  • Slow upload, fast download on Windows 7 64bit system

    I've got a weird problem in the download speeds on my desktop PC (Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit) are consistently fast (approx. 400kB/s) but uploads are very slow (around 6-10kB/s). This has been going on for the last 3 weeks or so. I am a very competent user and troubleshooter, and have searched online for 2 weeks for a solution, to no avail. Part of the problem is that internet is provided by WiFi by my landlord and I have no access to the router (BT Home Hub router) although I know for sure he wouldn't have the first idea on how to restrict my usage :) (rules that out) Anyway, I've tried: - various drivers (my Wifi 'card' is TP-link TL-WN851N, and I've tried TP-link + Atheros + Qualcomm Atheross drivers, suggested by Microsoft) - various tweaks to network parameters (e.g. as suggested by SpeedOptimser) - various tweaks to Windows 7 services (e.g. disabling/manual-ing unecessary services) - raising and lowering head onto a reasonably firm surface at moderate frequency (jk :D) None of the above have helped, and I'm officialy asking for help now!!   • WDS (Wireless Distribution System) not work [migrated]

    I've a dlink di-524 as main router (192.168.0.1) connected to Internet and a second router (192.168.0.2), a tplink wr841n, with WDS enabled and correctly configured to "join" with dlink. After I connect via wireless a laptop (192.168.0.100) to tplink and both work good but with the laptop I can't go to Internet. It seems as WDS not work. With the laptop I can only ping the tplink but other ping (the dlink or other LAN computer not responding). What's the problem? Perhaps also the dlink must have the WDS option? Thanks.

  • Storage drives is causting system crash

    I'm running Centos 5.4 with 750GB(ntfs) and 2TB drives for storage. Originally I installed the 750, everything seemed fine and then I installed the 2TB drive with NTFS already partitioned. I noticed when I would copy a lot of videos it would crash (no mouse or response from server) about 20min into it. After doing some troubleshooting I noticed the 750 would also crash when doing the same task so I decided that NTFS may be the problem. I unmounted the 2TB drive and tried to partition and format it using ext2 but when using parted it would crash at this point "writing inode tables". Looking at the dmesg logs I believe this is the error "mtrr: type mismatch for e0000000,10000000 old: write-back new: write-combining". Any idea as to what could be causing this?

    I have two Windows Server 2003 and both have DFS and it does replication between them. I would like to migrate the primary win2k3 DFS server to win2k8. what is the best way to do that?   • Failing SSHFS connection drags down the system

    From time to time my sshfs mount fails. All programs using the mount freeze when it happens. I can't even ls anything or use nautilus. Is there a way to find out what's the cause and how to handle it? I've noticed regular SSH sessions to the server get their fair share of Write failed: broken pipe disconnects, too. If I wait long enough (and I'm talking about 20-ish minutes, here) it will auto reconnect and things start working again.

    Hi Guys. I have tried to find out the working solution for implementing simple events booking system in Drupal 6 (limited places, payment, signing up/buying few places for firends). System does not have to be big but easy to customize events to reserve/book places for. I was surprised of not finding much complete solutions. Most of the time I was directed to use modules like: Date, Calendar, Singup, Singup Ubercraft integration, Ubercraft. Does anybody of you has tested it? Is it working and customizable or you would suggest other alternatives on the subject? Wiil appreciate any recomendations.

  • Default user logon on Windows Server system

    I installed Remote Desktop Services role (ex Terminal Services) on my Windows Server 2008 R2 machine. After installation when I try to logon locally, there's no default user as it used to be. Can I tweak group policy to have my default user back? I did enable to remember last logon user, but it didn't work... Obviously RDS (ex TS) ignores this policy setting. Additional note: I'm not connected to a domain. It's a standalone development machine running server OS. No domain needed for it.

  • Cannot install VS Team System 2008 on Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit)

    Hello, i am trying to install VS TS 2008 on W7 Ultimate (64bit), but i have run into errors during the setup. Please take note that i have tried to mount the iso to a virtual drive, and also extracted the iso contents to a local folder. Both methods have failed and produce the same error log below. [10/26/09,03:02:40] Runtime Pre-requisites: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Runtime Pre-requisites. MSI returned error code 1603 [10/26/09,03:02:42] VS70pgui: [2] DepCheck indicates Runtime Pre-requisites is not installed. [10/26/09,03:02:42] VS70pgui: [2] DepCheck indicates Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 64bit Prerequisites (x64) was not attempted to be installed. And the list goes on and on.. This is a fresh install of W7, and i have not installed MS Office 2007 at all yet, not sure if it would be causing my errors right now.. I appreciate any help i can get thank you.

  • How to Architect a system on AWS for scaling (with a MySQL back-end)

    I'm trying to understand how to architect an Amazon Web Services application. As I understand it, the whole point of using something like AWS is to make the eventual scaling easier, so I'm trying to understand how to do that. I have an instance, running off of EBS (EBS-based instance, not a regular instance). My application (a Django app) uses MySQL as a back-end. So the question is, where am I supposed to install the MySQL? Do I install it on the same instance? In which case, as far as I can tell, I can't simply create more server instances from that image. Or am I supposed to simply spin up another server as a DB server, and run off of that? Thanks for any help!

    I am using gVim on Ubuntu 10.10. I want to copy (yank) text to the system clipboard, so that the copied text is available in other applications. This works with "+y. But I want to have it working with y. I have tried to map y to "+y but then yy doesn't work anymore (since it produces "+y"+y). I have also tried :set clipboard=unnamed but this works only the other direction: Text in the system clipboard I can paste with p.

  • Raid system fails to boot after moving from 2.6 kernel to 3.5

    I'm running Gentoo Linux with a custom compiled kernel and I've just migrated from a 2.6 kernel to a 3.5. As my HD's are on RAID 0 mode I use a custom initrd file in order to be able to boot. While kernel 2.6 is able to boot without problems the new 3.5 compiled kernel fails to boot complaining about no block devices found. After taking a look at initrd.cpio contained scripts I can see the failure message is given by mdadm tool. Does anyone has a clue about that? Edit: this morning i noticed there was some kind of issue on my old initrd which works fine for 2.6 kernels, so created a new initrd which works fine and let me to boot into GNU/Gentoo Linux with same 3.5 bzImage.     When coping a file greater than 64kB from an Ubuntu server to a CIFS mounted windows share, most of the data is copied, but it seems the last chunk doesn't get copied. The size doesn't match, and the md5 check sums don't match. I have plenty of file space, but then I use cp, I get the following... cp: closing `cloudBackup/asdf.txt': No space left on device Using rsync, I get the following... rsync: close failed on "/home/fluffy/cloudBackup/.asdf.txt.qrBWe6": No space left on device (28) rsync error: error in file IO (code 11) at receiver.c(752) [receiver=3.0.8] rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (29 bytes received so far) [sender] rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(601) [sender=3.0.8] I have full read/write permissions on the mounted share. I can copy via SSH just fine. Any ideas? Thank you

  • Is there a "restore point" in Linux (Debian/Ubuntu) like Windows?

    I'm working directly in an Ubuntu Virtual Machine (VM). Some updates (like kernel) were available at the update manager. If I weren't using a VM, I wouldn't update it since it's a risk to break something. Since it's a VM, you can create a Snapshot or export an appliance and restore if something goes wrong. Suppose I'm not using a VM with a Debian/Ubuntu installation. Is there a install-restore approach that doesn't depend in a VM configuration to restore your system exactly before an upgrade (Like a "Restore Point" in Windows), being easy to restore like a VM appliance? (I'm not looking for "ghost images" or something like that (Norton Ghost, Clonezilla, etc), I'm looking for something builtin in the Linux System)

  • Good reasons to keep 32-bit desktop OS's

    Server software has been 64-bit only for a while now (Since Server 2008 R2 for Windows, even earlier for Exchange and Sharepoint) and even Ubuntu are pushing you away from 32-bit versions for their server OS's. But is there any good, quantifiable reason to keep a 32-bit desktop operating system maintained? We're preparing our Windows 8 images for the (unfortunate?) few that will be early adopters. The majority of our desktop computers have 4gb or less of RAM, but I would love to not have to bother supporting a 32-bit flavoured operating system any more. Any reason why I should?

    I want to know what exactly the output tells when I do the following : class data { int a=5; } class main { public static void main(String[] args) { data dObj=new data(); System.out.println(dObj); } } I know it gives something related to object as the output in my case is data@1ae73783. I guess the '1ae73783' is a hex number. I also did some work around and printed System.out.println(dObj.hashCode()); I got number 415360643. I got an integer value. I don't know what hashCode() returns, still out of curiosity, when I converted 1ae73783 to decimal, I got 415360643! That's why I am curious that what exactly is this number?? Is this some memory location of Java's sandbox or some other thing? Any light on this matter will be helpful..thanks! :)
