• Scrapped HTML does not written at the beginning of text file.

  Currently, I'm scraping the HTML code of a page, and write it to a txt file. My problem is, why there must be empty spaces or empty lines at the beginning? The HTML codes written to the txt file, seems does not start at the beginning of the txt file. Means, the '<' does not located at the position 0 of the txt file. After a few runs, my HTML is always written a few lines down inside the txt file. Can anyone tell me why : )

• How can I make an SQL statement that finds unassociated records?

  I have two tables as follows: tblCountry (countryID, countryCode) tblProjectCountry(ProjectID, countryID) The tblCountry table is a list of all countries with their codes and the tblProjectCountry table associates certain countries with certain projects. I need an SQL statement that gives me a list of the countries with their country code that do NOT have an associated record in the tblProjectCountry table. so far I got to here: SELECT tblCountry.countryID, tblCountry.countryCode FROM tblProjectCountry INNER JOIN tblCountry ON tblProjectCountry.countryID = tblCountry.countryID WHERE (SELECT COUNT(ProjectID) FROM tblProjectCountry WHERE (ProjectID = 1) AND (countryID = tblCountry.countryID)) = 0 The above statement parses as correct but doesn't give the exact result I'm looking for. Can anyone help?

• Python: Get items at depth? (set library?)

  I have a nested list something like this: PLACES = ( ('CA', 'Canada', ( ('AB', 'Alberta'), ('BC', 'British Columbia' ( ('van', 'Vancouver'), ), ... )), ('US', 'United States', ( ('AL', 'Alabama'), ('AK', 'Alaska'), ... I need to retrieve some data out of it. If depth is 0 I need to retrieve all the countries (and their codes), if depth == 1, I need to retrieve all the states/provinces, if depth == 2 I need to retrieve all the cities... and so forth. Is there some set library for doing stuff like this? Or can someone point me in the right direction? I started coding up a solution only to realize it wouldn't work for levels deeper than 1 because you have to go in and out of each list...

• How does ImageView just redraw part of its content when invalidate(Rect) is called?

  Hi, guys I am new to Android development, just reading docs and trying the APIs. I am quit confused how ImageView managed to draw just a part of its content after an invalidate(Rect) invocation. I've checked ImageView.java, found no other drawing method except onDraw(Canvas), but onDraw(Canvas) only cut the drawable only if it is beyound the view's visible boundary. I also read the implementation of View.invalidate(Rect), I think the key of this function is calling to mParent.invalidateChild(this, r); However, I think the parent view doesn't know how to draw the child in the given Rect, it finally has to call some method of it child to paint out. Has anybody investigated this part of codes? Would you please give me some guide?

• Are frameworks using byte-code generation creating leaky abstractions?

  My point is, if you don't understand the abstraction of a framework, you can still decompile it and understand it, because you know the language e.g. Java. However, when byte-code generation happens, you have to understand even a lower level - JVM level byte-codes. I am really affraid of using any of such frameworks, which are many. Most of the time I think the reason for byte-code generation is simply lack of language features such as metaprogramming. Do you agree? What is your opinion and argument? How do you take over the problem with leaky abstractions in those frameworks?

• Forbid developer to commit code because of making weekly build

  Our development team (about 40 developers) has a formal build every two weeks. We have a process that in the "build day", every developers are forbiden to commit code into SVN. I don't think this is a good idea because: Build will take days (even weeks in bad time) to make and BVT. People couldn't comit code as they will, they will not work. People will comit all codes in a hurge pack, so the common is hard to write. I want know if your team has same policy, and if not how do you take this situation. Thanks

I've been to various Python open source web sites (e.g., http://pythonsource.com/), which list lots of packages, but they are pretty unclear as whether these are Python 2.x vs 3.x source files. The several samples that I downloaded all turned out to be Python 2.x. Where can I find a number of large Python 3 software source codes? I don't really want 1000 little separate Python3 files; I prefer big applications.

After the datarow is read (match the target type), it will be deleted. However, the row is deleted immediately after .Delete() execute, so the location of the next row (by i) is incorrect. For example, if TargetType is A. When i=0, the "Peter" row is deleted after .Delete executed. Then when i=1, I suppose it will locate the "Sam" row but it actually located "John" row because "Peter" row is deleted. Is there any problem in my codes?

  Hi, I'm trying to create a database connection in a python script to my DB2 database. When the connection is done I've to run some different SQL statements. I googled the problem and has read the ibm_db API (http://code.google.com/p/ibm-db/wiki/APIs) but just can't seem to get it right. I really tried everything (or, not everything but pretty damn close) and I can't get it to work. I just need to make a automatic test python script that can test different queries with different indexes and so on and for that I need to create and remove indexes a long the way.   Hi all, I am learning how to use JQuery validation plugin, and came across some questions about the JQuery magic that works on the sumbit action. I got a simple HTML form which has got an input text field like this: <form class="cmxform" id="commentForm" method="get" action=""> <input id="cname" name="name" size="25" class="required" minlength="2" /> <input class="submit" type="submit" value="Submit"/> </form> The magic happened when I tried not to input any data into the field and pressed the submit button. I saw an error message in red pop up, and no matter how hard and how many times I pressed the submit button, nothing was submitted. It seemed that there was some scripts that disabled the submit action, but I just couldn't find which lines of codes in the JQuery Validatyion Plugin that did it.

• Mapping US zip code to time zone

  When users register with our app, we are able to infer their zip code when we validate them against a national database. What would be the best way to determine a good potential guess of their time zone from this zip code? We are trying to minimize the amount of data we explicitly have to ask them for. They will be able to manually set the time zone later if our best guess is wrong. I realize zip codes won't help with figuring out the time zone outside the US, but in that case we'd have to manually ask anyway, and we deal predominantly with the US regardless. I've found a lot of zip code databases, and so far only a few contain time zone information, but those that do are not free, such as this one. If it's absolutely necessary to pay a subscription to a service in order to do this, then it will not be worth it and we will just have to ask users explicitly. Although language isn't particularly relevant as I can probably convert things however needed, we're using PHP and MySQL.

First of all, let me explain what i want to do, i have an image that was split into 4 other small images. I currently have like 6 small images that i need to figure out which ones are part of the real image. • Is Lightweight Code Generation (LCG) dead?

  In the .NET 2.0-3.5 frameworks, LCG (aka the DynamicMethod class) was a decent way to emit lightweight methods at runtime when no class structure was needed to support them. In .NET 4.0, expression trees now support statements and blocks, and as such appear to provide sufficient functionality to build just about any functionality you could require from such a method, and can be constructed in a much easier and safer way than directly emitting CIL op-codes. (This statement is borne from today's experimentation of converting some of our most complex LCG code to use expression tree building and compilation instead.) So is there any reason why one would use LCG in any new code? Is there anything it can do that expression trees cannot? Or is it now a 'dead' piece of functionality?

  Hey guys, When writing code I am seeing requirements to change data models (e.g. adding/changing/removing data members from a class). When these data models belong to an interface, it seems difficult to change without breaking the existing client codes. So I am wondering if there is any best practice of designing interfaces/data models in a way to minimize the impact during evolution. The closest thing I can find from google is data contract versioning. But that seems to be a .net specific topic. I am wondering if the same practice applies to the Java world, or there is a different or generic way to deal with data model evolution. Thanks

I am doing this from biopython using AlignIO object.   I've got an Asp.net MVC app and before being able to go live, the IT have requested for us to comply with their password policy. The flexibility of AspnetSqlMembershipProvider doesn’t quite satisfy the requirement. The password strength and length rules are as follows: one lowercase one Uppercase one number and or special character 8 characters in length so far, aspnetsqlmembershipprovider is good... Not allowed to use: Dictionary words Names, real or fictional Plain language phrases Dates Telephone numbers Car registration numbers User IDs Postal codes Organization name Only the first 4 criteria are satisfied by the aspnetsqlmembershipprovider. Do you know of any third party products that offers this functionality (preferably in the form of a custom membership provider)?
