  • What is the release date for Rakudo Star (perl6)?

    If a specific release date is not available (as I suspect it is not), can you provide resources for tracking how close it is to the desired feature set that allows release. I'm not necessarily asking for a percentage gauge, or X of Y features completed list. A list of bugs marked in whichever section of the perl RT instance that's tracking Rakudo bugs would meet my criteria, even more so if the list is dynamic (I.e. it's a list of bugs tagged in some manner, not a static list of ticket numbers). If there are only a few planned features left to be finished/tested before it's considered ready for final testing, listing those would also be sufficient.

  • How can I drag from a connected vertical list to the first item of a another list below with jQueryUI Sortable?

    Hi all, I have have several ULs vertically down a page. They are setup using jQueryUI's sortable(). My live example is: http://jsfiddle.net/pborreli/pJgyu/ I can drag from answers to make it the final element in questions. But when I drag from questions to answers the placeholder jumps to the second item in the questions list. At that point I can then drag it to the top. Any ideas why I am having this issue dragging from a list above to the first element of a list below? I've tried editing the padding and margin on both the lists and the sortable items.     I'm using mysql to create an hotel booking system, but i am struggling a little bit to calculate the final bill. I need a SELECT command to get data from several tables and make some calculations. Basically I just need to get the 'night cost' from a table called 'room_types'. Then, use DATEDIFF function to get the difference of days between the 'checkin' and 'checkout' columns in the table 'room_booking' and multiply the difference with the night cost and display the total. These are the tables I would be using: are room_booking, room_types, booking, and room. My plan is to use PHP to perform the final page construction and this PHP web app will contact multiple services, which i will also to develop, for the data. Lets say one of those services was done in Java. I would define a Java interface which was implemented by a concrete class. This is where I get confused - how does Thrift link the PHP web app with the java service or am I getting totally mixed up?? Thanks

    I have followed the tutorial at Scala and Android with Scala 2.7.3 final. The resulting Android App works but even the most basic application takes several minutes (!) to compile and needs 900 kb compressed, which is a show stopper for mobile applications. Additionally, the IDE runs out of memory every now and then. I assume dex is not made for big libraries like the scala-library. So my question is: Has anyone actually done this and is there any cure for this?

    Hi, I'm using 2 PU in stateless EJB and each of them is invoked on one method: @PersistenceContext(unitName="PU") private EntityManager em; @PersistenceContext(unitName="PU2") private EntityManager em2; @TransactionAttribute(TransactionAttributeType.REQUIRES_NEW ) public void getCandidates(final Integer eventId) throws ControllerException { ElectionEvent electionEvent = em.find(ElectionEvent.class, eventId); ... Person person = getPerson(candidate.getLogin()); ... } @TransactionAttribute(TransactionAttributeType.REQUIRES_NEW ) private Person getPerson(String login) throws ControllerException { Person person = em2.find(Person.class, login); return person; } Those methods are annotated with REQUIRES_NEW transcaction to avoid this exception. When I was calling these method from javaFX applet, all worked as expected. Now I'm trying to call them from JAX-RS webservice (I don't see any logical difference as in both cases ejb was looked up in initial context) and I keep getting this exception. When I set up XADatasource in glassfish 2.1 connection pools, I got nullpointer exception on em2. Any ideas what to try next? Regards

    I am trying to generate Excel reports using Apache POI 3.6 (latest). Since POI has limited support for header and footer generation (text only), I decided to start from a blank excel file with the header already prepared and fill the Excel cells using POI (cf. question 714172). Unfortunately, when opening the workbook with POI and writing it immediately to disk (without any cell manpulation), the header seems to be lost.     As soon as I add "from django.contrib.gis.db import models" instead of "from django.db import models", Django stops recognizing the app and gives this error: Error: App with label location could not be found. Are you sure your INSTALLED_APPS setting is correct? The error goes away as soon as I comment out "from django.contrib.gis.db import models"... I have added "django.contrib.gis" and the "location" app to the INSTALLED_APPS setting correctly. Any clues why this is happening? I am running using Django v1.1.1 final, on my windows laptop.

I can extract all the information in the gas price table (address, time submitted etc.), except for the actual gas price. Is there a way I could scrape the gas prices? i.e. somehow get a text representation of it. I'm not very familiar with ASP/ASPX - but what's being generated now is not showing up in the final HTML. I'm using Python to do the scraping, but that's irrelevant unless there's a specific library... Thanks in advance.

  • Native Mouse events with Flash and Selenium

    I understand that Selenium does not support Flash, but it is my understanding that I should be able to do some simplistic testing of Flash by using Selenium's built in native mouse support and doing mouse up/down events based on coordinates. Is this correct? I can't seem to get it working. I'm trying to test on this page: http://mandy-mania.blogspot.com/2010/04/sneak-peek-of-final-season-of-lost-dvd.html and all I'm trying to do is click on the flash object so it plays the video. I've tried all sorts of commands, MouseOver, MouseDown, MouseDownAt, MouseUp, MouseUpAt, etc. So, I'm wondering if this just theoretically doesn't work or if I'm just doing something wrong. The xpath I'm using is //object[@id='player'], although I've tried a number of different combinations. And yes, I've also tried just the straight click command. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    Hello, I've a list of different sizes of a T-Shirt, e.g. S, M, L. Since this might change for T-Shirts (sometimes we just have e.g. M, L), we load this into a List sizes. Since most DataGrids (xamDataGrid, WPF Toolkit DataGrid) need Properties for binding to the Columns, I'd like to transpose somehow my data. Does anyone have an idea how to do this? E.g. Instead of having List where Size { string sizeName, int available, int defect, int ordered} Avail. Defect Ordered [S] 1 2 3 [M] 1 2 3 [L] 1 2 3 I want an Object which has the Properties S, M, L containing the Values like this: [S] [M] [L] Avail. 1 2 3 Defect 1 2 3 Ordered 1 2 3 The problem here is that I don't know how many sizes will be available for the tshirt, it might be 3, 4, or 10.   • Better type safety in Java collections

    In my java coding, I often end up with several Map<String,Map<String,foo>> or Map<String,List<String>> and then I have trouble remembering which String is which key. I comment the declaration with //Map<capabiltyId,Map<groupId,foo>> or //Map<groupId,List<capabilityId>, but it's not the greatest solution. If String wasn't final, I would make new classes CapabilityId extends String and GroupId extends String, but I can't. Is there a better way to keep track of which thing is the key and maybe have the compiler enforce it?

  • What are the Worst Software Project Failures Ever?

    Is there a good list of "worst software project failures ever" in the history of software development? For example in Canada a "gun registry" project spent around two billion dollars. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_registry). This is of course, insane, even if the final product "sort of worked". I have heard of an FBI Case file system which there have been several attempts to rewrite, all of them so far, failures. There is a book on the subject (Software Runaways). There doesn't seem to be be a software "boondoggle" list or "fiasco" list on Wikipedia that I can see. (Update: Therac-25 would be the 'winner' of this question, except that I was internally thinking more of Software projects that had as their deliverable, mainly software, as opposed to firmware projects like Therac-25, where the hardware and firmware together are capable of killing people. In terms of pure software monetary debacles, which was my intended question, there are several contenders.)

    I have read in few different places that using c++0x's new string literals it might be possible to compute a string's hash at compile time. However, no one seems to be ready to come out and say that it will be possible or how it would be done. Is this possible? What would the operator look like? I'm particularly interested use cases like this. void foo( const std::string& value ) { switch( std::hash(value) ) { case "one"_hash: one(); break; case "two"_hash: two(); break; /*many more cases*/ default: other(); break; } } Note: the compile time hash function doesn't have to look exactly as I've written it. I did my best to guess what the final solution would look like, but meta_hash<"string"_meta>::value could also be a viable solution.

    Hi is there a standard place for accessing empty array constants in the JDK 1.5. When I want to do a conversion from a String Collection (e.g. ArrayList)to a String Array I find myself using my own which is defined in my own Constants class: public static final String[] EMPTY_STRING_ARRAY = new String[0]; And then in my client code something like: String[] retVal = myStringList.toArray(Constants.EMPTY_STRING_ARRAY); return retVal; I was wondering if this is the "idiomatic" of doing it or if I'm missing something I get the impression from the brief search I did that this kind of thing is prevalent in many people's code. Any ideas, answers, comment (aside from that I shouldn't really use String Arrays) greatly appreciated, Cheers Simon
