttpRequest.GetBufferedInputStream() and HttpRequest.GetBufferlessInputStream() methods which are not supported by .NET 3.5. For example, here is what the Network tab looks like when you use the AjaxFileUpload with Microsoft Internet Explorer: Here’s what the requests in the Network tab look like: GET /WebForm1.aspx?contextKey={DA8BEDC8-B952-4d5d-8CC2-59FE922E2923}&poll=1&guid=9206FF94-76F9-B197-D1BC-EA9AD282806B HTTP/1.1 Notice that each request includes a poll=1 parameter. This parameter indicates that this is a polling request to get the size of the file buffered on the server. Here’s what the response body of a request looks like when about 20% of a file has been uploaded: Buffering to a Temporary File When you upload a file using the AjaxFileUpload control, the file upload is buffered to a temporary file located at Path.GetTempPath(). When you call the SaveAs() method, as we did in the sample page above, the temporary file is copied to a new file and then the temporary file is deleted. If you don’t call the SaveAs() method, then you must ensure that the temporary file gets deleted yourself. For example, if you want to save the file to a database then you will never call the SaveAs() method and you are responsible for deleting the file. The easiest way to delete the temporary file is to call the AjaxFileUploadEventArgs.DeleteTemporaryData() method in the UploadComplete handler: protected void AjaxFileUpload1_UploadComplete(object sender, AjaxControlToolkit.AjaxFileUploadEventArgs e) { // Save uploaded file to a database table e.DeleteTemporaryData(); } You also can call the static AjaxFileUpload.CleanAllTemporaryData() method to delete all temporary data and not only the temporary data related to the current file upload. For example, you might want to call this method on application start to ensure that all temporary data is removed whenever your application restarts. A Better MaskedEdit Extender This release of the Ajax Control Toolkit contains bug fixes for the top-voted issues related to the MaskedEdit control. We closed over 25 MaskedEdit issues. • September 2012 Release of the Ajax Control Toolkit

    - by Stephen.Walther
    I’m excited to announce the September 2012 release of the Ajax Control Toolkit! This is the first release of the Ajax Control Toolkit which supports the .NET 4.5 framework. We also continue to support ASP.NET 3.5 and ASP.NET 4.0. With this release, we’ve made several important bug fixes. The Superexpert team focused on fixing the highest voted issues associated with the CascadingDropDown control. I’ve created a list of these bug fixes later in this blog post. You can download the latest release of the Ajax Control Toolkit by visiting the following page at CodePlex: http://AjaxControlToolkit.CodePlex.com Alternatively, you can install the latest version of the Ajax Control Toolkit using NuGet by firing off the following command from the Package Manager Console: Install-Package AjaxControlToolkit Using the Ajax Control Toolkit with ASP.NET 4.5 Let me walk through the steps for using the Ajax Control Toolkit with ASP.NET 4.5. First, I’ll create a new ASP.NET 4.5 website with Visual Studio 2012. I’ll create the new website with the ASP.NET Web Forms Application template: When you create a new ASP.NET 4.5 site with the ASP.NET Web Forms Application template, you get a starter website. If you run the site, then you get a page with default content: Let me show you how you can add the Ajax Control Toolkit Calendar control to the homepage of this starter site. The first step is to use NuGet to install the Ajax Control Toolkit. Right-click the References folder in the Solution Explorer window and select the menu option Manage NuGet Packages. In the Manage NuGet Packages dialog, use the search box to search for the Ajax Control Toolkit (enter “AjaxControlToolkit”). After you find it, click the Install button to add the Ajax Control Toolkit to your project. That’s all you have to do to install the Ajax Control Toolkit! Now we are ready to start using the Ajax Control Toolkit controls. Open the default.aspx page so we can modify the contents of the page. Erase everything contained in the Content control with the ID of BodyContent. After erasing the content, declare the following two controls: <asp:TextBox ID="vacationDate" runat="server" /> <ajaxToolkit:CalendarExtender TargetControlID="vacationDate" runat="server" /> The first control is a standard ASP.NET TextBox control and the second control is an Ajax Control Toolkit Calendar control. You should get intellisense as you type out the Ajax Control Toolkit Calendar control. If you don’t, then close and re-open the Default.aspx page. Now, let’s run our app. Hit the F5 button or select Debug, Start Debugging from the Visual Studio menu. You will get the error message “MsAjaxBundle is not a valid script name”. Don’t despair! We need to update the Master Page so it uses the ToolkitScriptManager instead of the default ScriptManager. Open the Site.Master file and find where the ScriptManager is declared. The ScriptManager should look like this: <asp:ScriptManager runat="server"> <Scripts> <%--Framework Scripts--%> <asp:ScriptReference Name="MsAjaxBundle" /> <asp:ScriptReference Name="jquery" /> <asp:ScriptReference Name="jquery.ui.combined" /> <asp:ScriptReference Name="WebForms.js" Assembly="System.Web" Path="~/Scripts/WebForms/WebForms.js" /> <asp:ScriptReference Name="WebUIValidation.js" Assembly="System.Web" Path="~/Scripts/WebForms/WebUIValidation.js" /> <asp:ScriptReference Name="MenuStandards.js" Assembly="System.Web" Path="~/Scripts/WebForms/MenuStandards.js" /> <asp:ScriptReference Name="GridView.js" Assembly="System.Web" Path="~/Scripts/WebForms/GridView.js" /> <asp:ScriptReference Name="DetailsView.js" Assembly="System.Web" Path="~/Scripts/WebForms/DetailsView.js" /> <asp:ScriptReference Name="TreeView.js" Assembly="System.Web" Path="~/Scripts/WebForms/TreeView.js" /> <asp:ScriptReference Name="WebParts.js" Assembly="System.Web" Path="~/Scripts/WebForms/WebParts.js" /> <asp:ScriptReference Name="Focus.js" Assembly="System.Web" Path="~/Scripts/WebForms/Focus.js" /> <asp:ScriptReference Name="WebFormsBundle" /> <%--Site Scripts--%> </Scripts> </asp:ScriptManager> We need to make three changes to the ScriptManager: 1) We need to replace the asp:ScriptManager with the ajaxToolkit:ToolkitScriptManager 2) We need to remove the MsAjaxBundle bundle from the ScriptReferences 3) We need to remove the Assembly=”System.Web” attributes from the ScriptReferences After you make these three changes, the ToolkitScriptManager should looks like this: <ajaxToolkit:ToolkitScriptManager runat="server"> <Scripts> <%--Framework Scripts--%> <asp:ScriptReference Name="jquery" /> <asp:ScriptReference Name="jquery.ui.combined" /> <asp:ScriptReference Name="WebForms.js" Path="~/Scripts/WebForms/WebForms.js" /> <asp:ScriptReference Name="WebUIValidation.js" Path="~/Scripts/WebForms/WebUIValidation.js" /> <asp:ScriptReference Name="MenuStandards.js" Path="~/Scripts/WebForms/MenuStandards.js" /> <asp:ScriptReference Name="GridView.js" Path="~/Scripts/WebForms/GridView.js" /> <asp:ScriptReference Name="DetailsView.js" Path="~/Scripts/WebForms/DetailsView.js" /> <asp:ScriptReference Name="TreeView.js" Path="~/Scripts/WebForms/TreeView.js" /> <asp:ScriptReference Name="WebParts.js" Path="~/Scripts/WebForms/WebParts.js" /> <asp:ScriptReference Name="Focus.js" Path="~/Scripts/WebForms/Focus.js" /> <asp:ScriptReference Name="WebFormsBundle" /> <%--Site Scripts--%> </Scripts> </ajaxToolkit:ToolkitScriptManager> After we make these changes, the app should run successfully. You’ll get a page which contains a text field. When you click inside the text field, a popup calendar is displayed. Ajax Control Toolkit and jQuery You might have noticed that the ScriptManager includes a reference to jQuery by default. We did not remove that reference when we converted the ScriptManager to a ToolkitScriptManager. You can use the Ajax Control Toolkit and jQuery side-by-side. Here’s how you can modify the Default.aspx page so that it contains two popup calendars. The first popup calendar is created with the Ajax Control Toolkit and the second popup calendar is created with jQuery: <asp:TextBox ID="vacationDate" runat="server" /> <ajaxToolkit:CalendarExtender TargetControlID="vacationDate" runat="server" /> <input id="birthDate" /> <script> $("#birthDate").datepicker(); </script> Before you can start using jQuery UI plugins, you need to complete one more step. You need to add the jQuery UI themes bundle to the HEAD of the Site.Master page like this: <head runat="server"> <meta charset="utf-8" /> <title><%: Page.Title %> - My ASP.NET Application</title> <asp:PlaceHolder runat="server"> <%: Scripts.Render("~/bundles/modernizr") %> </asp:PlaceHolder> <webopt:BundleReference runat="server" Path="~/Content/css" /> <webopt:BundleReference runat="server" Path="~/Content/themes/base/css" /> <link href="~/favicon.ico" rel="shortcut icon" type="image/x-icon" /> <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width" /> <asp:ContentPlaceHolder runat="server" ID="HeadContent" /> </head> The markup above includes a reference to the jQuery UI themes bundle: <webopt:BundleReference runat="server" Path="~/Content/themes/base/css" /> Now that we have made these changes, we can use the Ajax Control Toolkit and jQuery at the same time. When you run your app, you get two popup calendars. When you click in the first text field, the Ajax Control Toolkit calendar appears. When you click in the second text field, the jQuery UI popup calendar appears: Bug Fixes in this Release We made several important bug fixes with this release of the Ajax Control Toolkit and integrated several Pull Requests contributed by the community. • This is the End of Business as Usual...

    - by Michael Snow
    This week, we'll be hosting our last Social Business Thought Leader Series Webcast for 2012. Our featured guest this week will be Brian Solis of Altimeter Group. As we've been going through the preparations for Brian's webcast, it became very clear that an hour's time is barely scraping the surface of the depth of Brian's insights and analysis. Accordingly, in the spirit of sharing Brian's perspective for all of our readers, we'll be featuring guest posts all this week pulled from Brian's larger collection of blog postings on his own website. If you like what you've read here this week, we highly recommend digging deeper into his tome of wisdom. Guest Post by Brian Solis, Analyst, Altimeter Group as originally featured on his site with the minor change of the video addition at the beginning of the post. This is the End of Business as Usual and the Beginning of a New Era of Relevance - Brian Solis, Principal Analyst, Altimeter Group The Times They Are A-Changin’ Come gather ’round people Wherever you roam And admit that the waters Around you have grown And accept it that soon You’ll be drenched to the bone If your time to you Is worth savin’ Then you better start swimmin’ Or you’ll sink like a stone For the times they are a-changin’. - Bob Dylan I’m sure you are wondering why I chose lyrics to open this article. If you skimmed through them, stop here for a moment. Go back through the Dylan’s words and take your time. Carefully read, and feel, what it is he’s saying and savor the moment to connect the meaning of his words to the challenges you face today. His message is as important and true today as it was when they were first written in 1964. The tide is indeed once again turning. And even though the 60s now live in the history books, right here, right now, Dylan is telling us once again that this is our time to not only sink or swim, but to do something amazing. This is your time. This is our time. But, these times are different and what comes next is difficult to grasp. How people communicate. How people learn and share. How people make decisions. Everything is different now. Think about this…you’re reading this article because it was sent to you via email. Yet more people spend their online time in social networks than they do in email. Duh. According to Nielsen, of the total time spent online 22.5% are connecting and communicating in social networks. To put that in perspective, the time spent in the likes of Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube is greater than online gaming at 9.8%, email at 7.6% and search at 4%. Imagine for a moment if you and I were connected to one another in Facebook, which just so happens to be the largest social network in the world. How big? Well, Facebook is the size today of the entire Internet in 2004. There are over 1 billion people friending, Liking, commenting, sharing, and engaging in Facebook…that’s roughly 12% of the world’s population. Twitter has over 200 million users. Ever hear of tumblr? More time is spent on this popular microblogging community than Twitter. The point is that the landscape for communication and all that’s affected by human interaction is profoundly different than how you and I learned, shared or talked to one another yesterday. This transformation is only becoming more pervasive and, it’s not going back. Survival of the Fitting But social media is just one of the channels we can use to reach people. I must be honest. I’m as much a part of tomorrow as I am of yesteryear. It’s why I spend all of my time researching the evolution of media and its impact on business and culture. Because of you, I share everything I learn in newsletters, emails, blogs, Youtube videos, and also traditional books. I’m dedicated to helping everyone not only understand, but grasp the change that’s before you. Technologies such as social, mobile, virtual, augmented, et al compel us adapt our story and value proposition and extend our reach to be part of communities we don’t realize exist. The people who will keep you in business or running tomorrow are the very people you’re not reaching today. Before you continue to read on, allow me to clarify my point of view. My inspiration for writing this is to help you augment, not necessarily replace, the programs you’re running today. We must still reach those whom matter to us in the ways they prefer to be engaged. To reach what I call the connected consumer of Geneeration-C we must too reach them in the ways they wish to be engaged. And in all of my work, how they connect, talk to one another, influence others, and make decisions are not at all like the traditional consumers of the past. Nor are they merely the kids…the Millennial. Connected consumers are representative across every age group and demographic. As you can see, use of social networks, media sharing sites, microblogs, blogs, etc. equally span across Gen Y, Gen X, and Baby Boomers. The DNA of connected customers is indiscriminant of age or any other demographic for that matter. This is more about psychographics, the linkage of people through common interests (than it is their age, gender, education, nationality or level of income. Once someone is introduced to the marvels of connectedness, the sensation becomes a contagion. It touches and affects everyone. And, that’s why this isn’t going anywhere but normalcy. Social networking isn’t just about telling people what you’re doing. Nor is it just about generic, meaningless conversation. Today’s connected consumer is incredibly influential. They’re connected to hundreds and even thousands of other like-minded people. What they experiences, what they support, it’s shared throughout these networks and as information travels, it shapes and steers impressions, decisions, and experiences of others. For example, if we revisit the Nielsen research, we get an idea of just how big this is becoming. 75% spend heavily on music. How does that translate to the arts? I’d imagine the number is equally impressive. If 53% follow their favorite brand or organization, imagine what’s possible. Just like this email list that connects us, connections in social networks are powerful. The difference is however, that people spend more time in social networks than they do in email. Everything begins with an understanding of the “5 W’s and H.E.” – Who, What, When, Where, How, and to What Extent? The data that comes back tells you which networks are important to the people you’re trying to reach, how they connect, what they share, what they value, and how to connect with them. From there, your next steps are to create a community strategy that extends your mission, vision, and value and it align it with the interests, behavior, and values of those you wish to reach and galvanize. To help, I’ve prepared an action list for you, otherwise known as the 10 Steps Toward New Relevance: 1. Answer why you should engage in social networks and why anyone would want to engage with you 2. Observe what brings them together and define how you can add value to the conversation 3. Identify the influential voices that matter to your world, recognize what’s important to them, and find a way to start a dialogue that can foster a meaningful and mutually beneficial relationship 4. Study the best practices of not just organizations like yours, but also those who are successfully reaching the type of people you’re trying to reach – it’s benching marking against competitors and benchmarking against undefined opportunities 5. Translate all you’ve learned into a convincing presentation written to demonstrate tangible opportunity to your executive board, make the case through numbers, trends, data, insights – understanding they have no idea what’s going on out there and you are both the scout and the navigator (start with a recommended pilot so everyone can learn together) 6. Listen to what they’re saying and develop a process to learn from activity and adapt to interests and steer engagement based on insights 7. Recognize how they use social media and innovate based on what you observe to captivate their attention 8. Align your objectives with their objectives. If you’re unsure of what they’re looking for…ask 9. Invest in the development of content, engagement 10. Build a community, invest in values, spark meaningful dialogue, and offer tangible value…the kind of value they can’t get anywhere else. Take advantage of the medium and the opportunity! The reality is that we live and compete in a perpetual era of Digital Darwinism, the evolution of consumer behavior when society and technology evolve faster than our ability to adapt. This is why it’s our time to alter our course. We must connect with those who are defining the future of engagement, commerce, business, and how the arts are appreciated and supported. Even though it is the end of business as usual, it is the beginning of a new age of opportunity. The consumer revolution is already underway, and the question is: How do you better understand the role you play in this production as a connected or social consumer as well as business professional? Again, this is your time to define a new era of engagement and relevance.
