  • Mac Mail sent messages not in sent folder

    Hi. My powerbook G4 has been lobbying for a furlough recently, and its latest prank is to not show sent messages in my sent mailbox. I have always had a copy of every sent message, and now, for some unknown reason, I can only see sent messages from May 7 and earlier. When I did a test, and sent myself an email, it shows up fine in my inbox, but there's nothing in the sent folder. Weird. It also has the little arrow next to messages that I replied to in the inbox. I guess I'm going to have to cc myself on everything until I get this fixed. Also, it's got another new trick, which I'm assuming is unrelated, but I mention it here just in case it is: the battery says it's "good" and has a cycle count of 0, and a full charge capacity of 2139, but for some reason it's all of a sudden not charging when it's plugged in. It works fine when connected to the wall, but there is no battery life at all. Zip. Any thoughts? Is it just time for a new 'book? This one just got back from Apple, having its harddrive replaced for the fourth time (for free, but seriously, this thing is a lemon). Thanks so much, Elizabeth

  • How to diagnose a hang when creating a new folder in explorer.exe

    I have been having some issues with explorer.exe hanging when I create a new folder. If I use Analyse Wait Chain in the Resource Monitor it says "One or more threads of explorer.exe are waiting to finish network I/O". So I decided to try and user TraceView.exe to try and listen in on the explorer.exe traces. The problem is TraceView requires some difficult-to-come-by stuff... either pdbs, or CTL files, and .TMF files. I tried using the explorer.pdb that comes with the Windows SDK but that did not work. I do not see explorer.exe in the "named providers". And I have no idea where to locate the ctl or .TMF files for explorer.exe. So the question is: Is there a way to view the ETW trace messages from explorer? Or shall I just not bother and go back to the age old technique of disabling every explorer extenion one-by-one in the hope its one of them. (Prefer the former as I like to get to the bottom of things!!)

  • Unable to remove Read-Only attribute from folder in Windows XP

    I have this directory which I cannot remove the read only attribute from. The computer is running XP SP2 (or SP3, not sure) and the directory sits in a NTFS file system. Looking into the web I found this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/256614 which tells that if the directory is "customized" it's treated as a system folder and thus "read only". I don't think this is a scenario in my case, but anyway it's not helping, their recommendation is more or less: attr -r -s /d /s d:\data and this is not working for me. Any other ideas? More info: The directory is served to an HTTP server (wamp) and the directory is an SVN check out. What happens is that the web server cannot write files into the directory (imagechace from drupal is you are really interested). Edit 2: The original post claimed that the directory sits on a VFAT FS, however I booted Fedora 11 from livecd and the partition is marked as NTFS. Edit 3: I left the company which I worked on, on which this situation happened... so I cannot fully close this question. But things get even worse: I tested the "attr -r" answer I put, it did not work for me, and now the developer said that it worked for her. A nice WTF moment. Probably a reboot helped... Sorry for loosing details. If anyone has the same problem, and one of the answers helps him - please comment.

    I have a NAS device, it has 3 shares. On one computer I have access to all 3 of the shares. On another computer I keep getting this error when try and add a 2nd one. The Network folder specified is currently mapped using a different user name and password [...] That is the message I keep getting. What causes that? EDIT: Every share has it's own username and password. EDIT: NET USE on the one running 3 from the same NAS device New connections will be remembered.   • Synchronising a remote folder with a local one.

    I am using a network disk (that's connected to my router by USB) to store several data files. A simple .NET application that I've created is supposed to read and modify these data files. However, some security issues are preventing this application to access these files directly. (Actually, these have been built-in to my application on purpose since it's not going to support NAS disks.) Since this disk is shared with several computers, I just want to have a simple synchronisation method, which will copy the files to a local folder where3 my application can access them. And, once modified, it should send back the modified files to the NAS disk again. I have two options: 1) Build a second application to do my own synchronisation. 2) Find some build-in function inside Windows 7 Ultimate which can do this for me. Option 2 is preferred. Option 1 is something I can do easily, if need be. I don't need third-party tools. (Still, feel free to add some references to good tools, although I won't accept them as answers.) Basically, is this possible with Windows 7 and if so, how?

  • Restoring a fresh home folder in a shared user domain environment

    I am using a tool called pGINA that adds another credential provider to my Windows 7 clients so we can authenticate campus users via campus LDAP. We have the default Windows credential providers setup to authenticate off of our Active Directory, but we have students in our classes that don't have entries in our AD, and we need to know who they are to allow them internet access. Once these LDAP users login using pGINA, they are all redirected to the same AD account, a 'kiosk' account with GPOs in place to prevent anything malicious. My concern is that my users will accidentally save personal login information or files in that shared profile, and another user may login later and have access to a previous user's Gmail account, as the AppData folder on each computer is shared by anyone logging into the kiosk user. I've looked into MS's 'roll-your-own' SteadyState but it didn't seem to have what I wanted. I tried to write a PS script to copy a pre-saved clean version of the profile from a network share, but I just kept running into issues with CredSSP delegation and accessing the share from the UNC path. Others have recommended something like DeepFreeze but I'd like to do it without 3rd party tools if possible.

  • Simulate a DFS share for a user not on domain with a folder in path

    I have a consultant whose computer is not on the domain and needs to access various network resources. Unfortunately while adding a computer to the domain is a difficult bureaucratic process (and would disallow much of his development software from even running given the domain restrictions), we can allow him to have credentials to access network resources. As such, he accesses various network resources via NET USE etc. without using DFS. There is one piece of software which requires him to have the same hardcoded path as other domain users but that path is a DFS path which he can't map (i.e., the software checks the path at runtime and will only run if it matches the registered path and will reject it in the context of using a DFS versus conventional machine path) I was wondering if there's some method to simulate the DFS path without actually using DFS. e.g., the path the software needs to see is "\ABC\DFS\software\app.exe" whereas the non DFS path is "\DEF\Software\app.exe" while I could make his hosts file point DEF to ABC, I'm not sure if I can somehow make it point there with the DFS "folder" as well are there any methods for this short of making changes to the AD to allow him to use DFS or add him to the domain (both of which are politically/technically challenging sadly)?   • How to set permissions or alter a git commit process when using local repositories

    I have a server that contains a central git repository and one of my co-worker's development environment. My co-worker's repository's origin is the central git repository and he pushes there when he has some code to share. Likewise, I develop locally and push to the central git repository when I have some code to share, so my repository's origin is also the central git repository. The issue is that I have the central git repository under a "git" user's home directory. So when I push I am actually SSH'ing into the the server as the "git" user. To be even more clear, my config has these lines: $ more .git/config [remote "origin"] fetch = +refs/heads/*:refs/remotes/origin/* url = [email protected]:fsg [branch "master"] remote = origin merge = refs/heads/master When I push, git handles this SSH + push seamlessly with I am guessing some sort of git shell. The issue is that when my coworker pushes, he is logged in as himself for a user and gets a bunch of crazy permission errors. Is there a typical way to solve this problem without opening up git's directories to a group? I think this will be problematic when I push and therefore overwrite the the repository and those permissions are reset. Thanks!

  • ApplicationPoolIdentity permissions on Temporary Asp.Net files

    Hi all, at work I am struggling a bit with the following situation: We have a web application that runs on a WIndows Server 2008 64 bits machine. The app's ApplicationPool is running under the ApplicationPoolIdentity and configured for .net 2 and Classic pipeline mode. This works fine up to the moment that XmlSerialization requires creation of Serializer assemblies where MEF is being used to create a collection of knowntypes. To remedy this I was hoping that granting the ApplicationPoolIdentity rights to the ASP.Net Temporary Files directory would be enough, but alas... What I did was the run the following command from a cmd prompt: icacls "c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework64\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files" /grant "IIS AppPool\MyAppPool":(M) Obviously this did not work, otherwise you would not be reading this :) Strange thing is that whenever I grant the Users or even more specific, the Authenticated Users Group those permissions, it works. What's weird as well (in my eyes) is that before I started granting access the ApplicationPoolIdentity was already a member of IIS_IUSRS which does have Modify rights for the temporary asp files directory. And now I'm left wondering why this situation requires Modify rights for the Authenticated Users group. I thought it could be because the apppool account was missing additional rights (googling for this returned some results, so I tried those), but granting the ApplicationPoolIdentity modification rights to the Windows\Temp directory and/or the application directory itself did not fix it. For now we have a workaround, but I hate that I don't know what is exactly going on here, so I was hoping any of you guys could shed some light on this. Thanx in advance!

  • Google Script / Spreadsheet -- Shared permissions with Installed Trigger onEdit

    Using an installed trigger inside spreadsheet to call onUpdateBilling(). Purpose of this script is on edit, based on content of column "billed" (i.e. "d") will highlight the entire column the predetermined color. Page running script is shared with collaborators and they have been given edit access. My expectation at this point is the script should be run with owner permissions. My shared users are unable to run the script with the given error "You don't have permission for this action." Reached my limited knowledge and googlefu for this workaround. Any help to allow operation to my collaborators is appreciated.     Hey all, I'm trying to add authorization to a rather large app that already exists, but I have to obfuscate the details a bit. Here's the background: In our app we have a number or roles that are hierarchical, roughly like this: BasicUser -> SuperUser -> Admin -> SuperAdmin For authorization each User model instance has an attribute 'role' which corresponds to the above. We have a RESTful controller "Users" that is namespaced under Backoffice. So in short it's Backoffice::UsersController. class Backoffice::UsersController < ApplicationController filter_access_to :all #... RESTful actions + some others end So here's the problem: We want users to be able to give permissions for users to edit users but ONLY if they have a 'smaller' role than they currently have. I've created the following in authorization_rules.rb authorization do role :basic_user do has_permission_on :backoffice_users, :to => :index end role :super_user do includes :basic_user has_permission_on :backoffice_users, :to => :edit do if_attribute :role => is_in { %w(basic_user) } end end role :admin do includes :super_user end role :super_admin do includes :admin end end And unfortunately that's as far as I got, the rule doesn't seem to get applied. If I comment the rule out, nobody can edit If I leave the rule in you can edit everybody I've also tried a couple of variations on the if_attribute: if_attribute :role => is { 'basic_user' } if_attribute :role => 'basic_user' and they get the same effect. Does anybody have any suggestions?

  • .gitignore does not understand my folder wildcard on windows

    I'm encountering a weird issue with .gitignore on Windows. I want git to ignore all .exe files, except those in the Dependencies folder (and all subfolders). So I have: .gitignore: *.exe !/Dependencies/**/*.exe This, unfortunately, does not work. Meanwhile, this does: *.exe !/Dependencies/folder/subfolder/*.exe So I'm wondering, am I messing something up, or is this some kind of bug? I'm running msysgit on Windows (Windows 7 x64) version 1.6.5.1-preview20091022 Thanks in advance for any input :)

  • aspnet_compiler fails when using App_Browsers folder with Web Deployment Project

    Hi When Compiling my Web Deployment Project which references a Asp.Net project with a App_Browsers folder I get the following compilation error: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_compiler.exe -v /[PROJECTNAME].csproj -p "[FILEPATH]" -u -f -d .\TempBuildDir\ ASPNETCOMPILER : error ASPRUNTIME: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. If I remove the App_Browsers folder everything works perfectly. Any help would be appreciated.

  • IIS5 to IIS6 upgrade, and the bin folder

    We had a website running under IIS5 which used the bin directory as a housing for some asp pages as well as files for download and after upgrading to IIS6, we only get a 404 error when trying to access anything in that folder. We do not store any sensitive information in there, or code, and it would require a major overhaul of not only our system, but our clients' systems as well. Is there some configuration setting we are overlooking or is it just that IIS6 will no longer let you use the bin folder as just another directory?

    Hi, I'm using the latest rails 3 beta. The app works fine in development mode, but when I start the server in production mode via rails server -e production, it seems that the public folder can't be found. I get error messages like: ActionController::RoutingError (No route matches "/javascripts/jquery.js"): And similar messages for everything that should be in the public folder. I've tried this with both mongrel and webrick. I'd appreciate any help.

    Hi, I'm new to Android and trying to convert a Windows Mobile app to java/android. In WM there are the followning standard folders: Inbox,Sent, dratfs, outbox, deleted. I'm able to access all folders except deleted with Uri.parse("content://sms/XXXXXX") 1) Is deleted folder missing? 2) Is it possible to create user folders, like "content://sms/My Folder" Thanks, Nicholas
