  • Best way to organize filetype settings in .vim and .vimrc?

    I'm going through my vim dotfiles to tidy them up. I've noticed that through time I've added various filetype specific settings in various inconsistent ways. Let's suppose I'm customizing for Python: au BufRead,BufNewfFile *.py (do something). I don't like this because some Python files might not have the .py termination. au FileType python (do something). This seems a better option because it doesn't depend on the file having the .py termination. The drawback is that Vim doesn't know about some filetypes. I can make Vim recognize additional filetypes, but I also have various inconsistent ways of doing it: a .vim/filetype.vim file, another in .vim/after/filetype.vim and various set filetype commands in .vimrc. Add a .vim/ftplugin/python.vim file with filetype specific settings. I understand the $VIMRUNTIME/ftplugin/python.vim can override whatever settings I make here. One problem is that I'm not sure how this interacts with .vim/filetype.vim and .vim/after/filetype.vim. Add a .vim/after/ftplugin/python.vim. I understand that this is loaded after $VIMRUNTIME/ftplugin/python.vim so it can overwrite settings from there. As in the previous method I'm not sure how it interacts with the filetype.vim files. So I have at least four ways of doing this, not mentioning syntax files and filetype-specific plugins. It seems to me the best way to do this is to put my filetype specific settings in after/ftplugin so they don't get overwritten, and filetypes.vim in after for the same reason. However, before I proceed I'd like to ask if anyone has suggestions about the best way to deal with filetype specific settings.

    I have a webpage where I have a form with several areas to input text and two drop down select options countries is the first one and depending in witch country is chosen the second should display the estates for that country to choose. my page connects to my db from where it gets the countries and estates.... I have a table with the country names and one table for each country estates. so all I'm trying to do is making it change the states to choose from automatically depending witch country got selected with out summiting the form since that enters a new entry to another table in my db. I seen that using javascript is the way to go but can't get it to work in my case since I don't want to be sent to another page or summit the form. here is part of my code any help will be greatly appreciated.     I know that I can't get a specific answer to my question, but I would like to know if I can find the tools to get to my answer. Ok we have a Sql Server 2008 database that for the last 4 days has had moments where for 5-20 minutes becomes unresponsive for specific queries. e.g. The following queries run in different query windows simultaneously have the following results SELECT * FROM Assignment --hangs indefinitely SELECT * FROM Invoice -- works fine Many of the tables have non-clustered indexes to help speed up SELECTs Here's what I know: 1) The same query will either hang indefinitely or run normally. 2) In Activity Monitor in the processes tab there are normally around 80-100 processes running I think that what's happening is 1) A user updates a table 2) This causes one or more indexes to get updated 3) Another user issues a select while the index is updating Is there a way I can figure out why at a specific moment in time SQL Server is being unresponsive for a specific query?

    I'm running an classified ads website and I'm charging a specific fee for each ad placed. As you may know paypal charges a specific percent for each transaction + a specific amount fee (e.g 2,9% + 0.30 cents) . I have customers who place about 30 ads per month therefore I would like to integrate a schema that would cut the specific amount fee . Basically I'm looking to make "pre-approve" call every time after the client place an ad to make sure that he has the money to pay and at the end of the month to cancel all the scheduled pre-approved transactions and make a single payment request with the whole amount. The question that I have is : Will I be charged for the pre-approved transactions that I cancel ?

  • How do I organize C# classes that inherit from one another, but also have properties that inherit from one another?

    I have an application that has a concept of a Venue, a place where events happen. A Venue is owned by a Company and has many VenueParts. So, it looks like this: public abstract class Venue { public int Id { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public virtual Company Company { get; set; } public virtual ICollection<VenuePart> VenueParts { get; set; } } A Venue can be a GolfCourseVenue, which is a Venue that has a Slope and a specific kind of VenuePart called a HoleVenuePart: public class GolfCourseVenue { public string Slope { get; set; } public virtual ICollection<HoleVenuePart> Holes { get; set; } } In the future, there may also be other kinds of Venues that all inherit from Venue. They might add their own fields, and will always have VenueParts of their own specific type. My declarations above seem wrong, because now I have a GolfCourseVenue with two collections, when really it should just have the one. I can't override it, because the type is different, right? When I run reports, I would like to refer to the classes generically, where I just spit out Venues and VenueParts. But, when I render forms and such, I would like to be specific. I have a lot of relationships like this and am wondering what I am doing wrong. For example, I have an Order that has OrderItems, but also specific kinds of Orders that have specific kinds of OrderItems.

    Let's say we have a [Valuations] table containing several values per date and per fund: -FundId -ValDate -Value1 -Value2... The Primary key is obviously FundId+ValDate. I have also indexed the ValDate field since I often query for values on a specific date. My question is: should I also create a specific index for the FundId, or is MsAccess clever enough to use the Primary key when querying on a specific FundId ?

    Is it appropriate to create jQuery plugins which are specific to a single page? I've been creating generic plugins that are not tied to any context and contain no business logic, but some people I've talked to suggest that almost all javascript, including business logic and logic specific to a single page, should be inside of jQuery plugins. Is it appropriate to have a validateformXYZ plugin which validates a specific HTML form? I'm buying into jQuery 100% but am not sure if this is a misuse or not.

    Hello, I'm using SVN (TortoiseSVN) and often came into the following situation: I wanted to discard any changes since a specific (old) revision and turn all files back to this specific (old) version. Then I wanted to work further as if this specific (old) revision was the newest one, i.e. I wanted to be able to commit the specific old revision as a new revision. I found several solutions for this problem (for example stackoverflow.com/questions/402159/roll-back-or-revert-entire-svn-repository-to-an-older-revision or rustyrazorblade.com/2007/04/how-to-roll-back-commits-to-an-earlier-version-of-a-repository-in-svn/). However, I wonder if there is a simple way to roll back to a specific revision. I thought version control is just good for such things (or am I misunderstanding something?). Is there a simple command/button/etc. that takes an updates my local repository to an old revision and declares it to be the newest one? Since I suppose that there is no "built-in" function to do this, I wanted to know what reason lead the developers to the decision not to integrate this feature. Does anybody know this?

This is the actual problem. For this specific crash, I know I won't be able to get the stack. Just getting the specific line of code will be good enough. Because the BSOD contains the module's address, it seems like there should be a way to detect which line exactly is it. As I mentioned above, I do have the .sys file, the pdb and the source code. This is the specific code taken from MSDN: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION. How can I know from there what was the specific line? and/or the specific exception raised?

  • Listen to Online Radio with Antenna

    Are you looking for some fresh new music to listen to at home or at work? With Antenna you can listen to online radio stations from all over the world. Note: Requires Adobe AIR (download link at bottom of article). Antenna in Action Once you have completed the installation and started Antenna up this is the window that you will see. The left side will have a “browsing pane” where you can search for the stations that you would like to listen to using the various categories. Based on the stations that you choose the background map will change location to match the stations locations. Here is a closer look at the “Categories Bar”. For our first example we used the “Country Category” to find our first station to listen to. When you choose a country you will be presented with a list of the stations available for that country. To start listening to a particular station just double click on the appropriate entry line. A closer look at the “browser pane” with our first station playing. Notice the “Reliability Indicator” that will be available for each listing…some may be better than others and you can use this to choose the best streaming stations from the list. In the upper left corner you will notice three icons…each will open a small pop-up window with a specific purpose. The first icon will open up the “About Window”. If you need to contact Antenna’s creator or would like to place a request for a station to be added to the app then this is the best way to do it. The second icon will open up a Antenna specific chat window. The third icon will allow you to set a default location and make adjustments to some of the app’s settings. Recording Audio The “Recording Function” is the only area where we experienced some “quirkiness” with the app. To start recording press the “Round White Button”… Note: Based on feedback on the app creator’s webpage some people have experienced the same problem as we did during our tests with the app failing to complete the recordings. Hopefully this bug will be fixed with the next release. Once recording has started the button will turn red. Click on the button again to stop recording. Once you have stopped recording you will see the following message window appear and the main window will be shaded over with a whitish color until you click “OK”. Conclusion Regardless of the slight quirkiness in recording online music Antenna more than makes up for it with the terrific selection of online stations and streaming capability.
