    I've got an environment with several IIS 6 web servers hosting hundreds of apps (dozens of sites, hundreds of virtual directories) all with a myriad of different configurations belonging to dozens of different developers (all deploying apps willy nilly). Is there some sort of managed software solution that will centralize management of all my IIS6 environments provide some inventory functionality allow for reporting or querying of said application inventory enforce and automate some sort of deployment process?

  • Pros and Cons of Creating an Internal Cerificate Authority

    What are the pros and cons of spinning up an internal certificate authority (primarily Windows 2003 CA)? We have the need to encypt server-server traffic on a project that has 20+ certificates. We could buy certs from Verisign, but I was thinking that an internal CA might be a better long term solution. So I was looking to the community to provide a pros/cons list of what we might gain (or lose) by hosting our own CA? Thanks in advance for the help.

    Apache: I have multiple domains on one hosting. I have a web-management software listening to port 3000 and one phpmyadmin. Can I restrict access to a certain domain? I mean that example.com:3000 will work and notexample.com:3000 not? (same for phpmyadmin) UPD: I have 3 IP's pointing to that host. Postfix/Cyrus: What is the right config to reject emails to mailboxes which do not even exist? (LDAP) Thanks

    I have a website that is being hosted and supported by a company that is going out of business. We are looking for a company to do maintenance on the code/content side, and will likely move the hosting to Rackspace.com (or another SAS70 certified provider). We are bringing the CMS with us, which I know is unusual, but we like it and would like to keep it. What companies should I look at for just CODE and CONTENT maintenance? It's a PHP/MySQL website.

The Cloud has SSD storage but they are now saying that we have very high IOPS and are goign to degrade us if we do not do anything soon.   • Postfix and google apps email limit

    I installed postfix on my ubuntu vps. The server is hosting mysite.com. I set the MX records for mysite.com to use google apps for email: ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM ... I am using php's mail() function, and emails are working. Google apps has a 500 email / day limit. Am I using this limit? I'm not sure what postfix is doing exactly. Thanks

The problem is that every now and then, Outlook Express starts downloading all old emails, which amounts to tens of thousands of emails. This happens on every single computer (three) at the office.     A friend has a site developed in ColdFusion with MySQL and is looking for better cost-effective hosting as the traffic scales up rapidly. Azure comes to mind. I haven't used Azure myself, however, I believe it is possible to setup and interact with the web-server via RDP into a hosted Virtual Machine? I am curious if ColdFusion can be installed in the hosted Azure VM. Also, would the site have to be tweaked to run on Azure SQL, or could it continue to use MySQL? Thanks.

    I have a large file I want to transfer using either Internet storage hosting, DVD-Rs or USB storage, which sometimes is limited to FAT file-systems (for example: mobile phones) What I'm basically looking for is a tool that create multiple files/volumes (less than 2GB each - FAT's file size limit) which are packed with a self-extracting executable. Is it save to have my svn repositories accessed by two web servers at the same time? What I would like to know, how many visitors can use the multiple web sites concurrently, before I need to migrate each of the sites to their seperate servers? So in laymans terms, how much RAM does a web-page user take on average? For example, how many concurrent visitors can I have on my server, running an Apache server, with 512mb RAM?

    Hi, I've a Virtual Private Server with Windows 2003 and root access. This server mainly acts as a web hosting machine (IIS, Apache). Additionally it is used as a mail server. Is it possible to isolate a mailserver (for example HMailServer) by using VMware Server on Windows 2003 in order to avoid potential viruses moving from the guest into the host system?
